I love b/f. dd1 justwoke up having an absolute paddy and she was so much calmer after a b/f & now seems to be going back off to sleep. sounds like ppl have had really frustrating experiences with gps. every time I saw one for antenatal appts with dd1, they kept pushing b/f. if they do this again, I will be right back at them asking what services they are commissioning to help mums b/f as it us so hard to get started. punk & twink, thinking of u both today

ThisIsMeNow · 10/01/2014 22:33

Topmammy like palpitations? I've been having that. Had it with dd too so think it's normal!

Broody, I don't think a lot of people know I'm still feeding dd. I do enjoy seeing their faces when I say I'd rather give her my breastmilk than a cows, don't think many people see milk like that Grin
When they used to comment things like "still bf?" I use to tell them we tried starving her but she wasnt too keen on that!
Each to their own with feeding but I don't want opinions on how I feed my dc. We're perfectly happy with it. Dp even has a little rant if anyone tried to question it Smile well trained

Punky I'm so sorry to hear your news! :( FX that it will happen again soon, I hvae heard of quite a few people falling pregnant again after having a MC! Remember everything happens for a reason! Nothing you did wrong

Twink again Ive got my fingers crossed! If the worst does happen lets hope MIL hasnt told the entire world!! that is so unfair on you!!

Welcome to the new ladies! Hope i have you all on!!

Bex I have had a few pulling sensations but im sure thats normal seeing as we are all stretching and we have a baby growing inside us!!

It seems since it was confirmed by the dr yesterday, nausea has kicked in! I am not impressed at all!! its hard when im working as im a bar maid, and at times have to take food out the kitchen, and that does not help!! starting to feel real!! So excited about Baby Spoon! We are telling parents in two weeks as hubbys parents live in northumberland and we are in the south and it is something hubby really wants to tell them face to face, so we will then tell my dad when we get home (only have a dad) then siblings and everyone else will be once scan is done!!

Are you ladies going to tell anyone your actual due date or just say september! I am not sure as i dont want to be bombarded when due date arrives if baby spoon has not put in an appearance!?

Also i know its just under 4 weeks until my midwife appointment, but I have been thinking about family history, and how i dont know much of it! My mum died from cancer when i was a little girl! I dont want to quiz my dad on her still birth, miscarriages etc, as it has taken him 21 years to move on and this is the happiest i have ever seen him so dont want to knock him back! Would the midwife be able to look into it for me? WAFFLES this might be something you can help as resident midwife!?

Purple37 · 11/01/2014 09:25

Hi ladies, hope everyone is well
Having a bit of a nightmare here, started slight spotting on Thursday, like a tiny amount when I wipe (tmi sorry) and 5p size smudge on a pad. Been seen by out of hours who said no sign of ectopic, pg test still positive but tiny traces of blood in my urine. Spoke to gp who has signed me off work to rest til I can be scanned at 6 weeks. Am struggling to stay positive even though I still have sore boobs, bloat etc. Doc at out of hours said that some women spot at the time they would have had a period, anyone else experienced that?

DearDinah · 11/01/2014 09:48

purple I read that too, something to do with hormones causing you to bleed still when period is due, how many weeks are you? So sorry this has happened it really causes you to worry even when doc says it's normal, try to rest up & do some nice things to try & take your mind off it. Some ladies have said they had spotting through all of their pregnancies & gone on to have healthy babies fingers crossed this is the case xxx

topmammy · 11/01/2014 09:50

thisisme could have been palpitations yes, glad someone else has experienced that too so I don't have to worry! :)

Thinking of you Punky Thanks

Purple, I'm sure spotting is not unusual. My mum (midwife) says some women spot throughout their pregnancy and they're fine. Keep resting :)

Purple37 · 11/01/2014 09:50

Am 4 weeks 3 days so the spotting correlates exactly with when period would have been, it's just really frustrating waiting.

rockin20s · 11/01/2014 09:57

Its all starting to feel real took a digi this morning and it said 2-3weeks which matches up with my 4w2d calculations. Still getting cramps on and off all day and do feel more hungry then normal. I have felt a little quesy a few times but not tongue point of wanting to get sick thankfully.

I gave decided to tell three friends only for the moment they all know we were ttc, one has just had a baby, one is ttc herself and the other will guest from the smile on my face anyway.

Won't be telling family till 12 weeks as I really don't think they would keep it to themselves. Diffenetly my sister would tell everyone and the mil also.

It will be first grandchild on both sides so I know they all will be excited.

I am going to book my doctors appointment for late next week I think ans is really Luke a homebirth so I might make a few phonecalls about that this week too.

All my apps are telling me that my the end of my 5 th week the baby should have a beating heart!!!!!!! Ah already!!!

Metalhead · 11/01/2014 10:20

Hubby I'm German and trying to bring up DD bilingual too! I always speak to her in German and we watch lots of DVDs. She understands everything, but only speaks English.

It's been very frustrating at times, but like someone else said, I think she just goes for the easy option as she knows full well that myself and my parents understand her when she answers in English! And I really haven't got the energy to fight her about it by not responding to her unless she speaks German, we'd have constant meltdowns and wouldn't get anything done!

As I see it, I'm doing the best I can and giving her a head start, so if she decides later on she wants to start talking or doing it at school it should be much easier for her.

Hubbythecatandme · 11/01/2014 11:50

metalhead you are right, I am worried of this because my parents and family don't speak English so I really wouldn't want dc to speak English to them! Think I have to tell my parents "if dc asks for someone in English tell them you don't understand"... we'll have to see what happens. I know too many children from bilingual homes who only understands the "foreign" language and I would really hate for this to happen but it's a tough one. Luckily hubby's French is not bad (despite accidentally saying the rudest things ever by accident haha) so think he'll want to help too. Let's wait and see xx

Choccywoccydodah · 11/01/2014 11:52

Haven't read back this morning, but am really really hoping I am staying on this AN thread as my tests are getting darker GrinGrinGrin

Hubbythecatandme · 11/01/2014 11:53

My friend's mum is a speech therapist and she did something very clever where language is concerned. Lo was knowing a lot of words and starting to be able to express herself nicely before deciding to call everything "yaya". She wanted biscuits she would say "yaya" with a big grin on her face. Friend's mum took a random keyring and said "there's your yaya darling". Every time the lo asked for "yaya" she would get given her key ring. Well, funny enough, words like "juice" and "biscuits" came back at the speed of light and "yaya" was abandonned lol!
Hopefully you can do the same with foreign language. if child wants something hopefully if you pretend not to understand they can reply in mum's language? We'll see...

Hubbythecatandme · 11/01/2014 12:00

Newlywed Northumberland border only a few miles away from here, looove pretty Northumberland, have fun there!!
I freaked out big time with lower back and leg cramps last night. Luckily didn't last very long, no blood and cushion helped. Hubby says it must be ligaments stretching. I hope so :s
Not feeling sick since 2am today hurray!! Had some TUC biscuits and sipped some water and it made nausea go away. Get in!
topmammy: story of loving languages dates back to being an only child reading my Mickey Mouse giant annual type thing one summer and finding a guide to foreign languages for making friends at the campsite. Became glued to it and spent my holidays practising "doh-yo-want-toh-pley-wid-me" lol. After that, looong love story with learning English aged 10 and 11, 10 years later I was going a MA as English as a foreign language :)

BexBoo12 · 11/01/2014 12:01

Choccy that's wonderful. When is/was AF due for you? Fx you get a permanent seat, I'm really hoping and praying for you Choccy xxxxx

isitme1 · 11/01/2014 12:21

My dh first language isnt english.
Ds is bilingual. Hes 3 and can understand both english and dhs language. He speaks bita of both too. Cane kinda natural to him as we speak both languages at home

Metalhead · 11/01/2014 12:26

Hubby maybe I can try the not understanding trick with the new baby once we get to that stage. For DD I think it is too late now (she's 3.6), I already have a fight on my hands sometimes to get her to talk at all rather than just whinge at me when she's in one of her funny moods, don't even want to think about the tantrums we'd have if I pretended not to understand her!

I think it probably is the only way to get them to speak both languages, and I guess I wasn't strict enough about it, but to be honest there were so many things that seemed far more important at the time. Hats off to anyone who can stick to this system, for me it was just too hard.

whiteblossom · 11/01/2014 12:26

Afternoon all, sorry not been about for a few days, Ive not had chance to read through but will do this afternoon (it might take me all afternoon Grin). The nausea has really kicked in and Im lolling about, trying to work out what I can eat to make it better. I think ice cold water with rich tea biscuits and fresh pasta so far. Im going to have to keep the biscuits on the bedside I think.

Positive news is that my dh has warmed up. When he finally remembered I had a scan, he did ask and he asked if they found anything to which I rely yes with a big smile on my face, he meant had they found anything wrong so totally shit himself. He didn't realise that the scan I had meant he would see baby/beginnings of and was hugely disappointed to have missed it. Dh has since been talking about how I feel and has admitted it dosent seem real to him yet and again mentioned he would have loved to have seen the scan. And he even put his hand on my tummy today which I thought was a huge step forward. We did have a good chat about things the other night though.

Im still very achy, feels like stretching but its as it Im trying to keep hold of a heavy ball in my uterus which wants to topple up and out the front...does that make sense to anyone? Everything is an effort though.

Ill pop backlater when ive read up whats going on x

Hubbythecatandme · 11/01/2014 12:40

metalhead your parents speak English, mine don't so it would really be heartbreaking for me if lo doesn't speak French. I know it' s tough though, I have seen maybe of my French friends give up for the same reason. Think I will need to put my bad temper hat on because I would be really heartbroken if my lo can't speak to their cousins, grandparents etc :s

Hubbythecatandme · 11/01/2014 12:42

isitme sounds lovely!! Hubby and I often speak French so I am hoping it will come naturally with lo. xx

CumbrianExile · 11/01/2014 13:28

Wow, this thread is moving fast. Just as I think I have caught up there is more pages!
Thanks NewlyWed for the stats! Rather you than me Grin
Was feeling better today til I started cleaning. The bleach smell is really bringing out the nausea!

topmammy · 11/01/2014 14:30

Wow cool story about learning English hubby :)

I feel really sick right now :( :( Feel icky in my mouth and the back of my throat like I'm going to hurl!

I'm meant to be going out for tea tonight but don't think that is going to happen if I still feel like this. Blerrghh.

On other news though I made my first maternity purchase today - a sleep bra! :)

waffles1990 · 11/01/2014 14:35

Newlywed2013 unfortunately the midwife won't have access to your mums medical history no. As hard as it may be for your Dad it is best if you ask, to check there are no possible hereditary things you need to be screened for. Hope he's ok!

Just sent OH out to the shop for pickled onion monster munch. May this be the first time of many!

I seem to have odd 10 minute intervals of feeling sick as a dog then suddenly I'm starving with a random craving

Hubbythecatandme · 11/01/2014 15:03

haha waffes!! I seem to be obsessed with things vinegary or citrusy and lots of salt (I never used to add salts in restaurant now it seems like there can never be enough of it!). My mother in law was eating pickled onions straight from the jar for with her first baby!!
topmammy : is it to support your breast while you are asleep sort of thing?
We have bought a gorgeous (I am biased lol) Mama and Papas cot on ebay (picked it up from people living on estate opposite us! Paid £86, retails at £359) and a ducky bath thermometer because I am paranoid about taking steamy baths. Other than that, nothing yet although Asda have the cutests babysuits with pastel little safari animals, mice, rabbities and teddies. My best friend in France made me bring some back for her as she says her lo found them really comfy and they are gentle on her skin and easy to wash. There, Asda bodysuit at £7 a pack, perfect!!
Hubby and I freaked ourselves out by looking at breastpumps and bottles in Boots today. Hubby summed it up best by saying "what on earth are all these things for? What do you do with that?" lol!!!!
I wonder if Tommy Tipee is any good for bottles etc?? We have the factory not far from here and they have a factory shop where you can get great bargains apparently. Just not sure what we need though and if their stuff is good. Might ask on another thread!!

Choccywoccydodah · 11/01/2014 15:05

Awww they're all so lovely these stories Grin lovely to read on a lazy Saturday afternoon while dh rips our cellar, aka his man cave, apart

I'd love to speak another language!!
