1B1B - I don't see why you couldn't have a water birth if you have a sweep. If the sweep works starts your labour off, then you would be fine to use the pool. Not sure about if it didn't work and you then went on the have an induction though.
I am planning a water birth and I know if I haven't had baby by thurs then midwife is planning a sweep prob on monday.

dreamydowler · 05/09/2006 12:23

Norms and Puppy, boys names are so difficult aren't they? I really like James and Alex and Puppy, I think Adam and Lucas are lovely. My nephew is also an Ethan.

We can't agree on many boys names either. Here are a few that DH has already rejected:
Toby
Duncan
Stuart
Thomas
He's being quite stubborn and only likes William, Edward or Ronald, whereas I love all the names above although Ronnie and Ted are cute I must admit.

homemama · 05/09/2006 13:09

Congratulations to Marls and MIAQ! Such great news. Enjoy!

Norms, Both James and Alexander sound good. I have a cousin called Alexander and he has always been known as Lex. We have no boys names yet. Finding it really difficult. For a girl I like Margaret, we'd call her Maggie or Elizabeth, we'd call her Lizzie. DH more keen on Elizabeth although he doesn't like Lizzie, he'd prefer Beth but I worry this sounds too girlie.
It'd be a bit mean of your DH to register the baby without you/your consent. I think my DH knows that's more than his life is worth.

A sweep is def not considered induction and don't worry about it being too early. I had one on my due date last time as I'd had on off niggly pains. It didn't hurt and within an hour my contractions had started properly. Some MWs aren't keen but I'm sure that I could have carried on for days in limbo so was very grateful.

Well I had lots of strong shooting pains last night and I have period like backache today. Hoping it's a good sign!

Angeliz · 05/09/2006 13:10

Congratulations to Marls, MIAQ and Claire

Hope you're all loved up and smelling those baby heads!!

homemama · 05/09/2006 13:11

Oh and 1B1B, I was asked if I wanted the pool last time and I'd had a sweep.

1Baby1Bump · 05/09/2006 13:33

oh good. i dont want to birth on dry land if i can help it as it would be like the first time over again.
i know what im doing in the pool and dh is a bit squeamish so pool suits us.
just worried that if sweep doesnt work they may want to induce me properly?

compo · 05/09/2006 13:54

Norms - would your dh really register your new lo with a name you hadn't approved off I'm very impressed that you're still working. I have to say I'm not over eager on leaving the house at the moment but worry that if I don't get a tiny bit of exercise the head won't engage or something - does anyone know if there is any truth in that?!!
We've read the new baby books to ds and told him about the baby being in mummy's tummy etc but don't think it has sunk in at all!!

pol26 · 05/09/2006 14:24

I'm away for one day and guess what- two of you pop!!!

Congratulations MIAQ and Marls!!! Yipee it really is all happening now. I'm sure everyone is so happy with their new babies.

Well done Homemama for getting your LO to do as it was told and turn round!

Well... my appointment yesterday was really a bit of a waste of time- spent three hours there and only saw trainee's- apart from the sonographer, which is ok as everyone has to learn but they were so unorganised and kept popping out of the cubicle for a tape measure, sonicad, gel, advice etc... And could hear the 'real' consultant next door sending three women for cs early and inducments! Why couldn't it be me??? I am still measuring 43 although i'm now 38 not 36... so I haven't actually grown. I told her about my fibroid on my scan and she was hopless at finding it in my notes. Anyhow she went out and asked 'real' consultant who told her that I wouls need a scan, then she comes back and says I need a scan appointment- then deadly silence... I say to her is she going to book it? and off she scuttles to book it.
I have my scan and all's ok. Forgot to double check it was a boy though...! Anyhow he is big, or so they say.
Went back to the trainee consultant and she said was 8lbs already by their measurements. Book a 41 week appointment if nothing has happened. Then the proper mw came in and said she would just double check measurements and examine me again. Asked if I had been going hard like I was often and I said yes. Told her I was having mucus practically everyday and pains, thinking this is it. She said she didn't think i'd make the 41 weeks appointment- I said not to say that as was told I wouldn't make the fourth!!! These mw keep getting my hopes up!

Off to see the GP mw tomorrow and feel abit of a fraud as I know alls ok but hospital said to still go just to be sure and keep my notes up to date! And now DP is back at work, will have to take DD and that WILL be fun!!!

liquidclocks · 05/09/2006 14:34

Norms - know what you mean - everyone keeps telling me to stop but I'd only get stressed out if I don't do the work, I'd be holding upmy whole team too if I don't finish so I'd only have to find time asap as soon as baby's born and thet's far less preferable! That's just the nature of project work ime - can't believe your DH would try and reister a name without you but my mum did it with my older brother - she and my dad had ageed on Gregory Daniel andshe went and registered him as Daniel Gregory! - How about Samuel, Nathaniel or Joel? (they were my other faves!)

Homemama - shortened versions for Elizabeth also include Libby and Lily, and I definitely don't think Beth is too girlie!

Well DH has come home early (still no mention of our anniversary tomorrow - poor guy, going to guilt trip him SO much!) and my meds are finally having some effect so a nice DS-free afternoon up ahead I hope!

Marls001 · 05/09/2006 15:57

Liquid - LOL; there might be a Jameson/James Alexander on both sides of the pond - forgot to mention hope you enjoyed your day out!!

Forgot also two other points of - I hope - comfort ...

First, DS1 absolutely adores DS2 so far [fingers crossed icon]; it's like we've brought him a pet. At hospital kept saying "He's so cute! Look at his little feet! I?m so glad he came out! Can I hold James again?" - and he had been one of those first children who were more fussy the last few pg months .. so you never know. He's really surprised us.

Second, did end up letting DH fully watch actual birth. He'd been so supportive of me (sometimes literally while I was having contractions in standing positions), and I knew he wouldn't be affected in a bad way, as he'd partially watched the last one.
He later told me it was just so amazing and that it isn't at all corresponding to anything sexual. He said, "imagine me down there, a different shape, size, and color ? you wouldn't even recognize what you normally see. It wasn't about that for me at all.? Then told me how proud of me he was. No regrets.

Have posted some pics on Yahoo!

compo · 05/09/2006 18:36

aw, what lovely pictures I want my lo to come now!!!

tassis · 05/09/2006 18:53

Been trying to get a second on the computer all day - at last!

CONGRATULATIONS MARLS!!! Thrilled for you! Sounds like it all went really well. I'm off to check out your pictures after I've written this. Can't wait to see your wee man. Lovely name.

Gizmo - hope the building work's going well and you've managed to acquire all the baby clobber that you need.

LC - well done for passing first year, great news.

Cori - Happy Birthday to your LO. Hope she had a lovely day.

Homemama - so great that your baby's moved. Thrilled for you. Love Margaret and Elizabeth and especially like Libby and Meg for short.

Myrtle - love Matilda, Mattie and especially Tillie.

How're you and Fraser doing Claire?

Welcome Nickiey and so sorry to read about your firstborn. Hope you're not too anxious.

Man alive, pol, your appointment sounds terribly frustrating and I can't believe you have to go back to Gp midwife tomorrow. Hope that's more straightforward.

Re older children, ds has been a bit clingy though it's hard to know how much of it is that he's so exhausted from pre-school nursery... He tends to crash by bedtime so we're getting him down a bit earlier than usual if we can. Otherwise there are lots of tears and he just gets past it. Wee lamb, I keep thinking how his world is about to change!

Slept badly last night, but a non-eventful day baby-wise...

liquidclocks · 05/09/2006 18:56

Marls - he's so lovely! (but don't worry, won't steal your name and will stick to original order! )

Puppy - can't see your pics? Am I just not looking properly?

tassis · 05/09/2006 18:57

Gorgeous, gorgeous pics Marls!

puppy · 05/09/2006 19:02

Liquid i am having to rejoin group and waiting for a mod to approve me - please don't ask why just that I had a hormonal strop earlier lol just had one with DH Too .
Feeling very highly strung at the moment don't know why.

liquidclocks · 05/09/2006 19:11

You're approved puppy - hope the hormonal strop wasn't at us! I'm feeling quite highly strung too - definitely time for LO's to think about moving on down!

puppy · 05/09/2006 19:12

Awwww thanks liquid, nope not at anyone, feeling very silly.

puppy · 05/09/2006 19:21

Ok pics are back on site, poor DH had got the brunt of it, DS has been a proper little tinker today which hasn't helped. ok back to cheery bubbly me .

puppy · 05/09/2006 19:25

Marls your DS's are adorable, DS2 looks so alert for a newborn hope you are not too sore .

Coriander73 · 05/09/2006 19:49

Hey,

Have had very strange day today - had a funny turn in Sainsbury's mid-mornng so much so I had to sit in car park for 40 mins as I was just dizzy & shaking too much. Anyhow went to see MW who said my BP had dropped quite a bit but everything else was normal...head very much engaged etc so just sit tight! Still popping the iron pills (which are foul) but generally just feel out of sorts...MW did say it could be that body is gearing up for labour in it's own way. I dont know what to make of it all as with DD (who had a lovely day yday thanks to you all for asking!! ) I had a show at 40 + 2 & the rest they say is history.

Marls, just watched some hysterical New Yorker trying to give birth in a pool no pain relief assisted by a MW...she was really hysterical I tell you & the DH kept saying that she was having a panic attack & she said not & then she looked as though she'd pass out..I tell you not good for me!! I have made a conscience decision to give up watching these bloody birth stories & try & focus on being positive & my natural delivery....she says hopefully!!!

I love the name Alexander by the way..but DH poo pooed it as we know a few Alex's etc. So for a boy it'll be Jack Christopher (after DH (the Christopher that is!!) for a girl Imogen Margaret (after MIL!)....so watch this space I guess!

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations to all that have their babys, am very for you, but also very

I think we have finally decided on names now but it has not been easy as DP is not English and we wanted to include Hungarian into the name. So we have for a boy Adam Akos (Akos is said Akosh and is DPs name) and for a girl Rebecca Erzsébet (Erzsébet is translated to Elizabeth).

Think this LO is going to hang on in there as long as it can! Haven't had any contraction type pains yet (going on other peoples descriptions of what they are like) but get sharp pains shooting down through my cervix more and more, feels like it trying to claw its way out! so not sure if this means anything got my fingers crossed.

Take care everybody x
