For those of us due February 2007 and moving from the first to the second trimester ...

We've made it this far - only another 6 months to go! (Gulp!)

OP posts:

I get asked if #2 was planned too, all the time. There'll only be 17.5 months between DDs 1&2 and people always seem to assume that we didn't want that.

They look goggle eyed and say "Oh, you're..... brave!" or "That'll be..... um..... challenging".

Bienchen · 05/10/2006 15:56

Hi there - hopefully not too late to join?
I'm 20 weeks pg EDD 24 Feb. This is my second, have DS of 11 years. 20 week scan is on Monday and I'm really looking forward to it. Second time is still as exciting.
Apart from bits of nausea I'm fine but with massive boobs and belly by now.
Work is a bit of a pain as I'm facing redundancy!
.
Everybody keeps asking me whether we know whether it's a b or g - don't remember that from last time - maybe the scans have improved a lot or has it just become fashionable?
Take care all of you!!

Ruth2808 · 05/10/2006 15:58

I always used to get asked if our first one was planned because I was only 22 at the time then again for my 2nd because they were quite close together and now for my third as if 3 is too many children! But now I am pregnant and saying that this will be my last child they keep telling me I'll change my mind. You just can't win with some people

babydrivertoo · 05/10/2006 21:22

hi folks, checking in again after a week away.

sorry, having read through the vast amount of posts, I can't remember who it was who was asking about breaking the news to toddlers, but we've just got DS a book called "There's a House in my Mummy" which is going down well.

plumpbump, hope you manage to get things sorted -you need to look after number 1, and the bump, and sod the rest of the world.

Had a relaxing few days away, apart from getting a tummybug which had me chucking up on Tuesday and still feeling a bit wobbly. Baby's been kicking like crazy nonetheless.

Only other news is that I think I might be starting to get SPD which is no fun at all (just scared myself reading the posts flagged up on the MN first page) but having spotted it early I'm hoping that it won't get too much worse if I'm really careful from now on.

take care all.

Plumpbump · 06/10/2006 08:26

Thanks Babydriver too and Sorkycake for your kind words. I am off to the surgery today but can't see the GP I saw ten days ago for my migraines. They've booked me in to see the Nurse Practitioner who can apparently do everything a doctor can, including signing off, but I am absolutely panic striken that she won't. Any advice by 10.30 much appreciated.....

On cheerier note, we had scan yesterday and it went well. Baby is all present and correct. I struggled to see it clearly and wish I could go and do it all again. DH saw what he thought was ovaries - like a ram's skull shape. When we got the picture home, my parents thought they could see three little boys bits. So we are none the wise. Any description of either bits would be interesting to hear!

Plumpbump · 06/10/2006 08:27

Babydrivertoo - have you had SPD diagnosed - only understand it a bit, hope they can get you through the next few months ok.

Lucyb9384 · 06/10/2006 13:08

i might be wrong but i'm sure there was someone on here called snugglebumnappies who sells cloth nappies - am i right and are you stil here as i want to buy some!!

Plumpbump · 06/10/2006 13:11

Hey lucy - you are right, I'm sure. think her user name reflected the company, so if that's the case try

here

CurrantBun · 06/10/2006 14:57

Plumpbump, sympathies to you. I've read your 'rant' thread and think you have every right to feel stressed and unable to cope. Being pregnant is completely irrelevant to the situation.

Being signed off will enable you to put some distance between yourself and the situation. I think you need to be honest with work: tell them that you're being expected to carry too much on your shoulders, essentially doing another person's job as well as your own and your previous job. That is just ridiculous. Being signed off will hopefully also awaken your work to the fact that what they are asking of you is unsustainable and they really need to get their act together with regard to recruitment.

I'm 20 weeks on Monday and we have the scan on Tuesday. Excited but scared - hope everything's OK with the bubs! Don't want to know the sex so I hope any "bits" are undetectable!

Plumpbump · 06/10/2006 15:04

Thank you heaps Currantbun. Feeling calmer at thought of being off already!

As for sex of baby, believe me, we are none the wiser even with holding scan up to the light, back to front, so still will be surprise! Can't stop looking at the bub's face - so cute (but I am biased!!!) Good luck for yours!

suzi2 · 06/10/2006 19:33

For boy bits, you need to see the meat and the two veg for it to be a positive ID Just seeing a willy happens a lot and is usually a bit of the umbilical as they're not too far apart. For girls bits, they look for 3 parallel lines (and an absence of boy bits)

snugglebumnappies · 06/10/2006 20:43

Hi Lucyb, yes I am still here, only not posting at the moment as not much going on with me and finding it hard to keep up with all the posts, how do you all do it? Also a bit worried about SPD, had it really badly last time, whole pelvis felt like it was about to cave in and went through a serise of clicks and clunks (with associated pain!) everytime I turned over in bed, ended up a bit housebound in thye last 6 weeks. Am 19 weeks at the moment and starting to feel that grinding burning sensation when walking anything more than 50 meters, anyone used any comp therapies with SPD before?

suzi2 · 06/10/2006 20:58

Not with SPD but I have sacro-illiac disfunction and have seen an osteopath regularly before being pg with DS, since having him and during this pregnancy. And I'm certainly not struggling as much so far this pregnancy - even with carrying a toddler around. I think it's because I've had the osteopath keeping my pelvis 'on track' as much as possible. i didn't see an osteopath when pg with DS as I worried (who knows why!) but I'd really recommend it.

DontCallMeYummy · 07/10/2006 17:39

DontCallMeStupid but SPD = ???
I've just checked the anacronym and am still none the wiser...

Plumpbump · 07/10/2006 17:43

Hey DCMY! I'm no expert, but it's pelvic pain, I think. Watched a programme on it, looks VERY painful.

More info here

snugglebumnappies · 07/10/2006 20:02

Hi DCMY, SPD is Symphis Pubis Dysfunction, it occurs during pregnancy due to the increased progesterone and relaxin levels that are wizzing round your body from very early on, getting all the ligaments and muscles "soft" to allow decent of your baby's head into the pelvis. Unfortunatly for some women it seems to cause over "softening" and this causes the pelvic bones to grate and grind together and for the pelvis to become quite unstable, towards the end of my last pregnancy I was in agony, literally screaming with pain if I needed to roll over in bed or get up of the sofa, labour was a piece of cake after experiencing that! It took a good while to go after the birth aswell, about four months before things started to feel better. Not looking forward to it happening again!

MoosMa · 07/10/2006 21:38

A friend on mine had it and had to wear a kind of girdle for the last few weeks, I think she was ok fairly soon afterwards though.

qsack · 07/10/2006 22:49

hi there, my first post. 23wks nearly, due feb 6th. just reading through and saw 12yeargap talking about her 1/100 downs risk screening. i got a 1/140 result 6wks ago and we decided not to go for the amnio because of the risks so will wait till the birth to find out if our little one (DS3) has downs or not. feel ok about it although weird to try and imagine how life might be as we just don't really know anything about downs syndrome.....

12yeargap · 08/10/2006 08:43

qsack, it's swings and roundabouts. I'm in the clear over Downs, and that is a huge relief, but now I keep worrying about the amnio causing miscarriage, even though it's been 10 days. And if that were to happen, I would know now that I had caused the mc of a healthy girl. There isn't a right decision.

suis · 08/10/2006 12:04

Hello,

My first post on this thread too. I'm due Feb 11th and we've just had the down's risk thing to go through too. We were originally told that everything was fine, then they wanted to repeat the blood test because I had had some bleeding before the original one (less than pricking your finger, so I have no idea why it makes a difference) and the second test gave us a 1 in 202 risk, so we were offered the amnio. We decided against it on the ground that the amnio risk was higer than the downs risk and I doubt we would do anything even supposing the test came out the wrong way. Even so it's been very uspetting. It's hard having to seriously consider if you could cope with a down's child should it happen, and if not, could you end the pregnancy just when you are starting to feel the baby move, getting a real proper bump, thinking about names and planning pushchairs. I really wish there were better earlier tests so people didn't have to go through all the worry.

DontCallMeYummy · 08/10/2006 18:05

Well, SPD sounds RUBBISH, and another one for the things-they-never-told-you-in-the-mamas-and-papas-catalogue file. I'm feeling grumbly just because my belly has swelled to ten times its normal size in the space of a week and I'm in danger of poking small children in the eye with my exploded belly button, but I shall now be grateful I haven't been afflicted with SPD too. Bump and Grind? No thankyou...

Well, my knicker collection has just been Supersized so I may as well start doubling up on postings too...

suzi2 · 08/10/2006 19:36

lol Yummy. I'm MASSIVE this week. I wasn't this big until about 7 months with DS! Now if you want to hear things that aren't in the bounty book you should pop onto the labour & birth forum... eye opener!

qsack · 08/10/2006 20:55

hi 12yeargap, i don't want you to think i was judging you on your decision, i so wasn't!! for us it was just a case of, well we knew we wouldn't do anything about it whatever the result so didn't see the point of taking the risk esp. as this has to be my last pregnancy as i've got really bad and painful varicose veins this time round which hit me around 6wks so i really don't think i could go through it again or my veins could for that matter!
