Polly how exciting! Sounds like you could be meeting your baby soon!
My hind waters went before they broke the rest of my waters and apparently they had meconium in them, so they rushed through my induction and rushed to get me on the drip, but it sounds positive if they've let you go home tonight that if your hind waters have gone, at least they're clear!
I could rave about induction all day, I loved it and would gladly sign up to be induced next time if possible
I felt like it was all under control, there was never any panic or uncertainty, yes it felt managed but the midwives explained everything that was happening, warned me about what they were going to do before they did it, offered me pain relief before they knew the pain would kick in and I felt very safe and cared for.
Did they say how your cervix was? If it's soft, effaced, short etc then if they do induce, you could kick everything off naturally with just the propess/prostin, after which your waters could go naturally or they can break your waters. That was the plan with me until the meconium. Also how far along are you again? I was warned that induction was unlikely to work, and I may need intervention, because of only being 37 weeks, but my cervix was already soft and effaced and baby was very low so the induction worked very quickly. I think being conservative with pain relief helped; I had paracetamol for most of it and then diamorphine when they put the drip in (didn't work as pain relief but I slept for thirty seconds between every contraction which was a godsend!), and gas and air for the last hour of contractions and the pushing stage, and the pushing only took 9 minutes. But a lot of people recommend epidural as soon as the drip goes in; I can see why because the contractions are intense but it helps to think of each one as achieving something - however the midwives were more than happy to give me an epidural if I'd wanted one, which is one of the benefits of being in a hospital as opposed to birthing centre.
That's just a big mash-up of my experience, what other women on the ward told me, what midwives told me and what I've seen elsewhere, everyone is individual and different but that's my experience and advice to someone facing a potential induction. Try not to dread it, relaxing is the best thing you can do :)
Best of luck for tomorrow, how exciting! I reckon we'll have a fair few new Maybies before May 1st!
I'm sure I should be more tired considering it's half 4 and I haven't slept yet. I decided to do an all-nighter for my essay and do all the feeds in the meantime to let OH sleep. Gives me an excuse to sleep and avoid visitors later
