our nct teacher talked about the mooing too, even worse she demonstrated which frightened us all a bit-was v dramatic.
poor you with the varicose veings tigerlion, i imagine that doesn't feel pleasant.
hope the school decision goes ok for you today. agree with dogsmum, how on earth can you keep bp down with that.
i've had loads of success on tube with getting a seat. have learnt how to look pleasant but suffering terribly, rubbing tummy and back etc, anxious face-disgusting behaviour but it gets results-have only had a few bad journeys-during which i imagine screaming for f**k's sake i am almost giving birth give me your seat-it's always the fat 50-60 year old men who totally ignore pleading face.
dh has lost words to describe how large the bump is now gemmity gem, bet yours will be gobsmacked.
now, i had a question for all of you who've done this before. i'm v v sorry if tmi. how much stuff is there with a show? and does it have to be blood stained? can't work out whether it was just a big increase in what's been going on before or whether it was a show.-- sorry!

Morning, Just thought I'd update my details. Not a bad nights sleep, the turning over thing is getting worse though. Pain in ribs and right side is awful all the time-got midwife this a.m. so will ask her opinion. A bit worried that I have been leaking my waters as well. Not too sure.

Sorry me again marthahm your show is a bit like a mini jelly fish! Slightly pink in colour. Can be a bit bloody but not loads.
I leaked waters with ds3 but the midwife said it was my fore waters and was being plugged by babys head. Aparantly its quite common. You just feel like your knickers are wet all the time. Its clear liquid and doesnt smell. Its when your waters gush then you ring your mw! My hind waters didnt break with any of my ds's till their head emerged. Hope this is of some help.

Hello everyone, haven't posted for ages, was looking forward to having more time to join in once on maternity leave, but have just spent 3 weeks in hospital with pre eclampsia, and now have a beautiful baby girl, due on 10/10, but induced on 16/09. Thinking of Emzickle and hoping they are managing to control the bp.
I had a moulded bath seat for ds2 and it was probably my best baby buy.

Congratulations Bensmum!

binbon2 · 28/09/2006 11:25

Hi everyone

Just thought I'd add to the breast feeding /bottle debate. With my DS I exclusively breast fed until four weeks, and then introduced one bottle of formula as I didn't seem to be able to express more than 2 oz. He managed fine, and didn't get any kind of confusion. we carried on with breast and formula until DS was 6 months, at which point he just decided he didn't want breast anymore.
Another point to add is that DS's first feed in hospital was formula as he didn't seem to get on with the breast at first. It didn't put him off the breast at all, so don't be too worried about accepting this option.

I've just spent 3 nights in hospital as I started to bleed on Sunday (36 weeks). If I had been 38 weeks I would have had a section there and then! Thankfully the bleeding has stopped, and myself and the baby are fine. In a way the hospital stay helped ease my nerves about coping with a new baby. Shared my ward with a mum and newborn the last night, and it was reassuring. The mum was having trouble breastfeeding, so the staff suggested a formula feed. However, the next day, they were back to breastfeeding and managing fine.

My DS has been unsettled with everything though, so am a bit concerned about how he will cope when I go back into hospital to have the baby (I had just got DH to agree a homebirth, but the bleeding has put paid to that).

Swizzler · 28/09/2006 11:30

Sorry you're missing out on your homebirth binbon - seems like you have the situation under control, though. Maybe it's a good chance to get your DS used to the idea of your being in hospital?

Hope everything goes OK from now on.

catgirl · 28/09/2006 11:33

congrats Bensmum - maybe someone should start a 'graduates of due in Oct' thread?? not volunterring, as my due date isn't until 31/10!

Whiffy - glad you and Hannah are home, sounds like you are having a great time getting to know each other. How has your ds taken to her??

welcome mmmmchocolate

binbon2 - thanks for the info on feeding, just out of interest, when did you give your lo a bottle - I am hoping one of the night feeds! Glad the bleeding has stopped and you are home again.

Last day in work tomorrow - am I the only one still at work??

Looking forward to our cake-fest (or lunch-fest or whatever!) next Tuesday... anyone fancy a trip to Starbucks nr Liverpool St, London is more then welcome to join us lolling on a sofa or two!

binbon2 · 28/09/2006 11:51

Catgirl - to be honest I can't exactly remember what feed we started with for DS and formula. I know it wasn't the night feed though! I thought that it would be easier to breast feed at night rather than to prepare a bottle.

Swizzler - I hope the recent hospital experience does help DS when baby does come.

nicand2 · 28/09/2006 12:07

Gingeme- Yes DS is 22 months, my surgery sent me a letter inviting him in but i'd already spoken to HV and they said as long as he was under 2 on a certain date (can't remember the date now) then he would qualify and to wait for the letter.

Tigerlion · 28/09/2006 14:05

Forgot to ask if anyone had reflexology with previous births? Apparently there is a spot on your ankle that brings on birth if touched in the right place. Two people I know had it and their babies were born within two days of the reflexology section. Is this just pure coincidence or could there be something to it? If so, I am booking a session with the reflexologist ASAP!

Also regarding breastfeeding, I had a dreadful community midwife who told me that my nipples were not the way they should be and that I should express all milk. For three weeks I felt like a milking cow (with electric Medela pump - FANTASTIC BUY)expressing non-stop. I then saw a really lovely health visitor who said that the fact that I was able to produce milk meant that I could breastfeed. She wasn't seeing anyone for the next hour and a half so said that she would help me get into the swing of things with DS. From then on, I breastfed him for around three feeds a day, topping him up with either formula or expressed milk if he was very hungry and for the other feeds.

If you feel you can't do it yet want to do it, I really would persist and find someone out there who can help you. In retrospect I am shocked that the community midwife behaved the way that she did but I was a first time mother and misjudged the midwife's expertise - or lack of - in this field. For all soon-to-be first time mothers, if in doubt, always try to get a second opinion as you do sometimes tend to be vulnerable at first. I certainly was and am glad that the health visitor was so helpful.

Going to try to grab some kip now that DS is fast asleep.

Rumpel · 28/09/2006 14:50

Afternoon everyone.

bensmum - many congrats - what did you name her?

Just back from (hopefully final) midwife appt. BP is still down, which is good, and baby is ready to go! I am avoiding stimulating acupoints and reflex points until Saturday night though, as my parents can't be here until Sunday and I would really like it if my Mum could be with me as well as DH.
Awake all night last night - soo stuffy, had period type cramps and back twinges and baby kept bouncing her/his head off of my bladder! Up 4 times for a pee!

Tigerlion - points to press are:
where the 2 joints between the first finger and the thumb meet, at the top of the fleshy web, just tucked under and into the join. LI4 in acupuncture

Massage all the pad of the big toes - it stimulates your hormones.

Massage the inner and outer heel of the foot, from below ankle tip to sole. Uterus and ovaries.

Place your 4 fingers on the top of your inner ankle joint and where your first finger falls, on the leg bone, just tuck under the edge of the bone - it should feel quite tender to touch. SP6 in acupuncture.

I am going to start on Saturday night - I've got magnets to apply too and acupressure suction cups! Good luck.

Totallyfloaty - have you tried aromatherpay oils for your BP? Mine was rising and rising so I have been trying to rest as much as poss and also going for a warm, not hot, bath most nights.
Lavender, ylang-ylang and marjoram are all good for lowering your BP. Run your bath then add about 3 drops of each oil to a small cup of milk and swish into the bath. Try to steep for about 20mins if you can. (Easy for me as my first LO, maybe not so easy for you) You could always place them in an oil burner too. Make sure they are good quality oils though. I would recommend Tisserand, Lothian Herbs or Purple Flame. Some Boots sell them or you can order from internet.
My BP has been normal now for last 3 appts. Good luck!

totallyfloaty35 · 28/09/2006 14:54

Tiger,im a holistic therapist and i do reflexology, yes there is a point on the foot near the ankle also you have to work the endocrine system,it can be quite effective and i have induced a couple of ladies but unfortunatly i cant reach my own feet to induce myself.Shiatsu works well as does accupuncture for induction,so from 40wks i will be having every treatment possible

totallyfloaty35 · 28/09/2006 14:58

Hi Rumpel, yes i been using oils, thing is my BP usually 80/50,so when mine goes up it looks like everyone elses normally does!!
Anyway am off to phone education authority and see if we won appeal...that should do interesting things to my BP

DogMum · 28/09/2006 15:13

Congrats to all the mums whos babes have come early,i hope all is going well with you...wish mine would come early, but i realise that too early causes more stress than being late so i hope your all happy and healthy.
My BP has gone down drastically as dd got into the nice school,so can now remove her from horrid school full of bullies who know more swear words than me(and this is 9yr olds)feel like dancing but alas look like swaying walrus when i do

jmcmugwump · 28/09/2006 16:22

Well, have had some news yesterday which puts all my pg complaints into perspective, my FIL flew back from teneriffe yesterday morning and had a massive heart attack in the airport and died. We got a call at 2.45 to say he had died and had to go to the hospital - OH is obviously devastated but bearing up really well considering - but now we have all the funeral arrangements etc to deal with as he is the oldest son and I am so convinced that the baby is going to put in an appearance at the most awkward time. Am due on 13th and we don't know when the funeral is, but really don;t want to have the situation where OH has to chise between birth of first baby and father's funeral! Baby is so low now, it it gets any lower will be knocking o my knees! And Braxton Hicks have been going great guns, although that could still mean it is 2 weeks away or more, just want to get the funeral out of the way first if at all possible, might see what strings the funeral directors can pull. Makes all my aches and pains seem a bit pathetic now! Buggar his timing - my OH is so upset that his dad will never see his first child, and as OH doesn't talk to his mum (long story but she did try to stab him so I will let him off) and my mum died 5 years ago my LO now only has 1 GP left - have instructed my Dad no more crap food or Whiskey as he is the only grandparent left!
