Mrsworry - the pulse thing sounds familiar from here. to start with, it was just that, but now I can often feel the baby moving around when the pulse gets strong. And I can definitely relate to the slight jabbing pains too!

Bring on the pram/buggy/travel system queries and let battle commence

p.s. scan at 4pm, assuming the NHS haven't ballsed up my appointment / dates/ notes as usual ...

elliepippamummy · 23/08/2006 14:59

Urban where are you? good luck for scan muppet.

I had mamas and papas travel system for DD but have to say never used it much as a TS car seat fantastic but always thought DD looked so much comfortable laying flat in pushchair (and we bought one of those sheepskin fleeces and she loved to suggle in that especially as she was an autumn baby)

If I couls do it again I would buy a pram that can change to buggy (think M&P do these) or a nice pram facing you & then get a buggy xx

Mrs worry my pram was a graco one it was the one where the car seats fits on top and then it turns into a pushchair later personally I really like it and wont be changing it as my ds is only 2 so its fairly new anyway the only thing that puts people of is the baby dosent lie flat as it is a car seat at first which never worried me and it has had no effects on my son but people dont always like to see them in that. All I would say and it is easy to get carried away with your first we all do it they arent in it for 2 minutes and if you have spent loads of money it can be a waste but it is your baby so you do whats best.

Hi girls and welcome to new ladies.

Just a quick post about prams.

Almost everyone I know who bought a travel system said it was too heavy and cumbersome after a few months and bought a lightwieght reclining buggy.

Personally I think they aren't worth the money or hard work. All 3 DS's used the same M&P pram from birth (booo-hooo which I got rid of before we moved) and then I got a new buggy when they were 5ish months or when they lost interest in looking at me and wanted to look around abit more

if anyone is interested I bought this one.

It was in the sale when I got it though so I'm feeling pretty smug to have snaffled a bargian

LadyTophamHatt · 23/08/2006 17:33

well...almost everyone except laughalot

Dragonhart · 23/08/2006 20:08

Hope everything went well Muppet and Urban.

I bought Quinny Speedi, carrycot and Maxi Cabrio Car seat. I loved it, used it loads, it was really easy to use and a dream to wheel about. Could put DS straight on frame in car seat or if he was going to be in it for a while use the carry cot. It was one of very few which had a handle tall enough for me.

I must say though, I have an esate and pretty good muscles which is good because the systam was pretty heavy to lift in to the car and took up alot of space in the boot. Def not advised for a small lady with a fiesta! Everyone told me that I wouldnt use it and it was a complete waste of money, but I just had to have it. It worked out well for me as I used it loads but I know alot of peop;le dont use the travel systems/prams they buy. I now use a really cheap buggy from Babie R us (£40!!) and that is great too. Both have been really usefull. Gutted that I wont be able to use carrycot much for the new baby as DS will still need a seat when we go out so it is off to choose one of the HIDEOUS double buggies. Boooo!

MrsWorry I was in mothercare today and felt like I had a plastic tag sticking in my tummy. Felt down between my skirt and my tummy and there was nothing there but it felt like I had a splinter in my tummy when I touched it. Didnt have that last timebut I have had stabby kicks this time that make me feel like they are coming from the outside rather than the inside!

Does it sound crazy if I say that the more I look at my scan picture, the more I am sure it is a girl!!

muppet3 · 24/08/2006 08:08

Thanks for the good wishes - scan went well. Lovely to see our baby so active and big! Head is a fair bit smaller than average, but waist and tummy are near the top end of the size scale ... it's fat already Anyway, no anomalies, nothing to comment on, and we didn't find out the sex - not sure they could have told given baby's position either. Lovely sonographer and other staff though. That was my first visit to Chelsea & Westminster, and now feeling lots more positive about going there

We're getting one of the Phil & Ted's E3s. Because (yes, we're probably nuts) we'd like to have another child within a couple of years of this one, and I like the idea of laying out the money once for a go-flat / buggy that will accomodate 2 kids, rather than ending up buying another one in a bit. Plus the cosy carry for newborns is extremely cute and warm, so ideal for a January baby. DH wants it in lime green though ... the only bone of contention ...

LadyTophamHatt · 24/08/2006 08:32

Glad it all went well muppet.

Hope urban appears soon, she's making me worry, I hope everything is ok.

Mrsworry · 24/08/2006 10:52

Thanks for the pram advice, I think we will just have to have a good look and try out all different styles, I suppose you don't really know what will suit you until the baby arrives and you start using it (by which time its too late)!

Thanks though for your views, I appreciate them!

I hope Urban is okay...Urban where are you??????

lulu25 · 24/08/2006 13:21

Hello. I've got a cold . Does anyone know if there are any decongestants I'm allowed to take?

Mrsworry · 24/08/2006 13:31

I'm not sure about the medication that's allowed but filling a large bowl with boiling water and hanging your head over it with a towel over your head is always a good natural remedy!

Sorry to hear you are not well, my dh has man flu... typical!!

theUrbanDryad · 24/08/2006 13:37

hi guys....sorry to make you wait/worry!

well the scan went brilliantly, baby is all normal sized for dates and everything and IT'S A BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so guess those pink vibes didn't work but i don't care cause i'm chuffed to bits. we were there for ages cause he wouldn't lie still (just like mumma!)...makes a change cause for the first one the sonographer was trying to make him move and he wouldn't. so, yeah, sorry to make y'all worry...it's all fine, i just didn't get a chance to post yesterday because we're sorting out the wedding and (touch wood) it's finally starting to come together.

so, see what you think to this: we're doing the legal bit on friday, just at the registry office parents and brother and SIL only (and witnesses) then on saturday we're taking 22 people on a canal cruise, having a handfasting on the boat then a meal at a really nice pub by the canal. it's all coming to a grand total of £939. do you think that sounds ok? haven't spoken to the outlaws about it yet, but hoping that being presented with a fait accomplis will have a soothing effect. or i could just get laughalot to punch them. or i could just punch them myself. not like me, but then my hormones ARE all over the place!

so, hope you're all well, welcome to the newbies too....when are you due? or should i just look on the stats thread?

oh and by the way my scan pics are on www.myspace.com/the_strange_place but i think you have to be a myspace member to look at them (its free to join but can be a bit of a hassle!)

Mrsworry · 24/08/2006 13:59

Congratulations Urban... a BOY... fantastic - have you got a name?

I think the wedding celebrations sound fab and all in your budget which is great. I think the most important thing here is that you sound very happy with your decision and are looking forward to it.. and that is exactly how it should be so go for it! What is the date again?

I can't access your pics at work but will try and have a look tonigh, so excited or you, my scan is not till 20 September...

theUrbanDryad · 24/08/2006 14:08

the date of the actual wedding is 29th sept and then we are doing the canal bit on the 30th. yeah, starting to look forward to it now.....after the wedding we can hopefully get all the baby stuff sorted now too. which secretly i'm looking forward to more (hehe)...

as for boy's names, we're really struggling. we had a girl's name sorted, but i don't think mariana elise is very suitable for a boy! i like aelfric and arthur for boys, but the problem with aelfric is that it gets shortened to alfie, and my DP's name is alistair which gets shortened to ali, so could be confusing when i'm yelling up the stairs. not sure about arthur cause it sounds like cat food (same for felix!) and shortened to art or artie it's going to become fart in the playground isn't it? any suggestions welcomed!

oh, that link i posted underneath doesn't work btw, so just copy and paste it into your browser...xxx

laughalot · 24/08/2006 14:57

Urban fab news hunny and you muppet glad all was well, boys are lovely urban so loving except they love worms and slugs . The wedding sounds fab by the way and yes I could be on hand to punch mil if needs be, well im off to make fairy cakes dont ask or if you do ask lth she will fill you in

theUrbanDryad · 24/08/2006 15:25

but i like worms too....hate slugs though, urrrgh. is it true boys are made of slugs & snails & puppydog tails? that's what i heard...

Dragonhart · 24/08/2006 19:47

Glad all went well Urban and congrats on having a boy! Found a bib in mothercare for girls which said "sugar and spice and all things nice" but they didnt have a co-ordinating one saying 'slugs and snails and puppy dog tails" for my DS so I was gutted! Wedding plans sound great too, I am sure you will have a great time!

Laughalot, are you near Frinton-on-sea? Off to MIL and FIL next week for a week so may need to rent you out if she interfears too much!!!

Nemo1977 · 24/08/2006 20:44

ohh urban boys are fab congrates...any names..lol

Muppet not nuts to have kids close together[ or it might be will let you know this time next year..pmsl] Am also toying with idea of an E3 but already have a marco sky which is good. Think am just worried as this age gap is even smaller with dd only being nearly 13mths when baby is due and ds will be 3.3yrs so he has no choice but to walk..lol

magnolia1 · 24/08/2006 21:20

Congrats on your Scan Urban and wedding plans sound exciting xxxx

Went to Thorpe Park today and I am shattered!!!! It was great but forgot how tiring it is and more so when pregnant. And doing Chessington World Of Adventures on Tuesday, must be mad :-)

LadyTophamHatt · 25/08/2006 08:35

Morning girls.

I'm having one of my moments again.

I had a dream last night that I had another boy. I was soooo gutted in the dream that I was in denial, telling people I didn't know what I'd had even though I'd dressed him myslef.
I'd dressed him as soon as he was born so that no-one would see his willy.

I was so gutted. I woke up feeling like utter shit.

WTF is all that about??

theUrbanDryad · 25/08/2006 09:17

errr....normal pregnancy paranoia? i had a dream a little while ago that i gave birth to twins, who were incredibly hairy and very tiny. i was trying to breastfeed them but they were too small, like kittens. actually had loads of 'fear' dreams about breastfeeding, it's probably my biggest fear, that i won't be able to.

why do we do it to ourselves eh??

LadyTophamHatt · 25/08/2006 09:21

I don't know urban...this feels like a lot more that PG paranoia.

In the dream I was saying I didn't know if was boy or gril because I hadn't dared to look properly. I knew he was boy though...

God, I felt like shit when I woke up....
