winter a baby shop near me does a put away service, where you pick your pram/buggy at about 12 weeks then you pay weekly/monthly until it's paid off then they deliver it just in time for baby. I did it last time so will be doing it again I want a quinny buzz with carry cot in strawberry red

utopian99 · 24/04/2014 17:14

We have a stokke which has a lie-flat seat option which is like an ergonomic bed, so didn't get a carry cot too. We did get a proper footmuff though as DS was a winter baby, and it was invaluable in the grim northern winter so will be breaking that out again.

I think someone (random maybe?) Mentioned wallaboo wraps up thread which we had too. They're fantastic - ours lived permanently in the car seat and saved a lot of faff with snowsuit/sleeping baby conundrum. The other thing a friend gave us was a fleecy star wrap, which he lived in as a newborn...

irishgirlinlondon · 24/04/2014 17:15

Congratulations on all the great scan news today - so exciting Smile

utopian99 · 24/04/2014 17:18

this thing

WinterLover · 24/04/2014 17:18

I did source a carycot type of thing for min which will be great for this winter I just wished id gone for a parent facing one.

Told work today (via email cos I chickened out) and there fine with me being pregnant. Feel like a weight has been lifted.

blamber · 24/04/2014 17:57

anna I must be even more clueless! I had no idea what a carry cot was. I was shocked by how much these prams are. Do you really need to spend at least £500?

blamber · 24/04/2014 17:59

utopian that star wrap looks so cute!

alita7 · 24/04/2014 18:00

blamber I'm just going to go on ebay and look for prams/ travel systems in my area. I'm not paying full price, I'll go pick it up so I know it's decent.

Hopeful83 · 24/04/2014 18:09

Congratulations to Random and Alita (I hope I haven't missed anyone off who was also have a scan).

I had my scan this morning - all is fine :) I am so relieved as I was convinced I was going to be told bad news. It was so amazing to see how much s/he has grown since the 7 week scan. Remarkable! Mine was also kicking around a lot, she had a hard job getting a good picture but got there in the end. They changed my date from 2nd Nov to the 4th Nov but not much difference TBH. My Nuchal measurement was 1.6 - is this ok? I had the bloods too, they said about a week for results so I wasn't given any odds or anything.

I was looking at prams last night too, they are so expensive! My DH was mortified. We're going to start having a look in the shops over the next few weeks - when do you recommend actually buying? How many weeks?

Chivesmum · 24/04/2014 18:19

Yay to all the scans :)

Chirpchirp - how many weeks are you? I felt that rubbish so I know how you feel but thankfully it has lifted this week

We didn't have a carrycot last time - had the mamas and papas sola which I can't recommend enough although we wore it out so need to buy another!

alita7 · 24/04/2014 18:24

congrats hopeful! I almost cried at mine :p
are you interested in the nub theory?

alita7 · 24/04/2014 18:25

And I think someone on another with 2.5 nuchal was concerned but I think under 2 is Ok?

Hopeful83 · 24/04/2014 18:32

Thanks! I don't know anything about this nub theory - what is it?

RandomInternetStranger · 24/04/2014 19:05

I bought a second hand Bugaboo Cameleon at about 5 weeks! Blush I was a little excited! Grin

With DD I had everything, and brand new, and barely used a thing! So instead of getting a moses basket to be used all of twice I figure the carry cot will do. I'll get a nice new curved mattress for it and then I can use it out and about and the odd occasion I'll use it in the house. DD either slept with me or on me or in the pram or car seat till I started using a cot for some daytime naps at about a year! Even if I do get a cot later on it'll be a real cheapy like the Ikea £35 one. She used it for 2 hours a day maybe 3 days a week at the most for naps then was with me through the night so not spending out a fortune on it.

I must say I am a bit more excited after today's scan and now the downs risk has come back so low. I was almost convinced this one had downs.

DD told me today that all the "new baby/big sister" bits I've got her which she took to his house have mysteriously disappeared and she doesn't know where, because everything else it was with in the same bags are all still there. My god he's a nasty jealous prick. Or rather his broody needy clingy desperate whore is. Hmm So I gave her another pile to take over tonight. Grin

alita7 · 24/04/2014 19:06

Hopeful, there is a little sticky outy thing that looks like a penis but it isn't, it develops into either genetalia. You can see it from, a side view of the baby. If it is an angle, especially upwards then it is probably a boy, if it is straight/ parallel with the spine and if it is split in two then it is likely to be a girl. You can't see mine properly on the pics but you could on the screen, and I don't know if it I saw the poo bits or a nub, as I don't know if you can see a nub if you look at the bottom, but she showed me the bottom and it had two lines, which would indicate a split nub.

I think you can sort of see it in this one, but not sure:

Thanks Alita I will have to look at the scan photos to see what I can see

TeaNCakes · 24/04/2014 19:56

Hooray for all the good scan news the last couple of days!!

I've been feeling very sorry for myself, had a phone call on Tuesday from the midwife cancelling my booking appointment, which I'll now be having at 12+3 (was scheduled for 11+5) which she didn't seem concerned was quite a long way after the 10 week NICE guideline. Then i had a migraine yesterday and had dreadful sickness with it. And to top it off I nearly fainted at work this morning too Sad I've just been for a mani+pedi to cheer myself up

Still got 13 days to wait before my scan, nervously looking forward to it. Any others with scans this week?

barmybunting · 24/04/2014 20:02

So pleased to see the news of happy scans today Grin!

This pram thing confuses me... Is the carrycot the bit that pops in and can sometimes be used as a car seat? What happens when they grow out of it? God I am clueless, I am off to read about this!

OP posts:
RandomInternetStranger · 24/04/2014 20:14

The carry cot it the bit that looks like a moses basket (The oval bad with the hood) and when it's on the chassis it's a pram. It will last up to 6 months at the most but they usually start wanting to sit up and look around earlier than that.

The pushchair is the chair on the chassis you push, Some lay back flat and are suitable from birth if you don't want the carry cot.

The car seat is the car seta but some prams & pushchairs can adapt to have the car seat clip on to the chassis. That's called a travel system. However babies can only be in the car seat for 2 hours so a lot of the time it makes more sense to switch the baby into the pram/pushchair/wrap/sling/etc. I must say I think I only used the car seat on the chassis once or twice, was a bit of a waste of time for me.

Nessalina · 24/04/2014 20:17
