I have been lucky - my last two midwife appointments have been good and the last one was great as I got to hear the heartbeat and discuss a home birth which she was all in favour of.

MinaLeeds · 08/03/2014 16:29

I have my next MW appointment next week (the 17th). Apparently MW is going to start measuring my bump from then to check baby's growth.

I've been obsessing slightly about my weight gain and a dodgy weighing scale doesn't help so now I just weigh myself when I go to the midwife. She doesn't mind me hopping on the scales quickly. I was a bit worried that I wasn't gaining much weight because my diet has changed so drastically that the parts of me me that are me (my arms and legs) are smaller than before. But MW said not to worry and that weight means very little as long as baby is growing and moving. Which is very reassuring as baby is kicking like mad and actually bounced my laptop while it was on my bump yesterday! It was kind of awesome. :)

How are you ladies doing on the nursery/birth plan fronts? We're hoping we'll be able to convince mum that home birth is a good option (we're only 10 mins from hospital if you follow all speed limits and stop at all traffic lights) and nursery is sort of not painted/painted, we're getting windows redone as they're in poor condition, new doors, need a new bathroom, stairs and landing need plastering, then painting, basically the list seems never ending! All I want to do is nap or eat doughnuts. :(

Redcliff · 08/03/2014 21:21

I am also sliding towards a home birth - am thinking of putting a birthing pool in the front room. Not sure if my mum is too keen and am hoping she will be on board as will need her here to distract son if needed and look after him if things change and I need to get to hospital (which is pretty close). Do you have to convince you mum for similar reasons?

MarlenaGru · 08/03/2014 22:19

I am hoping to have a home birth too. I am not telling my mum until she needs to know. We are very close to the hospital. And i know a home birth would be best for me and my family. I know my mum would not approve. In fact she would far rather i just had a CS to make everything less stressful for her.

MinaLeeds · 08/03/2014 22:49

Redcliff my mum is of the opinion that giving birth can be dangerous and if there are complications, she wants them happening in a hospital. The vast majority of births in Kenya (where we're from) are home births so there is a disproportionately high number of horror stories related to birthing complications and trying to get women who are half way into labour to hospitals that could be miles away. She's now got that image in her head and is proving to be quite difficult. When I told her initially that I was thinking about it she had a total melt down.

GillyBillyWilly · 09/03/2014 12:44

I'm 28 weeks tomorrow and have a midwife appt on Wednesday. Last one was 3 weeks ago. They're every 3 weeks for a while now I think Smile

Hi ladies

its been a while, but I'm glad everyone and their little bubbas are doing well. I finally decided on a maternity leave date of the 6th June, with a week's annual leave prior to that. Although that may very well change.
W/C 17th I have my GTT, Growth scan, Midwife appointment with anti D....plus for the past 4 weeks I have had to inject myself with Fragmin due to family history and will continue to be on it until post birth....I seriously feel like a pin cushion! This is my third and I think I have had more appointments than the first two combined.
Mina, we also have so much to do. Currently I'm suffering from head in the sand syndrome, but my mum's neighbour just gave birth 5 weeks early (first baby) so I'm thinking I should at least get my hospital bag sorted.

CleverOl10 · 09/03/2014 19:08

Anyone had whooping cough jab yet? Or got it booked? No one has mentioned it to me since booking in and I'm nearly 27 weeks - I'm sure it was supposed to be soon?

chestnutmare · 09/03/2014 19:34

Clever my midwife discussed the whooping cough vaccine at my 24 week appointment and I have it booked with the practice nurse on the same day as my 28 week midwife appointment, I'll be 28+2 then.

On the leaflet she gave me, it says the best time to have it done is between 28 and 32 weeks, although can be done up to 38 weeks. Maybe it will be discussed at your 28 week appointment?

CleverOl10 · 09/03/2014 19:35

Thanks for the info - I will definitely bring it up at 28 week appt :)

dramajustfollowsme · 09/03/2014 20:06

My hips have succumbed to SPD. Sad They are aching. I thought I was maybe going to get away with it this time but all of a sudden - ouch.

Redcliff · 10/03/2014 07:36

Drama - that sounds awful. I remember going to antenatal classes last time around and a couple of women there had SPD. Hope you can get some help for it.

Mum melt downs - have seen a few of these but I get the impression my brother has seen more . Can completely understand wanting to avoid them.

Jessiebaba · 10/03/2014 12:29

I had my 24 week appointment with the midwife this morning - everything is fine. I've had an appointment every 4 weeks since the 12 weeks scan (whether that be a scan or a check-up with the mw).

Clever MW reminded me this morning about the whooping cough vaccine and said I should make an appointment with the practice nurse to have it done around 28 weeks.

Jessiebaba · 10/03/2014 12:32

Mina we haven't really done anything to the nursery yet. DP is still using it as a study and will be until the start of May. My EDD isn't until the end of June though so will hopefully have plenty of time to redecorate etc before the bub arrives. I have been buying lots of things though and so we have the cotbed, curtains etc all waiting

Curly86 · 10/03/2014 14:28

Hi ladies; I'm 24w+5 due on 26th June with baby boy, first baby, crapping myself, have SPD and currently feel like a whale

mylittlel · 10/03/2014 18:02

Clever my midwife is useless sometimes, so i have to do lots of reading and research about being pregnant, i did a small research before otherwise I wouldnt of known about whooping cough myself, i asked at my 25 weeks appt, they said to do it at 28 weeks

CleverOl10 · 10/03/2014 19:30

Thanks to all for the whooping cough advice. My next appointment is 28+1 so hopefully I can book it then for the following week and not be too late.

And welcome Curly!Grin

Cherryjellybean · 11/03/2014 03:03

Welcome curly!!

I've never heard of the whooping cough jab, I didn't have it last time. Need to ask about that one!

I have a wriggly kicking baby stopping me from sleeping right now, has anyone else been kept awake yet?

Expectingtwins1975 · 11/03/2014 18:42

My MW hasn't mentioned the whooping cough vaccine but I got a letter from my gp surgery weeks ago telling me to book an appt with them to have it between 28 and 32 weeks

Mitchell2 · 12/03/2014 09:41

Currently waiting for my midwife. I doubt she will mention the whooping cough injection... I think I need bloods about now too (26 weeks)...

Hope everyone on here is doing well. I'm currently really really shattered at the moment. Hoping it will pass!

mylittlel · 12/03/2014 09:55

oh yes they should reffer for blood as well at 28 weeks, at least mw was winging they they should of but they didnt so she had to arrange it

Lmf679 · 12/03/2014 13:28

Hi all, question for you.
What is SPD like? I've been getting a really weird pain at the bottom of my back/hips which I can't really locate, it's only on one side but it's really painful to walk sometimes and the pain goes down my leg sometimes. I'm walking really slowly everywhere like an old lady and it hurts more to go downstairs than up. Is this SPD or have I just trapped a nerve? Am off to the midwife Friday so will mention it but just wondered if anyone had anything similar?

jaykay987 · 12/03/2014 15:11

I'd like to know too lmf. I have shooting pains down my leg, but I have history of a trapd nerve and think this is related.

I have very aches hips though - which I'm thinking might be tiredness.

I keep trying to underplay my niggles - but not sure how much pain is "normal" for me and how much is too much. I'm coping ok at the moment - but just intrigued.

Liquidambar · 12/03/2014 16:04

Lmf sorry I do not know how SPD feels. But definitely mention it to your your mw. Some relaxation/yoga exercises might help.

I see my midwife every 6 weeks and this is baby#2. Due to some complications I will see her next week, which is one week earlier than normal.

Clever I received a leaflet saying after 28 weeks for the jab. I will mention it to my mw next week too.

Curly welcome :-)

Mummymidwife87 · 13/03/2014 10:54

Whooping cough is between 28 and 34weeks. It takes two weeks for some immunity to pass on to baby, aim being it would have passed through by 36weeks at the latest.

I'm 25weeks today.
Started liquid iron supplements yesterday. I requested an iron level check at 22weeks as had fainted a week earlier, and looked very pale. HB 10, treatment is from 10.5. So got hold of that yesterday, hopefully will help as starting to feel short of breath quite frequently.
SPD kicked in this week, right at the bottom of my pubic bone. Fun!!

The nursery hasn't really started yet. We are touching up some paint work this weekend, buying some wall stickers appropriate for a baby/nursery, need to keep clearing the room out, it's currently got a bike in plus lots of crap. The bike needs to go on the wall, not buying a combed yet, just a petite cot for our room (they last for up to a year), not bothering with Moses basket. Already got a white wardrobe and white chest of drawers.
