Was going to post yesterday, but got too het up about the red box thing. So hope you are all well and cool and relaxed. I've got this week and next a work then I'm free.Hurray!
Because of having hyperthyroidism for 4 months last year I have to go to hosp and be monitered every week now so at least I get to hear LO all hale and hearty, though I found out that it is breach atm.But hey, plenty of time yet even if I have had contractions all morning.
No waxy ears here, just a stuffy nose every morning. Bad hips now which is completely ruining any chance of a good night's sleep, v.annoying now we've finally got DD sleeping better. Anyway, soon be time for work, keep your fingers crossed for me that there's nothing happening so I can come home before 11pm.

mandaz · 09/08/2006 13:43

Hi all, just been catching up with all the posts.

Ezridax - I totally agree on the magazine thing and the mirror thing some of the other ladies were talking about. I'm not particularly squemish but there's just some things in life I'd rather not know

Pol - I too am looking at a part buy/part rent scheme. I live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and at the moment, a one bedroom, studio flat is at least £150 000 to buy privately. Renting is extortionate too. As I'm only going to have 1 income, my options are renting, part buy/part rent or housing association. I was told that to be considered for council housing I would have to be willng to go and live in a hostel for anything up to a year. Because I'm staying at my parents, I'm not deemed an 'emergency' case and am therefore unlikely ever to get to the top of the housing list. To be honest, I'd rather try for one of the part buy schemes anyway because I'd at least then have a foot on the housing ladder. I've been told that there are two schemes coming up in the local area at the end of next year so I'm really hoping to be working by then and able to apply for a house.

Lysettes/Hellkat - great news on your LO's.

Marls - I joined the Yahoo group and it says pending approval. It's a really good idea but I hope that MN continues too. It's been lovely to be able to chat to people etc and I'd be very upset if it had to close down. Is there anything MN members can do to try and help the situation?

I've been told that I have to go and see the anaesthetist. The mw told me that because I'm overweight, they could have a problem putting in an epidural or spinal, then seeing the look of sheer panic on my face swiftly backtracked and said she was sure it wouldn't be a problem but it's best to get checked out first. I'm so sick of being told that I'm overweight, I'm definitey joining a slimming club once LO arrives

Can anyone tell me, if you go for a late scan (I'll be 36 weeks) do you still need a full bladder?

pol26 · 09/08/2006 14:45

Hey all...!!!

Marls- i'm pending your approval on our yahoo groups, hope you'll accept me

Mabel- I agree go and get your rash checked out just in case, better to be safe than sorry.

Mandaz- I too am overweight, I just love all those yummy foods but mw hasn't mentioned about no epidural although mine wasn't that successful last time. Anyhow to get an epidural out of my mw seems like getting blood from a stone!

Talking of my MW... Went to see her today and i'm 34 weeks, she said I was measuring 36+ weeks and was bigger than she expected. MAYBE HE'LL COME EARLY!!! Said to her I wasn't happy with her attitude and the whole care I had(not) got from her. She said all she could do was appologise and she understood if I didn't want her atr my baby's birth. Was that she was sooooo nice this time and actually bothered about me. Even said to slow down to me as I hopped on the couch! She did mention i'm v.swollen and if not gone down I need to see her next week, although my bp seems to have stabilized rather than creeping up anymore. I am in that she was so nice! Maybe having a bit of a go at her sorted her out.

Marls001 · 09/08/2006 15:16

Sorry for time delay; I think we are up and running on Yahoo! Approval feature just for added security later ...

Homemama, so sorry ... nausea came back again for me too; that was the worst ... has left me again now, so hopefully will do same with you!

Mandaz - Those prices are amazing! How does anyone have a family there and not go into debt?
Definitely also hoping Mumsnet will not close down - that would be a shame; it offers so much information!!

Mabel, agree ... at least better to call in about it or get it checked out, just for comfort's sake ...

clairemow · 09/08/2006 16:23

Mabel, hope you've been to see the doctor now? the rash sounds irritating even if nothing else and they may be able to give you something.

Oh Homemama, I do feel for you (and DH!). Take care.

Mandaz, you don't need a full bladder for a late scan. Baby will be so big they couldn't miss it!!

Just come back from hair cut/colour (read 3 mags... - how lovely, looked at loads of pics of David Beckham's pecks in OK..) and lunch with friends. Made me wonder why I ever worked - oh yes, so I could pay for the lunch...!!! Now going to pack hospital bag (I know I said I was going to do that last week, but I admit I didn't...) [shame emoticon]

Coriander73 · 09/08/2006 17:30

I'm scared....just (stupidly) watched a home birth on tv & freaked out. DH came downstairs, asked what was wrong & said well it's got to come out so what's the point of getting upset & crying?......err.....hello????!!!! Bloody hormones....feel really angry today & just want to bite everyones' head off.....

OP posts:
trotskymow · 09/08/2006 19:26

don't do it Cori!!!

You'll all be pleased with me - I have now packed my hospital bag!!!!

Does all this sudden interest in cleaning/packing/making sure the moses basket is made up imply anything??? Perhaps my body knows something I don't....

Marls001 · 09/08/2006 19:31

Cori ... can't BELIEVE your DH said that!! Hormones or no, what a thing to say!! They're just lucky; I think most of them would opt to be altogether conked out instead of just given an epidural!

Don't worry. You're much stronger than you think you are. I'll just say that. As well as: what it looks like on TV, vs. what it really feels like to you, are two vastly different things. That's what ticks me off about watching births ... always different when you're in it, though it seems SO so scary on TV.

pol26 · 09/08/2006 19:48

It's true I feel so selfish but... At 3.30pm get a call that DP's sisters house has been burgled (or however you spell it). Naturally we're worried and his dad was here too so they went off round there leaving me with DD being a monkey.

It's now ten to eight and he's just texted after i've done tea for DD, bathed her, got ready for bed, stories, milk etc... Get yourself some tea not me i'm bringing myself takeaway home later!!! I am so pissed off! And I know it's kinda selfish because his sisters house is a mess now but she has a husband and her mum, dad, and two other brothers there along with DP! So much for my mw telling me to take things easy.

Makes it worse because he was out on Friday night and I did all DD and last night and I did all DD... And you know how it is they scream when one leaves etc and i'm left to pick up the pieces.

Sorry for being so selfish and mean but feeling sorry for myself.

trotskymow · 09/08/2006 19:54

Pol, if you ring him and tell him you need him home, will he come? Cry if necessary, if that works! After all, you are the mother of his child. Sorry, but I'd try pulling all sorts of emotional strings... Lay it on thick about what the midwife said too.

PS was claire, but saw the revolutionary post, so changed my name. Rather like it...!

mabel1973 · 09/08/2006 20:56

Hi all

oh claire - don't confuse me like that - I struggle to remember what day it is as it is!
POl - you have my sympathy. I know things like this are awful, but if your DH is anything like mine, they won't say no to anyone who asks for help / wants them to go for a pint etc.- which is nice, but somehow you always get left holding the baby. Maybe just ring him and say nicely - can you let me know when you're coming home as I really could do with putting my feet up' - play the tired, hormonal, aching pregnancy card (although I'm sure you really are tired hormonal and achey like the rest of us!)
Anyway - update on my feet - I managed to speak to a midwife this afternoon who was not particularly helpful and told me it was probably a 'hormonal rash' (I am beginning to think she's a man in discuise putting everything down to 'hormones'). And basically to leave it over the weekend to see if it got any worse.
I started a thread on it and had everything from ringworm to scabies diagnosed, so I got a bit freaked out by it. I am going to see how it is tommmrow, if it's no better I'll try and get an appointment at the doctors.

mabel1973 · 09/08/2006 21:07

Marls - I think i've registered with yahoo now to join the group, but not entirely sure!!! I am crap with stuff like this!

pol26 · 09/08/2006 21:10

Mabel- I would see your GP, at least then he/she has looked at it and diagnosed it properly rather than a random 'hormonal' rash...

DP home eventually and now eaten half of my tea- grrrrr!

calvemjoe · 09/08/2006 21:46

My god just about had a heart attack, stupid computer wouldn't load up mumsnet and I thought the worst had happened!

Stupid red box has got me all too, couldn't sleep last night cause I kept on getting too worked up about it . Feel like mumsnet is a lifeline and don't know how I'd cope without it, so, on that note MARLS APPROVE ME!

DH is due back on saturday from his 10 days away and I'm missing him so much. DS, however, is being a little star so at least I've had an easy week in that respect. Can't get over the fact that DH abandoned me the week before we move house, I'm packing like a maniac and he's out playing toy soldiers.

Mabel, go and see your GP tomorrow and get that rash checked out, If nothing else, you may get something to help with the itching.

Clairemow, you confused the hell out of me with your name change, I was like, who is this new person acting like they know us all then I realised it was you, and you did know us all!

Pol, make dp get you some nice pudding or something for stealing your tea.

Now, I don't want to make enemies, but I've only put on 14lbs......

Angeliz · 09/08/2006 21:50

Mabel, i'd get it checked out too tbh. Your midwife sounds a bit flippant if she only spoke to you on the phone.

I had dd2 awake from 12 till 4.30 last night. (She's 17 months btw) just standing up and generally not ASLEEP. Gave her calpol at 4 am as i thought it must be her teeth even though she didn't appear to be in pain! She getting alot of teeth all of a sudden. It is so hard to keep turning in bed for her though with my bump. My pelvis is KILLING me lately.

liquidclocks · 09/08/2006 23:00

Evenin' all! Hope everyone's had a good day. DS FINALLY when asked where the baby was pointed to the bump, then he went all giggly! cute

Mabel, I get where your m/w is coming from as usually itching in pg isn't anything to worry about in terms of baby's health BUT it should be checked out asap. Also most midwives I've met don't actually seem to know about PUPPP or prurigo gestationis.

When my rash was diagnosed as 'hormonal' (eventually PUPP) my m/w was next to useless - for some reason they're only bothered about your baby and your physical health, not your sanity. It took me sobbing in a heap and DH dragging me (physically) down to the delivery suite and demanding they do something to get any sort of help - that's where the eurax and hydrocortisone advice comes from. If it's really bothering you they can also prescribe some mild steroids and piriton (but I'm allergic). I wouldn' know all this unless I'd (well, DH) kicked up a stink so go do the same and get some relief! Because by the end I couldn't sleep with the itching they induced me too because that's the 'cure' - it kept me sane having an 'end date' set in stone.

One of the mst important things I've learned working for the NHS is this - "S/he who shouts the loudest gets the most/best/first treatment"

liquidclocks · 09/08/2006 23:38

Marls - just read your article, you sound like super-mum compared to me

And your DS is gorgeous!

Marls001 · 10/08/2006 02:35

Thanks, Liquid! Wish I felt more like Supermum these days ... Can't wait to see pics of you & family!
Sorry about the approving/not approving thing, coupled with the time discrepancy ...

ztt · 10/08/2006 06:12

please bear in mind you may not be able to post freely here in future

compo · 10/08/2006 08:52

Morning everyone. Sorry to hear about the itching Mabel - I would definitely see your gp.
at Calvenjoe only putting on 14lbs - I've put on 2 stone so far with 5 weeks left!!
The midwife just phoned. My iron level is now 10.6 - she's says I don't need iron tablets yet but they don't want it to drop any further. My platelets have dropped from 142 to 139 but she wasn't sure what it meant so was going to contact the doctor and get back to me later. She said it would mean that I can't use the birthing unit near where I live - I have lost count of the numnber of times i've said I want to go to the nearest hospital providing a full service just in case I want an epidural or need an emergency c- section... grrrr....

Bella23 · 10/08/2006 09:33

Morning everyone

Gosh scary news this morning, all this talk of terrorism is really unsettling

Calvenjoe - only 14 lbs??!! I can honestly say I have no idea, as soon as I got to 3 months I decided to stay away from the scales as I know it will just depress me otherwise!!

Compo - keep your irons levels up then, lots of broccoli and spinach

Well only tomorrow left and then I am free from work - hoorah!! I just can't wait!!

puppy · 10/08/2006 10:00

Morning

Red box - grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!! and sigh.

Marls I have requested to join too

Homemama sorry to heaqr you are sick again, not long now hopefully it will go once your lo is born.

NORMS where are you????????????????? [worried emoticon]

Hope you get the itching sorted mabel.

Calvem I too have only put on just over a stone, was getting quite worried but i have been measuring myself with a tape and put on 5 inch round waist, Lo must be growing.

Bella I darn't put on the news lately its all upsetting and unsettling.

Hows everybody sleeping? I have started getting up several times in the night due to heartburn and needing the toilet and SPD. Insomnia is starting to kick in too so have bought myself a coule of sue grafton books to read in the night.

Are you all ready? we have put cot up and disinfected it, hosp bag ready to go just need snacks for it. Going to get some arnica has anybody here used it? and I think thats it.

Bella23 · 10/08/2006 10:07

Puppy - not packed bag yet....oops!!
Have promised to sort it next week once I am off work. Need a major shop!
Heard great thinks about arnica so also might get some

trotskymow · 10/08/2006 10:30

hello all,

Who is ztt? See a few posts down..

Calemjoe, 14lb!!! Wow. I'm over the 2 stone extra mark now.

Mabel, I would go to the GP to get the rash looked at - can you just turn up or do you have to make an appointment. Maybe just turn up anyway and refuse to leave til someone sees you. I am getting bolshy in my old age... and with my new name...!!!

I saw the midwife this morning, and baby is 4/5 engaged (thought so, it feels really uncomfortable). Have packed bag, and it's ready to take with us to a wedding in the Midlands this weekend - got maps to hospital and everything just in case. DH under instruction about drinking (i.e. not to..) - he's a bit grumpy about that as it's his best mate from school. But I keep saying I am his wife and even more importantly, I am the incubator for DS2. Do you think I'll get on his nerves??!! I really don't think I'm going to get to 39/40 weeks - DS was born at 38, and this one's measuring 37 now...

Was also thinking about Norms, she hasn't been on for a while, and I haven't seen her on any other threads either.

mabel1973 · 10/08/2006 10:48

Hi everyone.
Thanks so much for your concern.
I had a really bad night last night with the itching, so i got an appointment 1st thing this morning. It has been diagnosed as a type of excema and I've been prescribed betnovate. It has relieved the itching already - thank goodness. I am just glad it's not scaboes or worse! He said it was probably brought on by pregnanacy but nobody knew why and it would prob clear up once the babies born.
I popped and got some tea tree oil and arnica yesterday, I have never used arnica before but I know a lot of people advise it for bruising. As for the tea tree my stitches got infected last time and I wasn't given any adice about how to care for my stitches til AFTER I got an infection, so determined to do tea tree baths twice a day from day 1!
Would also like to know what/ who the ZTT things is about? We already know we can't post freely where you know who is concerned....
