aw a pumpkin babygro! I haven't seen them.Where did u get it? I might have 2 get 1! LOL!
I hope mine is born right near halloween, my sis was & every year we used 2 have fancy dress parties! Was really fun!
Hope every1 has a good day!!
x

marthahm · 22/09/2006 10:27

hi gemnmity gem! glad you're back on line again. hope the moving around has been enjoyable and not too tiring. also that your mil has left you some things to buy for the baby. my dh will be absent til 9 days before too but not as far away. i'm hoping that the baby knows when everyone is ready-fingers crossed. whiffy has had her baby on monday and the rest of us are just getting huffier and larger. lots of new people have joined too which is great.
sallyrosie, hadn't considered halloween outfit, thinking that i'll be shattered enough trying to cope with a new baby. sounds like you have shed loads of energy! a friend of mine with 5 kids said that scratch mits were really useful for hers-i suppose it depends if you have a really scratchy baby-knowing my luck mine will have eczema like i did so i've bought a pair in case.
i reached 37 weeks this morning which is great but i am absolutely no where near going into labour even though i've been for a pre-labour bikini wax.actually, the pain of that might easily send one into labour. just increasing b hicks and apparently the cervix softening but no dilation (sorry if tmi). have a breastfeeding teaching session at the hospital this afternoon. hope to learn something. the nct has one too next week but i'm not sure i'll need to do it twice and you're meant to take your partner-dh is v busy at work and would probably not consider it useful time spent.
i'm with you on the whole troll thing sallyrosie, much better to try to be kind than to be always sceptical and not surprising with us all pg and hormonal that we were sympathetic.
luboo, saw those kits but didn't know what i'd do with the result!
anyone still managing bedroom aerobics? i think might have to admit defeat now, feel like a hippopotamus with arthritis.

wuzzlefraggle · 22/09/2006 10:41

welcome back gem!

bendy - i dont think the ladies from the "out the troll" thread were calling our thread young sounding...i think they were referring to kats mothers posts.

Personally i do feel like an idiot now for being nice to and offereing sympathy and support to someone that was abusing our thread. especially when i think of the people on here that have had genuine worries etc. Thinking back, i did think it sounded a little suspect, but its one of those situations when you dont really want to say anything just incase, after all, how were we to know for certain?

wuzzlefraggle · 22/09/2006 10:42

ignore typos

Swizzler · 22/09/2006 10:43

Gemmitygem: welcome back!

Luboo: I had my mw appt yesterday and was measuring 35 cm at 37w - she was a bit puzzled, but said I didn't look small (I don't) and it was probably cos the baby's head was engaged (currently at 4/5). So I shouldn't worry.

I had my last day at work on Wednesday and was strangely sad as well - I've been looking forward to finishing but felt a bit odd and lost at the end. I'm planning to go back, but when I do it will be months ahead and I'll have a BABY. V. weird. Still can't picture actually having a baby at the end of all this. Only 3 weeks (or so) to go so will have to get used to the idea soon.

Apart from a few aches and pains (esp period-type pains at night - v annoying) not doing too badly. Oh, and the heartburn. Life is so much better now I can have an afternoon nap .

MW told me yesterday to go and pack my hospital bag so am doing just that today. Any other ideas for passing the time before this baby arrives?

Haven't read the troll thing but will have a peek - if it is a troll, I feel sorry for her. Don't think anyone should feel bad about being supoprtive and sympathetic, even if misplaced. Just goes to show what nice people we are .

Are we still on for a meet-up on the 2nd? Looking forward to eating lots of nice cakes.

Swizzler · 22/09/2006 10:44

Oh, and sending good building vibes to those with the problem kitchens

marthahm · 22/09/2006 11:00

swizzler, i am wondering what to do with myself at home. have come up with endless watching of the west wing, knitting, lots of baths listening to radio 4,lots of sleeping next to the cat, reading trashy books and occasional cleaning and cooking efforts. don't seem capable of much more.

Justers · 22/09/2006 11:18

Morning all. I too I'm really sad and have bought a hallowen pumpkin babygrow and booties for baby! I got them off ebay. I am now looking for christmas outfit and have spotted a fab pair of reindeer booties that rattle!! I definately have too much time on my hands at the mo.

catgirl · 22/09/2006 11:27

swizzler: thought we were meeting up on Tuesday 3 Oct? 2nd Oct is my first day of mat leave and I don't want to plan to do much.... please tell me it is the 3rd?!

If it is the 3rd, yes I am still OK for that - starbucks nr Liverpool St (sure there are several!) - this one is Old Broad Street (exit L'pool st near McDonalds, not the Great Eastern) - Whiffy advised there are lots of comfy sofas downstairs. About 11:30? Although doesn't matter if anyone is early really does it.

Of course, this includes DogMum/ Clon/Gingeme/anyone else who wants to join us - just look for the group of women who can't actually get up from the sofas!

I still have a week in work to go, so dipping in an out of this thread a bit. Did have day off yesterday for lots of appointments, so found myself in tesco buying newborn nappies, breast pads, maternity pads, paper knickers (which are fab!), so started gathering bits and bobs.

Hope everyone else is as well as can be, welcome back Gemmitygem.

Happy weekends!

pmoore · 22/09/2006 11:58

Hi everyone,

I am due 3rd Oct-first child, decided not to find out what sex. I am new to this website, just been recommended by a friend. Not too sure how it all works but I'll give it a go. Had a scan two Fridays ago (making sure baby wasn't breach) and was told the baby was already 7.5lb, I am really worried about the babies large size. Anybody else had this? I am really fed up at moment and keep willing this baby to be born, going out is such an effort but I keep getting told baby will only come when its ready!

Hope everyone is feeling well today and enjoying the cool rain. Had a Dr appointment today and it seems that the baby is lying back to back and transverse. Do any of you have any experience of this and should I be worried at such a late stage? [I'm 37 +4]. At least she's head down so thats something!

I had no idea this troll thing went on - there seems a lot more to mumsnet than what you first think! I agree with the going home early thing being not very likely. I was born at 32 weeks [many, many moons ago!] and stayed in for 6 weeks....I'm sure they try to keep you in til at least you are healthy and viable!

I wish you all a lovely weekend x

clon · 22/09/2006 12:52

Hello all

Well good news is that the kitchen builders put off a job to come and do ours so they arrived Wednesday - horrah! They will be here all next week too. Bad news is that I am confined to one room as the rest of the house seems to be taken over with it all so endless baths, watching dvd's etc not an option for me yet, just endless cups of tea making and ensuring biscuit supply topped up when required. I will be so happy when it's done. I really don't want this baby to arrive early as I want to have at least 2 weeks to myself - selfish I know but think I need it both mentally and physically.

I have been booking up as many lunches/coffees as I can to get out of the house. My first week of mat leave isn't the treat I had envisaged!!!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. I'm still up for the 3rd meet up.

sallyrosie · 22/09/2006 13:20

Asda have cute halloween baby outfits, as do mothercare.

Another internet shopping parcel arrived today as well as my sling - a new nursing bra - decided that the M&S ones from last time were just toooo uncomfy so bought a bravado one (also get MN discount from blooming marvellous). It is SOOOOOOOO comfy - fits like a crop top and is quite stretchy to accomodate your boobs changing size during the day. I'm going to order a white one as well. Really really recommend it. Think would also be comfy to sleep in if needed (to hold the breast pads in place!) Come in sizes that vary so you don't need to know your exact size either, just roughly. I am a real convert here! Website good too - ordered it 2/7 ago and here already.

Sending good builder vibes to all those having work done...am really jealous- I want a new kitchen and bathroom.

Right, off for lunch. Period pains have settled with paracetamol and don't seem to be getting worse so prob not labour...never mind

sallyrosie · 22/09/2006 13:21

oh - and pmoore - my dd was 8lb12oz - they told me on the scan she'd be small!! Scan for size really inaccurate I think, and its the size of the head not the weight you need to be worrying about

nowanearlyNicemum · 22/09/2006 13:27

haven't read the troll thread - don't think I'm going to. how sad. despite it all sounding a bit odd I still feel better for giving her the benefit of the doubt. hope she sorts herself out.

welcome back gemmitygem, you globetrotter you!! hope your inlaws aren't driving you mad... yet!

milliee, have you contacted your midwife? definitely a mix up there, me thinks!!

dogmum, ROFL at your cousin watching the Poseidon Adventure and her baby turning at the same time as the ship. oh, by the way, the only time I EVER ironed dd's muslin squares was after the first time I washed all the baby stuff - yes, I think this counts as nesting Re the heartburn, I've also been spared in both pregnancies... lucky us, by the sounds of things

sallyrosie, I've been sick several times this past week. someone told me it was the body's way of clearing itself out before labour... fingers crossed - But if that's the case, why does it let me eat a tonne of Fruit and Nut afterwards?????

never found a use for the scratch mitts myself but the woman I was sharing a room with at the maternity unit last time insisted on putting them on her baby - and the staff kept whipping them off at every possible opportunity!!

bedroom aerobics becoming scarce now marthahm, not sure whether it's due to my lack of motivation or dp's - probably both!! still, they say that sperm works wonders to kick start labour ... all sounds a bit calculated though, doesn't it?

mamado, not sure how baby can be transverse and have her head down at the same time? am I being stoopid?

OP posts:
Seona1973 · 22/09/2006 13:30

I have booked my cut and colour for next Tuesday so I'm bound to go into labour now

I have also seen pumpkin outfits for babies - Asda is normally really good for getting them in the smaller sizes. I bought dd (nearly 3) a witch outfit in Mothercare yesterday as it was reduced to £4 and I thought that was quite a bargain. I also got her the T-shirt that says 'I'm the big sister'.

While I was there I got measured for my nursing bra - they are the most unflattering hideous things especially if you have big boobs like me but thats another thing off my list anyway.

Must pack my bags, must pack my bags (am due 2 weeks on Monday - at this rate I'll be packing my bags while breathing through contractions)

Rumpel · 22/09/2006 14:17

Hi everyone - hope all is well with you today. Too too hot for me last night - woke up at 1.30am and too hot today as well.
Have just had a lovely reflexology though and a bikini wax - so I am prepared. My hair has hardly grown at all whilst pregnant - what about everyone else? I have defo not had that lovely shiny hair and clear skin thing either!
mamadoo - i don't get it either. If your baby is transverse - lying across your abdomen, how can it be head down? Face down maybe?
Anyway why don't you start crawling about on your hands and knees for about 20 mins a day - they say that can turn a baby, and sit forward instead of lying back and also if you have a gym ball sit on that to watch the TV.
I've been using a gym ball all the way through - they are great. Comfy on your bum and strengthen the muscles you need to support your bump and pelvis/back.
Millee - I am not sure how I can still touch my toes! I was quite fit before I fell preggers - used to go to gym and belly dance but I've been feeling ill most of the pregnancy so am quite lardy now! I did go to aquaorobics for a while but I have had to rest the last 6 weeks or so as my blood pressure was escalating.I massage myself everyday so maybe that helps.

All you working ladies - I've been off since the end of June and am LOVING it - not bored one iota. I think that you need to teach yourself to relax - it doesn't come naturally if you are a worker/active person. I never used to be able to, but the last year I haven't had a choice and much to my DH relief I am much better at chilling out now. He could chill out as an olympic sport!

wuzzlefraggle · 22/09/2006 14:23

rumpel - ive been boiling these last few days/nights too...although i think its dhs fault as he had the "bright" idea of turning the heating up as he didnt want me to get cold...how many times have i explained to him that its like having a blimmin hot water bottle strapped to you whilst pregnant??? lol

clon, great news about the kitchen!!!! im still waiting to see if they turn up on the 4th with the last bit of it (the oven, hob and hood)

hope every1 is well

DogMum · 22/09/2006 15:35

BendyB, don't take it personally love. It's easy to be wise after the event, but while it was going on, we all wanted to help. And I don't think any of us have experience of prem babies, so how would we know? We're hormonal, happy, unsuspecting hippos. I'd rather help someone who doesn't need it than ignore someone who does. You've done a kind thing by being supportive, but we'll all perhaps be more watchful in future. Don't give it another thought.

Glad you're back in time, GemmityGem. Just hearing about all that travel makes me tired, but I'm afraid I've got a few more muslin squares to iron before I can have another rest.

Sallyrosie, are the period cramps the cervix moving into the correct position (forward facing rather than backward)? If so, it could be v. exciting.

Swizzler, I think the meet-up is the 3rd too and Marthahm's list of things to do is pretty comprehensive. I'd add taking the dog for walks (until I can no longer bend down to pick up his poo - sorry tmi) and ironing baby clothes.

Bedroom aerobics? Can't remember. Must have at some point though if huge bump is anything to go by. Marthahm, did you say you were coming on the 3rd? Hope to see you.

In my antenatal class the other night, the teacher made the men take turns to put a rucksack of coal on their fronts and then bend down to pick something up from the floor. I think they found it uncomfortable, but they only had it on for half a minute each.

mamado · 22/09/2006 15:53

I think the baby is transverse and head down because she is kind of lying on a diagonal, and only 3/5 engaged so head not in the exact place yet . It sounded odd to me too hence my post for advice!

Sallyrosie - I second your advice for bravado nursing bras - I used them last time and they are brilliant, extremely comfy and easy.

Also with scratch mitts - I agree, never found a use for them, if anything they seemed to fall off all the time and then one of the pair would get lost! Like a miniture version of a baby sock disappearing in the wash!!

BENDYB · 22/09/2006 15:54

yeah dogmum ur right, not even gonna waste my time thinkin bout it now anyway!

Just been walking round the shops nearly all day, feel well tired now! I'm also boiling hot aswell! & its pourin with rain here, but still so so hot! I saw some of the pumpkin babygros! How cute! lol, i didn't get 1 though, thought it'd be a bit silly as I'm not due till 30th anyway, was v tempted though!

hope every1s ok!

MrsBlobby · 22/09/2006 16:00

Hi Everyone!

So sorry I haven't been around for a while. I was working like crazy before mat. leave to get everything done in time, then, since going on leave 3 weeks ago things have been so hectic. I've finally got down to buying all the stuff, plus all the NCT and antenatal classes have kicked in, not to mention all the coffee mornings!!! I'm so much busier now than I was when I worked! And this fully formed community of mums out there that I'm just beginning to discover - it's a whole new world.....!

Thanks for thinking of me, DogMum - have just spent what seems like hours catching up on all the news! I can't believe some of the babies have already been born - congrats to al so far - I hope all are ok....

To summarise where I am, still pg!!! 37 weeks today!!! Feeling not too bad. Def. slowed down dramatically, get terribly tired with not a great deal of time to rest (must sort that one out sharpish!), have bouts of terrible battery acid indigestion, but otherwise I really can't complain! My midwife says the baby will be 8lb2, so we'll see if she's right.

Went to excellent NHS antenatal class where the midwife explained exactly how to sit to get the baby in the best position. So, now the head's fully engaged and I'm getting funny cervical twinges, so now I'm wondering how to slow it down as it's now a bit serious and I'm getting cold feet!

Slowly getting there with birth bag stuff. Still haven't washed it all, or packed, so really should get a move on.

So that's me, really. I see you're all meeting up again. I'll try and come along...

pmoore · 22/09/2006 16:03

Mothercare suits are really cute-I am trying to get to Bluewater to buy one but I can't even be bothered to walk round-thats how bad its got! Gave up driving too until after birth so buses are even more hassle as haven't used them in 10 years! Thanks for making me feel a little better about babies weight now-just have to wait and see. This website is great.
