Hi everyone,

A new thread for us chatty bunch due in November. Could someone repost the stats? I'm on my phone so can't do it. Thank you!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Forgot about the acne, which I suffered with a lot first time around (not too bad this time, do have a few spots creeping up though). I find tea tree products work very well. They're good at attacking the spots but not overly drying, yet will keep down oiliness if you're greasy too. I use a tea tree face wash and toner, and when it was really bad in first pg I also used tea tree moisturiser and night cream. Helped a lot.

barmy I told work as soon as I knew, but I imagine my situation isn't commonplace (sadly!). My boss is a good friend and the company is tiny, so no big groups of people for news to go around and no worrying about being passed over for promotion etc (the boss is the next position above mine!). So it made sense to tell her, so that she understands how I'm feeling, and that if the worst were to happen it wouldn't be a surprise and she would be prepared with time off for me too.

I can understand why people don't however, which is sad Sad In my last job I would have really battled with deciding when to tell, as my managers there were rather lacking in compassion and news spread like wildfire.

irishgirlinlondon · 16/04/2014 13:46

TheWildOnes I know how you feel, I had bright pink spotting followed by dark brown spotting in week 5 and was so worried.
My GP referred me for a 7 week scan that really put my mind at rest, my little jellybean had a really strong heartbeat - I hadn't realised I was so uptight about it but it's totally natural to think the worst.

Now 11+4 and so far so good. Hope you can relax a bit more now and enjoy!

irishgirlinlondon · 16/04/2014 13:55

barmy personally I'm going to wait until I've had my dating scan.
Luckily my boss is family orientated with 3 kids and he mentioned in a review a few weeks back that he like me to be in the company for years to come with a few kids along the way Easter Blush

So while a little bit of me is dreading telling him, I know it will be fine once we iron out the details and start planning my workload while I'm on maternity.

I think it would be OK to hold out until your 12 weeks if you wanted too, tell them when your ready and comfortable to do so

blamber · 16/04/2014 14:45

Another acne sufferer here. I had it before the pregnancy, but it seems to have gotten slightly worse. Effaclar sounds really good, but it contains salicylic acid; I thought that was a no-no in pregnancy? I know it's only 0.5%, but still...

alita7 · 16/04/2014 14:48

Winter, didn't you say you had cramps before you were pregnant? Maybe pregnancy is just making them worse- maybe your expanding uterus is putting pressure on whatever is causing the cramps? Or maybe you're just extra sensitive to your uterus growing :)

moggle · 16/04/2014 14:54

(Occasional lurker...) I am still using face wash and scrubs with salycilic acid in, but not creams or lotions. My logic being that even a scrub stays on your face for max a minute before being washed off so unlikely much / any could get into your bloodstream. As far as I know it is deemed unsafe because it hasn't been tested in pregnancy, not because skin application has been found to be dangerous. Personally I'm happy with the risk but everyone's different.

moggle · 16/04/2014 14:55

... If salicylic acid does work for you though and you're happy to use it, there are cheaper options than effaclar available.

alita7 · 16/04/2014 15:15

What products is it found in moggle? I'd consider it if it works.

MrsWombat · 16/04/2014 15:45

Random this is the link of what should have happened at your booking appointment: (and what should happen at your next appointments) publications.nice.org.uk/antenatal-care-cg62/appendix-d-antenatal-appointments-schedule-and-content

I suggest you contact the PALS service for your hospital, and tell them what did and didn't happen at your midwife appointment, as it doesn't sound right to me. (As a receptionist in antenatal clinic!) I would also go and see your doctor about your SPD (and everything else) to get the ball rolling ASAP.

There are two things that stand out to me as needing flagging to PALS. The blood pressure not being done. But also not identifying you as a needing additional care, or at least letting you know that you had been identified and things would be done further down the line. You are vulnerable because of your lack of social support, and ADHD. And high risk because of your previous history of SPD (this isn't mentioned specifically in the NICE guidelines though Angry. By the sounds of it you are also at risk of perinatal mental illness and she should have followed up on that and asked a few more questions.

Sorry you are having a tough time. Flowers Please send an email to them. I found them very helpful with my issues.

ElleOhElle · 16/04/2014 15:53

finally caught up! general nausea has improved in the morning but have had to stop myself being sick several times after the last few days - just comes out of nowhere!!

WinterLover · 16/04/2014 16:49

alita yeah I did but they found no cause of the pain/cramps. They've eased up a bit now which is good

alita7 · 16/04/2014 17:36

Winter are you worried about them or just fed up of pain? I wouldn't worry if they were already there but I sympathise with the pain!

pinkgirlythoughts · 16/04/2014 18:11

barmy, I'll be telling my headteacher when we go back (I'll be 10 +1 on Tuesday), as she mentioned thinking about where to put as all next year before the holidays, so I think it's only fair to let her know I won't be able to have a class responsibility. I'll probably not share it with anyone else until my dating scan, though.

AveryJessup · 16/04/2014 19:12

Just checking in at 10 + 2 - another 2 weeks to go until my 12 week scan. Seems like I've been pregnant forever! And I'm not even past the first trimester yet...

Sickness has got really bad for me in the last week or so. Every evening I've been feeling awful, just lying on the couch hungry but not wanting to eat anything. Just the smell of DH cooking dinner makes me queasy.

Yesterday I felt a bit better and had a lovely Caprese salad for lunch, which I wolfed down and then a veggie stir fry for dinner. Veggies seem to be the way to go for me right now... can't stand meat and was the same with DS.

I've been waking up about 2 or 3 times in the night to pee as well. Doesn't help that we moved DS to his own 'big boy' bed over the weekend so he has been getting up a few times and fell out of the bed(!) a couple of nights ago too. My to-do list before DC2 arrives is pretty full - get DS used to proper bed, potty-train him, get rid of his dummy which he uses to sleep and win him around to the idea of a sibling... he doesn't seem keen on any of these things so far anyway!

Congrats to everyone who has had good scans and welcome to all the new arrivals... the countdown to Week 12 starts here Grin

Bit nervous as just got call from MW, TSH levels are high (I'm hypothyroid) althought FT4 is fine, but edging towards too low. Going to see GP tomorrow to up meds but part of my brain is now worried, thinking "How long has it been high? Will that have an effect?". I was tested about 2wks before bfp so wasn't deemed necessary to test immediately, which I understand, was tested last week at booking so about 5wks since my last test and 3wks since finding out I was pg, so not awful or anything, just now over worrying.

Will see the endo soon, just first tri nerves! Hope all is okay in there.

Spannertime · 16/04/2014 20:03

I have just had my first scan. Spannerlet is in there with a tiny little heartbeat.

It's really in there.

Sazhoopz · 16/04/2014 20:25

It's been a while so thought is pop in and say hi!
Had a stressed weekend after a small bleed and some spotting didn't have it at all with ds so was slightly panicked but went to Drs on Monday who sent me straight to the EPU and after a couple of hours wait had a scan and saw the reassuring beating heart! Can't wait to see the peanut again in a couple of weeks.

Turns out I got my dates completely wrong and EDD is now 11th

Avery How old is your DS mine is 22 months and that's pretty much my to do list as well!

barmybunting · 16/04/2014 20:52

january I hope all is well now they have spotted it. Will they monitor it closely now?

Lovely to hear of more positive scan news today!

Thanks for the info on when you are planning to tell work. After speaking to DH about it tonight, I'm going to tell the head teacher when I go back on tues but ask him not to tell anyone apart from those necessary for recruitment until after my scan. I really wish I was still at my old school, I would happily have told my head there by now as I was fortunate to get on really well with her. I left there at Christmas when we moved due to DH's job and being on a short term contract feels so different after being in a permanent teaching role in the same school for years so I feel a bit lost with this head teacher really!

moggle · 16/04/2014 20:57

alita I think some of the clearasil range has salicylic acid; neutrogena, probably some stuff like boots or super drug own brand anti spot stuff especially if it is for blackheads. I would pop to boots and check some ingredients lists. Hope it works for you!

WinterLover · 16/04/2014 21:03

Im not worried although sometimes I expect to see spotting. They definitely get worse with stress so maybe that was the factor prior to pregnancy (this with dp has been going on just over 2 years but got lits worse 6 months ago

januaryJump · 16/04/2014 21:22

barmy They're pretty good at monitoring it, I'm probably being overly nervous, I'll have another test soon and I see the endo next month but I'll be on the clinic list before that and can have telephone appointments, request tests etc. I find pg a bit of a nervous time generally! DS is 16mo but I still get nervous about him being okay when he sleeps Blush

alita7 · 16/04/2014 21:54

Winter it could even be functional or nerve based?

I have unexplained pain/ pulsing on either side around where my ovaries are, predominantly on the left side. I was expecting to be told I had ovarian cysts at my early scan but they recorded no cysts and saw no other abnormalities except tilted uterus! No idea what the cause is, only started about 8/ 9 months ago and I seem to notice it more in pregnancy but that's probably due to being on the look out for problems.

ElleOhElle · 16/04/2014 22:19

11 week's tmw and have felt so sick this evening - constantly gagging and stopping myself from yakking up. any ideas why my symptoms would be like this - any logical reason?? feel so crap Sad Sad

TeaNCakes · 16/04/2014 22:21

Hi everyone!

Just been having a catch up - definitely a fast moving thread here! Smiles to those with reassuring scans, and hugs to those with sad news Thanks

I'm interested that many people are telling work quite early. We don't legally have to say anything for ages (although how anyone could keep it a secret until 24 weeks I don't know!) but I can totally understand about wanting to allow employers to be prepared. I'm really nervous about telling my boss as I've recently had my contract extended - people keep saying how pleased they are that I'm staying for another year from August. I'm just too nervous to tell them until my nuchal scan at 13 weeks (three weeks to go!).

Sickness is still pretty bad in the morning, but seems to be getting better in the rest of the day, although I'm too nervous to be able to enjoy not feeling so bad!

January I think they've picked it up pretty quickly as some hospital labs won't recheck TFTs within 6 weeks, but can understand feeling more apprehensive about it at the moment.

Hope everyone so able to be taking a good break over the long weekend!
