I expected more from my care for my thyroid, as I 'know' a consultant endocrinologist from mn who's given me some advice re my thyroxine dose etc. However I sat and discussed it with the midwife at my booking in, and she was quite dismissive saying no extra care was needed at all, except perhaps a couple of blood tests my GP might want.
I talked my GP into starting me on thyroxine, as my thyroid results were borderline for 'normal', but far too low for pg. He started me on 25mg, and I took 50, got the first bloods back and he upped it to 50mg (I explained I was taking that already, and suddenly he decided I didn't need more - despite just 'doubling' my dose based on my blood results!) - I'm currently taking 100 and waiting for more blood tests.
Now I'm passed first trimester it's not quite so important I think, but I'm shocked I've had to do so much of my own research and care. Ah well.
Whoever said about not knowing their blood test results - you should be able to ask the receptionist for the numbers, or get a printout from either reception or your dr. They're you're results and you're entitled to a copy. Just need to be pushy with them.
My health visitor was ok with DS, but I did have an awful one that came over just once. She said I was "exhausting" DS bf him wrong. No advice given, but she said him falling asleep feeding was a sign he was having to try too hard to get milk. She really shook my confidence and massively worried me. Luckily there was a drop in bf group I went to the next day who sorted me out. His latch was fine anyway, she just had no idea what she was talking about!
