Didn't see one started, as our last thread looks full. Let's hope we are all kicking the early pregnancy sickness and starting to glow :)

OP posts:

plates we didn't do any birth prep classes (lazy) but I did read the hypnobirthing book and listen to the cd. Read various other books too to get a balanced view. Went into the labour process with no fear and had a good experience so some of it must've sunk in. I spent a lot of my labour in a dark room (bathroom!) with just my DH & doula with occasional monitoring from the midwife so it is possible to recreate some of that "mammal" birthing style in a sterile hospital environment. I hadn't planned it that way, it was just what seemed to work for us.

ismarah · 19/02/2014 16:06

Sign me up for a mossy nest and a Zing tiara. Pisstaking is kind of my forte, really.

MrsB2013 · 19/02/2014 16:53

Ismarah hope everything works out ok for you!

Good luck to all those buying/selling houses, hope it all goes smoothly!

Glad all the 20 week scans went well! Mine was fine, baby has a big belly though! The sonographer didn't seem worried, so he must just be a fatty lol

ZingSweetApple · 19/02/2014 16:55

ismarah

tiara - definitely!Grin

but what is a mossy nest?

ismarah · 19/02/2014 17:01

It's Homeiswheretheginis last post re hypnobirthing earnestness. It sounds cosy and secluded which sounds nice as I sit here drooling over A Place in the Sun..

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 19/02/2014 17:19

I just had an image of an earnest teacher standing over a group of pregnant women and encouraging them as they foraged about in the fields for bits of straw and moss to make their birthing nests...a bit trite I admit!

That said, one of my friends did say that hypnobirthing really helped her to feel less scared. Helped by the fact that she ignored the bits about how if you really believed it didn't hurt, then it wouldn't...

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 19/02/2014 17:40

Having made fun of the 'say something to your baby'/'imagine a stream of bubbles' bit of my yoga class I should also say that my teacher has a really pragmatic 'these techniques will help, but if you want/need pain relief or other medical intervention that's normal and fine - every labour is different' approach - which I'm really grateful for as I don't think I'd be able to cope with anything too mossy/hippyish!

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 19/02/2014 17:52

itsalwaysbetter thank you for using mossy as an adjective in that sense - am going to start doing the same! Now to think of a cunning way to introduce it to the friendship group without them discovering my secret MN alter-ego...

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 19/02/2014 18:20

I'm a big fan of new adjectives :)

icklekid · 19/02/2014 20:22

Just so no one else gets overly excited, I'm sure its just me, tried the code blue posted for gap above as I love the Paddington stuff and it says
Excludes gift cards, Paddington Bearâ„¢ for babyGap

So great offer just not for Paddington stuff sadly :-(

Will refuse to buy any for at least a week in protest ;-)

BlueC2 · 19/02/2014 21:12

ickle :( so sorry! I was on my phone so didn't see the t+c's

mummytobejuly2014 · 19/02/2014 21:12

I wana know whats growing in there before I commit to the paddington stuff. This waiting is killing me, 20wks today, a week til the scan. Back & face riddled with painful lumpy acne - where's this suppoased glow hiding?! Ribs have been so painful the days, have gone from tightest setting on a 30" back to the loosest & the loosest with added extender. Time to buy some new bras I think as cant put it off any longer. Also got this really weird intense pain earlier in bottom of lung/rib/side of belly, I breathed out and struggled to breathe back in again as if the lung was caught, was like an intense crushing stitch like pain which got worse the more I tried to breathe normal, had to shallow breathe a good few mins. Freaked OH out the noises/shapes I was making it was that painful it made my eyes water :s
how is everyone else keeping?

Plateofcrumbs · 19/02/2014 22:31

Nests were mentioned at the hypnobirthing session! Not mossy ones mind. But mossy definitely describes the whole thing. Totally mossy!

I am actually up for giving it a try, but worried that you need to buy into it for it to work. Placebo effect style.

osinachi · 19/02/2014 22:40

Hello everyone. Just a quick one to say mothercare is having a free expectant parents event. Check their website and mothercare club.
ismara praying for you, hope whatever the outcome you are able to deal with it, and hoping for the best.
My tummy is growing at an astonishing rate. Between Sat and today it's been unbelievable!! Am also feeling flutters. It's a lovely feeling can't wait for it to get strong enough for dh to feel it too.

NancyinCali · 20/02/2014 03:07

In case you want to grow your own mossy nest, this tutorial might help (it's for a bath mat, why you'd want one of those I have no idea).

icklekid · 20/02/2014 05:38

mummy I had to give in and buy new bras aswell hope they last a while. ..

I mentioned hypnobirthing to dh and he just laughed but my friend does have a dvd so may give that a go and make him sit through it!

osinachi I'm also growing like crazy just happy to look pregnant not fat!!!

BlueC2 · 20/02/2014 07:32

mummy I have also had that stitch like pain under the ribs-lasted the whole evening on Monday and v painful-had it with DS too so think it must be a growing/stretching thing.

Bean seems to be having a little party this morning-wriggling and kicking away! My bump also seems suddenly huge too!

I have a 'fun' morning ahead-meeting one of my Nct friends from DS who moved away-we're meeting half way and were supposed to be going for a nice walk but weather has stopped that so I've now got half term soft play centre hell to contend with-grrr!

Mrsc020987 · 20/02/2014 08:37

Well, after our second attempt at 20 week scan, baby is fine and final measurements confirmed all healthy and growing well. Now I know this is all that matters, but I think I cried for the full day yesterday and could start again at any moment. My baby will not play ball at all, I literally seen nothing over 2 weeks nothing, the photographs are a sea of grey with a spine. The sonographer handed me them sniggered and told me to use my imagination. I know this is irrational and I need to focus on the fact baby is well, it's just so disappointing to have your hopes built up to see an arm or leg, but I got a tour of heart chambers which is great if you are aware of what your looking at! Dh has booked me in for 3d at 26 weeks, I never got one with dd as really wanted gender surprise and had been told they show much easier so a little apprehensive as I want another surprise, just praying baby will play ball, they have said they will just keep trying until I get decent ones thank god. Apologies for self pity irrational rant!!

icklekid · 20/02/2014 10:12

Oh dear mrsc one of my pictures is very similar to that. Baby was so low that sonographer really struggled to get good view but we managed to get one that was ok can sympathise. Just keep reminding yourself that all is well, at least you have another scan to look forward to. I find it really hard to imagine that might be it all done until baby born now!

blue its beautiful here I'm thinking of going for a walk- hopefully it stays nice and that it clears up where you are. I can imagine busy soft play is stressful!

Am currently wearing one of my 'loose' tops I bought that I thought would do me for a while. Well it is officially not loose anymore!!! Shock

ZingSweetApple · 20/02/2014 10:55

MrsC

(hugs)

I had one of DD that her thigh and knee were in such a position that everyone, including DH would comment and laugh at "the biggest penis ever"!

I kept on saying it's baby's leg, but there was no end of stupidity.
I was not impressed.Angry
(it's funnny now, especially that she is a girl with no enormous penis!Grin )

I'm sorry you are upset, I think I would be.
It's just one of those things, your brain knows it's silly to cry about it, but you just can't help it, because it is important and we all want to show off as well.

maybe take a few photocopies and draw in or glue on some silly faces or superhero costumes to cheer you up?

Ipsumlorem · 20/02/2014 11:25

My goodness! Lots of good news with scans/houses etc! Grin

Ismarah I hope everything works out ok in the end.

Blue goodluck with soft play!

MrsC I sympathise - I had 20 week scan yesterday. Everything was fine and we saw stuff on the screen - baby's face briefly etc - but thanks to baby never staying still our photos are pretty much as you describe! We do have one clear one of the sole of a foot which the sonographer kindly labelled 'foot' for us which made me laugh! Grin

Zing Our hospital don't tell you the gender but DH is convinced its a girl because he didn't see evidence of any male parts. I just laughed and said we would hardly have seen anything anyway with the wriggling and maybe it is just really small - he did not take my joke kindly! Wink

Think we are pretty set on booking a gender scan now - partly so we get to see jelly bean again before 'B'-day and also because 20 week scan has made us even more curious! Smile

fifi669 · 20/02/2014 11:48

My 20 week scan is 9.30 tomorow, we're finding out and i'm so excited I can't concentrate at work!

We also have a 3D scan booked for the something of March? DP bought it as a birthday present. Maybe the 24th? So that'll be good too.

ismarah · 20/02/2014 12:27

Is there a limit to gender scans in terms of timing? If the 20w scan doesn't show it and you want to know can you have one any time until B day?

LaDay · 20/02/2014 13:52

Dont think any limit, I found out 6 days before ds was born mariah, as a consultant asked me if "I wanted to know what sex he was"
Hmmmmmm....!

Am still broken with tiredness, doesn't help the railway is still broken in Devon so driving up to 700 miles a week. Have to take all my hols before mat leave though so only 38 working days left...blimey had better get some more stuff done.

Roll on summer...!

LaDay · 20/02/2014 13:53
