pol26 · 29/08/2006 19:40

I worried last time about poo-ing during labour but didn't and am hoping this time I don't either... it would be very
DP saw it all last time and I was in too much pain to care! Only really thought about it now.

Coriander73 · 29/08/2006 19:44

Hmm....we're all getting that bit closer aren't we? I've also had the trots & this evening feel oddly out of sorts...have what feel like bad period pains but not BH I think. DH is winding me up so I keep saying silly things like "I'll go into labour tonight if you're not careful"...I mean what is the point of saying that??!!

Decided that I must have thrown out some of DD's muslins so am off to buy some more tm...because you can never have enough can you? Other than that I think the bag is done... I do remember taking gloucose tablets in last time & eating them....so might pick up some more perhaps? As for birth etc....am sticking with a VBAC but by God I'm getting scared as the date approaches..!! I'm trying not to watch anymore of those TV births etc but in a strange way they are very addictive.....silly me really. I think DH would prefer me to have a pre-elective but I've got to give it my best shot for varying reasons that I'm sure we've all discussed a million times before now!! However I will be glad once it's out as my pubic bone feels like someone has taken an axe to it everytime I try & turn in the night...let alone the weeing a 5 pence worth of urine...& wouldn't you all just love to sleep on your tummies again??!!!!

Liquid, I don't know how you even have the urge now!!!! I will try everything but sex to get this baby out....it's a funny feeling really as I, like all of you I'm sure (!) do love my share of sex / orgasms but hell, nothing could be further from my mind...the very thought has me reaching for the sick bucket...poor DH....

Liquid - I was in a hospital gown open at the back, so may as well have been ... I suppose I could rebel & wear my own big shirt this time! ... but in the end, aagh - no pun intended - well, everyone's concentrating there ... right?
Where's that thread? I'd like to put my 2 cents in ...

The only four things in my hospital bag I haven't seen yet on the lists are: iPod & charger; cell phone; list of people to call from hospital (if we feel like it); cash & change for food & drink machines.
I will be adding tea tree oil!
Cori - glucose tablets are a good idea. I'm using something called "Goo" - similar; supposed to digest quickly. Marathoners use them during their long runs (& this is as close to a 23-miler as I'll get).

Claire - Did both, last time. More vomiting than the other. DH did stay at the correct end of things, but admits it was "so fascinating" he'd forget from time to time ... but then he's never seen that birth experience in the way I do, & has never lost any respect for me - I am honestly amazed by that. We have the last birth on videotape (DH took "PG" version), believe it or not. DH was just so overjoyed by the experience ... but I will never watch it. Tried to, and just horrified at the sounds I was making. New rule for DH: video camera not welcome until baby is out and cleaned, and even then, don't think about pointing it at me.

Last time we also had "bag for taking home gifts" - but as we're new to Arkansas, just going to order a cake for ourselves and have done with it. ... but also .

Compo - Totally understand where you're coming from; doesn't sound horrid; even my own parents weren't allowed in until everyone was cleaned up - and then I sent them back out straightaway for food!

1Baby1Bump · 29/08/2006 21:34

thanks for your lists and suggestions.
will add shirt for dh and camera. did anyone say that?
carrier bags, breast pads, blanket.

had ds in pool so am hoping for same again. dh was at the business end!!
i didnt want him to be before we went in but when i was in the throes of it i didnt care. i wanted to see!!

pol26 · 29/08/2006 22:32

Good night ladies,

glad we've all got pur bags ready! We really are getting eager to meet our LO's!

Just been reading advice on the childbirth thread and laughing at things i've forgotten- such as forgetting the concept of time and day and night!!! Dreading that first night of wailing and not knowing whether to feed, burp or change and feeling so paniced... Will I feel like that with number two???!!! The fear of being left with no mw on call! And then having to get up with DD!!!

But I am secretly looking forward to that whole newborn and totally dependant on their mummy! I loved that with DD and hope that the two of them DD and LO will get on together. She keeps kissing the bump but i'm not too sure she would if she 'really' knew what was inside!

liquidclocks · 29/08/2006 22:58

Pol - DS points to my bump and says 'baby' - really don't think he gets it though, I think he just thinks mummy's tummy is called a baby - confusing for a nearly two year old!

btw, homemama, think it was you but someone posted a poem way back called 'I am toddler' - DH has been asking if you knew who wrote it, we both love it!

Marls, at your own peril(kept it nice so far though, but maybe my most recent post was abit much, oops) - scaring off the newbies with BF/FF fights

Night all!

puppy · 30/08/2006 10:02

I see alot of you are taking raspberry leaf where can I get the tablet from? can't even contemplate sex with the spd - ouch!

Woodelf I am the same I am so short tempered, I think the tiredness and spd is contributing to it aswell as the hormones.

Will have to read your thread liquid, lol at you forgetting knickers.

In my case I have also put disposable toilet wipes to clean the toilet before I use it. Thinking of getting some quilted toilet paper for home aswell as the hospital.
Also a pair of jogging bottoms to wear under my nightie for modesty.

Tassis glad your ds enjoyed his first day at nursery , my ds is excited about starting next week , got all his uniform but I can not find a sky blue pe t-shirt anywhere!! so I think I will buy white till i come across one.

19 days to go till due date!!!!

DebbsyandBibby · 30/08/2006 10:10

Sorry to crash ladies but have any of you heard from Bella?

puppy · 30/08/2006 10:17

Hi Debbsy, I haven't seen her about since her post on the 12th August, hope shes ok.

DebbsyandBibby · 30/08/2006 10:27

thanks puppy

clairemow · 30/08/2006 10:35

hi Puppy, I got my raspberry leaf tablets from Holland & Barratt. got the strongest ones!!!

No movement here at all. I keep getting emails from the people at my doctor's antenatal classes about arrivals, and some of them weren't due until after me! It's not fair.

Debbsy, if you hear from Bella, please let us know, we were asking about her just a few days ago...

DebbsyandBibby · 30/08/2006 10:43

i will im going to post a thread now

mabel1973 · 30/08/2006 11:11

Hi

liquid - just checked your thread this morning. It has kept reasonably calm for MN!
Although I thought the comparison between discussing the negative effects of smoking and formula feeding, quite incredible! What planet are some people on. Surely there are no positive effects of smoking????
Also it was me that posted the 'I am toddler' poem - someone sent it to DH on an e-mail, I've no idea where it came from or who wrote it i'm afraid.

clairemow · 30/08/2006 11:42

Liquid, I think your other thread has stayed remarkably calm and focussed, and I've really enjoyed reading it. It made me remember why I like it on here.

Can someone tell me exactly what is a "troll" - is it someone who's changed their name for a thread and then goes on to wind it up? There was someone on my breastfeeding someone else's baby thread recently who got accused of being a troll - that thread did manage to stay mostly on track thankfully, but I had to think really heard about the OP and what I said in the question...!

liquidclocks · 30/08/2006 13:06

I meant to say Clairemow that I thought that was a really intersting question you posed a while back. In someways I wish there'd been a milk bank here for DS then he would have got some breastmilk.

I'm very impressed with how long my thread has stayed nice (haven't checked it since early this morning thoug, will go back soon, hope I'm not disappointed). The comparison to do with smoking though had to be answered - I hope I did it in a non-argumentative way! As a health professionalt there are only 2 situations in which I've ever advocated smoking - once to a terminally ill patient (not lung disease) for whom giving up would have just caused stress and wouldn't have helped, and very occasionally in psychiatry where extra pressure can lead to a breakdown in a person's condition.

Mabel - that's a shame about the poem - DH is printing out a copy to stick on the fridge I think!

Lying awake at 4am last night after getting up to fill a thimble full I was thinking about whether it might be useful to put together a brief list of the very common conditions newborns are prone to getting for the first timers among you (and as a refresher for the rest of us). I was remebering 1b1b's experience and a lady who was in the bed opposite me in hospital - the midwife came to her just before she was about to go home and told her that her DD had jaundice and she'd need to stay in for phototherapy. About half an hour later I heard the lady crying and I asked her what was up as I find it impossible to ignore someone that upset - she said she'dno idea what jaundice was and did it mean her baby was seriously ill? I explained what I knew and reassured her but felt angry with the midwife for not explaining properly. So I've put together some links that I hope will be helpful and if you encounter any of these things you'll already have an idea of what's going on and hopefully avoid getting anxious them (it probably depends on what books you buy whether you've already got a lot of the info).

Jaundice
Cradle Cap
Reflux (this site is primarily about BF but scroll down for useul info on GERD )
Colic
Crying (Ok, so not a medical condition but this is a useful 'checklist' site!)

How to tell when to get help

I don't know if anyone else can think of other things it's useful to know before baby comes?

ezridax · 30/08/2006 13:45

Claire - LOL! i'm soooo glad other people have the same fears as me. With the whole looking while baby 'emerges' and pooing whilst doing it. I thought i was the only one who thought this. When i say to people that i want my husband my head end people are like 'well he put it in there'.
I don't know about them but there wasn't a giant head coming out of it at the the time, a possibility that i'd have a crap and he wasn't looking at it for cripes sake!
I'm sorry but it's like what planet were you and ur kids born on!

I've just had my first raspberry leaf capsule - how anyone can drink it in tea form i don't know the capsules are foul.

I love this thread you all make me feel normal.

Oh and that people aren't mentally prepared for their baby - i so feel like this, every so often i say to myself 'i'm having a baby' half statement half question. What the heck am I going to do with a baby.
I must stop talking now because if i don't i'll write an essay

ezridax · 30/08/2006 13:48

LC -thanks for your last post as first time mum i think that this will be helpful

Vindy · 30/08/2006 14:38

Definately - as first time mum I think this will be useful. There's loads of info about pregnancy and birth with classes etc. but much less about the first few weeks. I've been wondering about jaundice

Also worried about the image of head etc. from my more intimate areas...Mmmmm DH says he's determined to stay up head end so we'll see.

liquidclocks · 30/08/2006 14:41

Another generally useful to us all link:

Ways to get labour going

Clairemow - there's details there on how to do the nipple tweaking! have fun...!

pol26 · 30/08/2006 15:03

Liquid- my DD points to my huge belly and goes 'bayee' and kisses it. Which is cute but... she also points at fat men/women and shouts out 'bayee' which is going to get me into trouble! She has no idea that this 'bayee' is coming to stay forever and will take up time and effort and CRY lots probably!

Went and brought DD's birthday present today- after much deliberation have really put the cat amongst the pigeons and brought her the wooden garage from the ELC. Yes, she's a girl but loves cars! in-laws are left perplexed and a bit put out as it's a 'boys toy'... So what she loves my sisters boys garage- in fact she plays with nothing else and loves lining up his cars. So got that and a few cars to go with it, along with two new touchy feely books, pair of Dora pj's, a unicorn handbag (mummy liked it more ) and going to get her a pair of wellies... oh and DP got her a bubble machine too. All I need now is a rainforests worth of wrapping paper and a card for her.

We have my sisters twins birthday this weekend too which i'm apprehensively going to as it's a two.5 hour drive away and of course my due date is imminent- it would be sods law to go into labour up there... going to be taking my bag, notes and carseat just in case...

p.s. loved the bring on labour guide '...wear your best knickers, you're guarenteed to have your waters break in them...' We'll all be getting our best knickers out now.

liquidclocks · 30/08/2006 15:11

Just caught sight of the blow job thread - only on MN, honestly!!! I can confidently say my DH will NOT be getting lucky anytime soon, at least until he puts out especially as I caught him 'entertaining' himself (as cori so delicately puts it!) in the shower the other morning , not fair when I'm dropping fairly strong hints!

Sorry, obsessed

Bring on the baby - then I'll stop thinking about it - he'll have no chance until christmas at least!

pol26 · 30/08/2006 15:24

I think I would love a bit of 'rumpy-pumpy' but DP and my paths never seem to cross- i'm in bed before him and fast asleep too. Would like some, if only to see if it brings on this baby than for pleasure, although once LO is here, like you liquid can't see us getting to it before Crimbo.

Marls001 · 30/08/2006 16:05

Advice please!! After doing a bit of Internet research, have been having second thoughts on getting membrane stripping done tomorrow morning ... afraid it'll either bring it right on (Mom won't be here yet) or that it'll cause a longer labor ... any feedback?

Thanks!

liquidclocks · 30/08/2006 16:12

Marls, will have a look for you on pubmed/medline later on if you like.

BTW - word of caution on that page I linked to - really really don't try the castor oil one - one of the side effects I've heard of is that women can get prolonged contraction with no breaks at all - a medically induced labour would be safer and more manageable.

DS running riot, going to have to bite the bullet and go for a walk to give him some excercise (it's like having a puppy!)

Vindy · 30/08/2006 16:13

I read somewhere that the hormones in semen are better absorbed through your gut so tried it this weekend but remembered why I don't normally swallow. Ugggh..and of course, it didn't work. (Does anything?)

LC - I'm with you. i can't stop thinking about it.

Sorry don't know anything about membrane sweeping
