Hi everyone just wanted to update you all on my tests that went missing last week, well I had a phone call today to say dont panic they have found the tests at the hospital and I now have the results : Downs syndrome came back as 1 in 390 which apparently is ok anything 200 or below is high risk I must say I am releived after all the trouble I had with my ds and I was dreading it in case I had to have a amnio again however I still feel that it is quite a low figure to say some peoples results are 1 in thousands , spina bifida was also fine, I am trying to be hapy and the midwife was very positive but I wanted it to be 1 in loads.

Nemo1977 · 11/08/2006 19:55

still cant find heartbeat..bit panicky now but will wait until tommorow. Am thinking/hoping placenta might be at front which will explain why not getting anything and why its always been a little difficult. Only worrying as with dd felt movements from 15wks and by now she was flipping around mad.

magnolia1 · 11/08/2006 20:56

Nemo hun I am sure its fine xxxx This is #5 and I felt movement with dd4 at 13 weeks. This time I was 17-18 before i felt anything. Am 21 now and only been the past week I have had proper movements.

Keep us posted xxx

2Happy · 11/08/2006 21:01

I'm sure my movements with ds were very intermittent for the first few weeks, and so far this baby is no different. I may feel loads for an evening, then nothing for days. It moved when I was being scanned and I couldn't feel a thing, I think it really does depend on position. But I don't think that anything will stop you worrying except finding the heartbeat or seeing it on a scan, so it is worth getting it checked out by mw/hospital if possible. With everything you've been through before, I think anyone can understand your fears .

skerriesmum · 11/08/2006 21:05

Hi all, it's been awhile but then I've been on holidays etc. my 12 week scan looked great and I have my halfway one next week, wow! At 18/19 weeks now, lucky to feel good too.
My sil is due her first around Christmas so it's been fun comparing bumps... this is our second, ds is 3, will be nearly 4 when number two arrives.
I'm 35, dh is 34.
Will post again soon!

Nemo1977 · 12/08/2006 09:02

trinityrhino · 12/08/2006 09:03

so glad your ok nemo

Nemo1977 · 12/08/2006 09:07

thanks trinity..how are you going on the bedroom situation with your little one? Tried the bed yet or waiting a while?

trinityrhino · 12/08/2006 09:08

gonna wait a little while till I feel really ready and know exactly ow I'm going to deal with her not settling

katierocket · 12/08/2006 09:45

Well it's going to be a while before I stop worrying. Had horrendous day yesterday. Went to loo and there was brown discharge. Midwife came round, listened to heartbeat then sent me to the hospital to have my cervix checked and a swab taken. I was pertrified. They can't find a reason for it and it's stopped now. Desperate for 20 week scan now.

18+6

Nemo1977 · 12/08/2006 10:12

awww katie..when is your scan???

Mine was supposed to be 25th but been moved to 31st arghhhh

katierocket · 12/08/2006 10:27

It's not until 29th so a couple of weeks yet. I considered paying for one privately to have it done sooner but have decided to wait.

elliepippamummy · 12/08/2006 16:46

Katierocket I had this a few weeks ago saga about it on part 2 thread but mine was actually a water infection and its quite common in preganancy when you get infection to get brown discharge I didnt have any other symptons apart from a bit of backache so hadnt even thought about infection! Hope that helps a bit.

Had a very productive day today DH at work so my dad (who is a builder yipee!) came round and made all our new bedroom furniture for us so apart from paintng the walls its another room redone. i seem to have an obsession with decorating when pg as when having DD I ordered a kitchen that was delivered when I was 36 weeks as I had my section booked for 39 weeks I insisted it all had to done and finished (including floor, tiles on walls etc) befre I went in and bless my dad he did it for me. This time I've written a huge list ofjobs such as reglossing nursery skirting/windowsills, redoing our room etc etc and we seem to be getting thru it although I'm sure I'll add extra onto it!!

hiya all.....glad you found your baby nemo!! must be a relief. mine keeps moving every five minutes, i'm starting to wonder if i might not be further along than they thought?

just a quick query for any of you that might know: is it possible, in the very early stages of pregnancy, to "miss" a foetus on an ultrasound scan? i had a positive pregnancy test back at the end of february but then started to bleed. not heavily, just like a period, with normal period pains etc. i had a scan and they said i'd miscarried but i never had a DNC or anything so i'm wondering if that one might never have gone at all...i did have one period in between the miscarriage and this one, but i've heard of some women having periods all the way through. i dunno, just confused by movement and big bump! i look 6 months already! i'm probably just fat!

dragonhart: ophthlamic surgery would be a last resort, and incredibly unlikely with an intermittent squint. they'd only do surgery if there was a risk of blindness. what they're far more likely to do is make him wear a patch or specs, or maybe multifocal specs and a patch (like i had to - i was the laughing stock of my whole infants school! )...if there is genetic myopia (short-sightedness) on both sides then he is lucky (believe it or not!) as being highly myopic AND ametropic is very very rare, although i managed it, so perhaps i should shut up!

my dad's been taken into hospital again, so went to see him this afternoon. just convinced me even more i want a home birth! the food is pretty poor and the hygiene is dubious to say the least. anyone else thought about birth plans yet? or is it a bit early?

aaaaanyway, i'll stop rambling now and go and give my poor dp some tea! he hasn't eaten since breakfast, although he knows where the bread & the toast & the marmite is, and last time i checked i wasn't his mum! oh well, i'm hungry too! maybe i'll blag him into getting a chinese......xxx

laughalot · 13/08/2006 12:07

Urban I have no advice whatsoever about the mc how many weeks do you think you should be ? Its seems strange that you have got loads of movement and seem really big have you spoke to the midwife about it ? I hope you get some answers soon wouldnt it be strange if it was the same one. Hope your dad feels better soon to. Well birth plan definatly hospital for me I am the biggest whimp in the world and after the crap birth I had with ds I wouldnt trust myself at home, I would like a water birth this time last time had gas and air, pethadine, epidural and ended up with a vontouse deleivery so hoping for a better one this time. Well I am 18+ 3 and baby all of a sudden these past 2 days has started fluttering like mad inside , my scan is the 29th I cant wait.

Kate hope the brown discharge has all stopped and you feel bette soon.

Nemo1977 · 13/08/2006 12:11

urban..no advice..have you had a scan at all this pregnancy??? Sorry cant remember how far on you should be but with dd I was huge from 7wks and felt her moving from around 14wks with both ds and this baby has been moving later and not as big. Just starting to show.

trinityrhino · 13/08/2006 15:16

i think that i have felt the baby move a tiny teeny bit, but I don't know if I'm imagining it, is it too early at 15+2, it's my third and I cannot remember when I first started feeling it before, knowing me it's probably just wind lol

jessddibs · 13/08/2006 15:55

theurbandryad- Have you not had a dating scan??? The midwife said that a scan before 20 weeks is 99% accurate as all fetous' are the same size at each weekly stage, but after 20 weeks they then start to grow at different rates so it would only be an estimated delivery date and they could get it wrong. I only know this cause I was put back a week and a half at my dating scan and so asked 20 questions about how they can tell. Hope this helps. Also, I am just 17 weeks and have been feeling very strong movements for the last week or so and I have a masssive belly. I am only a size 10 normally so look 6months pregnant myself! It is so different this time round. I didn't feel a kick till 20+ weeks with dd and didn't show much at all till 6 months preggers!

Not much else to write home about apart from I am peed off with my limited wardrobe!!!!!!!!!

Raindog · 13/08/2006 20:38

Thanks everyone for the reassuring messages about bleeding. Today was the first time in 2 weeks that I haven't had any bleeding so I'm feeling miles more positive. And I'm seeing the midwife on tuesday so can't wait to hear that heartbeat! I think I've felt the odd kick too.

Assuming everything is okay from now, I'm definitely going to try for a homebirth. I nearly had a homebirth last time which was brilliant, but just as I was pushing there was a bit of meconium in the fluid and I had to get an ambulance to the hospital instead. I was gutted. (was also quite embarrassing having two ambulance men drinking tea in my living room whilst I went through the complete kama sutra of childbirth positions to get the baby out - she wouldn't budge in time). The midwives and the whole experience at home was fantastic. I only had a bit of gas and air towards the end. The bit in hospital was awful though. The delivery itself was fine (probably because my midwives came with me) but I can't bear hospitals and the postnatal ward was run by the most horrible staff ever. Not one of them smiled or even said congratulations. I had to go to the ward at about midnight and they just barged in, switched lights on, stuck thermometers in my ear and my baby's without saying who they were...I could go on. I was also glad I took the flash wipes after seeing the state of the bathroom......I shudder to remember it. Homebirth all the way!

I'm sure there are some lovely hospitals though and I also know lots of people with very good experiences at my hospital, so I guess it's luck of the draw.

I can;t believe so many people have the second scan coming up - mine's not until 18 september which seems ages away! Hope they all go well.

Dragonhart · 13/08/2006 21:22

Laughalot - glad you eventually got your results, and that they are good.

Thanks for the info Urbandryad - might tap you for more info at a later date.

I think all those opting for a home birth must be pretty brave!! I dont have much choice really as I am having a c section. But even if I was having a normal delivery, I dont think I could do it! I know what you mean about the stay in hospital being horrible Raindog, ours was quite clean but the night staff were pretty mean and I spent most nights crying along with DS. No help with BF either, just kept stuffing my nipple into DS crying mouth and telling me if I didn't feed him he would get dehydrated when he wouldn't latch on. Got it all sorted when I was home and BF councillor (sp?) came to help me.

Very scared about c section. Cryed to DH for ages last night as so worried about something going wrong. Didn't worry last time about myself as was too busy worrying about DS. Keep thinking that if something happens to me DS would have no mum. Also feel really selfish as not really worying about this baby just about me and DS. When I was preg with DS, all I thougt about was having a little baby but this time I keep forgetting! Do I sound horrible?

Thinking of all those having problems with bleeding. xxx

katierocket · 14/08/2006 07:48

Hi everyone
Dragonheart, don't worry about the section. Planned sections are a straightforward procedure.

Sorry to hear about your bleeding raindog, hope the MW can reassure you tomorrow.

I still can't say I've felt very much and I'm 19 weeks today, it's very frustrating.
I Think we're going to go for a homebirth too. I had a horrible labour and delivery with DS and I'd love for it to be very different to that. Hopefully teh fact that i had a ventouse delivery won't mean I can't have a homebirth.

laughalot · 14/08/2006 12:58

Dragon I feel the same way as you I dont have much time to think about the new baby as I am to busy chasing son round who is 2, I wouldnt worry to much you will get used to the idea when you get bigger and bigger and bigger . I am definatley getting flutters now last night I sat through silent witness with my hand on my bump all my dh said is why have you got your hands down your pants they are so rude thease men. I am a little worried my friend came round yeaterday her dd was born in april and I was cuddling her as you do and then when she went back to her mummy my ds went up and hit the baby I could have cried there and then he was being so naughty and all I could think is what am I doing having another if he is going to be like this , on a brighter note we have finally picked our names it will be lauren mckenzie for a girl and ben thomas for a boy.

magnolia1 · 14/08/2006 13:21
