Dh said "but we're not scottish" when i suggested it.

Yes...and!!??

Ds3 was very nearly Finley james instead of James finley and Finley isn't exactly english through and through.

(actually can never remeber if it's irish or scotish...or how we spell it, FinlEy or FinlAy. terrible mother)

el123456 · 30/08/2006 22:44

Nemo1977 · 30/08/2006 22:51

lol El dont worry about it..I am a dipper in and out of the thread so dont know too much about others.

2Happy · 31/08/2006 01:31

Don't worry El, I didn't join the "due" in June '05 thread until November '05, and there have still been afew who've joined since then! Trust me, by the time these ones are born, you'll be an oldie on the thread ((and if you're wondering what the heck I'm doing posting at this time of the night, I'm kind of wondering that myself. ds still awake , don't know if he's still off-kilter since the holiday or if it's a side effect of him having the mmr today.))

LadyTophamHatt · 31/08/2006 06:34

Oh..LOLOL, el123456!
you seem to forget we (at least you and me) are on baby no4...do you think we'll rememebr half of the facts that the others have posted

I have to read almost the whole thread each time I come on just to remind myself of whats what and whos who.

I'm glad you've found us now

theUrbanDryad · 31/08/2006 10:22

morning all! we like zachary too, but DP prefers just zack...like martin too, but prefer it as martyn. the only thing is the poor boy would be forever having to spell his name for people over the phone. sigh......too many variables to think of!

got dentist today....bleargh. at least it's free but not eye tests for some reason. which is a pain cause i could do with one, not to mention some help towards specs as mine are on their last legs and i can't afford new ones

a very quick question.....does anyone here know anything about tax credits? i've been on the HM revenue and customs website but it seems deliberately set up to be totally incomprehensible to anyone except a chartered accountant! do any of you claim or know the criteria for claiming?

Agree with you re inland revenue website. Try
www.direct.gov.uk which says quite simply that:

"All families with children can claim Child Tax Credit if their income is no more than £58,175 a year (up to £66,350 if you have a child under one)."

theUrbanDryad · 31/08/2006 10:49

aha......cause i got really confused when i tried to do the "are you eligible" thing, and they said that we are entitled to working tax credit now, but the amount we're entitled to is £0.00!! wierd...ah well i'll ring the helpline and see what they say. cause our annual income is £18,500, so i think we must be entitled to something! (anyway, even if we're not, it's always worth asking!!)

cheers for the advice btw ladies....x

poppynic · 31/08/2006 10:57

Hi. I'm new to Mumsnet and keep finding new threads to join! (My poor son is becoming even more neglected.)

I'm due on 14/1 and am terrified of the hospital. (Royal London Free) Last babe was born in NZ where I had a measure of security because I could afford my own consultant (not a hope in hell here). Am terrified of being practised on by some junior (who of course has to learn but please not to make mistakes on me) And then there's that report out on that London hospital with 9 "hospital mistake" deaths in 3 years. I haven't been reassured by any of the hospital appointments I've had so far.

I've thought maybe I should drag my sister-in-law along who's both very nice and a nurse lecuturer and MIL assures me she would be good at bossing hospital staff around (that could be a typical MIL view!). Has anyone else taken people other than partner to the hospital birth? How did it go? I normally wouldn't dream of it but have a friend who had a terrible (though not particularly dangerous) birth there and think maybe someone to promote my interests might be useful (dh is far too polite to be properly stroppy).

elliepippamummy · 31/08/2006 11:33

Welcome Poppynic & El!

Poppynic wen I had planned section with DD my DH came into theatre but my mum and dad were waiting in te corridor as my mum didnt think DH would cope (not very good at blood) also I was birthing partner for one of my friends as again her DH wasnt partculary good at hospitals although he did come inand out he stressed her out so much he preferred it when he was "having a coffee" you could ask the hospital if you are allowed 2 people with you.

Cant remember who said they had a scan today but good luck. Beware of the damn tax credits mine went smoothly for the first 6 months got child tax credit (think it wss around £90 per month if its your 1st as you get double for the first 12 months then drops to around £45 this is the minimum amount as our incomes ar £35k jointly now) but when I went back to work part time I filled in the forms correctly (tip keep photocopies of everything) but they processe it as my DH works 40+hours a week for nil salary therefore started paying working tax credit i phoned straight away they admitted it was there fault but thy didnt know how to stop the systemmaking the payments but 15 months later I have £2500 of working tax credit money and havent had any child tax credit paid since april 05 whilts they decide what to do aaargh they are a nightmare and its very tempting to dip into the money they've been paying in error so I'vebeen withdrawing it and giving it to my mum who opened an acount in hername so I cant touch it as I'm sure at some point they'll want it back!!

Also any first timers you'll get child beenfit on top of this which I think is around £60-65per month

Poppynic I am thinking about hiring a doula, as I'm not sure how DP will cope on the day. Your SIL sounds ideally qualified - someone to boss hospital staff around is just what I'm looking for (this is my first, btw, so still hoping to do it all without a doctor in sight, etc etc. let me dream).

Nemo1977 · 31/08/2006 13:11

hello all
just quicky to say welcome to poppynic too...due same day as me

Well had my scan this morning which was great and we are having another.....stubborn baby...arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....lol Same as dd this time last year with legs clamped in a am I hell gonna give it up..pmsl. Oh well at least I have unisex first size stuff..lol

Sredni · 31/08/2006 15:56

Am I too late to join? I'm due with my first on Jan 15 (a boy!), and I'm hoping for a nice calm second half of pregnancy (so far, vanishing twin, suspected Edward's syndrome, got mugged last week...)

theUrbanDryad · 31/08/2006 16:17

blimey love! you don't do things by half do you?!! who else was it got mugged in their first trimester? hope you and bean are ok now though....

elliepippamummy: why don't you put the money into a high-interest instant access ISA account? they can't ask for the interest back, surely? and the interest on £2500 wouldn't be anything to sneeze at...just a quick thought (as in, i'm a sneaky bitch, so that's what i'd do...!)

poppynic, i'm terrified of my local hospital too (northampton general) especially since a friend who had a baby boy there recently said "if you go into hospital, don't take slippers take flip flops, cause the hospital showers are DISGUSTING!!!" so i'm planning to have this one at home. if you can have it at home then i would, but that's just my bias i think. i think your SIL sounds like a good idea though, especially if your hubby isn't the most assertive person in the world. having said that, this is my first baby so what do i know??! hope everything goes ok for you though matey.....

just been swimming with my best mate and my godchildren.....my goddaughter can now swim! she just needed a bit of confidence and with two adults there she got it! i'm so proud! and my godson can swim a length....was lovely to spend some time with them too. hmm....could these words be coming from the head of the same woman who said "i'm never having kids! i'm never getting married!"? not that i'm eating my words or anything....

Sredni · 31/08/2006 16:32

Yep, everything seems fine now thank god - except I'm 3 grand down .

Poppynic, do you have to go to the Royal Free? How about UCH or St Mary's or St Thomas's? I'm at UCH even though our closest hospital is Whipps Cross (insert scared emoticon here) but when I said I wanted UCH they didn't bat an eyelid. And after all the scary stuff - see my other post - I'm so glad to be in a good teaching hospital where people know what they are about.

theUrbanDryad · 31/08/2006 16:47

three grand??? WTF??? how?

magnolia1 · 31/08/2006 16:54

Welcome to the madhouse sredni, sorry you have such a rollercoaster so far. Hope things are settled now

Ok now I know this sounds bizzare but I am going to do a nude photo shoot for a glossy mag
Its Demi Moore style like she did on the front of vanity fair
The shoot is next Friday, Dh thinks I'm mad and has reminded me to trim my lady garden

theUrbanDryad · 31/08/2006 16:58

that's sooooooooo cool! i have a friend who's a professional photographer and i'm getting him to do some photos for me when i'm really big. i've known him since i was 3 and he's my best friend, so no embarassment!

but yes, magnolia, trim the ladygarden.....

LadyTophamHatt · 31/08/2006 17:04

WOW magnolia...which Mag?? will we get to see you?

not anything top shelf I hope.... but then if you're worrying about your lady garden being on show maybe it is....hehehehehehe

Well done, I'd love it if it were me.

magnolia1 · 31/08/2006 17:05

No not top shelf!!! Was just worried about photo team seeing me tut!! What kind of lady do you think I am

It was on the media request threads on mumsnet!!!

theUrbanDryad · 31/08/2006 17:08

was it? i wanna do it too! where where where???

LadyTophamHatt · 31/08/2006 17:12

having said that, I have to keep a careful check on my lady garden when PG because although the hair on my head seems to virtually stop growing the lady garden grows at an alarming rate.

I'd have to sort mine out with a hedge trimmer if I was doing a noooodie photo.
Christ! I'd probably have to ask Sussex county council to come and trim it for me

magnolia1 · 31/08/2006 17:12

Urban You found it!!! I doing it next Friday but they offered wednesday too
