Morning all, congrats on all the teams blue's & pink's its just soooo exciting! Welcome all newbies too.

Kiddicare have some great deals on at the moment, worth a look Smile

How's the weight gain going, I feel humongus so I dared to face the scales this morning and Ive gained 4lbs which given how big I am seams no where near enough! dh keeps telling me how 'bumpy' I am- huge...yeah thanks!
I did see this online which I thought was useful for explaining the weight gain....

•Baby 3-4kg (7-9lb)
•Additional fat 2.5kg (5.5lb)
•Water retention 2.5kg (5.5lb)
•Increased blood and fluid 1.5kg (3lb)
•Larger uterus 1kg (2lb)
•Amniotic fluid 1kg (2lb)
•Placenta 0.7kg (1.5lb)
•Breasts 0.5kg (1lb)

have a great weekend x

Morning all, anyone else with older ones hitting that 'halfway through the holidays' wall?
DD1 and DD2 (6 and 4) trying to kill each other. DS (10 months) has a terrible cold and teething. Poor thing, had temp of 39 last night, not sleeping or settling for anything, slept in with me last night. DH had the sofa and is on 12 hr shifts until Tuesday.
Then DS pulled the tray out of the Xbox this morning and broke it. I went upstairs and cried composed myself for 5 mins. I could really do without the hormones today!

I hope everyone else is enjoying their weekend more than I am! x

isitme1 · 12/04/2014 11:37

Blossom thanks for that.

Makes sense as we are growing a baby inside our bodies!

Felt like a total failure driving today.
I normally wear my ugg boots as they have more support in the sole but I bought some toms as feet swell and thought they would be ok to drive in. I couldn't keep foot on clutch! They just kept slipping off! Glad ive found out before the test!

Nazly · 12/04/2014 12:07

Hello ladies and welcome to the new ones x
I read somewhere (I think it may have been nhs news letter) that now I should be sleeping on my left side preferably and not on my back or right because left is best for me and baby... I just can't get used to it... Whenever I wake up during the night i find myself in a less than perfect position lying on back I just get incredibly tired only lying on left... Is it really bad for me/baby to move position to right and back every now and again? Don't want to block the blood stream to the little one...

Nazly · 12/04/2014 12:11

White: you are kidding, right? 4lb is nothing!! You are doing very well in comparison with me! I put on almost 8kg, that is more than one stone and I am not too worried... I was a size 10 and still sort of am... My mum keeps telling me to be careful with eating or I regret it later!!! but just can't stop myself... As soon as I stop eating I feel nausea and on top of that my little one seems to love sweets !

Inbl00m · 12/04/2014 12:17

top I quite like the name August!

polka welcome and we (and a few others here) are due on the same day Smile

Cindy5389 · 12/04/2014 13:42

Hey all, just checking in. Great news to hear of all the scans. Boys and girls seems to b evening out. Kinda makes me want to find out the sex but must have will power.. Was sick a couple of mornings at the beginning of the week and was scared ms had started up again, but am ok now so guessing it was just the smell of the fridge. Must remember to make sandwiches the night b4.. 18weeks today :) does seem to b going quite quickly.

Cindy5389 · 12/04/2014 13:46

Forgot to say with regards to weight, I'm glad they weigh u in kg's coz pre pregnancy I only knew my weight in stone so doesn't sound as scary with the weight gain. I have not weighed myself recently as I don't have scales but I'm sure I have put on a bit as I'm eating loads. Can't help it coz I'm always feeling hungry.

Eastwiththem · 12/04/2014 13:48

I wouldn't worry about lying on your back. It's supposed to stop blood flow going to your bump and lower body, but thinking about it you would know this was happening long before you did any damage (if you lie on your arm and cut off the blood you get pins and needles to warn you to move, I think it's the same sort of thing). I know a lot of people who found it physically painful to lie on their back towards the end of pregnancy so you end up sleeping on your side anyway at some point.

Also think how many women in Asia, Africa and Latin America basically go through pregnancy and birth with no medical guidance at all, it's not like those places are suffering from low populations as a result of back sleeping.

mamamoomin2 · 12/04/2014 14:15

I wouldn't be worried if you wake on your right or back..as East says planty of women get through pregnancy without being told a million ruleson what to do.

I have some Toms too and they are super slippery. Twice in the park in dry pavement I almost did the splits. And I'm no dancer.

CumbrianExile · 12/04/2014 15:31

I'm struggling to get comfortable in bed. I normally lie on my front, but it isn't happening at the moment. Hate sleeping on my side and my back is worse!

topmammy · 12/04/2014 16:12

I still haven't bothered weighing myself. I haven't ballooned really noticeably in weight yet so not too concerned. Will just wait until the MW weighs me again. Although she didn't at my 16w appt so who knows if she will at my 25w one.

I bought one of those dream genii pregnancy pillows in town today. I like sleeping on my side but keep getting numbness on the thigh I'm laying on so hoping it will help with that, and also support my bump which is getting larger by the day!

Ella I feel the same about the in between stage and wanting to feel movement. I'm 18+4 with my first, so not sure really what to expect either. Feel like i've felt some little pops and flutters but i'm never too sure and i'm being super aware at the moment because of anomaly scan anxiety!

Nazly I've read more than once that it's better to sleep on the left side but there are just some things you can't control! As others have said, I reckon you would instinctively move if it's an issue.

Tea Wow, sounds a bit chaotic at yours right now! I hope that you all survive the rest of the holidays unscathed!

weebairn · 12/04/2014 18:52

I'm still sleeping on my front…
Last pregnancy i couldn't bear to lie on my back near the end (or during labour). If I remember correctly it's more because it could make you feel faint than causing a problem to the baby - I think you would move automatically if uncomfortable. Anyway you can't help what you do when you're asleep!

The in between stage is a bit odd. I felt one flutter 2 weeks ago, nothing since. I feel as though I'm bigger, but I'm still in my normal trousers. Haven't weighed myself. Nothing that looks anything like a bump. I also googled 16 week bumps and was amazed at all the different ones!

BooSurprise · 12/04/2014 21:21

Just checking in, been busy with a 9month old who has decided not to sleep anymore and a return to work.
Saw the diabetic mw last week, and going back Monday as having problems in the morning and she didn't seem to have any idea what to do with me! Also seeing high risk obstetric team next week for first appt, I'm hoping I might get an extra peek scan but I don't think I will at this stage, so 3 weeks to wait until 21 wk scan, mw did find heartbeat so that was a relief as still no movement here.

dontevenblink · 12/04/2014 22:45

Hi all, haven't checked in for a while, nice to hear all the good scan news :)
My SPD is really kicking in now Sad, the back joints of my pelvis click loudly every time I stand up and I can actually feel them moving apart, yuk! I had it really bad with DD (dc1) and had to use crutches, but it wasn't so bad for DS1 and 2 and managed to walk quite a bit with them. I'm already struggling to walk about and I'm only 18+6 so a bit scared about what its going to get like - not sure how I'm going to manage with 3dc 6 and under and no family support at all (all on other side of the world...).

I have to sleep on my left side due to the SPD which I never normally do, but I use a v-shaped pillow between my knees which really helps. Lack of sleep at the moment is more due to DS2 thinking 4am is a suitable time to get up every morning...!

I've got my scan on Tuesday, am so, so, so nervous already as I haven't felt the baby moving really. I am such a worrier anyway, just want to see a healthy wriggly baby! We are keeping the sex as a surprise so will be team yellow till the end :)

Nazly · 12/04/2014 23:20

Thanks ladies, I feel a lot better now with sleeping position : I should also search and find these pregnancy pillows some of you are talking about, have no idea what they are ...

So am I the only one who keeps going on the scale and keeps putting on weight ? Maybe I should try to be careful with what and how much I eat, but it is really really difficult... Can hardly control myself with eating... Is it only me out of control?

A question for more experience mums : what is a good brand for nappy? I haven't bought anything yet, whatsoever... But would like to start buying stuff after next week scan... There are hundreds of brands out there, I want a good one which will not break our pocket - if that's possible,,, and I am not one for reusables, just too busy(read lazy) for that... I didn't find any review pages for nappies on internet ! That's strange!!

Also do you think I should wait for high street sale season to buy necessary stuff like pushchairs and clothes or should i just look around for deals? I am also trying to find second hand sales nearby... (I looked on ebay for second hand good brand pushchairs, but good brands are expensive on ebay even second hand!!)

dontevenblink · 13/04/2014 00:49

Nazly I tried loads of makes of nappies and found Pampers to be the best for us, fit well and didn't leak. The supermarkets often have really good deals on them too. I could have cried when I realised they didn't do them here (NZ), nappies here are pretty rubbish and expensive. Luckily we shipped a massive load out in our container for DS2 when we moved, but won't be able to do that for DC4 Sad

There always seems to be deals about for pushchairs etc, you don't need to necessarily wait for sales. I always found Sainsburys clothes to be really good (I'll be reusing a few of mine again for the 4th time so they last!) and they used to do 25% off sales quite often (haven't been in the UK for 2 1/2 years though so I'm not too up to date :) It wasn't until I left the UK that I realised how cheap clothes are there - my mum is bringing me some out with her :)

For second hand sales, look out for NCT sales, we got lots of stuff through them. The only thing you have to watch out for is that if you help out at the sales you get first dibs on all the stuff so a lot of the good stuff has gone before they open the doors to the general public. I helped out at a couple and got some brilliant stuff really cheaply - I can't remember if you have to be a NCT member though for this (I was due to attending the antenatal courses).
Have a look out for Mountain Buggies on Ebay, they are bombproof and you can get carrycots etc for them.

Good luck with your scan Nazly, I've got mine next week too.

Also, I purposefully don't own a set of scales, I live in blissful ignorance Grin

BooSurprise · 13/04/2014 03:05

nazly I wouldn't fret over your weight, as long as your not eating takeaways for every meal and snacking only on junk weight gain is likely to even itself out over the course of your pregnancy.
Re: nappies I would buy a few different brands to see what works for you, we mostly cloth but I have used pampers- pretty good, tescos same, boots - rubbish, but they all tend to suit slightly different shape babies.
I would def check out nearly new sales look around for other ones in your area as well as NCT as theirs can often inflated prices although you do often get a better brand of used stuff, I think the NCT take a commission to sell so higher prices to cover fees, same as eBay. For pushchairs/prams also look on FB for particular brands groups, as prices are usually a bit lower than eBay- although you may have less comeback if something is posted to you and it's not in the condition they said it was. Also gumtree for local stuff or local FB selling pages, or preloved.com (I think) if your after something in particular. Places like mothercare are often just reducing stuff, so don't have to necessarily wait for sales and they and

BooSurprise · 13/04/2014 03:08

Darn it! Not finished!!
Places such as John Lewis will often price match too- can you tell I'm a bargain hunter!!
Supermarket clothes are def good value, and sainsburys do still have regular 25% off weekends.
Pants smallest munchkin awake again so need to run!

Bananapickle · 13/04/2014 07:43

I honestly think nappies are baby dependent. Pampers always leaked on my DD but others swear by them.
For the first stage of nappy we used Tesco own and they were fine but the best (and cheapest!!) for the next stage up to potty trained was Lidl nappies. It's definitely trying the cheaper own brands as they quite often out perform the brands.
As for bargain pushchairs ebay is hit and miss and it may be worth giving it a little more time as we just got a Babystyle Oyster with carry cot and adapters for car seat for £100.
If you want new though there are always deals somewhere!
It's far too mucho in having an excuse to buy things, i need more self control!!

weebairn · 13/04/2014 08:17

I found nappies were actually much of a muchness so just ended up using the cheapest - wilkinsons. Supermarket own brand ones are quite cheap too and just as good as huggies/pampers in my experience. But other people say some brands leaked with their babies.

I also used reusables for around a year - starting at 3 months. When toddler started being a pest with nappy changes I took the path of least resistance again though… still saved some money/environment!

isitme1 · 13/04/2014 08:24

We use pampers
ds1 is tube fed around 400-500mls from evening to night and we needed a nappy that wouldn't leak
they are perfect for both dc

arghh need new bras! My last maternity bras really put all the weight on my shoulders and back which hurts. Tired me out within minutes!

KittyMittens · 13/04/2014 09:47

Hi All, first time to post but have been reading the thread since January, thanks for all the advice so far! For me it's first baby and due on 23.09, I'm 35.
Was interested to read the weight gain stats, was size ten pre pregnancy and doing lots of running & cycling but have already put on a stone. Not going to think about it too much!!
As I said thanks for the thread, it's been an amazing support so far!!
