We're going through these fast! Thought seen as we were filling up the last thread fast I'd attempt a new thread, not sure how to copy our due date list over though... Could someone else do that?

Hooray bump, glad you got to see your little one Smile

I don't understand the measurement stuff either or smp stuff. I'm a bit useless. Hopefully someone wiser will be along in a bit.

I do have a question of my own though. Midwife took bloods from me today. Normally after bloods I have a sore and bruised arm, this time it's also really swelled up! Is this normal? My arm has a big lump where she took the blood.

TroubleAndFyfe · 18/03/2014 17:36

Grin For good scan news today!

pebble82 · 18/03/2014 17:48

Bump, I'd take heartbeat as a brilliant sign :) I'm 10+4 too (although we have different due dates??). Really hope there's a heartbeat in there for me too. I keep forgetting I'm pregnant! Don't think I'll bother buying a doppler though as I know it'll worry me sick if I can't use it properly.

Loopylu84 · 18/03/2014 18:16

Bump that sounds really positive-congrats! Grin

I had my booking appt yesterday which went fine-the hand held notes they give you are massive though-it's going to be like carrying around an exercise book!
Scan 2 weeks on thurs-can't wait!

Bumpforme2014 · 18/03/2014 18:23

Thanks guys, pebble your symptoms have reminded me a lot of mine so sure you'll be fine, my due date has been moved to 10th October so far.

My sister has a Doppler and offered to use it on me but I said no until scan so think I will borrow it from her now as would be nice to hear heartbeat as didn't actually hear it today just saw it beating.

Loopy the notes are ridiculous and they don't even look at all of them from what I saw today. We are scan date buddies now for my next one.

MrsF2510 · 18/03/2014 18:37

That does sound positive. Envious to those having scans as I still don't have my scan date! I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and my booking in isn't even until I'm 11 weeks 6 days!

So pleased for people who have had good news!

Kittylou1 · 18/03/2014 18:51

Scan buddies x

Kittylou1 · 18/03/2014 18:56

Sorry troubleandfyfe we r scan buddies x

Kirstipops · 18/03/2014 19:04

Yay for lovely scan news today :)

MrsBadCrumble74 · 18/03/2014 19:17

Hello all you lovely peeps. I have been skulking silently on this thread for a few weeks paranoid to write anything in case I jinxed things (had a horrid MMC last November and bleeding with this pregnancy). So so happy to say I had my 12 week scan today and our little bear was waving its little legs and arms. Good heartbeat, good NT. All looks very good :)
I hope I can stay on the October thread - my original EDD from an early scan was 1st October but today the EDD was changed to 28th September (my daughters birthday) eek !

MrsF2510 · 18/03/2014 19:41

Yay MrsBad so pleased for you, though 28th sept - aren't you supposed to be on a different thread!! ;)

Sept / Oct is going to be an expensive time for you on a few years!

ohthegoats · 18/03/2014 19:55

Waiting for Harmony test results on Saturday - that would be the two weeks. Didn't think they'd call with them beforehand.. but I had a missed call from them today at 5 when I was at the gym. Tried to call back at 6, but no answer.

The basket case has returned, about 3 days earlier than I expected!! Gibber.

ohthegoats · 18/03/2014 20:00

Oh, and yay for good scan news. Phew.

binkybunny · 18/03/2014 20:04

Yay to heartbeats. Its so exciting.

And another yay to mrsb going back to work. You must be soooo looking forward to that?!

1week 2 days til our scan. Can't wait to see our little tafpole Grin

Captainmcgraw · 18/03/2014 20:11

So good to hear some happy news. I have to say this thread has got me very sad and anxious at times so it's great to know that things are also working out for people. Have my booking in on Friday (at 11+5) and first scan on the 27th. Literally counting down the days. Everyone has guessed I'm pregnant as I have such a big tummy already but I'm still somehow unconvinced. My hospital scan leaflet answers the question 'why do we scan?' with point one being 'to check the baby's alive' (!) However in my friend's area point one was 'to count the number of babies'. Count them? Good grief how many could there potentially be!?

fatpony · 18/03/2014 20:14

Glad to hear the good news! We are having a private scan on Saturday as my anxiety about my complete lack of symptoms got too much. Hopefully everything will be ok. I have got quite a bloated tummy over the last week but that could be the tube of Pringles, cookies and strawberry torte I've eaten recently, ahem...

binkybunny · 18/03/2014 20:37

Hey captain we're scan buddies along with pebble Smile

Grannyapple · 18/03/2014 21:47

COD what is it you want to know about SMP?

If you're employer offers the statutory maternity package, then you get 90% of your average salary, based on your pay btwn wks 15-25 I think...then you get the remaining 33 wks at the SMP rate (£136.78), or 90% of your average weekly wage, whichever is lower. The remaining 13 wks to take the maternity leave period up to 1 year, are unpaid.

Maternity leave is different...you're entitled to ordinary Mat leave of 26wks & additional mat leave of 26 wks to take you up to the full year (though the last 13 wks of the additional mat leave are unpaid, as explained above). Mat leave can't start before 11th wk of due date (unless baby born before this date). If you're ill in the 4 wks before your due date with a pregnancy related illness, then you can be made to start mat leave during this time.

The drop to SMP has been a shock both times for me so we saved frantically during the pregnancies to try to cover my share of the bills whilst off. Tho in saying that, I've found that we've spent less than expected (not had to dip into savings as much as we expected) as not spending the usual expenses (I.e no travel/commuting expenses & lunch usually eaten at home). In saying that, our food bill seems shocking so I'm thinking of switching to Aldi or the like...but I love the convenience of online shopping...traipsing round the suit market with two in tow is not my idea of fun.

Kirstipops · 18/03/2014 22:08

Bump, I found this on www.ob-ultrasound.net/ re: measurements taken at scans

"The following measurements are usually made:

a) The Crown-rump length (CRL)
This measurement can be made between 7 to 13 weeks and gives very accurate estimation of the gestational age. Dating with the CRL can be within 3-4 days of the last menstrual period. (Table) An important point to note is that when the due date has been set by an accurately measured CRL, it should not be changed by a subsequent scan. For example, if another scan done 6 or 8 weeks later says that one should have a new due date which is further away, one should not normally change the date but should rather interpret the finding as that the baby is not growing at the expected rate.

b) The Biparietal diameter (BPD)
The diameter between the 2 sides of the head. This is measured after 13 weeks. It increases from about 2.4 cm at 13 weeks to about 9.5 cm at term. Different babies of the same weight can have different head size, therefore dating in the later part of pregnancy is generally considered unreliable. (Chart and further comments) Dating using the BPD should be done as early as is feasible.

c) The Femur length (FL)
Measures the longest bone in the body and reflects the longitudinal growth of the fetus. Its usefulness is similar to the BPD. It increases from about 1.5 cm at 14 weeks to about 7.8 cm at term. (Chart and further comments) Similar to the BPD, dating using the FL should be done as early as is feasible.

d) The Abdominal circumference (AC)
The single most important measurement to make in late pregnancy. It reflects more of fetal size and weight rather than age. Serial measurements are useful in monitoring growth of the fetus. (Chart and further comments) AC measurements should not be used for dating a fetus."

I was 10+1 at my scan so was also too early to do these measurements, I think the wee neck doesn't really straighten out til around 12 weeks so that's maybe why they need to wait until then til they can do the "crown rump" measurement??

Monday is my 12 weeks scan, I have the day off work and hoping to fit a wee trip down to the Lake District over the weekend to celebrate my dad's birthday, hopefully then arriving at my scan (and take 2 of trying to give some blood!) all nice and rested :)

Bumpforme2014 · 19/03/2014 07:03

Thanks kirstiepops very helpful, sounds like it's mostly measuring size and nothing too worry about too much although it would have been nice to get all clear rather then wait another two weeks.

At my next scan I will be almost 13 weeks so I am actually glad I am getting another scan before I go into second trimester. I was also so scared during this scan that will be nice looking forward to this one. Hang on in there my little bean :-).

binkybunny · 19/03/2014 07:03

Hi Cod have a look at this link about SMP www.gov.uk/employers-maternity-pay-leave/entitlement. I'm not sure if I misread Grannyapples post but you get the first 6 weeks at 90% then the remaining 26 weeks at 136.78 or 90% of your salary, whichever is lower. You need to remember to deduct national insurance and tax too.

Have a look at your contract as your company may offer you more. I will get 6 weeks at 100% salary then 26 weeks at 136. If I was a permanent employee and going back to work for them I would get an additional 50% of my salary for the 26 weeks. But my contract expires on 31 August!

binkybunny · 19/03/2014 07:06

Sorry remaining weeks at 136.78 should be 33 weeks not 26. Got myself totally confused!!!

mum2kiss · 19/03/2014 07:23

Im trying to save as much as I can now as those 6 weeks at 90% fly by! Smp was £117 when I had dd 5 years ago so I'm glad to see its risen a bit with inflation. You do spend a lot less when on mat leave though...you can get away with spending minimal amounts at mummy meetups and going on long walks etc...

binkybunny · 19/03/2014 07:39

More spotting and cramps this morning. Almost went into panic but trying to stay calm and keep an eye on it... Noone tells you how stressful pregnancy is!!!!

MrsF2510 · 19/03/2014 07:47

Aww Binky, feel for you. Hopefully it's all fine x
