Bah. I am in the States, where I can buy the pushchair I want for about £200, instead of nearly £400 in the UK. Cannot for the life of me get a clear answer out of BA regarding an extra piece of luggage that might be outsized, so DH doesn't want to risk it. I'd risk it but I'd never live it down if I'm wrong.

Osinachi after 28 weeks your annual insurance might not cover you without additional fees. I wasn't sure about getting a fit to fly drs note for the return trip - suspected $$$. And I've heard that the Border Patrol can get a bit miffed if they think you're too far along and might risk having the baby in the US, making it a US citizen...however I went through fine and have no first hand experience of this. Unless you are American, of course.

NancyinCali · 28/03/2014 19:57

ismarah if you were travelling with a baby it would be free for the pushchair but I have no idea otherwise! The other thing is you might get charged import duty on it too when you get back to the UK.

ismarah · 28/03/2014 20:05

Nancy We looked at the import duty and the allowance is £390 which should make this OK, we'd have a receipt showing the US value & sales tax paid. Wonder if we xan borrow a baby for trans-Atlantic travel

Think I shall try to persuade DH. Have been googling box sizes and think it might sneak in under size...golf bags, skiing equipment etc are all OK after all...

coco808 · 28/03/2014 20:20

goodluck ismarah hope you manage to get a bargain Smile

plate that sounds amazing!!! I'm going on my last luxury hotel 4 day break in Greece over Easter.

nancy so jealous Grin

osinachi · 28/03/2014 21:18

Nancy Am in NYC in May. Am not showing a lot so hope AM not denied entry. I know a few people who have travelled about same time without problems. I definitely don't want to have my baby there and tried to move trip forward but the fees were ridiculous! So decided to leave it for May. Thanks for the tips.Don't know baby's sex so will be looking for general stuff.

osinachi · 28/03/2014 21:22

ismara Am not American . Will get the doctor's note hope no ££ involved but won't show it unless asked. Will check insurance again.

Plateofcrumbs · 29/03/2014 03:57

Got a bit of pelvic pain for the first time - I blame over-doing the walking around on holiday (we walked about 5 miles one day and my legs were ready to drop off). Hoping it won't get worse, but I think I'll give up my aspirations for doing any more running this pregnancy. I think I need to start more regular swimming to get some exercise.

icklekid · 29/03/2014 06:26

So much talk of usa makes me want to jet off somewhere lovely...just 1 more week until easter and although not going anywhere will be lovely just to relax!

Came down to visit my parents last night and they offered to buy pushchair which is lovely then said have you choosen an expensive one...I said no because having seen the cost of some the one we want is reasonably cheap however now worrying they will not agree! Hoping if they do think that we can just get them to contribute and not feel that they have to pay for it!

Been awake over an hour and got a busy day- could really do with the sleep! (Wrote at 4am- couldn't post!!!)

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 29/03/2014 07:19

Argh!!! I just wrote a massive post and it got lost!

Brief highlights were, plate I'm jealous of your holiday with lie-ins and restaurants. Having a DC needn't be and end to restaurants and fancy hotels but long lazy lie ins will become a distant memory!

Ismarah if you need to pay for an extra piece of baggage for the pushchair prebook it online with BA. That is cheaper than paying at the airport.

With all this talk of going to the US it looks like I will be going in a week or two. But this will be for work so I might need to schedule in some shopping time.

I arrived in the UK yesterday. Busy travel week for me because I also had a business trip. I will do 6 flights in one week! We have brought our largest suitcase empty! I've got to accompany DH clothes shopping (not great for me) and then we are going to have lunch out. If DH wants to carry on shopping after lunch he can do it on his own and i will relieve my mum from looking after DS.

Tomorrow is THE supermarket shop. I can just imagine the MN thread the stuff in my trolley would inspire:
Half a tonne of mini eggs, other chocolate, biscuits, sausages and tea.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

jbiscuits · 29/03/2014 08:35

All this talk about going abroad makes me wish I was going somewhere more exciting than Norfolk next weekend. hopefully it won't rain too much. Oh well, I shall try to consider it money saved towards baby!

AuntieMaggie · 29/03/2014 08:41

Argh have been awake most of the night because of discomfort under my ribs on one side... seems to ok now though (typical)

We've been offered a buggy but I think its a bit big for what we want but I'm still torn because its a bit of a bargain... its a joolz... anyone have any knowledge of these?

Very jealous of all the america/holiday talk here. I'm off to Ghent next week for a few days but its centred around cycling so I'm not overly excited...

I'm in a bit of a weird place mentally at the moment and feeling quite lonely. I usually see friends at least every other weekend but as I'm not drinking thats not happening so I rarely see anyone. I spend most of the weekend alone as DP is cycling. I've got loads going on at work because we have big changes happening and I need to make some decisions about that (and I haven't made any yet despite certain managers congratulating me on moves before I've agreed to them!) I'm starting to think that the stuff that needs doing in the house isn't going to get done. I'm trying to concentrate on the excitement of having this baby but at times I worry that I'm going to end up isolated when I'm on maternity. I tried to talk to DP about it but he just says his training finishes next week like everything will be magically ok then. I just don't know what to do with myself really.

mummytobejuly2014 · 29/03/2014 09:16

lots of lovely trips planned. wish we were going somewhere nice. today we are for a family related event where everyone will be drinking all day & evening then prob a house party. sucks & feels like forever being sober during these kind of days. woke myself up half hour ago sneezing as per usual only this time accompanied by nose bleed & lovely new white bed clothes have nice blood mark on them, any tips to get the blood patches off please? hope everyone has a nice wknd planned & this time next year it will be our first mothers day :)

Plateofcrumbs · 29/03/2014 09:18

AuntieMaggie - I'm guessing your DH is doing the Tour of Flanders then? Mine too! (although I'm not going on the trip, am leaving the men to it!)

Between you me and Incapinka we've got a right bunch of cycling/triathlon widows here!

Sorry you're worried about feeling isolated. Have you met any local mums-to-be yet? I'm trying to get chatting to some of the women at pregnancy yoga but I'm really not a natural at instantly palling up with people so feeling quite anxious about establishing a local network.

oo00PIXIE00oo · 29/03/2014 14:47

mummy soak the sheets in cold water first that normally works :)

fifi669 · 29/03/2014 17:37

Went food shopping today. DP asked if he needed him to go, I said not if he was ok bringing the shopping in.... Good job he came I was in so much pain! Hips hurt, back hurt, DS running around..... 15 weeks to go!

talulahbelle · 29/03/2014 17:40

AuntieMaggie I can empathise with you about feeling lonely - I'm so tired I'm not getting out much and my current friendships are imploding (long dull thread on Relationships if anyone wants a read) I'm very worried about being isolated on mat leave as I get a bit down without people to talk to, and DH although lovely, has a job with long hours.

I'm concentrating on making polite small talk at my regular antenatal pilates and aqua aerobics classes, and hopefully a friendship will develop. I'm not even at the stage of suggesting a coffee after class yet though :/

ismarah · 29/03/2014 21:35

I think we all worry about making and keeping friends. Isolation is no picnic. I'm not really sure what I will do to combat it myself, I don't really like the sound of some of the baby groups. I might join a normal yoga class though.

Lessening the isolation is one of the things I love about this forum, actually. Having someone to talk to, especially someone in the same boat, has been really nice. So thank you ladies x

icklekid · 29/03/2014 22:17

mummy vanish every time! Also with family who are drinking...coke is not the same as wine!

fifi been in exactly the same situation in supermarkets...

coco808 · 29/03/2014 22:43

AuntieMaggie I am fairly new to the area and don't have many friends. But I make frequent trips to Bristol Grin. We can always meet for coffee/shopping/play area if you fancied.

ismarah · 30/03/2014 05:19

Wahey. Cold is now a sinus infection. Phlegm made me throw up dinner. I have chills and hot flushes, indicating a fever and it's Saturday night - THE worst time to be sick / miserable and need medical advice. Bean is kicking (downwards again) so at least she seens OK but I am flippin miserable!

Just want to get through tonight and then if needed tomorrow I can go to urgent care. Did I mention I was miserable?

Howly · 30/03/2014 17:05

auntiemaggie I'm ordering a joolz day studio Gris and I loved it when I saw it in the shop! Really didn't like all other prams and was starting to lose the will but saw the joolz and fell in love! Both my DH and I are over 6ft though and the size suits us and our possibly large child!

osinachi · 30/03/2014 17:07

Happy mother's Sunday to all mums and mums to be. Have a great day!!!

ZingSweetCoconut · 30/03/2014 17:24

Happy Mother's Day!Smile Thanks

ismarah · 30/03/2014 18:07

Happy mothers day, mothers.

I survived the night, as did bean and DH. Now armed with safe drugs for bean and me and am hoping they will kock in rightaboutnow.

Had an odd one though. Bought a thermometer as I wanted to make sure I didn't have a sustained high temperature so as not to risk bean. Except my temperature when measured was 97.7 F or 36.5C - which is lower than the normal range and I seem to recall that it's low for me. I think normal for me is around 37.2-4 or so. Confused now. wish it was by the drugs but it's not.

icklekid · 30/03/2014 18:14

ismarah glad you've got some drugs and hope they help bit worrying about temperature might be worth a call to midwife/111 if still not right tomorrow?

Happy mothers day all!

We were spoiled this weekend went to visit my parents excited to show them what we've done in nursery and what we've bought etc then got excited because mamas and papas had 10% off so wanted to buy our pushchair- they ended up treating us so feeling very lucky!
