Enjoyed a glass of wine...but...think I'm in for a rough night. Fed Sophia for two hours straight this evening but in between she's been crying loads and she's just cried for ages, really awful crying fit, so I'll feed her again but I'm confused about all the tears as she can't be hungry surely?! Worried this will go on for hours again! Is it reflux?! DH seems to manage to stay in good spirits but it got to me tonight and I started crying at the sound of her crying! Great role model!

MotherOfCleo · 18/12/2013 00:25

Ahh I feel for you alex. Harvey is being troublesome too, he is just wide awake and has decided he hates his crib. Confused He was so angry when crying with wind this afternoon that he had tears running down his cheeks, god I killed me to see him so sad. Sad

Hope Sophia lets you get some rest, I need to not give in and go for the easy option of co-sleeping, its hard when I'm tired though and I'm sure he senses my weakness. Blush

Fingers crossed they both get sleepy soon and let us get some rest!!

Cavort · 18/12/2013 01:34

Alex it could be reflux, silent reflux, wind or more likely just plain Colic, all of which are very common and very normal. Yes it's awful hearing your baby cry, especially when you feel nothing you can do calms them down, but you are doing everything right and her weight says she is feeding well so really try not to worry about it. Newborns do just cry I'm afraid. Smile

Hope you're ok alex.

Quodlibet · 18/12/2013 16:10

My sympathies with the crying too Alex. We have been doing BF all night parties here: feed, drop off, attempt to put in Moses basket, wake up, scream, feed, repeat ad infinitum between 10pm-5am. Fun! At one point the night before last DP had a sobbing me under one arm and a shrieking baby under the other and was shhing/patting us both simultaneously. Funny in retrospect but not fun at the time.

Good news is milk has FINALLY come in here so my poor dehydrated frustrated little baby can have some fluids in her. I've been hand-expressing and syringe feeding her on top of BF today just to try to reassure myself that she's getting enough, and it's lovely to finally see her looking milk-drunk. It's proper hardcore this isn't it? And just when you work one thing out it all changes and you are back in WTF zone!

BlearyeyedLol · 18/12/2013 17:54

Quod ad Alex I did the crying thing many a times and still do when she cries for too long so I think that's pretty normal!
Good news on milk quod. I bet your boobs are massive Smile
Over here bubba has a bit of a heat rash but at least she seems to be sleeping better. According to wonder weeks she is out of the leap so that could be the reason!

Alexandra6 · 18/12/2013 21:58

Thanks I'm feeling better today though bet I'm not saying that in the early hours We ventured out to do some xmas shopping which went well, and this evening DH made me laugh as I didn't put a nappy on very well and Sophia's poo leaked on his arm! He was cuddling her and saying how much he loved her and then realised she wasn't gazing back adoringly like he thought, just shitting on him Grin

I'm sorry you're having intense nights too quod although I am glad it isn't just me and others have or are feeling like this! It's just their tears and sleep deprivation that are so tough isn't it. She's wide awake now and I'm kicking myself yet again for not napping during the day!

Glad your milk is in quod, let me know how you get on and any tips you try for the nights and settling her. And mother I hope Harvey likes his crib more tonight.

MotherOfCleo · 19/12/2013 08:35

So last week Harvey was sleeping 6 hour stretches at night, the week before he slept 4 hour stretches, now he wont do more than 2.5 hours at a time....it's like having a newborn again....yawn Confused I'd like my sleeping baby back pretty please!

Alexandra6 · 19/12/2013 09:20

Nooo don't say that mother! I keep telling myself her sleeping will only get better and better! Grin

Last night she did really well though - fussed/fed/cuddled/kicked off between 9-12:30, then fell asleep and woke at 4:30 for an hour and a half of partying before drifting off and waking up at 8.10. A great night despite the rough start, as far as I'm concerned! She's looking all milk-drunk now too and fast asleep on me again, so cute.

How are you getting on quod?

lol I'm going to download that wonder weeks app today. Hope the heat rash has cleared up and you're still enjoying better sleep.

MotherOfCleo · 19/12/2013 09:23

wow alex thats fab Grin Nice work Sophia! Harvey is 6 weeks today so I'm hoping the crap sleep is growth spurt related.

BlearyeyedLol · 19/12/2013 13:54

Alex I got the wonder weeks app and book on cav's recommendation and when it said the last leap would last 35 days I thought it was a load of twaddle and it could not possibly go on for that long. And on the day it was supposed to end she slept much better! Could be a coincidence and also the heat but they could also be bang onGrin
Today I gave L a spoon loaded with mashed banana and she absolutely loved it! Then I worried it's too heavy and I should not have given it her but she was staring at me eating it!
As for sleeping we are back on two wakings a night which is fab but the jet lag seems to last forever. She is going down at 4pm (7 in uk) and I have to wake her up or she will go on. And is then awake at 5 which is a bit of a bastard!

Quodlibet · 19/12/2013 17:06

Massive improvement over here, due to the arrival of the cosleeper cot which means she will sleep next to me rather than on me, and partly due to the arrival of Pamela Anderson, who has taken over the BF for me BiscuitBiscuit. We all got way more sleep last night and I have a much much more contented little person here now.

Does anyone know how they work out the weight baby has lost as a %? Our midwife wrote down 9% but I make it 7% (she was 2790, now 2590).

I will look into this wonder weeks malarkey too.

janey1234 · 19/12/2013 17:33

I suspect your midwife can't work out simple percentages quod... Blush

AmandaCooper · 20/12/2013 07:19

Congratulations to Quod and Mr Quod! So pleased to hear she arrived safe and sound albeit dramatically - it must be genetic! Lots of love to all three of you.

Cavort · 20/12/2013 08:20

It's ok, we love a well-wishing gate crasher here. Can we have a carol-singing one next? Grin

Do we know you Amanda cooper or are you a friend of quod's?
We're always happy to welcome new berries you know?Grin
L slept from 7-1am so 6 hours. Then up 3:30 and 6:15 so a massive improvement on the jet lag front!
Weather is cloudy so no beach for us. Boo.
How is everyone?

HazleNutt · 20/12/2013 14:00

we're in Estonia. Flights were quite ok, he got a little grumpy on the second leg, but otherwise fine.
Now he has a diarrhea though, not fun. Explosive stinky liquid poos up to neck every time. But no fever and happy as usual, so shouldn't be serious I hope. Of course nice timing, sister's wedding tomorrow Confused

MotherOfCleo · 20/12/2013 14:24

Hi amanda

Fab news lol, glad things are improving.

hazel that sounds less than ideal poor wee lad. Unfortunately I seem to have the same problem at the moment (although mine doesnt go up my back Wink ) hope I dont give it to Harvey!

Had Harvey's 6 week weigh in this morning and he is now 10lb 5oz, not bad when he came home on 11 November weighing 6lb 15oz. Grin

janey1234 · 20/12/2013 14:43

That's impressive mother!! Poor miles was only 16lb last week. Still, he's still on 25th centile, as he always was, so guess that's ok? Can't believe he's nearly six months old, it's nuts.

Mother - hope you're feeling ok. The last thing you need is to be ill over Christmas anyway, let alone when you've got a baby to look after.

Hazle - have an amazing time. Hope V recovers quickly, we've got a bit of that with M at the moment. Suspect / hope it's just him getting used to solids...

AmandaCooper · 20/12/2013 16:38

Lol what a friendly lot! I probably know some of you from the Conception boards actually as I did a 3 year stint waiting for DH to come round to the idea. We now have a little DS who is 9 months old.

MotherOfCleo · 20/12/2013 16:41

Thanks janey, I think hes nickname of podge may stick Wink

He is on the 50th percentile line for weight and head circumference, she didnt have a tape measure so couldnt do length annoyingly.

She was very nice though, kept saying how alert he was, especially as he kept looking at her when she spoke and then smiled at her. Little flirt! Grin

I feel ok apart from tummy ache an tiredness. Its just scary to eat knowing I will immediately require a trip to the toilet. Confused Blush Not sure the dehydration is helping with the expressing either, seem to have gotten less today....doh.

MotherOfCleo · 20/12/2013 16:42

Cross post amanda, congrats on your little one!! Grin Grin Grin

MotherOfCleo · 20/12/2013 16:44

Sorry meant to say janey, the MW said it was good to stay on the same line so if hes always been on the 25th percentile line I'd say that was good. Grin

Hope his tum gets better soon!!

Purplemonster · 20/12/2013 18:53

hi all, we're up to three two course meals a day here. I am constantly either cooking for her, feeding her, cleaning up after feeding her or washing clothes smeared with food (mine and hers!) and when I'm not doing that I'm breast feeding. There are not enough hours. If she doesn't put some weight on I might actually cry.

Is everyone prepared for Christmas then? (Hazle and Lol you must be if you're away) I feel woefully underprepared, haven't even got the tree up yet Blush
