We're going through these fast! Thought seen as we were filling up the last thread fast I'd attempt a new thread, not sure how to copy our due date list over though... Could someone else do that?

I'm so sorry loopy there does appear to be a disproportionate amount of bad news mmc in this thread :-(

excited good news re scan, will you be under 11 weeks at your next one? As if you're planning on have Nuchal translucency scan you need to be at least 11 weeks.

At mil for the weekend trying not to appear pregnant as I result I'm not constantly eating which has left me feeling nauseous. We ate out for lunch then few hours later I asked what shall we have for dinner, which she replied "oh god I'm not having dinner after that lunch" which is odd to me even not pregnant it isn't weird to have lunch and dinner! It was only pasta not a feast!
Anyway will be having cheese sandwich.
Can feel a lot of stretching pains in uterus today. I'm so bloated I look about 5 months gone.

pebble82 · 14/03/2014 20:04

It's so silly how depending on where you live you get different care/advice. Oh well, I suppose we're still very lucky to have the NHS

magichandles · 14/03/2014 20:31

I'm so sorry for all those who have had bad news. I'm definitely on edge this pregnancy, but I remember being really worried with DC1 as well as I knew a co-worked had had a mmc so was aware they existed.

Me23 We're at the ILs for lunch tomorrow and I'm already planning what snacks I need to take with me and how I can sneakily eat them if lunch isn't exactly when I need to eat!

CareBearWithFangs · 14/03/2014 20:44

I'm so sorry loopy.

I'm also really panicking now about mmc. I didn't even know they existed before being on mumsnet.

Feeling a little better today whih obviously is making me super paranoid. My boobs also aren't as sore either.

porcito · 14/03/2014 22:03

Sorry to hear your news loopy and run.

Congrats excited on your scan!

It's been a busy few days here: had 3 days of hideous visits to dentists trying to find someone who wasn't too scared to treat a hormonal pregnant lady. Then, we discovered today the first dentist left one of his instruments in the tooth! Have been in agony for days with just a lowly paracetamol to stop it. Aargh.

Then, had more bleeding, so another trip to the doctor, who showed us a healthy baby, but an abnormal placenta. Grr. It's lying too low, apparently, which isn't a terrible thing at this stage, but can cause a few issues later.

I want to eat the world but my mouth is too sore! On the plus side, no more nausea!

MundayCakes85 · 14/03/2014 22:15

Really sad to hear more bad news. Loopy hope you're ok.

In other news I had a M&S bra fitting. I was 34B up to 34C and now apparently I'm 38B!! I bought it even though I can wear it over my bra, dress and jumper!! Think I might change it for 36C? I don't like shopping Sad

ExcitedCJ · 14/03/2014 22:46

Just been out for a works leaving do & just managed to stop myself from vomiting. Trying to find a reason for not drinking was the least of my concerns as my face went green & a sheen of perspiration starting building on my brow! Now home safe and sound in my farty/burpy safe zone of my delicious bed!
Me23 I will be 10+5 at next scan was going to book Harmony for the next day as I think this can be done from 10 weeks?
Ps. Thanks all you lovely people for the congrats. I told my Mum this evening and she said "oh..... (Really long pause) are you pleased? What are you going to do about work?" She eventually warmed to the notion but it took her a while!
It's funny to have more support from people I don't know.

ohthegoats · 14/03/2014 22:58

We were talking tonight about we like having the secret so much that we might not tell until we really have to. I'm quite podgy and have always worn the empire line dress and leggings combo... all the easier to fool people with.

pebble82 · 14/03/2014 23:02

I'm a bit clueless, how come lots of you are having harmony test? What is it and why?

ExcitedCJ · 14/03/2014 23:15

Pebble the link takes you to the clinic in London that sends the blood off for screening, tells you all about it -
www.tdlpathology.com/test-information/new-tests/patient-video-for-harmony-prenatal-test
I am 38 & crazy uptight so I'm getting tested to help me relax a little. I freaked out 2 weeks ago about Vit A in my moisturiser causing problems with my baby! I'm a uptight nutcase! Least I know it! :)

Kirstipops · 15/03/2014 00:54

I hadn't heard of the harmony test either Pebble before this thread, glad it wasn't just me! I've never been so aware of the possibility of mcs and mmcs in early pregnancy either :( As more time goes on I'm sure good news will be more common.

Carebear I wouldn't worry too much about feeling better and with the less tender boobs, that happened with me too but the spells of feeling icky and sore mamms returned before long. I also thought I was shaking the tiredness but i still end up feeling pretty sleepy in the afternoons unless I get to bed at like 9pm the previous night!

puppythedog · 15/03/2014 07:47

Gunwalloe
You never have to have anything done that you don't want to. You are in charge of your body and of the wee one growing inside you. It doesn't matter if somebody feels that they need their own scan for their records because they are not their records, they are your records.
You need to consent to have any investigation or treatment (unless you lack capacity or are being treated for mental health difficulties against your will but they don't apply here). If you do not want the scan tell them that you do not consent for it. If it is the case that you are happy to go along with it then do so but if you do not want the scan do not have it.

In some general medical environments people(staff) sometimes forget that it is not their body that you are wearing around the place and that you have ownership of it.
At no point should anyone do something just because they are told they have to, including ante-natal care. Of course some knowledgeable people/professionals might provide you with a good rational that makes you happy to change your mind and have the investigation or treatment but that rational hold never be 'we need our own copy'. No scans are obligatory.

Sorry for long post, informed consent in healthcare is a bit of a hobby horse of mine. In other news are anybodies DPs also unfathomably knackered? I'm sleeping for England Wales and Scotland and Northern Ireland and all of Europe at the moment, Mrsthedog is too but she's allowed to be tired, she's the one that is pregnant.

bumpbangbump · 15/03/2014 08:09

So sorry run and loopy.

And what good news excited.

As someone mentioned above I think the 12 scans will bring some much needed good news to the thread.

Sleep is my main issue at the moment. So tired but struggling to get a good nights sleep! Waking up feeling queasy makes it really hard to go back to sleep. I'm becoming a fan of a nap but with a toddlie it's a bit difficult to fit one in. Not to mention work doesn't provide a pregnant women's sleep grotto! The conditions I must suffer!!!

Have a great weekend all.

mrsb87 · 15/03/2014 08:26

puppy my dh is shattered bless him! He runs his own business which is currently changing from construction season to maintenance which is stressful enough. He then has to come home, clean the house and cook tea ( I'm still got good with cooking smells). I'm a bit worried that he's running himself into the ground.

I vommed last night and am now as a result back to the constant nausea and heart burn Sad oh well 5 vom free days is still a record for me!

Loulou888 · 15/03/2014 09:09

My DH is also tired I too had a couple of good days which was great but sadly have woken up today feeling tired and nauseaus Resulting n a run the bathroom :(. Suppose they say its a sign of a strong baby/pregnancy which is what I keep telling myself.

ohthegoats · 15/03/2014 09:27

I've felt much much less sick this last week (weeks 11 - 12). Still some small waves, usually after eating, and I've heaved after coughing a lot (I have a stinking cough), but SOOOOO much better. I've been to the gym every day too, which I think has helped with actually sleeping through the night. Still in bed (or wanting to go to bed), by 8.30 though most nights, and wide awake at 6am. Constipation has gone too, which I'm putting down to accidental too much sucking of sugar free Polos (to stop the coughing) - read the packet, and they are laxatives.

Obviously all this change in how I feel has me all paranoid... will be a basket case again by next Saturday's scan. Not to even consider the test results.

Bumpforme2014 · 15/03/2014 11:18

I was also clueless about harmony tests before mumsnet, this is my first and my hospital offer the downs test so I am just sticking with that. Annoyingly though I have to wait until after the scan to find out about downs results since they haven't taken the blood test yet so that will be more waiting even if the scan is okay I will worry about that!

mum2kiss · 15/03/2014 11:43

Pgp is the devil :(

Oh wait! Ive said that before!! Life truly is becoming miserable. I am currently laid on the sofa on my side...this is the only pain free position to be in!! I dont know what to do with myself. I feel tearful and fed up...its so depressing amd debilitating. I feel like I can't do anything...my poor dp doesnt know what to do with me so he's taken dd to the shops to give me a few minutes peace from her hyperactivity!

When will my physio referral come through?! The thought of having to wait weeks feeling like this is extremely depressing!

Happy Saturday people!

Kirstipops · 15/03/2014 11:45

Yep the same goes for me, Bump, just sticking with the tests my hospital will do. Can understand why mums are going for it though to set their minds at rest. Annoyingly enough I would probably have had my bloods back by now were it not for the fact my veins gave up the ghost at my booking in appointment at 10 weeks, an anaesthetist is taking my bloods after my scan a week on Monday, by which point I will be around 12+4.

Kirstipops · 15/03/2014 12:09

Oh that sounds hellish mum2kiss, would you be able to chase it up, or have your doc maybe request you be shunted up the list?

fatpony · 15/03/2014 14:13

Can any of you enlighten me about the 'nuchal fold' scan/test? Does it come after the 12 week scan, or at the same time? Is it optional? Just read on one thread that it has to be done by 14 weeks but we are going away for three weeks when I am 12+6 ( the day after my scan)... It's all a bit confusing - I wish the hospital explained things properly...

Also if anyone has had a pre-12 week scan done privately in London can you tell me which clinic you went to?
Thanks!

porcito · 15/03/2014 14:22

The nuchal translucency test is usually done at the same time as the 12 week scan. It's done between 11.5 weeks and 14.5 weeks I think, because after that baby's body starts draining the fluid there by itself, so the measurement reduces. Then they do a nuchal fold one at the 20 week scan, I think.

fatpony · 15/03/2014 14:27

Thanks porcito, so would the hospital inform you that it will be done or is it a given? My letter just says 'scan'...

ExcitedCJ · 15/03/2014 14:31

Disco nap time! :) :)
Toddled off to sleep & I have managed to put some washing on & tidy LO's room, so well deserved! Woo hoo!

porcito · 15/03/2014 14:33

As far as I know, from reading the NHS guidelines on it, they do it as part of the scan: it's just a measurement of the fluid at the back of the baby's neck, so is done as part of the usual baby measurements. I think in the UK they also do blood tests to combine with the nuchal translucency.

There's a link I found here: www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/screening-amniocentesis-downs-syndrome.aspx

I'm freaking out because here they don't do the blood tests unless you're high risk, and my baby seems to have a really big nuchal translucency. I need to learn to calm down!
