liquidclocks · 26/08/2006 20:35

Pol - ring the labour ward, in my area they actively encourage people to do this because they'd rather be bothered than have people worried! It'll take them two ticks to measure you up and reassure you a bit, that's nothing to them compared to the extra hours added to your labour because you're sressed out! Besides - we can all pull the over-anxious pg woman routine now can't we?

Marls001 · 27/08/2006 02:10

Liquid - too bad about the over-opinionated ... even in person among other moms everyone should understand there's no right answer. Haven't had time to post or read at all outside this thread - Currently in hyper-preperatory mode. Poor DH will have taken DS alone to three different birthday parties - where he doesn't know a soul - by the time we're through; going to another one tomorrow. DH has pretty much taken over this weekend. Setting up the swing & bouncers, co-sleeper, everything.

Hard to find what to eat these days; never had to be on a low-salt diet. Any suggestions? Am disappointed can't have caffeine; surprised that beer has so much less sodium than milk! (Beer: 18 mg/12oz; milk: 190mg/12oz!)

Anyone else feeling hormonal/irritated?

pol26 · 27/08/2006 09:54

Marls I can fully understand how irritated you feel... I have been up for half an hour and had a full blown cry and feel miserable... just fed up with my lot, which is ridiculous really. Cried because DP was taking DD round to his mums. Cried because he said I should stay at ome and rest. Cried because he had left the lights on down stairs and not flushed the loo. Crying in general... God i'll be glad when these pregnancy hormones end!

clairemow · 27/08/2006 14:15

hormonal and irritated, oh yes!! When we woke up this morning, DH said oh can't you go and get the tea today - I said, maybe a bit shortly, "no. you sleep all night. I just get up and down to pee and then produce bugger all". that was that, he went. Poor DH. Then this morning he took DS on a bike ride while I went and kind of floated in the slow lane in the pool, and now he's gone to buy stuff to make beef wellington for tea while DS is asleep. I am left with mumsnet and Harry Potter to read. Nice.

Liquid, know what you mean about the BF/FF thing. People do get really irrate about it. I always find myself mysteriously drawn to those debates, but rarely contribute as I'm scared someone will shout at me. And the same for any of the threads about routine... As you know, I'm a fan of routine (but always have been for myself, not just for a baby) - get scared by those threads sometimes too, and always read my posts about 5 times before I hit send... just in case I might offend someone!

Marls, does low salt just mean you should be not adding salt to anything like your veg etc. or do you have to be looking for specific low salt foods? I have no idea!

I've had quite a few pains and things today, but nothing of any consequence. Getting a bit fed up really, as I feel so slow and awkward, and the baby is just sitting on my bladder.

1B1B, I had that cracking pelvis last night as well!!! I was so glad you'd mentioned it, as I would have been petrified if I hadn't read your post, so thanks!! Weird when you literally creak your way across the room...!!

clairemow · 27/08/2006 14:17

Marls, if you don't want to drink alcholic beers, is non-alc beer the same re. sodium? The Becks non-alc beer is quite nice...!!

pol26 · 27/08/2006 14:59

I can empathise with the sleeping/pee-ing issues too. Getting up 2/3 times while DP is happily snoring away, it makes me so cross and grumpy. Not to mention jealous!

pol26 · 27/08/2006 15:06

Also feeling worried about getting my routine in order too! DD has always been 'well regenmented' which has caused some arguments with in laws and friends as they thought I was too strict with times to the last letter. But she was a great baby and slept through from 7 weeks- while their babies didn't also for my sanity- you need some down time without a baby attached to you. My rule was: during the day, you can have me as much as you want/need etc... but come night time it's mummy's time. It worked and she accepted it. Some night when new born it was a snatched hour to have a bath but now it's from 7pm until 7am. You need it and I would imagine even more so when you have two or more children. Some ppl take offence to how I was- feeding after three hours on the dot etc... but I wasn't asking them to do it with their baby and she was MY baby which I think some ppl do forget (MIL particualrly)

Worrying about how to make baby fit in with DD, even though she has a good routine food and sleep wise hoping to get them both down between 2-4pm so I can rest then too. [fingers crossed emoticon]

tassis · 27/08/2006 17:20

mandaz hope your BP stays down

1B1B how's the pelvis crnching been this weekend? have you seen aphysio? might it be worth requesting one?

coffeeandcake welcome! I've had SPD this pregnancy too though thankfully pretty mild (also got a 3 year old ds to chase around!). Thankfully I got a physio appt v promplty and can go back whenever. Have been wearing a tubi-grip round my bump that's helped a bit.

petrified - don't be shy!

homemama - hope it's not too exhausting have visitors

pol - You're being treated really badly, it might be time to get stroppy.

tiddler - welcome; I'm glad you found us!

compo - I think you're right re Belle23, I'm sure there were 3 babies born in July...

marls, glad the migraine passed Ok. Wow at your dh doing 3 b'day parties! think mine (who is generally fnatastic!) might die!!

liquid good info re Vit K, I think we're going to go for the injection again this time.

clairemow hope you're managing to get some rest after your visitors. our ds was like yours - very sleepy and slow to gain weight. i had to sit and feed for Britain for 24 hours at about day 10 or they were going to make us go back into hospital...

Only downside of the Argos ball is if you're tall. I'm nearly 6 foot and it's a bit small for me. My knees end up at a funny angle. I know the more expensive ones come in different sizes.

Had a lovely weekend. Baby Shower on Friday night was v spoiling and lovely to be out with lots of great girl friends. Had 2 best friends stay over on Fri night so went out for lovley brunch on Sat while dh took ds off. Real treat.

tassis · 27/08/2006 17:41

Well it wasn't Bella23 but LexyB who was the 3rd Sept baby to be born (in July!). Lexy posted on another thread on 22nd August to say that her dd was home and doing well. Great news, Lexy!

Bella on the other hand hasn't posted since 12th August so now I'm a bit worried about her. Hope she's OK.

Here's the updated list with tiddler and LexyB added...

liquidclocks · 27/08/2006 17:51

A baby shower?! I never had one of those...

Shouldn't complain though - we were inundated with gifts for DS when he was born, kind of hoping not so much for this one as I wouldn't have space!

Clairemow - I had so many disapproving comments from friends about trying to get DS in aroutine but it suited us all SO well, it's the sort of people we are and made/makes the days I'm ill bearable because I know that no matter what I get SOME time to myself to rest and recover. Funnily enough for me my mum was so supportive of what we did and somehow because she supported us I was able to ignore everyone else. I know what you mean about those threads though, I think some people assume that just because you do something you want them to do the same thing and share your opinion - nutty!

I got the teas this morning - DH was snoring and I was desparate for caffeine!

Pol - I'm very irritable at the moment but I think you actually have plenty of reasons to be - don't feel bad, just take some time out for a bubble bath (and lock the door!)

Just had a really full day and absolutely exhausted now - took DS swimming (first time in ages and he LOVED it!), then to great grandparents (DS loves their sheepdog), blackberry picking, new shoes for me and DS, now home (finally) and want to sleep but DH beat me to the bed so now supervising DS (from behind the laptop ). I think I want this baby to come now just so I have an adequate excuse for staying in bed!

Hope people are managing to enjoy the holiday weekend (marls - have an imaginary one with us!)- I can safely say after today that the lake district is very busy so don't go there looking for any peace and quiet!

liquidclocks · 27/08/2006 17:53

confused now - wasn't trotskymow clairemow's alias during our militant protest period?

tassis · 27/08/2006 17:56

LC, I think you're right about clairemow's alias, just spotted a trotskymow when looking to see if I'd missed an announcement from Bella (do hope she's OK).

marls - it's not a holiday weekend in Scotland either so don't feel too left out...

clairemow · 27/08/2006 18:55

yes, I was trotskymow for a few days of militancy.. changed it back though, too long to type!

Liquid, my mum was exactly the same as yours about routine etc., which I found really helpful. Even now when I take DS to stay there, I know he'll get enough sleep etc. and won't come home totally knackered and horrid, as she'll basically do the same as me - I think she likes the lunchtime nap as well!! Long may it last...

sounds like you've had a busy day in the Lakes - such a lovely part of the UK, I have really fond memories of DH and I going on holiday near Ullswater about 10 years ago, even though we were in a 2 man tent and it poured with rain the whole of the first 5 days...!

did anyone mention Angelfaces as well to add to the list - I've added her below:

Hellkat - 25.7 dd Katie

liquidclocks · 27/08/2006 20:45

The blackberry picking was between rain showers

I know I'm so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country, whenever we get up there I always wish we made more of it, I know we'll have to move unless a miracle happens in the NHS jobs market and I'll miss it when it's not there anymore. Ds loves it too, he picked loads of hisown blackberries today - guess how many of them found their way into the basket? (his mouth went purple!)

Coriander73 · 27/08/2006 20:49

Routine is good!!! Liquid, I also had those looks & comments from friends who thought that baby should run our lives & we should just go with the flow but alas...by 8-9 weeks she was in a bath / bedtime routine albeit I was still demand feeding etc but at least we knew that come 7pm she was upstairs & that after this time she never & still doesn't come out of her room etc!! Some people think it's cruel but I don't care anymore as it's worked very well for us, especially now she's gone into new room with new bed etc. The point is at least we know we have an evening...which is all so important. I have one friend whose toddler just hangs around until they go to bed & I can't help but think it's not doing him & them as couple any good.....still each to their own I guess

MW dropped off an iron prescription on Friday...said that levels had got too low & they want it back up before I go into labour...nice. The bloody pills I'm taking have made my poo black!!! Sorry if TMI but is that normal?!!! Like most of you am starting to feel very fed up & irritable. Poor DD, I did lose my temper with her yesterday as she was faffing around not wanting to get dressed & I just snapped. I felt awful afterwords but it's not as if I can run around after her & get things done quickly & efficiently anymore!!! Clairemow, on the plus side think we've cracked potty training!!! Two weeks of being totally dry through the day & actively finding the potty to poo....

Mother & MIL have started with daily phone calls to see how I am!!!!!! Err..hello, just coming up for 38 weeks...so give me a break! Looking ahead to next Monday the 4th to get DD's bday out the way & then I say bring it on...unless lo has any other plans!!

OP posts:
liquidclocks · 27/08/2006 20:56

Black/green is quite normal on iron, don't worry, you've not turned into an alien! (though I'm really glad I was toldbefore DS arrived it was normalfor babies to have green poo too or I'd have been quite worried!)

Coriander73 · 27/08/2006 20:58

Thanks Liquid!!!

appyday · 27/08/2006 21:00

Hi All, sorry to have missed a couple of days, but came out of hospital Fri pm and just crashed. Spent most of Sat washing and ironing where I felt guilty for having left 2 weeks worth for DH to possibly do. Anyway I really don't feel like LO is any more settled than when I went in but it's always better at home.
BTW my due date is 14.09
and welcome to all the new ladies
Angeliz-Elliot is gorgeous, and there's an awful lot of newborns you can't say that about-mine included!
So are we all in the fed up phase? DH came in from work today and I just burst into tears all over him because I was tired, hips hurt and LO wouldn't stop kicking me in the ribs. If it happened tonight I wouldn't be sorry.

tassis · 27/08/2006 21:03

mmmm, blackberries LC, yum!

Cori, that's great re potty training. Well done to you both.

I'm all for routine too. I'm a bit concerned about the evenings. Ds has always been great about going down at 7pm and I know LO may not do this. Dh works a lot of evenings and I really like to be child-free come 7 o'clock. Hopefully if baby does want to be up he/she will be content to feed or sit but I'm rather dreading a screaming baby needing pacing and no daddy to take a turn..

Coriander73 · 27/08/2006 21:14

Know how you feel Tassis as my DH works every other weekend - he's also doing (although finishes tom) 9 straight days covering for someone so I've had DD to myself & as he's not home until 8.30pm ish it's been up to me to get her ready & into bed...not too bad you may say but Christ, what happens when one needs breastfeeding & the other is stomping around?? I know that at 7pm DD is in bed & stays there & I'm worried that new baby will have other ideas at that crucial time I need to be with DD....arrgghhhh

My night out went well. we bumped into our pals so we stayed out much longer than planned. i got to bed at 2am! such an idiot!
i changed between pepsi and lemonade and lime all night so i didnt have a 'pepsi hangover' this morning. if i drink too much of it i get a headache!

clairemow- isnt the pelvis thing freaky? every time it happens i feel its going to break up! its only at night though. the pieces must sort of, settle then when you get up, slot back into place.

tassis- i didnt think it would be worth seeing a physio as tomorrow i have only ten days till due date and it doesnt cause any pain? i didnt have it in last preg. am assuming it should just all tighten up again once the baby is out?

normsnockers- sure you will be ok. i guess they feel there is no way the babe will turn now even if you get into strange positions? at least they dont want to 'manipulate' the babe round from the outside. that has always scared me. it just sounds so wrong to me!

can agree with all who mentioned the wee thing. i have to find a loo at least once every 40 mins for a thimble full. i feel like ive got about 3 pints on board and will blow at any minute then there is nothing there!

and finally, baby showers are ace! the girls at work did one for me last year for ds and they want to do another on tuesday for this baby but i dont want them too. i would feel too guilty. we had it in a restaurant and when dh arrived to collect me, i had to call him in to help me carry all the gifts. i couldnt manage it all!!

pol26 · 27/08/2006 23:04

Well, goodnight ladies...

Glad i'm not the only one desperately busting to pee a thimble full of wee at 2am

And glad i'm not the only one being a 'fish-wife' or a teary fool...

And if one more person tells me 'it'll come when it's good and ready' I think I really will bite their head off!!! Tell me somethingI don't know!!! GRRRRRRR it's similar to the saying how long is apiece of string!

clairemow · 28/08/2006 10:34

Morning all,

Liquid, think the black poo is normal on iron - if you're having 2trouble" as well, put your feet on a toddler step while you sit - keeps your knees higher than bum and gravity helps... trust me, I know. sorry if tmi...

Appyday, glad you're out of hospital - I added you to the list below.

Cori, great re. the potty training - we're doing ok, most days no accidents, but still getting the huge poo first thing in the nappy.

My main concern about the day with a toddler and newborn is bedtime as well. DS is great at going to bed at 7/7.15, but often loses it if it's any later. Guess we and he will just have to manage somehow. Luckily, DH is usually home unless he's away on a trip. Sigh. The days of sitting having a rest while DH does bath are numbered. !

Great news on the section Norm - your midwife can't have been funny about you opting for a section for a footling breech who's lying oblique!! That's the kind of birth that just sounds like hell on earth if done vaginally!!

The pelvis thing is weird - I get clicking noises as well, and jabs down there - presume the baby's head is pushing down on my cervix. I feel like Sigourney Weaver in Alien... Hopefully this baby will be better looking than what she produced though.

1b1b, wow about staying up til 2!! Can't imagine it!

Pol, I'm with you on the comments about it coming when it's ready. DH keeps telling me not to be impatient, but that's hard when you're carrying round 2 stone extra splatted onto your stomach and ribs..

Morning ladies.. Hope your all well, or as well as we all can be at this stage! the only thing i can say is atleast the sunshine is at bay, can you imagine how we'd feel in that right now!!!! I gather we are all feeling quite fed up and bored.. all i seem to do is bloody clean, that and eat, im sick of feeling fat and low in energy.. and also the same as you pol26.. sick of the "it'l be here when its good and ready.. or it's not long now" remarks, that and txt messages asking if you've had it yet??? What are some people on, i find most of my comments are coming from people who haven't even got children.. Sorry for the moan, just feeling pretty low and cheesed of.. lol to you all. x
