Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My Dad has just had a massive DVT and has been told it is more important to wear the stockings in the day when you are up on your feet - they help to pump the blood to the upper body and keep things moving.

I had a lovely 27 hours or so away from home. We did really well - won Adult Choir of the Day so have been put through for selection to the next round. We have to wait and see now whether we get through or not.

mssleepyhead · 28/04/2014 21:35

Meme - I just got one of those balls too as my back is starting to hurt when I sit down. I think I need to get used to it though; after about 10 minutes at it to watch TV it also hurts sitting on that. I'm finding it good for working at a table or eating though.

Emotional state continued here last night when my little one didn't go through his usual night time acrobatics. Convinced myself something was horribly wrong and hardly slept a wink. Of course, today he's been all over the place, but I found it so hard to shake off my anxiety. Damn hormones!

DisneyDiva87 · 29/04/2014 10:00

Congrats Dor

Hope your dad is doing ok Hewho.

I haven't noticed myself much more emotional (just coming up to 23 weeks) but I did sob my heart out at OBEM the other night while watching the episode from 2 weeks ago.

I keep meaning to hunt out our exercise ball to sit on at home, it's supposed to help strengthen your core but I don't know if it actually works. Can't do any harm though, just don't sit on it constantly as it isn't good for posture.

eurochick · 29/04/2014 10:53

I thought they were good for posture? I know some people who sit on them at work as the result of physio recommendations due to back problems?

Mine needs reinflating. I need to find the pump!

DisneyDiva87 · 29/04/2014 11:04

I thought they weren't good cause they have no support, but they are good because they stop you from sitting too still and keep more muscles moving which prevents them from stiffening and helps to strengthen them.

But then, I'm not a physio

DisneyDiva87 · 29/04/2014 11:19

I've had a quick google and it seems balls are good for short periods of time so long as you maintain good posture and shift your weight a bit while keeping good posture to make your muscles work. Simply sitting on the ball won't help and can make back problems worse if you are sitting at a desk all day on one.

Sit like this:
Put your feet flat on the floor.
Sit as tall as you can.
Straighten your back.
Puff out your chest.
Pull in your chin slightly.
Push your shoulders down.
Move your shoulder blades closer together.

PinaColadas · 29/04/2014 12:42

I'm finding it hard to keep comfortable sat at a desk all day, I will have to try that Disney.

Birthing balls... I need to buy one, is there anything specific I'm looking for or will just a yoga ball do?

PinaColadas · 29/04/2014 13:06

Scrap that post, I've just done some googling and found this really useful article.

Going to just get an excercise ball from Argos!!

ilovemonstersInc · 29/04/2014 13:28

I was told it was more important to wear them at night when we are less active in sleep to keep blood pumpinground?
Ive had them on all day apart from the odd break here and there like now im getting cleaned ive got em off for an hour or so but will pop em back on once ive finished. They are horrible tl wear but less horrible ththan a clot!

topmammy · 29/04/2014 19:47

Ooh that's something I haven't even thought about - an exercise ball. I wonder if they have them at hospital or you need to bring your own.

Does anyone else get kicks really low down? I keep feeling kicks well below my knicker line, if that makes sense. Just tickles at the mo and feels a bit like light tap dancing on my bladder lol.

Well I'm fed up of work already, but got a while to go yet! Hope everyone is feeling ok :)

weeza13 · 29/04/2014 20:36

Topmammy, I get a lot of kicking quite low down as well as the sides of my belly, because its not uncomfortable(yet) it was making me think that I will miss that sensation when baby is here. No work today as got really sore throat and everything aches including my eyeballs. Hope to feel better tommorow but will def give yoga ball a try to see if it help back and hips that are particularly sore.

eurochick · 29/04/2014 20:47

topmummy that is where all my movement has been for the past couple of days. It was higher up before.

memedragon · 29/04/2014 23:01

Apparently there is a woman at my husband's work who sits on an exercise ball all day at her desk to help with posture. I've been sitting on it for a few hours a day, just sort of bouncing and rolling a bit. I got mine at Argos, it was only a tenner. I think they do tend to have them at hospitals so you probably don't need to bring your own, but you could always check.

topmammy I get kicks low down sometimes. I also sometimes get them very high up. But not really in the middle. I assume it's the anterior placenta getting in the way. I also think I have been experiencing the infamous bladder kicking. Baby seems to have no pattern as yet, some days I feel strong, almost painful movement all the time, other days it's a lot more sparse and feels more... muffled? Not the right word but I can't think of another. I guess it's down to the baby changing position every few days. I do get a bit nervous on the quiet days, I always feel better once I've felt a few movements though.

weeza13 · 30/04/2014 08:19

Baby seems to have a fixed routine of kicking between 5 and 6 am, then about 10 ish, about 2 after lunch and then lots of wriggling and kicking when I can sit down in the evening. Most movement occurs around cup of tea time or food so this seems to be setting a precident for when he is here and like his dad is constantly grazing or saying he is hungry. Cannot believe I am 28 weeks today !!

ilovemonstersInc · 30/04/2014 08:46

Wow 28weeks! Are you feeling better?

DisneyDiva87 · 30/04/2014 09:21

My baby is right down on my bladder. I got 5 mins from work yesterday when walking home and suddenly thought "I'm not going to make it" I was trying to think of places where I could privately relieve myself on the route if I needed to. I get about 2 minutes from the house and suddenly the urge to pee disappears. I wish the baby would leave my bladder alone.

We had loads of movement yesterday, all day nearly was quite nauseating. Was great for hubby though as he got to feel some proper tosses and turns. No doubt I'll soon be cursing the baby for moving so much but I'm loving it just now. Not noticed any pattern yet.

Hope everyone is doing well Smile

PinaColadas · 30/04/2014 09:44

Disney, I'm like that, I'm gagging to go and when I do go there is barely a trickle! It's baby playing tricks on me.

I will have to ask our hospital about birthing balls, I assume they just have them there, they should shouldn't they surely?!

My main kicks are always about 9-12pm and after I've eaten! (was very active last night, belly was waving and jumping around like mad, amazing!)

DuPainDuVinDuFromage · 30/04/2014 09:55

Hi all, haven't posted for ages but have been lurking! I'm feeling really rubbish at the moment, just suddenly went from second trimester glow to absolutely exhausted with a constant headache Sad I was off sick yesterday but think this is just how pregnancy feels when you have a toddler to deal with so I'd better just get on with it!

I have 29 working days in the office before mat leave (including today), plus one day a week working at home, which is less of an effort so I'm not counting the home days in my overall countdown. Feels like not long but it's still more than two months! At least it's a bank holiday weekend coming up - should be a nice break! Anyone got anything nice planned?

PinaColadas · 30/04/2014 10:31

Aw I'm sorry you've been feeling under the weather, hopefully a nice relaxing bank holiday will recharge your batteries. Not long til you leave work either thats great. I'd thought about asking for a few WFH days, not sure how it would go down though! 36 working days left for me EEK!

We are finishing the nursery this weekend, and I intend to sleep through the rest of it ;)

ilovemonstersInc · 30/04/2014 10:42

I hate bank holiday weekends as 9/10 one of us is ill. And getting to the right person is more of a pain than usual as they are off!
The stockings are really hurting my legs so they are off. Im on 10000iu of heprin so hopefully thats ok.
How is everyone doing?
I keep getting bh that are taking my breath away.

eurochick · 30/04/2014 10:57

Morning ladies!

I'm still suffering the effects of jetlag so feeling rather woolly-headed again this morning.

I also had a bizarre experience this morning - my breakfast came up as soon as it went down. I had only a few seconds warning. Very odd. I am not a pukey person (probably twice in the last 10 years - norovirus and seasickness). Even when I had awful nausea earlier on I never actually threw up. Anyone had similar?

I get most movement in the evening and at around 5am when I get up for a pee. Drinking something cold also triggers it.

HungryHorace · 01/05/2014 08:12

Morning! How is everyone today? I hope people are feeling better now, or at the very least improving.

I'm 26 weeks today, which is good. I can't believe how fast it's going. I think working full time and having a very active 10 month old help that though!

I ended up being monitored in hospital yesterday after a reduction in movements. Thankfully everything is fine...had to play chase the baby with the monitor pads as they wouldn't stay still!

I'm seeing the midwife on Monday as the bank holiday and a full clinic means that I've not had my 24 week appt yet (though it's unusual to have this one for your second baby, so I suppose some trusts don't view it as important). It'll be nice to hear baby's heart again though, even though I heard it for well over an hour yesterday!

Only 5 weeks left at work now too. Yay!

DisneyDiva87 · 01/05/2014 08:30

MY baby seems to move all the time! It's moving right now as lovely as it is it does get rather distracting, feels like a constant tickle.

That's exactly like me Pina bursting to go and then nothing comes out. Maybe the baby was in the process of kicking your stomach when you ate Euro? My cousin had that later on in her pregnancy, she used to puke up while still eating.

ilovemonstersInc · 01/05/2014 08:36

Glad baby was just playing hide and seek. Its horrible when they go shhhh. When I started the injections he went rather quite but thankfully picking up a bit now.

Been getting a lot of bh lately anyone else?

They seem to take my breath away and can feel them on the outside!

DisneyDiva87 · 01/05/2014 10:36

I've had a couple of period cramp like feelings, is that braxton hicks? I'm just noticing something like that now, but it could also be baby poking at something
