Hi everyone I'm very happy August has been so rainy and cool I also feel very excited that on Friday it will be September - our magic month I'm really excited about meeting the baby, as well as being apprehensive about the birth!!
I'm on Prevaday iron tablets and yes they make my poo black and my stomach makes very strange gurgling noises!!

compo · 28/08/2006 12:34

Oh yes, finally got a double buggy. Went with a side by side Maclaren one from ToysRUs in the end - £169. Hopefully going to try it out with ds later if it stops raining. Did have a bit of a mare fitting it in the boot but dh assures me it will be okay (just that we'll never be able to stay with anyone again as we'll have no boot space for it as well as luggage!!)

compo · 28/08/2006 12:42

this one

liquidclocks · 28/08/2006 13:07

Compo - my friend's got a single techno and loves it to bits, I'm sure it'll work fine for you! Know what you mean about the boot space though,I think DH and I are going to have to take a car each if we need to go anywhere in the next few years! I've just reminded myself of how much STUFF newborns need sorting out my steriliser/bottles etc - really hoping BF works this time as it will greatly reduce our need for all that.

Cori - how about that hormone swap now?! Or advice on how to convince my DH that I want my red blooded male back, not the domestic goddess! (as I write he is diligently making blackberry and apple pie with the fruits of yesterday's labour)

tassis · 28/08/2006 13:14

appyday, great that you're home

Cori, of course our babies could just be wee angels who settle at 7pm no bother and never cry...

1B1B - I agree that it might not be worth seeing a physio at this late stage given you're not in pain

compo - I used a double maclaren when looking after my friends wee one and ds. Think it was the cheaper version, but we really liked it. Great in town and pavements as not too wide.

pol26 · 28/08/2006 14:19

My sister has given me her double maclaren which had an additional seat too (she had twins and a 11month old) which she doesn't use any more so has given it to us. One thing I will say about it too is toddler/older child can't reach baby if they are laying back- in case we have any jealous rages on our hands! i'm in no doubt that I might...!

Been to tesco's this morning and saw a women I knew who I hadn't seen since being preg and showing... She had the nerve to say 'are you sure there in't two in there'... and the old 'oh, not long now then' line. Yes three weeks is LONG enough. (and maybe five if I go over)

Well, was up with the 'trots' last night (Sorry if tmi) and lots of lower back pain but nothing. So much for my little show nearly two weeks ago. Would kill to be more 'solid' like some of you.

mandaz · 28/08/2006 16:14

Hi all

The community mw was here all of 5 minutes today. My bp is still high but not quite as high as before. She just said to go to anti-natal on Thurs and take paracetomol for the headaches (which I've been doing anyway).

I'm definitely in the fed up stage now. I'm so sick of having the shooting pains everytime I walk, feeling like Shrek with all the swellings and running to the loo every 10 minutes! I so wish LO would get a move on!!! . Oh, and yes, I too am sick of being told 'well there's not much you can do about it, it'll happen in it's own time'. It's like, I know that, but it doesn't mean I don't want to have a moan about it sometimes! I feel like I need to be out doing stuff but then when I go out I'm shattered within an hour. I've cleaned, re-organised and tidied everywhere I can think of and am now well and truly bored. I'm even thinking of hunting out a jigsaw, just to stop myself going completely mad!

1Baby1Bump · 28/08/2006 16:33

afternoon ladies!

well, did i ever embarass (sp?) dh in tesco car park today!
cruising along the baby spaces and a woman, possibly just 60, is merrily loading her boot with about 4 bags. a big stupid 'look at me in my bmw' grin all over her face.
then she gestures to us waiting and says 'are you waiting for this space?'
well i saw red!
i said 'well yes i am. did you forget your baby today?'
she replied 'huh! well when you get to my age dear you'll park here too. its not easy'
me: 'your age?! you look much more able bodied than me atm 9 months gone with a screaming one yr old in tow!'
her: 'sarcasm'

dh was just dying in the cockpit with me hanging out my window.
a lone childless bloke a few bays down scuttled nervously into his car and sped off.

it happens all the time and drives me mad! my hormones got the better of me today!

i've had quite strong pains on and off all day today and a lot of discharge (sorry if tmi) so was peed off it has all stopped again!

calvemjoe · 28/08/2006 17:11

Hi everyone hope you are all doing well. It's going to take my internet provider up to 20 days to swap over my connection so I've been unable to get online and it's been hell I've been on this thread since January and when it get's to all the fun bits happening I can't get online. Dh has sneaked me into his work today so I can catchup with everyone, think he got fed up with me moaning!

Angeliz, congrats on your beautiful baby boy. He really is gorgeous and i'm a bit that you managed to post in labour, I call that dedication.

Pol, my midwife went on holiday the other week and her stand in found a 6cm difference between the measurements 2 weeks apart. My midwife came staright over when she got back and measured me and found no massive difference, apparantly it's common for different midwives to have different measuring techniques and they can bring up quite big differences. Hope this helps to calm you down until you get some more info.

Appyday, glad you're out of hospital, hope baby is in a nice safe and textbook recomended position

1b1b, I'm glad you found the cause of your clunking, not least because I've had it too and it was worrying me!

Liquid, your weight gain is pretty similar to mine. Midwife said as long as bump is growing it's nothing to worry about.

Topbannana, congrats on passing your driving test, sod's law decrees that you'll end up having a section and be unable to drive for 6 weeks

Marls, I'm constantly hormonal and teary at the moment, figure it's my right, if you can't be hormonal when you're 39 weeks pg when can you be?

Clairemow, which Harry Potter are you reading? I'm a bit of an addict (very at Dumbledoresgirl for her chat name)and I'm reading Order of the Pheonix again at the mo (is my least favourite because Umbridge makes me )

Still sleeping on the floor and sharing a room with ds. Plasterer keeps on failing to turn up so 2 walls in lo's room still require plaster as does the whole of ds's room before we can decorate and get our bed up. DS has also started waking up at 6am and cause he's in our room we can't just tell him it's not morning yet and shut the door, so very very tired.

I'm getting lot's of BH's and low down pains along with a very watery discharge, but hoping lo is late else I'm going to be recovering from a birth and trying to establish breast feeding on the sofa. Although, when I said see you in 2 weeks to my midwife she just grinned and said 'whatever' so I think she thinks lo is getting ready.

Take care of those bumps, and please, no more babies until I can get online at home

clairemow · 28/08/2006 17:32

calvemjoe, I'm also reading the order of the phoenix again, and finding i can't remember much of it! I'm at the bit where Dumbledore's just been sacked - you?

Cries of more please mummy from the kitchen... got to go and make more exciting honey sarnies.

mabel1973 · 28/08/2006 17:36

Marls001 · 28/08/2006 18:07

Hi all - Glad many of you got to go out one last time for holidays! Did feel like a holiday weekend here, with DH taking over like he did ... he's tackling this like "Operation Keep LO In (Until Mom Arrives)" and will be working out of the house tomorrow ... am feeling better, with so much help from him with DS.

Calvemjoe ... hope all goes well with the home, and soon! What a setup ...

Made a secondary list of things we could tack on this week (mostly more art pieces I can start). Labor bag will be finished today; things for baby are all out, cleaned, and ready.
Manda - consider picking up "The Essential Dorothy Parker" for a read. You may find her hilarious, just the right sarcastic female voice for this later stage of pg.

Still irritated not of my own accord ... just always there - and so, have been having the occasional beer ... seems to really help.
Glad I'm not the only snappy one ...

1B1B - LOL! Good for you. It's ridiculously selfish when people park in handicapped, etc. And if you're like me you're feeling 90, not 60
Norms - completely with you on the pee conundrum. DH woke up last night in time to see me lean against wall on my way to slowly shuffling inside bathroom ... Definitely not sexy these days. Have also gained 45 pounds!! Hoping most is water and baby (as Dr. says ... he may just be trying to make me feel better).

Went to Dr. this morning. Says my bp #s are fine for now ... whew!! Yay.

Claire - Had been not only not adding salt (which I never did anyway) but also finding low-sodium alternatives; have been reading all the labels - being surprised by some - salt is everywhere!! Gave up over weekend to have a chicken pot pie (1000mg!) ... but lots of water too. Will continue to watch intake - don't want anything to suddenly happen in the final week.

Dr. asked today, "Do you want me to strip your membranes for you?" Didn't know what that meant. Means using fingers to physically stretch cervix, & women usually go into labor the next 72 hours afterward ... fearing Mom wouldn't have come yet I said no ... made another appt. for Thurs though; may do it then.

This upcoming weekend here is Labor Day Weekend - actual Labor Day holiday is Monday - I may be IN labor!

liquidclocks · 28/08/2006 18:55

Marls - our midwives call it 'sweeping' the membranes - I think I prefer that to stripping! Enjoy your occasional beer, I've been lifting the odd one from under DH's nose too!

1b1b - you go girl! I've never had the courage but what pisses me off even more than frail old ladies (and they have to be really frail) is families with teenagers and young blokes in sports cars grrrrr.

Well, I'm going to have a soft boiled egg tonight (it's lion stamped so salmonella free guaranteed) - I've been craving one for weeks and it's not fair when we get to sunday night each week and DH eats 2 right in front of me. Can't wait till brie and pate are back on the menu... yum!

DH still in domestic goddess mode - blackberry and apple pie was yummy, he washed up after himself, put the washing out made DS's tea... Bar one thing I must be the luckiest woman around!

Marls001 · 28/08/2006 19:23

"Sweeping" does sound much nicer! Using the excuse that a single beer actually opens blood vessels & lowers bp temporarily ...

Your DH sounds great!! Wow - I'm the only one who ever bakes around here!
Told mine today he's looking good stepping out of the shower ... what a waste ... someday we'll get back to being more than partners in just parenting & home matters ...

compo · 28/08/2006 19:24

I'm with you LC on the pate and soft eggs!! Would love a proper fry up with lovely runny eggs and then for lunch some crusty bread and pate and maybe some stilton on the side
Does nayone know if all these things are safe to eat when b/feeding? I can't remember from last time!!

compo · 28/08/2006 19:25

P.S. Marls - I've been on the wine this weekend... figure with only a few weeks to go a few glasses won't do any harm

1Baby1Bump · 28/08/2006 19:38

i have been drinking kaliber! like my grandad does!!
i did have half a proper beer with dh last night though....and it tasted divine!

reminds me, im going to get another kaliber now...

pol26 · 28/08/2006 20:22

Hey ladies...

Well tomorrow I will be able to speak to the mw or A mw as the centre is open and they take calls from 9-12!!! Yeah! I'm concerned as three mw have measured me big, not just my mw. But he has still been moving so I can't really say that I know something is wrong- but how can you manage to measure 43 weeks!???

Also who here is drinking raspberry leaf tea??? Who has more pains after they have drunk them???
Or pains after they've been bouncing on their ball???

liquidclocks · 28/08/2006 21:02

Pol - I have a gut feeling that my pains are stronger on days I've drunk the tea (like today!). Glad to know you'll be able to speak to someone tomorrow, I hope it helps.

pol26 · 28/08/2006 21:08

liquidclocks- how many cups are you drinking? It seems about 20 mins after i've drunk the tea I get a lower back, bottie stabby pain... if that makes sense? Wondering whether it's the tea, me imagining it or labour starting on and off- which I would like but continually please...

If I was religious, i'd be busy praying to bring this baby on!

liquidclocks · 28/08/2006 22:48

I am religious and very busy praying for this baby to get a move on!

I'm not sure I can put a finger on when exactly I'm getting my strongest BH's- maybe I'll keep more ofan eye on it. From everything I've read though there's no chance of drinking the tea actually inducing real labour - pity! Been having pretty strong irregular contractions here this evening but refuse to get hopeful, only be disappointed...

Soon though, soon!

NattyandThomas · 28/08/2006 22:54

hi ladies im not having a baby but just noticed alot of you are drinking the rasberry leaf tea stuff. BE CAREFUL, i drank about 10 cups a day for the last two weeks, and it lead to my uterous being "over stimulated" which meant that when i went in labour my contractions were every minute from the start! 14 hour labour followed by c-section because although contractions were close together and strong they werent LONG enough to dialate me. so be careful, midwife told me that it was most likely the tea that caused it.

good luck to you all, heres to bouncing september babies!

Marls001 · 29/08/2006 01:53

Wow; that's scary ... I'm having just under 2 cups per day of strongly brewed organic raspberry leaf tea. But as I haven't noticed any BH or pains related to when I have the tea ... will definitely keep having it.

The connection between raspberry leaf tea and the uterus is generally not made in the US, so hardly any pg women would consider drinking it (most just continue with their coffee).

But I have been warned away from strong brews/large doses of chamomile tea, as more than a cup or so per day could cause contractions in pg women.

I did try to find negative information regarding raspberry tea and pg on the Internet before I added it to the daily regimen, but didn't find anything negative.

Hoping for the best ...

Glad I'm not alone in it, Pol!

LOL, Liquid ... meanwhile we're praying he stays in & waits for his Mimi. 4 more days ... Now, if he gave me Labor Day weekend to get even more done & allow Mom some alone time with DS1, that wouldn't be bad either. BUT - feeling rather whale-ish & frumpy & keep dropping food on the bump ... won't be sad to see it go.

liquidclocks · 29/08/2006 09:25

I think nattyandthomas may have been slightly overdoing it at 10 cups per day (but thanks for the warning) - the most I've seen recommended is a teaspoonful of rasberry leaves per cup, 3 times a day - sometimes I don't make even that! Like today, I've had to come into the office so will be on coffee until tonight. Strangely enough though I had those types of contractions - no recovery time and then straight into the next one and they were super strong - I discussed them with the midwife when she came and she said they were most likely due to having an ARM (artificial rupture of membranes - ie, they burst my waters with what looked like a crochet needle) and to try and avoid that this time if I can.

Well, busy morning ahead - would so much rather be at home with feet up or even painting (have a really strong urge at mo!) - not painting like you marls, I mean up a ladder sort of painting - I've two bedrooms and the hall, stairs and landing to do and want to get it done 'before', though may leave going up the ladder to DH

mabel1973 · 29/08/2006 10:59

hi all
liquid - I had exactly the same experience as you with regards to contractions and I had to have my waters broken - I had to no let up whatsoever and I didn't bother with raspberry leaf tea til after I was over due so it didn't really do anything for me. I think maybe nattyand thomas may have had a labour like that tea or no tea, I agree 10 cups per day is slightly excessive - I am on 3 cups per day, i thought that was the recommended dose?
Seen my usual MW today - full of the usual useful information (sarcastic emoticon!). She didn't tell me anything i didn't already know, but she said there is still plenty of room there (where??!!) as baby is long but skinny (as DS was).
Compo - you are fine to eat foods like that when BF, the reason you can't when pg is because the listeria bacteria can cause the foetus to abort. To be honest I had a Brie and beetroot sandwhich as the w/e - delicious!
It seems as if we are all wishing and praying for our babies to come asap - although I feel physically ready, is it just me that doesn't feel mentally prepared? I know I will just 'get on with it' when it happens, but I am starting to get quite worried. This pregnancy has flown by and I don't feel as if I've taken time to get my head round it!
