magnolia1 · 27/08/2006 16:00

I have bizzare paranoia about all sorts at the moment but mainly about moths in my bedroom and nits in my hair

Sorry to make you all itch but the girls went out with friends the other day and came home with nits And the buggers for the 1st time like my hair
So have spent the morning with tea tree conditioner and the nit comb!!!

theUrbanDryad · 27/08/2006 17:50

nice...i used to live as a lodger with a guy who had three small daughters, and regularly had to go through my hair (which at the time was almost down to waist!) with a nit comb! it got so bad that i eventually put it in dreadlocks! so i know where you're coming from.....have you tried tea tree shampoo? it works like a charm for flea-y cats, so might work for nits, i dunno....

theUrbanDryad · 27/08/2006 17:53

yeah, it might help if i'd actually read the whole of your message huh? feeling very wierd today as we're going through a lot of DP's house stuff (plates, cutlery etc) that he had when he lived with his ex (who has the same name as me!) just feels odd to look at the stuff he used with her....even though it was 3 years ago! so tired today as well......don't like being away from my house at the moment...if i was a small child i'd be "clingy".....

laughalot · 28/08/2006 12:22

I keep getting these feelings of are we mad having 2, will be ds be ok with a new baby so I dont think you ever stop worrying.

Hope everyone else is fine enjoy your bank holiday and send a few pink vibes my way but blue ones are fine to

flibertygibbet · 28/08/2006 19:35

Hi all,

Not posted for a while but wanted to let you know my news. I had my 20 week scan last week and everything is fine. We decided to find out what we're having this time and ............................ IT'S A BOY!

I'm chuffed to bits either way but in shock really as I've always pictured myself with two girls. DH reckons there's no chance it's wrong though, whenever I express any doubts about it being a boy he offers to draw me a picture of what he saw on the scan!

Glad to hear the scans are coming thick and fast now, lots of reassurance all round. I'm enjoying reading what everyone is having too, it's so exciting! Congrats to all who have had scans and fingers crossed for those still waiting.

It's lovely that we're all at the point that we really wanted to get to during that very scary first trimester!

Nemo1977 · 29/08/2006 07:26

hi all
fliberty congrates on a boy...

laughalot hope scan is great today. Mine was moved to thursday so still got to wait..lol

hope everyone is ok. I am full of cold so feel awful as cant take anything so not slept very well but never mind. Ds is currently annoying hell out of me by being super hyper..where do kids get the energy????? Think it is even worse as dd is still fast asleep in bed as is dh..arghhhh

flibertygibbet · 29/08/2006 07:56

Hi Nemo, thanks and sorry to hear you're not well. Hopefully it won't last long

Good luck today laughalot, hope all is well and you get a good view!

2Happy · 29/08/2006 07:56

Morning everyone. Another one here with a hyper ds and a sleeping dh.... Nah, I'll let him sleep today, he worked a really long day yesterday at the Glendale agricultural show. I took ds, who lurved the dancing JCB diggers, the tractors and all the livestock. I had a vision of me the rest of my life traipsing to these ruddy shows every summer with a troop of boys who just want to talk tractors. Sigh. Please send me pink vibes [hopeful emoticon].
Nemo, really hope you're feeling better soon. I'd say pass it on to dh so he knows how you feel, but then he'd end up with manflu and much more unwell than you, wouldn't he
fliberty - congrats on the boy! Any names?
Laughalot - good luck with your scan today!
magnolia - oh no, poor you! I remember when we had nits as kids, using that ridiculous shampoo and fashioning mohicans for each other with it because it was so sticky. I hope the tea tree oil works.
UD - glad to hear the in-laws took the news well, what a shocker! D'you think the arguement with dp made her see sense, or did she grow up overnight?
CB - aahh, trousers not knickers. Mind, my dsis wore HUGE pants all the way through her last pregnancy. Never figured out why! I'd never heard of sage for reducing milk, though I've heard of fenugreek for increasing it. Thing is, since I'm still bfing ds I don't really want to reduce the flow. Thing is (TMI alert, again!) the leaking is giving me horrifically tender nipples, and ds is biting again (teething canines) so I'm not sure how much longer I'm really going to bf. Then I'll use your sage tip, definitely! (Thick question - do you eat it, or put the leaves on your boobs? )

laughalot · 29/08/2006 12:34

Well I had my scan today all is well and im having a LITTLE GIRL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 I am over the moon one of each im so happy her name will be lauren. Hope all is well with everyone else. Congrats fli on the boy they are great we will have to swap tips

Hattie2 · 29/08/2006 13:55

lulu25 · 29/08/2006 16:03

Hello again. Has anyone one here got experience of doulas/planning to use one this time? My DP will be joining me but I would like to have an independent advocate who's seen it all before and, particularly, will get anyone out of the room who isn't strictly necessary. The whole concept is a bit new to me though and I don't know for example if midwives always take kindly to the idea. Any thoughts welcome.

My scan Monday... want to find out the sex but it didn't feel much like co-operating for the nuchal fold scan all those weeks ago so it might keep us guessing.

MrsPeacock · 29/08/2006 16:07

Hello again everybody,
Its lovely to catch up on this thread and hear all your wonderful news, congratulations to all of you who found out the sex of their little bumps, I had my scan on friday all is fine, we didn't find out the sex, I am still enjoying all the speculation!
I don't want to continue the worry but I have been feeling really weird this last week, then this morning I got quite dizzy and wobbly until I had a sit down but am still feeling very sleepy and strange. I think this is possibly due to over doing it a bit at the weekend. DH and myself are on a massive DIY push to sort out the house we have been doing up for the past 2 years as he is due for a shoulder operation which means his arm will be strapped to his chest for 6-8weeks to recover and then it will pretty much be xmas and then baby (hopefully it won't turn up early - I am due on the 2nd Jan).
Although its nice to be making a start on the baby's room and fixing the house up so it will be cosy and warm and not have too many powertools and bare plaster in its nursery, I am feeling really overwhelmed and a bit panicky. Is this a usual pregnancy thing or am I just going mental?

muppet3 · 29/08/2006 16:13

Good to read all the happy news from scans Just thought I'd share - I was getting pretty tired of all the sharp muscle pains and stitches when walking and bought one of those Emma Jane 'bump belts' to see if it helped ... and with it on I walked miles at the weekend with no aches or discomfort at all! Am now a big fan. Doesn't help me stop eating cake at every available opportunity though, sadly.

muppet3 · 29/08/2006 16:17

Mrs Peacock - you sound completely normal to me, hun. It's a lot to do with hormones at the moment, as well as needing plenty of rest. I'm due 2 days after you, and have got the occasional dizzy/zombie-like thing whenever I've had a busy day or two. And we're thinking about moving house and taking on a DIY project - usually the kind of thing that I'm quite positive about, but last night I sat down in floods of tears and howled at DH about how unsettled and frightened even looking at ideas on the internet was making me at the moment. That followed last week's crying session where I blubbed and yelled at him about not putting out the recycling bin I have turned into the mood-swinging bitch from hell

MrsPeacock · 29/08/2006 16:25

Bless you muppet,

I was beginning to think it was just me, everything seems to put me in a proper panic at the moment its my poor DH thats getting the brunt of it all too. I am usually the one getting invloved in too many projects coping pretty well but at the moment everything seems to be getting to me. AND I am still feeling knackered, when is this '2nd trimester full of energy, feeling great' pregnancy symptom going to kick in? I feel like I am being cheated.

muppet3 · 29/08/2006 16:36

You have my total sympathy - it's shaken me a bit too, how tired and emotionally fragile I seem to be. I'm now making more time to just sit and read - have bought a pile of second hand books I fancy, and whenever I get into frantic mode, am trying to sit down calmly and lose myself in one for half an hour. I think it's helping - it makes me rest a bit more, and it takes me out of the panicky feelings and helps me to rebalance a bit.

DH has even started offering to bring me my book during conversations when he can see I'm starting to get overwrought

laughalot · 29/08/2006 19:24

Hi Mrs P its perfectly normal to feel overwhelmed and slightly panicky its part and parcel of being pg you will be fine it happened in my 1st pregnancy and the same this time round but where as 1st time it was money, how will it change us, now it is how will ds cope with a new baby
You will be fine and those feelings will soon change as for the dizzy spells I was cooking something last week and had to sit down I felt really sick and dizzy.

theUrbanDryad · 30/08/2006 16:32

hi all.....CONGRATULATIONS to all of you who had scans etc...love lauren as a name for a little girl, that was one we considered, as well as bethany, till we found out it was a boy, natch! any ideas on boy's names yet ladies? we could do with some help! is it me or is it a lot harder to think of boy's names than girls? at the moment we like zachary and arthur. also really like oliver, but my godson is oliver and it might get confusing!

2Happy, you need to get some fresh sage leaves, dry them and then stew them in boiling water to make tea. however it's NOT recommended when pregnant (cause it dries up breastmilk!) so i would definitely check with your midwife before you take it. sage is usually used when weaning, but (useless information coming up!) sage leaves can be strewn in bathwater and in rinse water to enhance dark hair, cleanse oily hair and help prevent falling hair. It can be used as an aftershave and skin lotion. The leaves yield a yellow-beige dye with alum mordant, yellow with chrome mordant and green-grey with iron mordant. Sage repels cabbage moths, carrot fly and ticks. Combined with rosemary, it acts as a preservative, due to its antibacterial property. Use the fresh leaves to rub over teeth and gums -helps prevent build-up of tartar, removes plaque, freshens the breath - beautifully!
Because of its antiseptic qualities, sage tea is used as a gargle for sore throat, gum and mouth infections, or as a wash for acne, and as a hair rinse for dandruff. Boosts insulin levels, so may be useful in treating diabetes. Used to regulate menstruation and to treat menopausal symptoms, especially hot flushes. Quickly reduces perspiration. Sprinkle dried leaf powder onto wounds to disinfect. Sage improves the memory, treats liver and gallbladder problems, cleanses the female genitals, relieves flatulence, stimulates cell growth. Helps reduce milk flow when weaning babies. Use the tea as a gargle for bleeding gums, and apply it to cold sores. It is sometimes taken to treat mild diarrhoea, carpal tunnel syndrome, tonsillitis and Alzeimer?s Disease. The essential oil can be massaged in to ease muscular tension or pain, and to treat cellulite. so there you go. sage, very useful stuff!

MIL is now being a bit of a nightmare again (what a fcking surprise!)....we've asked her to do the cake as she's very good at cake decorating etc, only to find she'd already made a 3-tier cake (which wasn't what we'd wanted, but never mind!) and is now making huge noises cause i want a very simple white icing with love heart sweets stuck on AND THAT'S IT!!!! NO "favour" boxes to give away. NO flowers on the table. NO little boxes for people to take cake home in (if they're not there, they don't get cake. end of.) NO flowery fcking invites (i've already designed the invites to look like ransom notes, which i think is hilarious!)....sigh bloody wedding. more hassle than it's worth. she just gets so hung up on all these tacky ideas that i really wanted to avoid, then gets upset when i veto them mercilessly. she's bought us this wedding album with a teddy bear bride & groom on it. y'know, the "tatty" bears, the sort you get in clintons. I HATE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think it's tacky and schamltzy and unecessary. am i mean?

anyway, good luck to those of you still waiting for scans.....pink vibes being sent out (though it didn't work for me not that i'm bothered...i love my little dude already!) 2Happy hope the sage info helps....but please don't just go on what i say, as i often talk shite. xxxxx - em

firsttimemummy · 30/08/2006 16:57

Hello ladies,
had my 21 week scan today, all was fa=ine and baby was jumping about loads.

Oh.....and you'll never guess.

It's a another boy!

4 boys!!!....I already live in the noisiest house in our street because of the 3 we have so heaven help the neighbours with another one in the mix

I did cry about the little girl that I'll never have...but it's all ok now. It'll be an adventure

LadyTophamHatt · 30/08/2006 17:17

OH...and has anyone seen katierocket? Her scan was on tuesday.

I hope everything is ok KR.

katierocket · 30/08/2006 17:19

Spooky LTH was just about to post.
So glad all is good with you. Four boys is lovely, a real team and I bet they all adore you. Girls are overrated IMO - more stroppy and difficult to handle! (mass generalisation!)

My scan was fine thanks very much. lovely to see the bean again - all seems fine. I feel much more relaxed today

LadyTophamHatt · 30/08/2006 17:21

LOL...as if by magic you appear.
