On a cheapskate note, i will definitely be taking my two Littlies to haven courtesy of the sun! Starts today'

ISawNannyPlumKissingSantaClaus · 04/01/2014 16:26

Oh gosh alyss- so sorry to hear your news :( do they know anything about the other twin? Hope you are okay xxx

Minions · 04/01/2014 16:32

Really sorry alyss, take care of yourself x

smile4me · 04/01/2014 16:46

So sorry to hear your news Alyss Sad Is the other twin still doing OK? Hope you are taking care of yourself too XX

smile4me · 04/01/2014 16:56

Spirael Can you use the britax bay safe sleeper with another car seat in the back of the car? Have been drooling over one (we borrowed a capsule for DD) but don't know if it would fit! I really want bubs to be laid flat rather than crunched up in capsule though Hmm

Love hearing people's name choices Smile We are still undecided... with DD I changed my mind at the last minute (ie when she was born) so don't want to get too fixed now Wink And I'm reaaaaaally struggling with boys names! crossing fingers hoping for a girl now!

kally195 · 04/01/2014 17:06

So sorry to hear your news Alyss. My thoughts are with you.

moominleigh94 · 04/01/2014 17:26

Really sorry to hear your news Alyss xx not sure what the next step is for you but if you ever want to talk/vent, this thread is the perfect place to do it :)

With regards to christenings, particularly godparents, what is the ettiquette? Mini Moomin will be being christened because OH's family are religious although he isn't particularly. Do you have family members as godparents or friends? Early, I know, but I'm a bit confused with it all!

moominleigh94 · 04/01/2014 17:28

Ooh NannyPlum how long are the vouchers valid for? There's a Haven park near where I used to live and where family still live, would be great to take the little one there. We were hoping to go in September time - would they still be valid then?

mrsmummytobe · 04/01/2014 17:46

Moomin it's a personal choice but I think that generally a baby girl would have 2 god mothers & 1 god father whereas a baby boy would have 2 god fathers & 1 god mother. That's what's happened at the christening I've been to anyway, but others might have different advice. I like the idea of asking a couple to be god parents- think I'm going to ask my oldest friend & her partner. Then we'll ask another female of hubby's choice I think. Not sure who we'll have as the other one yet. I think relatives are fine as well.

mumof2aimingfor4 · 04/01/2014 17:56

moomin ask the people that you believe will be able to love and support your child as good as you. They are supposed to represent the people you most trust to do right by your child should anything ever happen to you.

We dont have that problem as we're not religious, thank goodness.

MrsFooCough · 04/01/2014 18:02

Alyss sweetie I am so sorry. Lots of love from our corner of East Kent to yours xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
And moominleigh we're having tons of godparents. My MIL and DH's stepdad are really religious so we'll be having a christening. However I'll be asking my best friend and her girlfriend to be godparents haha! Just to upset the apple cart. Shock
Also our best man from the wedding and his girlfriend, they're having a baby in February so it's baby-mad with us four!

Sorry to hear that Alyss I hope you are coping ok and have lots of support around you.

sambababy · 04/01/2014 18:04

:( Alyss I'm so sorry, I can't imagine what you're going through x

Minions · 04/01/2014 18:24

moomin you can choose anyone to be Godparents, not necessarily relatives. I'm Godmother to my cousin's girl (one of three Godparents like mrsmummy says) and with my DH we're Godparents to our friend's wee girl.

It's worth looking at the vows you'll be asking the Godparents to take, it's usually along the lines of promising to bring the child up in the Christian faith, love & protect them and support the parents. You'll take similar vows (apart from the support parents bit :)) but check with the church as it varies between churches.

We've still to decide whether to dedicate or Christen/baptise ours when he/she comes. We both became Christians in our teens and were baptised as adults (full underwater dunking!) so not sure what path we'll take.

Spirael · 04/01/2014 18:33

So sorry to hear that, Alyss. :(

smile4me, testing the Baby Safe Sleeper next to DD1's car seat in the back of our Ford Fiesta is on my to do list! I'll try and persuade DH to help me with that tomorrow morning and then report back. The Fiesta is pretty small, so if we can fit both then most cars should be fine.

I got the car seat out today and neither DH or I could find an expiry date on it. So we're going to assume it's fine, given that we bought it new for DD in 2010!

We went for the traditional 2 females and 1 male for DD's Mentors/Godparents, moomin. Then we split it neatly between family and friends by having DH's sister and two family friends. This time around it'll be my DB and then two female friends.

I say Mentor because we originally just had a naming ceremony, but a (close) member of my family was a bit upset about the lack of a Christening so we ended up doing one of those as well, which they organised on our behalf.

impatientlywaiting · 04/01/2014 18:43

Alyss I'm so so sorry to hear your news. This must be an awful time for you. Thinking if you and your family. Xx

ISawNannyPlumKissingSantaClaus · 04/01/2014 18:44

moomin I think they're valid until then but if not they usually do another later in the year? You only have to collect coupons so if someone else gets the sun you can steal there's. The good parks tend to get booked quite quickly (and summer hols etc)

The other option would be leaving it quite last minute. ?we left it to two weeks before last July) and use the direct haven site- we got an amazing caravan better than my house for £140 8 birth and all passes etc for a week. :)

RuldolfsFlea · 04/01/2014 19:31

That is devastating to hear Alyss. Thinking of you. Thanks

JodeyP · 04/01/2014 19:41

Alyss, so sorry to hear that. Thoughts are with you xx

rebeccax2 · 04/01/2014 20:14

Alyss. My thoughts are with you in this Awful Time.

Xx

Chip86 · 04/01/2014 20:18

Alyss so sorry to hear your news thinking of you and other twin
Take care Thanks

moominleigh94 · 04/01/2014 20:44

Thanks for the godparent advice :) my whole family are staunchly atheist, I'll have trouble getting some of them into the church. We've chosen one so far - one of my best friends. He's been calling himself the baby's gay godfather from the moment he found out (as a joke) but actually we'd like him to be an actual godparent to the baby :) he doesn't know yet Grin

Xavielli · 04/01/2014 20:50

I was raised catholic and most of my friends have baptised their kids. I have 1 godparent of each sex as have all my friends babies.

PotatoPolly · 04/01/2014 20:55

So sorry Alyss, you and your family are in my thoughts Thanks

I'm not sure what to do about godparents, I was raised Catholic and have got lots of godparents, but dh is not at all religious. if we were to choose godparents I don't think it would be for the right religious reasons. Tough one though.

JodeyP · 04/01/2014 20:56

Ah Moominleigh94, it's so lovely asking people. Especially when they don't expect it. My best friend sobbed she was so overwhelmed.

TMI warning but is anyone else suffering with itchy boobs? I didn't have this at all first time round but this time it's driving me a bit insane. Actually when I cream them with moisturising cream, they're relieved for a few hours it if I forget, my gosh, they get really itchy. Usually the left more so than the right. Having loads more side effects this time round, aches, pains, stitch, itchy skin.... And more.

Also, personal question but how much weight have you put on. I'm 20+1 and have put on 7lbs. I didn't track it first time round but am sure I had out on more than this by mid way point.
