Hi all! Am back from our holiday in Cornwall safe and sound. It has taken me over half hour to catch up on all the gossip! I couldn't read the birth stories which are floating around though because this time round I am petrified of giving birth!!!!! I wish that I was rich so I could afford a lovley private room with it's own bathroom....had a long drawn out birth but remember more clearly the unsetteling feeling of being on a ward with a drug addict, non english speaking lady with about 10 visitors constantly in and out and a women calling me a 'midwifes pet' believe it or not!!!!! and on top of that the bathroom was disgusting. Keeping fingers crossed that this time round is better.

Holiday was quite relaxing, dh and I got on really well...but back for 5mins and his work/stress head has switched back on, so back to biting my head off! Hey ho, it was good while it lasted!

The photo shoot sounds really cool! I envy you girls having the confidence to do it. It's not just the stripping off, it's the going there with a bunch of strangers to! I am quite a shy person unless I am drunk!! I can't wait to see the results, keep us informed.

Got another week to wait yet till my scan....am secretly hoping for a boy but am concerned now that there seems to be loads of blue announcements already!?!! But will let you know asap the results...I then have my first consultant app a week after that and am a little concerned because my feet have started to swell a little already (shoes tight!) hope pre-eclampsia isn't going to rear it's ugly head again...

Baby names I have my heart set on are...
Freddie for a boy and Francesca (to be Frankie) for a girl, but dh will not confirm like or dislikes untill we have the sex sorted, thinks it will be a waste of time otherwise. Already have a Rosie.

Also, forgot to say WELCOME ALL NEWBIIES!!! Join the madhouse!

Lol lol if I did the photo shoot I would be the double spread in the middle im huge girls you need to put my mind at rest I keep going into shops picking up pink pretty dresses and putting them down again im so worried they have got it wrong ......

Jess glad you had a nice time my dh is the same with work he is a manager and I get the brunt of his bad moods at times but its his 30th next weekend we are going to york races for the day and then we have got 2 nights booked in leeds at a hotel so that will make a nice change as mil is having ds for us .

magnolia1 · 03/09/2006 12:30

I have 4 girls anf the scan was never wrong

But like you this time I am a bit worried it's wrong. I have a ton of blue stuff just given to me and all I can think is if the baby turns out to be a girl she will be terribly blue

Sredni · 03/09/2006 13:05

Happy2 I'm not surprised that you're nervous about labour after all that - at least they say that the second one is always easier and quicker.

My midwife is all aromatherapy and reiki, and I'm all epidural, so we'll see how that works out. I quite fancy the labouring in water thing, but what I don't get is why you can't just sit in a bath for the early bit?

el123456 · 03/09/2006 20:39

hello all!wish i wasn't a newbie, really am struggling with who is who!i have taken your tip lth, reading whole thread each time, now getting "what ARE you doing comments from dh"
hope i'm not only one with mardy dh.(you will know mardy laughalot if no one else does your really near me then!)

2Happy · 03/09/2006 21:30

I know what mardy means - though at the moment I think it applies more to me than dh...

Hattie2 · 03/09/2006 22:18

Hi el - I think 'mardy' is a permanent condition with my dh! It'd not a word I hear much nowadays but brings back school memories for me (moved south many years ago!!).

LadyTophamHatt · 04/09/2006 08:38

Due in Jan too but Is she mad?

She must be....it says as much if you read the last sentence!!

someone give this woman a doughnut or 12

lulu25 · 04/09/2006 09:57

Show off!

theUrbanDryad · 04/09/2006 11:03

totally unecessary if you ask me!

magnolia i haven't heard from the journalist people, wondering if they are just blowing me off! if i do get to do it, i am gonna get airbrushed.....i mean, i know i look great normally, i want to see how totally awesome i could look if i have the same treatment as the caprices and kate moss of this world!!

congratulations to those who had scans, boys rock! we've been buying a few bits and bobs here and there, bought a loads of new furniture from the british heart foundation shop....get this: two sofas, an armchair, a TV unit, and a chest of drawers....£270! bargain or what?

i didn't realise it hurt that much with the afterbirth, or that there was a risk of haemorrhage. they don't put that in the books do they?! hmm.....not so sure about home birth now. don't want to have to be rushed into hospital with a haemorrhage and a new born baby! i thought the placenta just came out! i thought it'd be easy after giving birth to a tiny person! i was naive, wasn't i?

yay to eBay for maternity clothes! my mum's made most of mine, but i ordered a pretty dress cause it is a good friend's wedding this weekend and i wanted something nice to wear, but the stupid bitch hasn't sent it! grr....i'm gonna leave negative feedback, you see if i don't! ha! that'll learn 'em!

as for mardy husbands/partners....mine's great fun over the weekend, except we did a lot of walking on saturday (still trying to get him to shift his extra baggage!) and he whinged all sunday about how much his hips were hurting! i tried to explain that if he wasn't overweight they wouldn't hurt so much, but i didn't get very far. he just pointed out all my stretch marks and flabby bits, and i went off in a strop. remind me why i'm marrying this guy again?

aaaaaanyway, i've rambled on for far too long again haven't i? hope you're all good, take care.......xxx

JaneNZ · 04/09/2006 11:13

Just posted on the first thread which was a bit of a dumb thing to do - it's great being able to blame every stupid thing I do (which is quite a lot) on being pregnant. DH getting a bit suspicious though. Baby due on 01/01/07 - happy new year to me!
Am a first-timer and am a bit nervous about the whole thing but keep telling myself I can do this - even when sister-with-three tells me with sleep-deprived eyes about forceps and mind-numbing pain and tears (of all kinds). Very kind of her.
Anyone else feel like they their stomach is going to split in half at the moment? Somedays it is fine, but others it feels like ds is pushing me from the inside. Also have days of lots of movement and then days of not much at all, am presuming this is normal. Anyway loving this thread - at least I don't feel so alone!

laughalot · 04/09/2006 11:26

Jane it all sounds perfectly normal to me and yes there are days where there is alot of movements and then other days when baby is quiet as a mouse..... Pity they dont have alot of those quiet days when they are born .

Urban you did bag some bargins hunny and good luck with the photos

El yes I know what mardy is I live with one

theUrbanDryad · 04/09/2006 12:18

welcome jane! wow, another DS! what a lot of boys we have.....my bump gets very active when i drink coffee...sometimes i have a cup just so i can make him bounce! then i have to remind myself that the baby does not exist purely for my amusement...

i'm just gonna wing it with the birth. think i'll try and chill and see how it goes. another mumsnetter (on a different thread) recommends water with rescue remedy. i know that RR works cause we used to give it to the cats when there was a thunderstorm, but i've never used it on myself. hmm....we shall see. i'm sure i'll be screaming for an epidural by the second contraction!

el123456 · 04/09/2006 12:35

oh no urbandryad!dont let it put you of home birth.if you have the injection it is there to stop you haemorrhaging and if it doesnt make you sick you have no reason not to have it so will be fine!feel bad now as only gave you half info.im sure your midewife will fill you in and reasure you!the problem is i read to much or so mdh(as i will call him from now on!)says.
hello janenz, nice to see another newbie!

ELM · 04/09/2006 13:21

Hi Ladies,

Congratulations to everyone whose had scans since I last posted...and to all the newbies,I haven't had a chance to read through them all yet.
My scan is tomorrow, and I'm really worried about it. I haven't felt the baby move in ages and am praying that nothing is wrong. I hope I'm just being paranoid...I'm not even excited about trying to find out the sex..that's how neurotic I am!!

lulu25 · 04/09/2006 13:27

just come back from scan...another boy for the thread!

Urban, I have had a couple of problems with eBay in the last couple of weeks but it seems to be Royal Mail having issues rather than the people sending me stuff (just thought I would mention it before you get into a messy negative feedback war). Still waiting for bargain Earl jeans...

Sredni · 04/09/2006 13:31

Have a good scan - I'm sure it will be fine. It's my theory that babies purposefully calm down before the scan just to stress you out. Do you have a gender preference? We thought we didn't, but then when we found out it was a boy we were both a bit sad. Now I'm really excited about it though.

Has anyone being having major indigestion? I just bought my first ever Gaviscon - blinding - I think I'll be mainlining this for a while. It tastes minging though.

ELM · 04/09/2006 13:43

Sredni: Really want a girl but DP REALLY wants a boy.. so one of us will be happy! I know I just need to relax..otherwise I will be guzzling Gaviscon too! (I am currently carrying a bottle in my handbag) They also do tablets in a peppermint flavour which are a bit more palatable....

Lulu: congrats on a boy!

lulu25 · 04/09/2006 13:58

Sorry ELM I didn't read your update before I posted. I am sure everything is fine. Mine has a burst of activity every couple of days and then settles down - didn't even react to being poked and prodded by sonographer this morning, and was all OK.

Hattie2 · 04/09/2006 14:57

Mine certainly calmed down for the scan - he's yawning in two of the pictures!

Hi janenz - I wish I'd found mn when I was a first timer, you'll get all the advice you could ever want (and plenty that you don't probably )

2Happy · 04/09/2006 15:23

Hi all, welcome Janenz
Congrats on the scan lulu, and good luck for yours tomorrow ELM.
Crap day at work today with two people off sick, guess it's getting to that time of year again. Trying to think back to when we were all complaining about the heat, lol!

laughalot · 04/09/2006 18:56

Gosh there is loads of boys heres hoping to a few more girls else my little one will be rather lonley . Are any of the second time mums getting worried about the birth thing again I dont want to put all you new mummies off but I found it far easier the first time round not knowing than this time where I know whats to come ............. hell sorry I had to say that it and it only applies to the birth bit

Dragonhart · 04/09/2006 19:37

Weel, back after my week away at the Inlaws and it wasnt too bad. Actually had a good time for most of the time and only really had a prob with my lazy SIL who is a total pain. Luckily prob wont see her for ages as she wont drive all the way to us and I have said that I am not doing the 4 1/2 hours journey again before we have the baby, and prb wont be going til spring with the new one anyway.

Feeling pretty good actually, glad to be home, bump getting bigger and bigger as are my boobs, feeling lots of movements now but not regularily yet. Was supposed to have made an appt with midwife for week after scan but was away, then the clinics are on mon and tue so will have to wait til next week. Just not worrying about it, when last time I was quite paranoid about it all.

Have had a quick scan through all the posts to catch up, and welcome to all the newcomers, congrats on the scans and boys and girls.

Firsttimemum - glad the wedding went well. Hope you have a good break

ELM - good luck tom. xxx

muppet3 · 05/09/2006 08:15

Hello to newbies and old(er) friends. Feeling a little low - am battling with my health at work - dreadful chairs in the office are making my sore back much worse, and am now swelling up from the knee down by lunchtime each day. Sore legs, sore back, huge achy bump so I can't sleep properly - how can this be happening by 22 weeks?! Plus exhausted. Am I a complete wimp for rethinking my maternity leave departure date and bringing it forward to 29 weeks? I get a year or two of potential leave, so it's not like it will limit me much at the other end. I just feel a bit useless for caving in so early. Seem to be surrounded by friends with those 'I worked full-time and overtime til 38 weeks and had no problems' stories ...
