That is disgusting! The point of semen towards the end of pg is to loosen up (if needed) the cervix not your gut....I was eating when I read that...feel postively sick now

Eeeuuuughh!!!! Nuff said!

Liquid, thanks for the nipple stuff! Can you imagine nipple tweaking for 2 hours?! - I think I'd go into labour to avoid the pain of it!!!

Been swimming again today, managed 20 lengths - desperate times call for desperate measures...

DS come home from nursery today exhausted, keeps crying, early to bed I think... then I'm going to have a glass ov vino, or maybe even 2...

Pol, you are v. generous to your DD for her birthday! I am so stingy! She'll have a great time!

Ok, real screaming upstairs now and Daddy getting mad. Better go and try to spread oil on troubled waters... (or hopefully broken waters??!!!)

liquidclocks · 30/08/2006 18:31

Sorry Vindy's right - it's in that article I've linked to. However - I'd rather have a section at 42 wks

compo · 30/08/2006 18:39

Marls - as far as I know we only have a membrane sweep over here when we are overdue and to get labour going so not sure why they would suggest it before the due date?
Clairemow - ds is the same after nursery - absolutely wiped out as he doesn't have a nap there any more. But the day after he has a lovely 3 hour nap at home which is bliss for me!!
No action for dh at all He has been sleeping in the new baby's room because my many trips to the loo and trying to get comfy in bed keeps him awake!!

liquidclocks · 30/08/2006 18:46

Right - will leave the medline search for now as I've found that there was a recent cochrane review here . This will be a review of all the relevent literature on the subject so unless you want specifics it's probably not worth going into the original pieces. This link's to a summary - let me know if you want the full report and can't get to it (can't remember if you need a password or not). Iwas told that membrane sweepsbefore term are not usually effective anyway and when I had one last time at 39+2 it was very uncomfortable and didn't work (I was desperate becasue of the PUPPP so was willing to try most things - vindy's idea excluded!). Hope that's of help Marls!

clairemow · 30/08/2006 18:54

compo, that's exactly the problem DS has with nursery now, he was the only one there still taking a nap, and now he's realised he might be missing out on some fun... and refuses. He's there Weds and Thurs, so tomorrow night will be even worse!!! However, it did mean that last Friday he slept in til 8.20 in the morning... So maybe there are compensations.

Been reading Liquid's article - 15 minutes of continual stimulation on each nipple each hour for several hours. If I start now, DH can take over in half an hour, and we can do shifts!!! Like the note about Vindy's comment - "It is thought that prostaglandins are absorbed more efficiently through the gut than through the vagina. (Note: you may prefer to keep this piece of information to yourself.)". Er, yes.

And I'm not sure I can fit into my best knickers any more, so that one's out too.

DH says "just be patient". Grrr!!!!

Marls001 · 30/08/2006 19:10

Liquid - Thanks for the offer ... might be good to get as much info as possible ...

Compo - I understand; will be at exactly 39 weeks tomorrow. Apparently Dr. doesn't want baby to get any bigger than he already is (risk of C-section); also doesn't want my blood pressure to get out of control over this last week, given my history with DS1. Since DS1 came (naturally) 5 days early, he's guessing I'm about ready anyway - but, wouldn't want him to do it (& I don't think he would) if tomorrow my body's obviously not ready ... will discuss w/him at appt. after he checks me! [nervous icon]

Coriander73 · 30/08/2006 19:12

Still yuk...!!!! As for all this talk of nipple tweaking etc...will you all stop it!!!!!! Curry, pineapple, hot bath, bumpy roads....sounds better doesn't it?!...(yu can tell it's been a while eh Liquid?!) I think I'm feeling the effects of the bloody iron pills I've been prescribed. They are making me feel so queasy & out of sorts so MW has suggested just one every other day & at night rather than in the morning.

DD didn't sleep at all today at nursery & was just so tearful by the time we got home & clingy. Have just put her down & sang to her (well I was ordered..Mummy star (i.e twinkle!!) & she's fast asleep). She moves up into the big room come Monday as soon as she turns two....they have sleep mats in there as opposed to their own individual travel cot in the baby room so it'll be interesting to see how she copes as she still needs at least 40-60 mins or so during the day....

Marls001 · 30/08/2006 19:13

Forgot to add, Claire & Liquid - My mind is on it much of the time too (especially considering how good DH is looking ) ... but then my body recoils.

Definitely not fitting into my best lingerie .

Uh, oh ... another headache coming on ... hopefully not a major one.

clairemow · 30/08/2006 21:52

Marls, good luck tomorrow, and I hope the headache subsides.

Cori, when DS moved to a new room at nursery with little mats, he actually started sleeping better and longer as they all went to sleep together and had quiet music etc. I think the staff also helped those that needed it, eg by rubbing their backs. Now the problem is that he's the youngest and the only one who still sleeps at all at home as well, and he doesn't want to be in a room on his own with his little bed while they all play! I bet your DD will be just fine. Fingers crossed for you.

PS nipple tweaking rota went out the window (!!!), although DH seemed keen on the other idea - I told him no way, it isn't his birthday.

Marls001 · 31/08/2006 03:29

LOL, Claire!

This headache has turned out even worse than the last one & is still with me. I swear if labor felt like this I'd go for the epidural, definitely. Went to check bp numbers & both systolic & diastolic were (this afternoon) 30 points above normal. Have had the codeine but pain is still existing underneath it. Will try to sleep now (9:30 pm) ... At least Dr. appointment is first thing tomorrow morning, and DH is working from home again - to that!!

Marls001 · 31/08/2006 03:30

(Meant LOL on nipple tweaking ... )

pol26 · 31/08/2006 09:32

Had an awful night last night, I think DD has just discovered nightmares! I was up and down all night long to her and in between the loo... Well and truly cheesed-off.

Also tried baby seat in car and rather tight as DD's seat is in front as we have no air bag. DP has been on about getting one that fits in the back, as one in front doesn't but hasn't for a year... Now is the time otherwise baby will think it's in a rollercoaster seat as I try and squeeze him in the back So we have that to do today and car tax too! It never rains...

And for some odd reason DP is dragging me out to the carboot that is on the 'carbooty' programme... how sad is that? Not really looking forward to it but grinning and bearing it as it may start my labour- all this racing about.

As for the bj's- there would be no chance of DP getting that!!! Just my toothbrush makes me gag

liquidclocks · 31/08/2006 10:00

Oh, feeling guilty now - I had a really nice evening. Dh went out for 'chippy' chips (I've been craving) and we had lovely dinner, then we had an aromatherapy bath together and then... well, it resulted in an hour and half's worth of contractions which led to.... nothing! (but at least he made me !

Marls, so sorry you're suffering again, I hope it goes away overnight and you feel better as you're reading this post!

Pol, poor DD! and poor you of course - DS has been having nightmares for a few months now on and off - we just go in and give him a cuddle and put him back down - I feel awful because he cries when we leave the room but we've tried staying and that doesn't work either. SOmetimes he hasnight terrors too and then there'snothing you can do, you have to leave them but it's horrid to watch him as he looks so scared and upset - we can generally avoid those by making sure he get's enough sleep though.

About car seat - hope you find one - I loved the 'stay put' car seats for newborns - so cosy and soft compared to a lot of the carriers, expecially lked the concord ultimax but we couldn't get t because it got buckle crunch in my car Have gone for a creatis now as the lap belt goes underneath so you can leave it strapped in if you want to (and it was the cuddliest and softest!).

Hope everyone's OK - we just need to make it to tomorrow to get them in the next school year!

clairemow · 31/08/2006 10:16

No need to feel guilty, Liquid! Sounds like you had a lovely time, and then all that excitement of some contractions!! I am beginning to think that this baby is just going to gestate like an elephant for a year, getting bigger and bigger.

Marls, poor you. It does sound as though your body needs to have the baby, with your raised pressure and headache. Let us know how you get on.

Pol, don't envy you the carboot! Or the nightmares... DS has had some night terrors too, mostly when he's really tired. They are really weird, he sits up screaming, but clearly isn't awake. I've read you shouldn't wake them, so we gently lay him down and leave. He also went through a phase of being scared in the dark if he woke up in the night - one of those little plug in nightlights put a halt to that in one very very easy step - so he now has his "special light that keeps him safe" on every night. No wakings since. You could try that with DD, as it might be fear of the dark rather than a nightmare? Does she say anything to you when she wakes? He used to say "light on, light on" so it was pretty clear!

We haven't heard from Appyday for a few days since she came out of hospital - anyone seen her anywhere else on the site? hope all is well...

mabel1973 · 31/08/2006 11:37

honestly - I go away for a few hours and the conversation turns to swallowing and nipple tweaking - you lot are disgusting

Marls - prob no use now, as I assume you will have been to see your doctor, but my midwife told me the optimum time for a sweep is 41 weeks, before that the cervix isn't soft enough and it won't work. Last time I had a sweep at 40 weeks plus 4 days and again at plus 9 days (which started my labour).
Does anyone know if having your waters broken artificially makes your contractions worse? I just wondered afetr Liquid said hers were continuous after she'd had hers broken last time, because that's how mine were.
I managed to get up for five wee's last night, that is a record for me - so V. tired this morning.
We did get the carpet down in the nursery yesterday though, which meant we could move the furniture in there at long last.
Moved DS's cot out of his room and DH made up his 'big bed' which he slept in last night. I think because he'd already got used to sleeping in his cot without the sides on he didn't really notice the difference and he slept fine til 7ish this morning - RESULT!

1Baby1Bump · 31/08/2006 11:58

ladies!! see my thread 'is 1b1b in labour?'
what ya reckon?

Coriander73 · 31/08/2006 12:27

Mabel, that's great news about your DS! I had got myself so worked up about moving DD into new room, toddler bed & duvet etc....suffice to say it's been a breeze..she loves it in there & loves her big bed for a big girl as she calls it... Clairemow, thanks for the encouragment re sleeping at nursery...

Liquid, so no complaining then last night?!!! I do wonder what you must be like when you're not pregnant??!!! It's our 4th wedding anniversary today (we've been together for 10 years)& we're actually going out for a meal & a very large glass of champagne I can tell you!! I really don't think there will be any marital activity...but hey ho I'll keep you all posted..ha Treated myself to a pedicure this morning.....I've become very flat footed as the only shoes I can bear are my flipflops / birkenstocks etc - what I'd give to put on my caterpillar boots again with a pair of jeans!!!!

OP posts:
liquidclocks · 31/08/2006 13:12

Mabel- sorry it was me lowering the tone, I caught sight of the thread on blow jobs yesterday and remembered the link btw them and bringing on labour - Well doneon your stealth tactics for changing beds, will have to try that!

Btw, the midwife who came to see me at home told me that labour/contractions after an artificial ruptue of membranes (ARM) tends to be more painful, she said the contractions are more intense and closer together so you don't get the 'rest' bit between them to compose yourself for the next one - I just wish they'd told me before they did it - this time it's in my birth plan that if I need and ARM or a syntocin drip that they've to give me an epidural first (midwife said to write this so assume it's ok to do that).

Off to look up 1b1b's thread...

liquidclocks · 31/08/2006 13:14

PS, Cori - I'm notas bad when not pg, must be the extra hormones! poor DH...

And CONGRATULATIONS!!! on your anniversary, enjoy your champagne!

compo · 31/08/2006 13:19

Ooh very excited about 1B1B - and also a tiny bit !!!! Good luck honey
Cori - it's mine and dh's 4 year wedding anniversary just after my due date - wonder if I'll make it
Went to see the midwife today. I'm officially 38weeks+2days but I'm measuring 37 weeks so hope that doesn't mean I'll be overdue. She says baby is 4/5ths engaged but head hasn't dropped completely and baby is currently back to back. She said I need to sit up straight and crawl around on the floor when playing with ds (really don't feel like doing that at the moment - takes me ages to get up!!). Anyone have any experiences of back to back?

liquidclocks · 31/08/2006 13:26

OMG - first I forget my knickers and now you've just reminded me it's MY wedding anniversary on the 6th too - how could that have slipped my mind!? -what do you all think, shall I remind DH or see if he remembers?

Glad 1b1b's DH is with her now, won't worry about her pushing baby out on her own alone... wow - more babies!!!

pol26 · 31/08/2006 14:38

Cori- well done on your anni! Have a nice time...

Car boot was hellish... will not be doing it again and even DP said it was crap... i'm sorry but nearly all the stuff there should've just gone to the dump.

Haven't got the carseat today- a job for tomorrow... the one one that will fit is the britax first class as all others have buckle crunch in our back. DD's old carseat won't fit in the back either and although the new one does the seat has to be so far forward in the front and also its so tight I can't physically put it in without a fight and no good with a tiny baby in it! DP can't even work it out tho, let alone put it in or out so we're going to have fun; aren't we???!!!

Any news on any more babies? I feel all achey and heavy down there with lots of tugging but no news- booooooo hooooo

Also going to see a house tonight although don't hold out much hope as not too sure about the area so just going for a peek but £50 less a month than we are paying renting and we would own half of it, as its part buy/part rent... and it's three beds rather than the two we thought we could only afford (although this is 3 bed we have no chance of buying it! or one similar)... Wish us luck.

homemama · 31/08/2006 14:39

Hi everyone!
I have family stay for a few days, come back and this thread is like porn!

Glad you're all well and that 1B1B is on her way (or rather her lo is!) I can't believe it's just a few more hours until Sept!

About the poo thing! I told DH beforehand that this is what all women do (not strictly true I know but mw said high % so wanted to prepare him) He just accepted it which was good as I did and I was leaning over the bed with my bum in the air so it couldn't have been a pretty sight! He said afterwards that it was no big deal and that he was totally awe struck by what else my body was doing so it in no way put him off me.

As for nookie, I can't get enough at the moment. I don't remember feeling this randy when due with DS but DH is very impressed and it helps me sleep.

My hospital bag is now packed and the only thing I've included that I don't think was mentioned are a packet of detol wipes. IME, hospitals are not the most hygenic of places. Although as I'm having a CS this time I will also take a book or two. The acupuncture made me very sick last week so I'm just having reflexology tomorrow. I'm enormous so I don't see that baby has any room to turn but I haven't given up hope.

pol26 · 31/08/2006 14:47

I didn't poo last time but DP joked if I did he wanted it weighed and named... I didn't see the funny side.
