MoominAndMiniMoom · 27/04/2014 04:24

Polly how exciting! Sounds like you could be meeting your baby soon!

My hind waters went before they broke the rest of my waters and apparently they had meconium in them, so they rushed through my induction and rushed to get me on the drip, but it sounds positive if they've let you go home tonight that if your hind waters have gone, at least they're clear!

I could rave about induction all day, I loved it and would gladly sign up to be induced next time if possible Grin I felt like it was all under control, there was never any panic or uncertainty, yes it felt managed but the midwives explained everything that was happening, warned me about what they were going to do before they did it, offered me pain relief before they knew the pain would kick in and I felt very safe and cared for.

Did they say how your cervix was? If it's soft, effaced, short etc then if they do induce, you could kick everything off naturally with just the propess/prostin, after which your waters could go naturally or they can break your waters. That was the plan with me until the meconium. Also how far along are you again? I was warned that induction was unlikely to work, and I may need intervention, because of only being 37 weeks, but my cervix was already soft and effaced and baby was very low so the induction worked very quickly. I think being conservative with pain relief helped; I had paracetamol for most of it and then diamorphine when they put the drip in (didn't work as pain relief but I slept for thirty seconds between every contraction which was a godsend!), and gas and air for the last hour of contractions and the pushing stage, and the pushing only took 9 minutes. But a lot of people recommend epidural as soon as the drip goes in; I can see why because the contractions are intense but it helps to think of each one as achieving something - however the midwives were more than happy to give me an epidural if I'd wanted one, which is one of the benefits of being in a hospital as opposed to birthing centre.

That's just a big mash-up of my experience, what other women on the ward told me, what midwives told me and what I've seen elsewhere, everyone is individual and different but that's my experience and advice to someone facing a potential induction. Try not to dread it, relaxing is the best thing you can do :)

Best of luck for tomorrow, how exciting! I reckon we'll have a fair few new Maybies before May 1st!

I'm sure I should be more tired considering it's half 4 and I haven't slept yet. I decided to do an all-nighter for my essay and do all the feeds in the meantime to let OH sleep. Gives me an excuse to sleep and avoid visitors later Grin

ClearlyMoo · 27/04/2014 04:36

Oooh Polly thinking of you!

Moomin thanks for sharing your positive story!

Chip - ha you sound like me on the symptom spotting. I have a BH every time I stand up at the mo, so erm of course the gaps are giant and sporadic. Just waddled up for loo trip and agonising pain, back in bed and it eases, almost like it's a gravity thing! I know I'm only 38 weeks but I wouldn't mind an April baby, and my Mother no medical training whatsoever and midwife both think baby will come before 40 weeks.. Well MW was amazed it didn't come at 35/36! It's nice to be warned in someways but I'm sure this info has made me even worse at the symptom spotting! I'm sure I'll know when BH are actually contractions due to their regularity and my inability to talk I like to talk!

clearly yes i am sure we will know when the time comes i love talking to Grin i thought baby might be early, not sure now see what they say on monday if im all closed up could be ages, i want her sooner rather than later because she is a big girl

38+2

ohdearitshappeningtome · 27/04/2014 05:55

Polly they can only let u ho do long before they have to induce due to infection risk x

dobedobedo · 27/04/2014 06:44

Polly how exciting!

I don't know about the hind waters thing but I was induced with ds and it wasn't that bad. I enjoyed my labour, thanks to the gas and air! Grin I'm fuzzy on the details cos it was 9 years ago, but pessary, and then my waters broke, I went into labour and my cervix wasn't dialiting, nor was ds even engaged, so they put me on the drip. Pushing lasted about 15-20 mins. I forgot the pain the second he was born. Smile

Ahh so lovely that more of us are meeting our babies!

Dh did his part to try and bring on labour last night, but apart from some regular yet painless BH, and two so painful I couldn't talk contractions, NOTHING. NADA. IT STOPPED. Angry So annoying! I thought this was it! Ah well.

The consultant offered me an induction the other day and I'm kicking myself for not taking it when I get my hopes up like that!

How's everyone else getting on? Is anyone permanently swollen now? I am. Even resting doesn't bring it down.

mamapants · 27/04/2014 07:11

Thanks for sharing your PE story moomin.
I'm not worrying too much now as bp has gone down slightly and other than visual disturbances have no other symptoms. And am having regular checks now so its very reassuring.

Have been having tightenings all evening and night last night. They were regular at one point and then started spacing out more. Don't really know what to expect from going into labour naturally as was induced with DS. So was half convinced I was going into labour last night. Very frustrating!

Who is due next? I'm due 1st of May.
Although I was reading something the other day that said the average was actually more like 40+3 so that woulf take me to 4th of May

MasterFlea · 27/04/2014 07:46

I'm permanently swollen now. It is sore too. I can't clench a fist. Feet hurt a lot.

I was awake until 4am with BH. They were 4 mins apart and I was really considering it was labour. At least I figured out how to use my contraction app.

The weird thing is, last two times I had my waters break and then contractions start so now I think that is the only way to know it is the real deal. And I also could talk through my cx even when in the hospital and over 5cm dilated. It could be that I will ignore the signs, thinking they are BH.

Good luck Polly. Thinking of you now.

dobedobedo · 27/04/2014 07:50

Master I'm scared that I'll not believe I'm in real labour and end up giving birth at home in the bath! Shock

SarahJinx · 27/04/2014 07:55

Lots and lots of Symptoms on the Maybies board this morning! Nothing at all from me, 39 weeks tomorrow and this bean ain't going nowhere yet. Bump hasn't dropped, still no braxtons, nada.

Congrats on completing your last shift kally it might feel mode not being at work initially, but man alive, it'll feel SO darn good the next time you don't have to get up for it!

Hope everyone has a happy Sunday, we're off to my ma for roast beef, happy siiiigghhhhhh!

PotatoPolly · 27/04/2014 08:09

Thanks everyone, off to the day assessment unit at 11.15 for monitoring etc so I'll do my best to keep you updated!
I know what you mean about the swelling, had to take my rings off yesterday :(
Oh my god I'm terrified they're gonna say there's been a mistake, the MW didn't see waters at all and to just go home and stop wasting their time! Sad

bushprincess · 27/04/2014 08:17

Good luck at the hospital today Polly! Sounds like u may be meeting your baby soon!!

kally hurrah! Hakuna Kazi!!!

Enjoy the roast today Sarah, good luck with the essay writing moomin, glad bp is dropping mamma

Have a lovely relaxing Sunday everyone!

bushprincess · 27/04/2014 08:25

X-post Polly. Don't worry there is no way they'd think u are wasting their time even if she was wrong Xxx

Minions · 27/04/2014 08:31

Quick drop in to say our gorgeous daughter Hannah was born 32 hours ago! Hopefully I'll be back to fill you in but all I can say is the 30 hour labour & 3rd degree tear are most definitely worth it! She's perfect & amazing x

ClearlyMoo · 27/04/2014 09:02

Oooh congrats Minions, love the name Hannah! Thinking of you Polly!

Erm sorry if TMI has anyone with SPD have you tried DTD lately? DH had a nice surprise from me this morning but now I feel totally crippled. Hips and pelvis killing, arms aching like I did press ups and down below a bit sore from under use! I hope I recover. It seemed like such a good idea at the time (for project evacuate baby) and obvs had v grateful DH but owww!

Back to pineapple stem and heartburn I think!

Minions congratulations!!! Beautiful name, wow 30 hours Shock . Enjoy your snuggles x x x

Polly thinking of you! Good luck. X

At this rate we'll have more April babies than May!

Clearly I've been there, no acrobats at this stage Wink . Try spooning with cushions for support... Not the sexiest but we'll try anything right? My DP has been told, he put her in so he can help get her out! Grin thankfully he's up for the challenge.

37+3! I'm getting a pineapple today. X

moas · 27/04/2014 09:41

minions congratulations!! Fantastic news and Hannah is such a lovely strong name! Looking forward to hearing more when you have the time!

clearly I expect it's the spreading of the legs that causes the spd pain, my physio said to always try to keep the legs together when swimming etc, so for sex it's better to spoon or go on all 4s. Fingers crossed it'll have hormonal effect for you though!! :)

polly best of luck today!

chemas · 27/04/2014 09:45

Due on the 6th of May and feeling excited for number 2! Due dates and feelings ladies? Grin

ohdearitshappeningtome · 27/04/2014 10:00

ohdearitshappeningtome · 27/04/2014 10:01

Wahoooo minions!!!

wm3010 · 27/04/2014 10:16

Congrats minions, and what a lovely name, it was on our short list.

Bit fed up here, feeling sore and grouchy but nothing resembling contractions really. Patience is not one of my strong points!

chemas · 27/04/2014 10:40

Ohdearitshappeningtome, how was labour and birth for you? Congratulations!

bushprincess · 27/04/2014 10:43

cogratulations minions and welcome to the world Hannah!!!!!!

impatientlywaiting · 27/04/2014 10:47

Huge congrats Minions. Amazing news on Hannah's arrival. Xx

mumof2aimingfor3 · 27/04/2014 10:50

Congratulations minions

polly I was put on the drip to speed up labour as well as penicillin (I carry strepB or GBS whatever name you want to give it) for my second daughter as my waters went at 36+ weeks. Labour was easy, she arrived within 5 hours of waters going as I went straight to labour ward. If you can get swabbed for GBS just to check as your waters will have been broken for a while.
