jaykay987 · 20/12/2013 14:44

Thanks sleepyness.

jaykay987 · 20/12/2013 14:45

Congrats cold! Wow - and I thought my dates had moved a lot! Hope you feel better soon!

panicmechanic · 20/12/2013 15:07

Lady, I had a scan and they decided that the placenta looked better and now it's bigger the cord is moving a little - that was the original reason for the cvs. Just seen the fetal expert and she has advised that she doesn't recommend me to have an amnio or cvs. She said my harmony test was low risk and although I got a 1:143 on the combined test there was nothing that indicated a problem and my age affected the result. Apparently if you are 42 the moment you walk in before the bloods and measurements you are 1:50. As I am not going for the cvs I am have fortnightly growth scans. Still not recommending me to fly so I will stay put for Xmas

LadyGoneGaga · 20/12/2013 15:48

That all sounds like good news, Panic Grin. And extra growth scans should be reassuring. I have some extra ones due to my thyroid but not fortnightly! Sounds like you are bing well looked after.

Congratulations on a good scan, Cold.

Biffle · 20/12/2013 15:59

Phew! Been a long and hard 13 weeks but just finished work for Xmas and DP has promised to look after me for the whole two weeks he is home.

Stacks · 20/12/2013 16:30

Lady what extra scans do you get for your thyroid? I've my been very impressed with my care with my thyroid, so wondering what the differences are. I seem to get no extra scans or appointments, just see the consultant at 36w. All blood tests and medications are through my GP, who so far seems to know nothing. I've been setting my thyroxine dose myself - then owning up after each blood test what dose I'm taking.

LadyGoneGaga · 20/12/2013 16:44

Well in my area I am referred to the consultant so see them every eight weeks(?) starting at 16 weeks. Think usually extra growth scans at 28 and 34 weeks from memory. Did you mention it to the midwife at booking? Normally they assign you as high risk, hence the consultants appointments.

Bumblebeesmum · 20/12/2013 16:51

Panic that's great news. I know age is a big part of risk so it's right that they look at that - but it does seem slightly odd to combine results. I said to the sonographer - so surely a 15 year old would come back low risk even if measurements were worrying? Oh well they know what they're doing & it's great you've had some reassurance.

jaykay987 · 20/12/2013 17:12

Great news panic

I also have been referred to a consultant for my thyroid. First appointment is mid-Jan so we will see.

I don't believe my meds are currently high enough - but no one will tell me my blood results - just "they are fine", which I don't believe for a second.

Liquidambar · 20/12/2013 17:26

Great news panic. It seems you have a good team looking after you.

Cold great news too :)

Finished my Christmas shopping! Hooray! Feeling exhausted now

chestnutmare · 20/12/2013 17:37

Great news about your scan coldofhands! Xmas Smile

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 20/12/2013 19:06

coldofhands Lovely to hear you had a good scan!
panic Pleased to hear that they've done another scan and reassured you, that sounds much more positive!

Had a bit of a disastrous melt-down in the GP office (we were 10 minutes late and they were like, well, sorry, nothing we can do for you) and after I got to see the GP after all I have another sick line but no advice. DH was in there with me and confirms that it's not just my impression, I just get hmm, yes, hmm, you still sound stressed - but no suggestions, no advice, nothing.

Oh well, at least I can enjoy Christmas now, knowing I'm home with DH for the whole week.

superlambanana · 20/12/2013 19:19

Poor you Bee. Can you see a different GP? That one sounds a bit useless! It's grim feeling that awful.

Glad about your results Panic Smile

Bad news has got me even more fed up - the extension that we have planned since before we exchanged on the house, that I have been desperate for as we are bursting at the seams, has been quoted at between £10-30k more than builders had estimated to us. I am gutted and don't know what to do now Sad

Vickyvix · 20/12/2013 21:14

panic so pleased you have had good news at last. It's a shame you still can't fly for Christmas but at least you don't have to go through the CVS now and you have the reassurance and comfort that your results are low risk. Must be a big weight off your mind.

jay so sorry you won't get your results back before christmas, waiting must be horrible. although on a positive note maybe it means good news for you if they aren't rushing them through i.e if there was a sign of anything to worry about there would probably be more urgency about things.

Congrats on your scan cold :)

Still a bit more work for me next week :( but looking forward to the weekend with DH :)

Vickyvix · 20/12/2013 21:15

super sorry to hear that. Can you maybe shop around for some more quotes?

BaldHedgehog · 20/12/2013 21:49

OMG,I'll never manage to keep up with you if you keep chatting at this rate!I was going to write something last night but DS took ages to settle (as usual when I've got stuff to do) so by the time I finished it was nearly midnight.

I could see there was a discussion about baby books-I never had any but all I can say to first timers is to follow your instinct, and yes,you have one even if you think you haven't.The other thing is that health visitor is not a health authority and some of them talk rubbish.

Stacks I don't know whereabouts in UK you are,I had a problem with thyroid earlier on and was offered additional scan around 36 weeks to check the growth.Ask at your next appointment if it's possible as sometimes they don't tell you what you could get re extra scans/consultant visit.

I seem to remember from the earlier threads that there was a lady here who makes her own soap-sadly I can't remember the nickname but I would be VERY interested how it works? Please? :)

BEEwitched iirc is that you who comes from Germany?

I'm going to go and look at some rubbish on the net before I go to bed as busy busy tomorrow visiting family so probably will end up home late.

I was going to ask you if any of you tried the old wives tale very scientific way of predicting the gender with baking powder?I tried it with DS and it was true,if it really works I'm going to have another boy Wink

Have a nice evening, will pop in before bedtime :)

Redcliff · 20/12/2013 22:13

Hedgehog - I know what you mean as it's so hit and miss with health visitors. I had one that picked up on my PND and got me some much needed help and a different that told me that my DS needed feeding more (I was already BF every two hours day and night) as he wasn't putting on enough weight when in fact she was marking him on the wrong bit of the grid as she hasn't realised/asked that he was born early.

BaldHedgehog · 20/12/2013 22:30

Redcliff don't start me on the first health visitor otherwise I'll be whinging and ranting here all night. This stupid woman wanted me to stop breastfeeding DS as he wasn't putting any weight and put him on the formula.I refused. It turned out DS wasn't putting any weight because he was fighting the bacterial infection (umbilical stump was not healing properly) that she dismissed as "normal".It was breastfeeding consultant who took at swab.

Second hv was a bit better but still-scared me into weaning DS at 5.5 months because "his iron levels will deplete very quickly".Thanks to that I started DS on solids and my milk supply has dropped.

Now I'll quite happily send them on their way with their shitty advice

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 20/12/2013 22:41

Hedgehog Yep, I'm from Germany!

It's DH's birthday tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to taking him for Afternoon Tea to the Inn where we had our wedding tea, and then we'll see The Hobbit afterwards.

BaldHedgehog · 20/12/2013 22:50

BEE i was thinking about you when there was a talk about cravings-currently I'm into soured cucumbers in brine-not pickled, and I thought that you'd know what I'm talking about as I'm struggling to explain it to natives.

I'm not stalking you BTW but was looking at June threads for aaages before I decided to join,I remembered you saying something in the other thread about potatoes with sour milk and herbs.I was drooling then :)
Most people here say "Yuck" to sauerkraut and such things that are "fermented.Sadly no milk available here to make curd chefs as everything is homogenised Sad

BaldHedgehog · 20/12/2013 22:52

curd cheese!

MarlenaGru · 20/12/2013 22:53

Well I am home and in bed after the Xmas party before 11 and I don't even have DD here to wake me at the crack of dawn tomorrow. My dad was so lovely to fetch me. I even managed heels knowing I could just jump into a car rather than walk\train\walk up horrendous steep hill.

Well done on all the good scans and rest results today. Here is to many more! So pleased we are nearly all done with the worst part of pregnancy. I hate the first trimester!

ItsaWonderfulLifeofGru · 20/12/2013 23:03

Congrats on scan coldofhands

panic that's nice news pre-Christmas about not needing the CVS any more.

Have had 3 days of feeling not too bad. Recovering from a bad cold with a lingering cough, but I think nausea has definitely settled.
Have been feeling the baby move quite a bit too this week. Very lovely. 14+2 today
Also made a GP appointment for the day after our return to the UK (3rd Jan) so I can get booked and hopefully get 20 week scan on time.
Really looking forward to Christmas next week especially if the sickness has gone!

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 21/12/2013 03:30

Hedgehog I had a really loooong discussion with my mom about soured milk yesterday, and how it's hard to get milk nowadays to make it yourself - she says even the milk she picked up directly from the local organic farm had something added to stabilise it for transport that made sour milk taste bitter!

I have to admit I am not keen on eating Sauerkraut, but I miss the smell; the local Christmas Market had a Polish Pierogi stall that served Sauerkraut (right next to the Schwenkgrill g) and it made me really homesick.

Why am I awake, after only two hours of sleep? Because after years of not having any issues zonking out next to DH's snoring, I am now completely snore-intolerant and we'll have to make up a bed in the spare bedroom soon so we can both get some uninterrupted sleep. I can hear the Dolce Gusto spewing out some hot chocolate in the kitchen right now because he's up, as well.

SarahAnderson · 21/12/2013 06:30

I am awake too thinking about snoring! I don't know what to do. My husband snores and breathes loudly, and so I wear earplugs every single night. Which is totally fine, I'm used to them and sleep really well. But if we go away and I forget to bring them, it is hell. No sleep. One time we were staying with friends in a tiny crowded Parisian apartment and I forgot my earplugs and ended up trying to sleep in the bath to escape my husband's snoring.

So my concern is, what happens when the baby comes? I really want to do that semi-co sleeping thing where you have a little area attached to the bed. But part of the point seems to be that you get attuned to your baby's movements and little sighs and your sleep cycles coordinate, instead of the baby needing to cry loudly from a different room during your deepest sleep to get your attention.

If I'm wearing earplugs, I won't be able to hear the baby. But I can't sleep at all without them!

Hmm
