Pregnacare are quite 'known' for causing sickness - I think it might be the iron but not 100% sure about that.

I think the most important ones are folic acid and vitamin D (according to current guidelines!) so you could just get seperate supplements?

Bezzabelle · 16/12/2013 15:03

Just had my 16 week midwife appt, forgot how lovely it is to hear baby's heartbeat! 20 week scan on 16th January and will then be half way there- eek!

Are people taking folic acid now past 12 weeks?? I'm only taking vit d.

Vickyvix · 16/12/2013 15:18

Lovely news on your scan super :)

I'm still taking pregnacare, i bought them on offer so will be incising all that I purchased. I haven't had any side effects from them but I guess they affect people differently.

A question for you all re milk, my mum asks if I'm drinking 2 pints of milk a day! I'm not, I can't stand the stuff, makes me wretch at the thought of it - am I supposed to be drinking milk? I eat cheese and have been having yoghurt etc

Vickyvix · 16/12/2013 15:19

Incising?! Sorry, taking!

Redcliff · 16/12/2013 15:25

At my MW appointment they said that I should take folic acid, vit C and D all the way up to the birth! They gave out free vitamins and clearly just said that as the ones they give out have (what do you know) folic acid, vit C and D.

I feel that they is no point in taking folic acid now at 14 weeks and I feel I get enough D in my food and going out at lunchtimes and cant see any where that says you should take vit C during pregnancy. I get where they are coming from - I live is a very deprived borough where I am sure nutrition can be an issue (thinking parents missing meals so kids get fed sort of thing) but I wish that they would just be clearer ie "we find it easier and less confusing for people to give out a muti vitamins but there is no new guidelines that recommend taking folic acid for 9 months"

Redcliff · 16/12/2013 15:30

Vicky - milk has vit D in it but I think a lot of dairy products do as well, maybe that is what she is thinking about. Just looked on the NHS website and in fact they do recommend vit C during pregnancy but just a normal amount though diet rather than supplement.

Riblet · 16/12/2013 15:36

Vix - funnily enough my colleague asked me today about milk, as apparently both times she was pregnant she needed quite a bit of dental treatment and was told it was the baby taking the calcium! 2 pints a day sounds excessive (don't have anywhere near that and I love milk) but it is a good idea to keep intake up through other dairy products, as you have been doing.

Redcliffe - I was given the folic acid, C & D as I live in a deprived area too (even though the leaflet said something about having to be on certain benefits to get them, which I'm not) and she pretty much said the same as your MW about the vits. I haven't taken them since 12 weeks (mainly becuase I forget to) although maybe should restart as rarely get any sunlight atm. I've never heard of the vit C thing either.

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 16/12/2013 15:51

I was just told to take Folic Acid and a B Vitamin. I was on the higher dose of FOlic because of BMI but stopped once I was out of the first trimester - haven't been great with the Pregnacare since then but am trying to take it more regularly again now that baby is hitting the growth-spurt stage.

I hated milk in the first few months but love it now, a nice big glass of ice cold milk is lovely - only I get quite a cheesy mouth afterwards, which isn't nice.

jaykay987 · 16/12/2013 16:14

ooh...this talk of tablets reminds me. I need to start taking my junior aspirin next weekend when I hit 12w.

I just had a crying "epsiode" in the toilets at work. Very embarrassing - I've had two people contact me as the christmas cards I posted have been labelled as no postage paid!! I can't believe it. I would have blamed it on my pregnancy forgetfulness, but I posted them from the post office havng just bought a load of stamps!! AGGHHH. If they are all the same I am going to be traumatised!

Redcliff · 16/12/2013 16:27

Poor you Jay - I told someone the wrong salary the other day and it was picked up someone I manage - the shame. I did send a very apologetic e - mail to the person concerned (I was looking at the wrong column of the pay band ) and was very vocally grateful to the person who picked up on it but still.

Bumblebeesmum · 16/12/2013 16:28

I can't remember who asked when I said I struggled with my back with a sling - but I did give the completely wrong name I have a hugabub - no idea if anything else could be better

mylittlel · 16/12/2013 16:28

Bezzabelle i was told to take folic acid till end of pregnancy and vitamin D, always keep forgetting to take them

mylittlel · 16/12/2013 16:45

Those you already had 16 weeks appt:

what questions did u ask?) i need some ideas

MarlenaGru · 16/12/2013 16:50

I am taking multi vits when I remember. Took them religiously for first 12 weeks but not that bothered anymore. Certainly won't be drinking milk - yuck. Plenty of calcium in non dairy foods (and I plan to be dairy free from 36 weeks to avoid the reflux problems my DD had!)

Jessiebaba · 16/12/2013 17:08

So happy your scan went well super

We had a great scan too and got to see our VERY lively wee buba swimming about Xmas Smile all worries suddenly disappeared! The wee bean was so lively and wouldn't lie back far enough for the MW to be able to get measurements for the NFT so I just need to wait to get my blood tested at the 16 week scan.

Measuring exactly 12 weeks today so I'm clinging onto the June bus with a due date of 30th June!

I went through to see my mum in Glasgow after the scan and we had a lovely lunch out. She already knows but got quite emotional seeing the scan pic - apparently the scans weren't as clear as that 27 years ago! Wink

Hope your scan went well cherry

MarlenaGru · 16/12/2013 17:34

Well done for the great scans!

ohcluttergotme · 16/12/2013 17:35

Well done on those who have had scans today and seen little healthy babies.
Boy my work was full on today. I am counting down, 2 more days then off til 30th December then just working 30th and 31st then off til 6th jan.
Then I'm thinking I'll start mat leave on 17th may, 1 month before I'm due and will request 1st 2 weeks in May off on A/L. So when I return to work on 6th jan will only have 4 months til mat leave. Thinking that sounds good!
Funny how the hormones effect us all differently, my nails are always lovely and strong when I'm pregnant.
I remember when pregnant with dd (now 14) and all my antenatal care was done through GP and she said I had to aim to drink 2 pints of milk a day. I don't like plain milk so used to drink strawberry and chocolate.
Think I need to start that again.

Redcliff · 16/12/2013 17:41

Great news Jess - so happy it all went well for you!

summerbaby2014 · 16/12/2013 17:49

Redcliff- do you live in the uk? Very few foods have vitamin d in them (some countries fortify their milk with vit d but I'm pretty sure the uk doesn't) so most of vit d comes from sun exposure- again in short supply here!

Vitamin d is needed to absorb calcium, calcium alone isn't enough apparently. So I'm carrying on taking the pregnacare tablets as they have the iron/vit d etc but agree that frolic acid isn't really needed anymore.

Saying this I think all the vitamin/supplement guidance is aimed at people on poor diets, and is over cautious too so I don't think there's too much to be concerned about. Vit c is a good example where the diet should give more than enough.

In other news I just got the long awaited nuchal blood test results back and screened 1:100000, so feeling very thankful for that.

summerbaby2014 · 16/12/2013 17:50

Glad to hear others are getting good scan results too :)

summerbaby2014 · 16/12/2013 17:52

ohcluttergotme- 4 months makes it sound scarily close!! I'm still in happy denial
Chocolate milk sounds excellent, I might try that! (When DH isn't looking :) )

CleverOl10 · 16/12/2013 18:05

Congrats on all the good scans today.

My bump has suddenly popped! I didn't really notice as I've always had a bit of a belly but realised today that I can't suck it in and I feel properly pregnant!

summerbaby2014 · 16/12/2013 18:13

vickyvix- keep smiling at those "baby on board" ladies, one day it might be me (SW London crew!) :)
Totally wearing the badge tomorrow after the good results!

NessieMcFessie · 16/12/2013 18:26

I might just find some multi vitamins in the meantime - thanks for all the input!

Jessie - glad you had a good scan - must have been lovely for your Mum!

Cherryjellybean · 16/12/2013 18:33

Another happy scan here! One squirmy baby :) sooo relieved and it was a different sonographer :)
Great news Jessie and super!!
Nessie I have just taken folic acid until recently, and hopefully a very healthy diet in the 2nd and 3rd trimester will make me not feel so bad for the first trimester :)
