Many congratulations Bensmum
Dont think I could handle anyone touching my feet Rumpel. Ive had acupuncture before now and think its briliant so will book myself in for a session as soon as I go over my dates.
Oh Im so sorry to hear your bad news jmcmugwump. Yes it wasnt exactly good timing on his part but Im sure it will all turn out ok in the end. If thats possible.
Thankyou nicand2. Guess my ds will have his jab once the gp has sent me a letter.
Hope all you ladies are ok this afternoon. xx

nowanearlyNicemum · 28/09/2006 16:52

just back from really positive meeting with consultant and she's 'willing to let me' go to term without programming a c/section ... and then we'll see.
so glad I managed to put my point across without turning into the gibbering hormonal jelly that seems to have eaten the 'normal' me!!
so determined now to enjoy the rest of this pregnancy without stressing about c/sections. 1. stop being so grumpy, 2. make the most of my time left with 'just' dd, 3. put my feet up more!!!
not sure that 2 and 3 are compatible but will do my best

totally, hope you managed to keep calm today and that the blood pressure didn't rocket too badly...

mmmchocolate - sounds like a show to me. I had mine on Sept 13th and still nothing moving for me - aaaarghhh!!! gingeme, ROFL at you likening a show to a jellyfish!!!

congratulations bensmum3 - another September baby. Will there be many more???

sorry to hear you had a bit of a scare binbon, sounds like all is under control now though.

Rumpel, thanks for the acupuncture points. Am looking round for someone to go to nearer my due date. Anyone have any opinions on the efficiency of acupuncture or reflexology for bringing on labour. Think I'm going to try both

marthahm · 28/09/2006 17:18

totally-that's fab about your school news, what a relief.
tigerlion, read your posting and got straight on to the phone to book acupuncturist-apparently the place that i use does an appointment 1 week before due date so booked in for next friday. hope it doesn't hurt too much.
nowanearly, great news, glad they listened to you.
congratulations bensmum and well done.
poor you jcm, very upsetting for everybody. horrible for it to be so sudden and so near the baby's due date. funeral places can usually do the funeral within 1 week. i know that jewish people have theirs the next day. i hope your oh is going to be ok.

pmoore · 28/09/2006 17:30

Hello every1,

Sorry to hear the news jmcmugwump-hope you get everything sorted without too much stress.

After my midwife appointment this morning I got sent to the fetal assessment unit as I had raised BP-been there 5 hours. My BP settled and was allowed home. Did get to see a consultant though (been midwife led all along) he asked if I'd like a sweep to try and get things moving. I agreed and well.......... it is so painful, anyone else experience it? But I asked if childbirth was as bad- may have to rethink pain relief during labour!!!!! Hopefully things will get moving within 24 hours, knowing my luck though I'll still be here next week.

Got to rest to get over the ordeal now.

Take Care all.

nowanearlyNicemum · 28/09/2006 17:42

sorry jmc, we cross posted - so very sorry to hear your news, your dh must be in a terrible state. thinking of you.
as you say, puts everything into perspective really doesn't it?

nowanearlyNicemum · 28/09/2006 17:45

good news for your dd, totallyfloaty - you must be really pleased

pmoore, how exciting!! we'll watch this space then... when is your due date? - I can't find you on the list...

OP posts:
DogMum · 28/09/2006 17:47

Sorry to hear about your FIL jmcmugwump. It's a bad time to have to deal with bereavement and I hope you and your OH are managing.

totallyfloaty - massive relief about your dd's school. I'm in denial about schools at the mo - surely they'll improve in the next few years ...

Gingeme, I'm looking forward to Tuesday. It's 11.30 at starbucks (in the basement) on the corner of Old Broad St and London Wall. I think as well as the two (four) of us, it's catgirl, clon, swizzler, marthahm and mrsblobby. All welcome obviously.

How exciting pmoore, watching out for your news. btw, I've put you and lisamarv back on the list - somehow you'd got lost.

nowanearlynicemum-3rd oct (5 days time), I have been added back to the list, kindly by dogmum. Not over due yet but I told the doctor I'd had enough. Really do feel like I am waddling today.

catgirl · 28/09/2006 20:55

jcm - so sorry to read your news. Thoughts are with you.

Totally - glad you got your dd's school sorted, schooling is so stressful isn't it!

pmore - I had a sweep last time - awful, giving birth is much better, honest - not invasive if you see what I mean, things heading the right way. Although if I remember if it is going to work it will do so in the first 24-48 hours

I am having some acupuncture on Tuesday (before meeting up) and will ask her then about more appointments - had some last time and I am convinced that is one reason why I delivered when I did and as 'easy' (note inverted commas!) as I did!

Have booked a manicure and pedicure for Saturday as a treat - never had a pedicure, but feet like hoofs so necessary I feel!

wuzzlefraggle · 28/09/2006 21:46

congratulations Bensmum!!!

jmcmugwump - im so sorry to hear about you and your dh's loss. my thoughts are with you both xox

MrsBlobby · 28/09/2006 22:33

JMC - so sorry to hear such news. It really does put things into perspective. I'm sure you won't go into labour at the wrong time - somehow you need to feel right about things for that to happen.

Swizzler - yes, with hypnobirthing you just go into a deep relaxation so that when your contractions happen you let your body do what it has to do, without you tensing up and making it really painful. I think the idea is that your body knows what to do, so it's a case of surrendering and letting it happen. It certainly can't hurt, anyway....

Has anyone thought about nursery places yet? I was shocked to find out that most of my NCT lot have already looked into / booked places! Seems premature to me but apparantly not! How long in advance are you supposed to book?

MrsBlobby · 28/09/2006 22:35

And congratulations, Bensmum - such great news!!!

MrsBlobby · 28/09/2006 22:35

And congratulations, Bensmum - such great news!!!

sallyrosie · 28/09/2006 22:48

JMC - sorry to hear your news, hope things are sorted quickly.

Bensmum - congratulations

pmoore - I had a sweep last time when post dates - didn't make me go into labour but had a couple of false starts and made the eventual induction far easier as cervix was ripe and starting to dilate so didn't need the prostin gel or drip etc. It did hurt though, but not as much as labour! Think the actual stats are something like 7 women would need to have a sweep for 1 of them to go into labour, but doesn't increase risk of infection etc so safe to try if you're fed up!

Re nursery places - I have one booked for Feb, but that is only because my DD already goes there. Didn't bother till long after she was born last time. Depends on where you are in the country and when you want to go back to work.

Hope everyone sleeps well tonight. Am praying that will go into labour. Stomach feels so tight that think baby going to pop out 'alien' style but no show or even false starts...

Take care and sweet dreams!!

Swizzler · 29/09/2006 09:26

Any further signs Sallierosie? No twinges or anything here - have a feeling this baby is going to be hanging around for a while.

So sorry to hear about your FIL jmc. Hope all the funeral arrangements go OK and that your OH is bearing up. Not what you want to be worrying about at the moment.

Totall: great news about the school. Hope it helps with the BP.

NNNM: congrats on standing your ground with the consultant.

Have also been thinking about acupuncture for encouraging labour. My local holistic clinic place does Chinese and Japanese acupuncture, No idea what the difference is, but will investigate.

DH and I getting increasingly grumpy due to being busy (him) and pg (me) and in the same small space (DH works from home). He's buggered off for the morning now, so I can tidy the front room without being grumbled at! Must be hard on our partners as well by this stage - not much they can do apart from wait (and get woken up several times in the night).

sallyrosie · 29/09/2006 09:32

Well, another night without anything happening!
I don't think anything works to bring labour on - I've tried it all, even to the point that DH and I are having sex more often than we have ever done before and I am still having no signs of labour at all...Think just need to get used to the idea that I like to grow my babies for as many weeks as possible!

I have even been sleeping really well for the past few nights - have moved into spare room as DH was irritating me (breathing, moving, that kind of thing...) and suddenly am only waking up once or twice and sleeping really deeply. Although got woken up by DD bouncing in to tell me proudly that she'd done a poo on the toilet this morning (rather than in her night time nappy). She was ever so pleased with herself!

Have a good day all, am really jealous I can't come to this meet up, but hope to be in labour by then and London is a bit of a long way to come!

Hello all

JMC, so sorry to hear your news, I hope you and your oh are coping ok, not what you need right now.

Wiffy and Bensmum - congratulations on your arrivals being home!

Millie I hope the flooring goes down ok, am in the same position with deciding lets rip out bathroom and kitchen while I'm pregnant, seemed a good idea at the time, little did I know how stressful dealing with builders would be when they don't turn up. Got some great guys in now although the house is a building site still but hoping for a builder free environment from next Wednesday YAY!

I am ignoring all advice about starting labour I really do not want this little girl to make an early appearance!!

Looking forward to the meet up next week.

Lisamarv · 29/09/2006 12:45

Hi all, can anyone describe a "braxton hick" for me, I don't think I've had any and I feel really left out!

sallyrosie · 29/09/2006 13:11

Lisamarv - my braxton hicks vary quite a bit - sometimes I just feel your bump and it is all hard for a minute or so, other times you can have a strong BH where you feel quite uncomfy/pressure 'down below' etc.
They are practice contractions, but aren't painful, just uncomfy at the worst.

DogMum · 29/09/2006 13:26

Lisamarv, I haven't had any either. I don't think everyone gets them. Experienced mums, is that right?

nicand2 · 29/09/2006 13:40

Is anyone else getting fed up of their maternity clothes now we are approaching the end?

I've sorted out my wardrobe and got out all my non maternity winter stuff. I've also pulled out all the summer maternity wear and stuff that doesn't fit me now, I'm going to bundle it all up to go on e bay. I've kept out a few pairs of comfy trousers and tops which will probably go in the bin after the baby arrives.

Bundles seem to sell quite well on e bay and I can't wait to go and treat myself to a few nice bits (probably in a bigger size!!)

Seona1973 · 29/09/2006 13:41

everyone gets them but not everyone is aware of them. I didnt feel anything in my first pregnancy but my body must have been doing something as when I went to be induced I was already 3cms dilated. I am not always sure if I am having them this time either as it could just be the baby moving as my bump feels quite solid all the time anyway. Sorry, I'm not very helpful am I?
