Poor you Alex. Hugs and sending you strength to get through this tough time

MotherOfCleo · 04/01/2014 17:12

thinking of you alex

Cavort · 04/01/2014 20:35

Alex I spoke to my Sis about Nephew's reflux and she said he screamed for ages after every feed and would tense up, bring his knees up to his chest, thrash his head around and go really red faced. He then started to refuse feeds so she took him to the GP who prescribed Infant Gaviscon which, along with the gripe water, sorted it out. She said the screaming was at any time of day but was worse in the evening.

I think that's what my friend said too wasn't it Alex, that it was after every feed? Is she upset after every feed now? Hmm On the plus side infant gaviscon also sorted her out immediately.

Gah Lol and cavort I'm now in your club, AF returned tonight. I'd just been discussing how fab it was not having periods with all my Nct friends earlier today so serves me right I guess. Worryingly the first thing I said to DP was that it meant we could start trying for another. Thankfully he's more sensible than me and he reminded me about the whole 12 month wait after a c section / September wedding thing.... How can I be so clucky when I'm having so little sleep still?!

janey1234 · 04/01/2014 23:23

Oh and cavort - good luck for night number one on your own!!

Anyway, which pregnant berry is due next? I'm losing track!

Purplemonster · 05/01/2014 00:44

Perhaps we should do a quick list Janey? It has been a while and I'm losing track too.

BraveLilBear · 05/01/2014 08:40

Sounds rough Alex - really hope you get to see the GP soon. Will also say that your DH sounds like an absolute saint.

I'm so glad you have that support.

Over here, bought the No Cry Sleep Solution yesterday in a bid to make things better before I go back to work as I'm now on a 2-month countdown.

Have been therefore trying to log H's night wakings. This is harder than it sounds.

janey1234 · 05/01/2014 09:55

I can vouch for Alex's DH being pretty bloody amazing Smile

Let me know how that goes brave. Our nights are all over the place still. Thurs night he was up every 45 mins to an hour, whereas last night he slept 7pm-4am with a sleepy feed at midnight, then 4.15-7.15. Last night was lovely but far too rare! I do wonder if perhaps his sleep is getting better again, but that his cold and teething are interrupting it from time to time?

CatsCantFlyFast · 05/01/2014 10:40

Thunder's next. I'm not at all in denial that I'm due immediately after her
Merk, edd 21st March. May well be wheelchair bound by then if my pelvis and groin do not sort themselves out Grin

HazleNutt · 05/01/2014 11:22

janey would be fun for us to have DC2 at the same time - wonder if they would be looking as much alike as V and M. Not on all photos, but on some they could be brothers.

V's nights are all over the place as well. But he has been napping for almost 2 hours this morning, this never happens. And ate some broccoli-pear puree (Ella's Kitchen pouch, lazy mum as I am). Maybe we have passed the growth spurt?

BlearyeyedLol · 05/01/2014 11:24

Oh let me know how it goes brave. I'm pondering whether to give it a try too!
So is it brave next back at work then? What about the others? When do you go?
I'm also wondering if anyone has started the process of ff instead of bf?
Over here I'm back to one night waking at around 1-130 but then L is ready to play at 5. So last night I was in bed before 10 and managed a few decent hours!

Cavort · 05/01/2014 12:54

Hazle if you're a lazy Mum then so am I. The Ella's pouches are a godsend and have seen us through Christmas while out and about and at home feeling lazy. When there's only organic fruit and veg in them I just don't see how they can be bad, it's not like they have any other additives, e numbers etc.

Lol I am in denial that I am going back to work, but in theory it should be mid July.

Last night was another shocker and then she got up for the day at 04.30 Angry , so I have packed her off round my Dad's and I am off to bed for a glorious few hours. Zzzzzzz.....

Cavort · 06/01/2014 09:24

Well after spending 11 hours in bed and getting up to E 5 times including 4-6am, I managed about 7 hours sleep last night. It really saddens me to have to describe that as a better night. Confused After her lovely sleeping over Christmas and New Year, I knew it would all go to shit once DH was away.

HazleNutt · 06/01/2014 10:19

We had the usual, at some point in the middle of the night he won't go to sleep in his bed any more, but wriggles and moans every time I put him there. So lifted him into our bed and then he slept fine. I'm starting to think he might be cold and that's why he likes to sleep between us, although I have more clothes on him than recommended for our room temperature, and room is warm (20-21 degrees). But his skin is quite cool at night, so will try something warmer tonight to see if that makes a difference.

janey1234 · 06/01/2014 10:54

We had a crap night too so much sympathy with you both - especially as you're on your own cavort and you're at work hazle. Sad

AI've been ill for a few days (with a fever that only came down to 39.7 degrees on constant paracetamol Hmm) but felt ok-ish last night. Thought to myself that all I needed was a decent night's sleep and then I'd be fine looking after M on my own as DP is back to work (he's been doing everything, including carrying him up and down stairs as I'm so dizzy, I think due to the earache?). The night before he'd been "good" (two wakes and in our bed from 4.30am onwards) and was hoping for the same.

Nope.

Woke loads, refused to settle anywhere but our bed from 3am. I put the light on at 4am to take paracetamol and he thought it was morning and decided to have an Elodie style party, laughing, blowing raspberries, thrashing around. Took him with me to spare room to let DP sleep. Freezing in there. He was still having a party but finally went to sleep at 6am. I fell asleep about half six. We were both up at seven.

So from 3am onwards I slept for just half an hour, and was up and down a couple of times before that. My fever has gone but throat and ears still sore - DP says it's making my voice weird and it constantly sounds like I'm eating toast?! - and all I want to do is sleep.

Moan moan moan moan moan....

Still, at least it's stopped raining. Oh and happy birthday Alex! ThanksThanks

HazleNutt · 06/01/2014 11:06

39.7 Shock
Is it down now? If not, i can share a bit odd but effective home remedy. Poor you - sill with a non-sleeping baby is certainly no fun.

janey1234 · 06/01/2014 11:41

Yes hazle, I felt horrendous. DP kept telling me i had just got the cold he'd had over Christmas until I got Miles' thermometer out to prove I really was ill! That was on Thursday so I'm feeling much better now. Had a slight fever last night but is ok now. What's the remedy though? Intrigued!

Alexandra6 · 06/01/2014 12:15

Hope you feel better soon janey Sad Can I join in for a moan?! Poor Sophia cried/screamed for four hours last night and it was so heartbreaking! DH was being amazing again and helping, but he's now agreeing something doesn't seem right. Low point was when he was trying to hold her while she screamed and writhed around like she was in pain, making her choking sounds, and he was hugging her with tears in his eyes saying he wished he could take the pain away Sad I eventually sent him downstairs at midnight as he's back at work today so he needs sleep, I got 4 hours in the end but tiredness doesn't bother me as much as the worry.

Spoke to the HV and she said maybe it's colic. I explained that S is fussy and uncomfortable after daytime feeds now too, not every time but for example, she's just been fed and screamed straight after with a bit of cottage cheese sick (usually it's just screaming/choking/coughing). When I described the symptoms, she said it does sound like the baby is very distressed and she said go to the GP. I've cut out wheat/dairy/eggs today to see if it makes any difference, so no bday cake for me!

HazleNutt · 06/01/2014 12:48

Happy birthday alex! Although I'm sure you're not feeling that happy at the moment. Hopefully the GP can help.

janey magical fever remedy - vodka socks. I'm not kidding, very popular in Estonia. Mu mum used to do it all the time if I had high fever and the usual medications would not bring it down. Mix vodka and water 50/50, pour it on socks, put socks on. The alcohol will evaporate and cool you down. Not recommended for really tiny kids, as feet are too small to cool the whole body. For them, just moisten a muslin cloth with the watered down vodka, take their clothes off and rub them all over.

Over here, V had a whole pouch of Ella's broccoli-pear for lunch, he has never eaten that much. Fx it wasn't just an isolated incident.

janey1234 · 06/01/2014 12:55

Def call the GP Alex, it sounds like things are getting worse Sad If it is reflux or colic it's harmless so need to worry but at least if it's diagnosed you can start to treat it and stop worrying....Thanks

janey1234 · 06/01/2014 12:55

And hazle that sounds awesome. I was hoping it was a bit more like the beer jacket I'm so fond of though Wink

Quodlibet · 06/01/2014 13:28

Oh no you poor lot. Alex I can't imagine how hard 4 hrs of crying is. I really hope your GP can help.
Janie you must be so shattered too.
I think we are going through a growth spurt here as feeding demands have gone up, and the nice 4hr stretches at night are gone, but you lot are helping me keep my tiredness in perspective.
We tried W with a bottle of expressed milk yesterday and she guzzled it down - only 30ml or so but gone in less than 5 min. We are just using tommee tippee bottles - do we need something slower flowing or is it not a problem if she's happy? DP got all emotional feeding her, bless!

janey1234 · 06/01/2014 14:29

We've always used tommy tippee, from four days old. You replace the teats as they get older - if you got the bottles from new they should have "1" teats in which are from newborn.

DP loved feeding M by bottle too, a big part of our decision to express milk each morning so he could feed him at night plus it also meant I could enjoy a bit more wine in the evening

BraveLilBear · 06/01/2014 14:58

Fx for a GP appt soon Alex. We've been so lucky with H but had a horrendous screaming in pain session the day after I had a tarka dahl and I also had trapped wind it was awful and only lasted 15 minutes so god knows how hard your night must have been.

And happy birthday! Tho it may not be helpful to cut everything out at once - if it has any effect you won't know which was the culprit. Also, if you lose weight like I did when I cut out dairy a few years back, your milk supply might be hit quite hard.

I know you want to feel like you're doing something to help but it might be worth cutting out all wind-producing food like baked beans, lentils, broccoli, OJ etc first then seeing what the GP says.

Does she have any other intolerance symptoms like hives, spotty skin or bad cradle cap?

BraveLilBear · 06/01/2014 15:02

Quod we ysed Tommee Tippee closer to nature as it's supposed to mimic the breastfeeding action.

Great news about the expressed milk. H used to guzzle his down, too. Big hint though, if you like to express it's really important to do it pretty much every day. It's my one regret as I only expressed when I needes to - maybe as little as once or twice a fortnight - and when my supply settled it's almost impossible to express morw than an ounce. I would love to get DP to do the last feed of the day - but can't unless we switch to formula.
