I know how you feel pixie, heartburn, restless legs, back ache, trapped nerve and peeing every 10mins, Grrrr!

IceNoSlice · 03/02/2014 07:36

pixie and puggy insomnia is rubbish, isn't it? Sympathy.

diz that sounds lovely, especially enjoying your weekend with OH. They can be pretty great, can't they.

We took DS to a farm world type attraction yesterday, with petting animals and a big soft play. It is a weird concept for me, having grown up in a very rural place and played on friends' farms as a nipper. But DS loved it, and the soft play was pretty tolerable - clean and the other children seemed well behaved so no horror stories. DS giggled so much at the foam shape things and the slides. Was lovely. Saw a lady BFing whilst her family were on the soft play, made me quite excited for having two little monkeys!

I found out Fri night that sticky toffee pudding causes bad acid reflux. Am getting through packets of Gaviscon and sleeping on about 6 pillows.

Imeg · 03/02/2014 08:33

Am definitely joining in with the sleeping troubles... Am still trying to make the most of maternity leave but constantly feel like having a nap! Have been banished to the spare room for snoring - not sure that's helping as it's quite cold in there.

Off to see the consultant this afternoon: it wasn't supposed to be for a scan but the midwife is hoping she'll have a quick look anyway. Really hope I don't have to go back another day as the hospital has terrible parking arrangements and I find it really stressful going there on my own: in-laws are taking me today but I can't keep asking them.

Imeg · 03/02/2014 08:34

PS Also a bit constipated but not too bad, think that might be partly because I eat gluten-free bread which I think is mostly made of fibre...

commsgirl · 03/02/2014 09:39

Ice sounds lovely :)

Sympathy for all the isomnia/heartburn/toilet issues. Hard work isn't it. I had a bit of a meltdown to DP this morning, I can't imagine doing another three weeks of work!

mrsmugoo · 03/02/2014 11:09

Imeg Me too on the snoring - this was a preggy symptom that massively took me by surprise. How un-glam!

DitaVonCreamTeas · 03/02/2014 13:42

Sympathies to everyone with a sore arse/permanent indigestion/insomnia/constant weeing; me too and it's no fun. Cake

Had the growth scan today; all fine, he's just over 4lb - smaller side of 'normal'. Phew. Plus he's head down too.

mrsmugoo · 03/02/2014 15:33

One of my friends, due on March 14th had a growth scan the other day and her baby is already estimated to be 7lb - whopper!!

commsgirl · 03/02/2014 15:36

Glad everything's okay Dita!

My friend had a growth scan at 39 weeks that estimated her baby at 10lbs. They ended up inducing her. Baby was 7lbs 1!

EmFlat · 03/02/2014 15:38

Mrs whaaaat!? Eek Wink

Quick question about the swollen ankles... mine are constantly on the larger side of puffy, and my BP was a tiny bit 'up' last week. A friend at work has just said she was induced early because of this... have any of you ladies heard any stories like this? Freaking myself out now... Confused

commsgirl · 03/02/2014 16:12

Em severe/sudden swelling and high BP can be signs of pre-eclampsia (along with protein in urine, severe headaches and I forget what else). It's not always a reason to induce but could be. However if you're seeing your midwife and having BP and urine monitored then I wouldn't worry too much about it - just keep your eye on things.

FrankelInFoal · 03/02/2014 16:21

Em I had a scare a few weeks ago, I woke up with a puffy face and really puffy feet. I called my midwife to ask her advice and she quizzed me about any other symptoms (headaches, spots in front of the eyes, etc) I said no so she said if I was concerned to go to my GP and ask them to take my blood pressure. I did and though it was up on what is normal fir me (I have naturally very low BP) it was definitely not high.

Pre-eclampsia is a risk, and sounds like that might be what your friend had, but as comms says, if you are being seen regularly by your midwife and having your BP and urine checked then it is probably just standard pregnancy fluid retention.

I find the best thing to help with my puffy feet is to:
a) avoid sitting for too long a period - get up and move around even if it's a few minutes once an hour;
b) prop your feet up whenever you can - I've taken to putting cushions on my coffee table so I can prop them up when I'm on the sofa;
c) try sleeping with your feet on a cushion, or, even better, see if your DH will stick some heavy duty books under the foot of your bed so that your feet are raised a bit at night;
d) before you go to bed spend a few minutes circling your ankles and flexing your feet to help move the fluid around.

Don't stress like I did, puffiness is pretty common in late pregnancy, but talk to your midwife if you are ever worried.

EmFlat · 03/02/2014 16:53

Thanks, Frankel and Comms Smile so silly to worry, after we've come this far! I've no problem with other people telling me what happened to them (tend to just smile and nod most of the time), but it's easy to be distracted by their stories and forget what your MW/common sense tells you...

Extra MW check tomorrow am, so they are indeed looking after me - am very grateful for your reassurance and advice too! Feet will be firmly 'up' tonight. Thanks guys Thanks

IceNoSlice · 03/02/2014 19:42

Em I agree with the others - especially good advice from Frankel there.

It's difficult, isn't it? Feet up for swelling / reduce odaema but keep head/throat elevated to reduce heartburn. At the same time as not sleeping on your back!

Imeg · 03/02/2014 20:52

Growth all ok on my scan so was obviously just lying the wrong way for the tape measurement.
Dita, glad yours was ok too.

Lottie345 · 03/02/2014 21:20

It's all glamour isn't it. Feel like my arsehole is one giant haemorrhoid...

Saw diff midwife today (been asked to go every well after a bit of a meltdown) who was lovely but blip in appointments - combination of none next week and her changing Monday appt to Fridays) means I can't go again now til I'm nearly 38 weeks and I haven't had my risk assessment for birth centre yet. Paranoid now I'll have baby early and not be able to go to MLU...

Guessing assessment is pretty essential to being allowed through the door...

imeg and dita -glad your growth scans were ok.

Nine days left at work. Still seems a lifetime...

BadlyWrittenPoem · 03/02/2014 23:03

"Oh and people brushing off how tiring and uncomfortable the last few weeks of pregnancy are because obviously it's so much worse with a newborn - forgetting I am still working for another month and cleaning the house, doing supermarket shops and generally keeping life ticking over - I can't just sit at home in my pjs eating freezer food on the sofa all day."

I'm sure it is hard work for you but you do realise that the majority of people sitting at home as you describe are not doing it through choice or because they can but out of necessity and are dreaming of being physically capable of doing all those things that you are doing? Last pregnancy I went supermarket shopping once - my husband took me in a wheelchair and even then I was only able to manage half of the shop.

mrsmugoo · 03/02/2014 23:25

I was more referring to those who have just recently given birth...they very quickly seem to forget it was them struggling around only weeks before.

I didn't mean to offend anyone.

EmFlat · 03/02/2014 23:38

Exactly, Ice! Grin I've given up and now mostly sleep on my back, but with several pillows to raise my top half - it keeps the reflux at bay, doesn't do anything for my ankles, but also stops hip/pelvis pain. Bugger it if it means a stretch of 3 hours sleep instead of none Wink

Gaaaaah! tho... one of the girls from my antenatal has just had her little boy... a full month early! She was due 5 days before me Confused ...

dizhin79 · 04/02/2014 00:58

wrt to pre eclampsia risk you need to contact the hospital (consultant led ward) as soon as any of these symptoms occur, they strap you up to a minor to measure baby and your blood pressure every 5 minutes. I've been up tonight as, I'm a similar boat to you have slightly raised BP for me, but still classed as normal and have had a headache since 4pm. They said to me any symptoms at all then to contact anytime and go in asap. Just to be sure baby isn't struggling at all.

commsgirl · 04/02/2014 02:38

Glad everything went well at your scan Imeg.

I'm so tired. DP got up to go to the loo an hour ago and woke me up, still haven't managed to get back to sleep.

glitterhoops · 04/02/2014 09:19

em re acid reflux, last night I made sure I ate early (6.00) instead of 7.30/8 and ate plain food- fish and veg and nothing sweet. The reflux was much much better through the night. I know it seems obvious, but thought I'd mention.

DitaVonCreamTeas · 04/02/2014 09:25

Great to hear your scan went well Imeg Smile

Tried to big spoon up to DH in the night for a cuddle as DC was kicking and hiccuping, but I couldn't get anywhere near him due to bump size.

Going to get started on my labour bag in the next few days, think I've been putting it off a bit.

Imeg · 04/02/2014 09:33

I think all of you are more organised than me so probably have this sorted already so I just wondered whether any of you have hired a TENS machine and if so, where from?
