Pinkandwhite · 05/03/2014 02:38

Please can someone add my age etc to the list? I'm using my phone.

I'm 31, expecting dc1 ad I know the baby is a girl.

In terms of heartbeats, my baby's heartbeat has been between 150 and 158 bpm ever since my first scan at 8 weeks. I'm naughty and listen to her every couple of days using my Doppler and its always at that rate. The friend who I'm borrowing the Doppler from had her baby boy 3 weeks ago. His heartbeat was also always in the 150s apparently. I'm therefore not sure it's much of an indicator of gender unfortunately!

Pinkandwhite · 05/03/2014 02:42

How much exercise is everyone doing now?

I was quite fit before getting pregnant but I was then too nervous to do anything other than walking for the first 14 weeks (totally ridiculous I know). I went to my first prenatal yoga class today (Tuesday - I'm in the states so 5 hours behind UK) and really enjoyed it.

lostlalaloopsy · 05/03/2014 06:46

Hi everyone

Is it ok if I join? I am officially due on 2nd September, but will be having planned section which should be at the end of August. This is my 3rd child, but definitely the worst pregnancy so far! I've felt so ill, I was lucky to never have morning sickness with my first 2.

jessplussomeonenew · 05/03/2014 07:54

Hi pinkandwhite and welcome. Having spent most of the first trimester on the sofa it's been great to get active again - doing plenty of walking, some gardening (with gloves) and a few short sessions of tennis (which I did before getting pregnant). It feels great to be active again, especially when the weather is good! I'm thinking of trying pregnancy yoga or pilates when I get bigger though.

Owlysims · 05/03/2014 08:04

Hi pink and white, I am doing one gym class (legs bums and tums), one gym session, and two long (ish) dog walks at least a week. Plus running around after a three year old!! I was very active pre bump so had to cut it down a bit as was getting tired, swapped two gym sessions for long dog walks BUT I did continue during first trimester, I wouldn't suddenly start back up an old regime now Smile

A flurry of activity yesterday! Finding time in here is hard with new job!

I guess we're all excited about heartbeats and scans?!

Good news Jess - now you can tell the world!

And welcome newbies - plenty if room for everyone!!

Secretlypregnant · 05/03/2014 08:57

Hi lostlalaloopsy, welcome Smile. I didn't have morning sickness with my first either, so it was a bit of a revelation this time around to feel so nauseous! Thankfully past that stage now, apart from the delightful gagging when brushing teeth.

Is anyone else still gagging from time to time, even though not feeling sick any more? DH found a hard stringy bit of spinach in his lasagne the other night and pulled it out of his mouth, and I so nearly vomited all over my plate. He thought I was choking and leapt to his feet with a cry of alarm. DD just stared at us both in mild amusement. Dinner and a show . . .

flusteredmumto2 · 05/03/2014 09:37

Flymo I'm 16 weeks but due to weight loss, severe thirst and several hypos they wanted me to do it as soon as possible. With my first dc I had gd and was insulin dependent for 10 weeks though I managed to avoid it completely with my 2nd though I doubt I have with this one.
I have another booked for 26 weeks if this one is clear.
I really want to find out the sex but dp doesn't, he can't be at the scan but I doubt I can keep it secret if I did find out.
I gave up the gym when I started studying fulltime and I'm in awe how you guys are still doing it. As dp works away and I only see him every fortnight I'm constantly running around after 2dcs and once they're in bed I hardly have enough energy to try and study.

eurochick · 05/03/2014 10:29

secretly I'm still gagging when I brush my teeth. I'm ok with food now though. It's only been in the last few days that things have got better (I'm 15 weeks tomorrow).

pinkandwhite I went to the gym this week for the first time since December. I was a regular attendee before! But I had IVF and the egg collection left me rather bruised this time, so I gave myself some time off for that, and then it was Christmas and I had 2 weeks off work (my gym is by the office and I wasn't going there if I didn't have to). On my second day back at work after Xmas, just as I was about to start back, I started bleeding and that continued for 3 weeks, so I had to take it easy. And since that stopped, I have had 2 lots of work travel and been absolutely shattered. This week is the first time I have felt up to it. I usually like pushing myself, so it feels a bit pointless to do a "moderate" workout, but I guess it is better than nothing. And centime had a BIG stretching session afterwards, so I guess it felt the blood pumping! (Or maybe it was just objecting to being squashed into my now far too tight gym trousers!)

DreamPhone · 05/03/2014 11:07

Morning ladies!

It's been a while since I've popped in - I've missed this thread! I've been having a little read and a catch up. I hope everyone's feeling better on the exhaustion / sickness front?

My bump is just crossing the threshold from food baby into actual baby territory and I'm feeling lots of funny stretching feelings - like someone is pulling my ligaments from within like an elastic band!

memedragon · 05/03/2014 11:20

I really don't know what to do about exercise. Before I was pregnant I was fit-ish, but not exactly a gym bunny. I jogged a few miles a couple of times a week (very slowly) and did maybe 45 minutes at the gym once or twice a week too - ll pretty gentle stuff though. But throughout my first trimester I was so tired and could barely eat anything - didn't have actual sickness but was nauseous a lot and everything seemed to make me bloated and give me indigestion. I didn't do any exercise for months. I'm trying to get back into it but I don't really know how much I should be doing. I work at home most days so I don't even get any walking to work/the bus stop exercise! They say you should listen to your body, but my body never really wants to exercise, surely you have to push yourself to do it a little bit?

DreamPhone · 05/03/2014 11:30

I joined the swimming pool round the corner from my work about four weeks ago and I go about three times a week on my lunchbreak - it's lovely having a bit of time to myself in the middle of my working day (feels exactly like bunking off school!). Also nice and gentle exercise as you can swim as quickly or slowly as you like - I don't put any pressure on myself to do a set number of lengths or anything, I reckon that just going and doing it is an achievement in itself (for someone as exercise shy as me at least!). I also have two 30 min walks from the office to the train station each day so I reckon that's job done?

I couldn't have imagined doing any exercise during the first trimester! Even cooking dinner was beyond me most days - quite glad that's over...

DuPainDuVinDuFromage · 05/03/2014 11:43

I'm still gagging every so often, usually when I'm hungry. It's definitely much better than it was though! I think it was Ruggle who was being really sick all the time - hope she's feeling better at last!

I'm impressed with all the exercise going on! I never do any at all except chasing after a toddler, whether pregnant or not, so I'm really unfit! Maybe after August I'll start doing a bit more...

flymo79 · 05/03/2014 11:49

me too memedragon! I used to do a similar amount - jogging mostly - and since the first tri wiped me out I've done nothing. I feel pooped just walking three flights of stairs at work and it's making me feel very unfit. I'm mostly worried about being unfit and in labour as apparently that can make it so much harder. Never imagined myself being such a slob!!

memedragon · 05/03/2014 11:59

Before I was pregnant (actually I was 4 weeks at the time but didn't know!) my mum and I did a really hilly 9 mile walk, and it was fine - sore feet but otherwise fine. Last weekend I went walking with my husband and was completely knackered after about a mile and a half. And most of it was downhill! I went to an aquanatal class last week which was nice, but it take about half an hour to drive there and there isn't a closer one. Not sure I can be bothered or indeed have the time.

jessplussomeonenew · 05/03/2014 12:01

Dragon, I think it's ok to push yourself a bit but less than before, going by how it feels rather than external measures such as distance. I have basically gone down to no more than 80% of my previous max effort, and I also take more breaks and keep well hydrated, warm up/cool down more carefully and make sure I never get too out of breath to have a conversation. I'm no expert but this seems to work for me so far.

Oh, and mummyto2, this is my first pregnancy which makes it all so much easier I'm sure!

crazylady2013 · 05/03/2014 13:21

Hi to all the new faces Grin .
Before getting pregnant I had 8 hrs of roller derby training a week but as soon as I found out I was pregnant I stopped. I tried going to the gym instead but find it really boring. Trying to swim instead but struggle to fit it in with everthing else. So I guess I will just be a slob until after baby arrives.

memedragon · 05/03/2014 14:16

80% sounds like a good rule, maybe I'll give that a go. I really like running/jogging, but I am kind of reluctant to try and get back into it, maybe I should just stick gentle things like swimming or the cross trainer on a low setting. I do find swimming a bit dull though as I like listening to music while I exercise. Anybody else jogging while pregnant?

crazy - roller derby sounds awesome, never tried it myself but I can see how the gym would be boring by comparison!

Para28 · 05/03/2014 14:22

Hi all, I'm due on August 20th with my first. I'm finally starting to get more excited about it. I'm not doing much exercise at all - find I'm too tired after work, so it's really only walks during the weekend. I went to a pregnancy yoga class too; this was good, although I yawned all the way through! I'm getting really bad heartburn and reflux, and gagging, which doc thinks is related to the reflux. I've been prescribed omeprazole - is anybody else taking this? Congratulations everyone.

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie · 05/03/2014 14:32

I've had to stop playing both hockey and netball so I'm feeling a bit unfit at the moment! I felt too rough over Christmas to even think about doing anything and pregnancy has also made my asthma worse too Angry I ordered a pregnancy pilates dvd the other day though so I'm going to give that a go when it arrives Smile

Pinkandwhite · 05/03/2014 14:52

It's v interesting to hear what everyone else is doing about exercise. It's nice to know it isn't just me who went from fit-ish to doing nothing because of nausea and exhaustion. It is a bit difficult to know how much to do now. I'm expecting my first baby and I can imagine that next time round I won't have the luxury of time to worry about this!

I think I'm going to stick to walking, yoga and swimming. I'm not bothered about being really fit (as if!), I just don't want to be completely unfit if I can help it because I've also heard this helps in labour...

Hi,

Can I join please? I'm expecting dc1 on 1st August and I'm 28. Could I also join the fb group?? Does anyone else feel like it isn't real still?

flymo79 · 05/03/2014 15:58

Hi para and loopy!
team yellow is when you don't want to know/tell whether you're having a boy (typically blue) or a girl (typically pink).
I think I will be 'team primary colours', not because I don't want to know but because I generally prefer brights to pastels and (whatever flavour I have) will most likely be clad in bright greens, yellows and reds!
