Morning ladies! Blimey this thread moves fast, I can never keep up...
So scan #2 saw bean described as a "naughty baby" by the dr because there was none of the earlier wriggling. I had to get up and jump around a few times to help dr get bean into the right position! I felt so stupid!!
I can't remember who asked but the Harmony test looks for free cell foetal DNA in the mother's blood stream, and uses that DNA to calculate a risk factor for Downs, Edwards and Patau's. The difference between Harmony and the standard NHS blood test is that the NHS one looks for hormones like HCG, as a high HCG level can indicate a trisomy, whilst Harmony looks for DNA markers. Harmony has something like a 99% accuracy rate. More info here: www.fetalmedicine.com/fmc/03-harmony-test/
As I am 37, I'd be expecting quite a high probability of a trisomy based on the NHS test - Harmony gives me more accurate odds based on DNA, meaning I can avoid the invasive tests more easily.
The Harmony results were great - 1 in 10,000 risk of a trisomy, NT measurements were well within normal range so I am finally starting to relax a bit!!!
EDD has shifted again, to 8 September, so slightly confused on that point but I guess it just shows dating isn't an exact science... I'll go with 8 September for now on basis that I think the second scan was with more high tech equipment.
