Congratulations chili !! Hope you're both doing well

alyssa fingers crossed by this time tomorrow you'll have your little one!

How many has that been in the last 2 days, about 4 or 5 babies?

itsliz · 30/11/2013 16:19

Just popping in quickly to say a huge congratulations to you, Chilli! Hope you and baby Emilio get to go home soon, looking forward to hearing how it all went Smile

Off to catch up on everyone else's posts now as DP and I spent all morning at our NHS active birth class (which, surprisingly, wasn't rubbish!!!) and all afternoon getting our Christmas tree sorted Grin Feeling very cosy and festive now!

BohemianRaspberry · 30/11/2013 16:24

Congrats chilli lovely name too. Hope you are well!

yep on fb abcdemma had little James Smile

Half of us will be in November and the other half will be January at this rate! I'm stuck on either ball or sofa today due to fouf pains - junior fully engaged and pushing down hard now which means ouch!

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 30/11/2013 16:25

I went out.
That was a mistake,I'm bloody knackered now!

Still,I bought myself a ton of junk snack or two,and the RL tea and I'm now eating my first meal of the day, macaroni cheese Confused

PistachioTruffle · 30/11/2013 16:44

Well, I've just polished a large Big Mac and fries, and enjoyed every bite. Top quality nutrition for growing a baby, there Grin
I've got mince pies and Christmas cake slices with a cat of tea for later. DH is at work tonight and is hoping I don't go into labour!

WhisperMen · 30/11/2013 17:02

ooh I'm jealous of your McDonald's pistachio Envy

hope things are moving along for you alyssa

the flat is sparkling clean and I'm upset that there is nothing left to do Sad dp will get the rage if he makes any mess though!

extracrunchy · 30/11/2013 17:09

I had a Wimpy! Not the same... Wish it had been a McD's!

Chelsealady · 30/11/2013 17:29

Mmm Mcdonalds...Iv got home made burgers and chips for dinner.

MrsS28 · 30/11/2013 17:32

Here I am with backache hoping it's the start of something! It's a constant lower back pain but on the right side rather than all around. I'm not getting period pains but my bump is tightening every now and again. Am I just being really optimistic?!!

Anyone ever started labour with back ache?

Chelsealady · 30/11/2013 18:23

When the hospital stopped my labour before hand I was having back ache and tightenings then came the contractions a few hours later that were painful. MrsS

Wow girls we really are churning them out now! Congratulations chilli and abc. Hope you are feeling ok and enjoying baby cuddles.

Alyssa if your waters have gone hopefully things will speed up for you. Try and keep us updated.

Well I am absolutely done in. Been shopping this morning and finished off for the baby coming plus a few housey bits and pieces. Then went straight to pub to meet dp. Was out of house 8 hours and it was far too much for me and the bump. Back and hips aching like mad so am in bed. Did get a lovely bouncy chair for him though. Reduced from 70 to 24! Bargain or what. Even better dm was with me and bought it so result all round.

I also got 2 massive nursing bras from mothercare for £6 each and a very gorgeous pram blanket from tk maxx for a tenner.

So loads of bargains but v.v tired now. Think rest of Christmas shopping I will do online lol.

WhisperMen · 30/11/2013 19:39

scoooore going to mcdonalds for dinner as kfc was too busy. get in mah belleh large big mac meal Grin

NomDeClavier · 30/11/2013 19:57

Nearly 140 posts before I join the fray ! I knew I had a busy couple of days and you lot had the temerity to change location but wow….. This is going to be proportionally epic.

chilli congratulations!!!!! Emilio is a lovely name.

Alyssa my fingers are firmly crossed for you. It sounds like things are progressing at least and hopefully your little one will be with you very shortly if not already! Back labour is a bitch. I had nearly 15 hours of unproductive contractions in my back with DS, and then the little bugger shifted and flew out.

MrsS see above! Backache can definitele be the start of labour but my advice would be get on all fours now and encourage baby to shift into a good position.

Woohoo feather Go you with the BFing and slinging success. It sounds like you’re getting on really well Grin The layers sound fine if he was warm enough and you were warm enough. If you were cold then he might have been too. You can check that by just slipping a finger down the back of his clothes, but make sure you wear gloves or he’s always going to feel warm! The only thing I might suggest adding is bootees of some kind. Another option is to get a babywearing extender for your coat – there is someone who custom makes them or you’re the crafty sort. Then just follow the same rules as usual.

better et al I’m going to be with you in January. So jealous of all the little bundles arriving now but if I’m totally honest I’m not ready, even if we did have a mega cleaning session today and I added a load of cleaning products (including an old fashioned floor scrubbing brush) to the shopping list. That’s more in anticipation of MIL arriving though. I have a weekend without DS and DH to make everything spotless (and craft to my heart’s content).

snow that’s lovely that you can add another middle name for the UK. I find it hard enough with unlimited names to give the DC a taste of both cultures and a first name that will work in either. Name choosing is just so much fun!

Glad the MA has come through and you can eat. It’s always a bonus.

dusty glad you guys are doing okay. I had to laugh at the not giving up the day job. With DS my job was teaching English to student midwives, so the MWs on the ward were constantly trying out their English on me and asking for corrections! This time thankfully I teach English to art students and haven’t mentioned the midwives, although they’re slightly freaked out by my preference for medical French over the ‘words of one syllable version’. It’s because I know exactly what the medical term is and how to explain it in plain English but not necessarily the other way round!

sorelip the Close Caboo is a really easy carrier to get to grips with and for a newborn it should be fine as long as you can position them around your boobs. You may find that later on it’s not giving enough support for your lower back because it does concentrate the weight on the upper part with nothing round the waist, but hopefully by that time you’ll be able to get to a sling meet and investigate other options like a mei teir or soft structured carrier, and baby will be bigger too so there’s more choice. If you still have the Moby there are some great youtube videos, not necessarily the Moby ones but for any stretchy wrap. When using your Stokke protect both your back and baby’s hips by avoiding the outward facing position because the baby will be pulling away from you rather than falling into you IYSWIM, but you might find it good for a back carry. It’s not the most comfortable I’ve tried but it’s a safe and relatively ergonomic option and people with lower back problems and big boobs often find switching to a back carry early on is helpful.

mildred just UGH to that. Surely she could have phrased it a little more sensitively?! And of course you’re not automatically excited. There’s the whole labour and scary squally newborn phase to look forward to before you figure out the parenting malarkey.

Hope you’re feeling a bit better now Frigg. Possibly good timing that you’ve got shot of the older DC by the sound of it. Your DH’s boss sounds a prize prick. Hopefully he’ll find a better job soon!

Bohemian all pregnant women should definitely be issued with mobility scooters as standard. The waddle is just so unattractive and it makes getting anywhere in a hurry impossible even if it is technically a good sign.

clare well done for battling through. Are you doing moist wound healing with EBM compresses? I swear EBM has magical properties. The advice to change position is really good, you can also try the biological nurturting position where they’re practically upright on your tummy as you lie back and feeding while lying on your side – all of those positions mean baby is coming from a different angle and reducing the pressure on already sore bits. I agree with oneslic the judicious use of nipple shields can really help, but I’ve never heard the lansinoh as glue tip before! I’ll have to ask my BFC supervisor person whether she’s heard of it!

mum IIRC you have quite flat/inverted nips? So the butterfly shape of the Medela which still lets baby get at the aereola is probably a good bet. Those are the ones I personally recommend to absolutely everyone but they’re especially good where the tissue needs a little extra help. You can also start using the Hoffman technique to elasticate the tissue. Basically get both thumbs, put the on the pinky/red bit just below the nipple, press in and pull them gently away from each other. Nipple shields aren’t a subsitute for a good, deep latch though. Damage to the actual nipple base means the latch isn’t deep enough.

frouby it’s our last weekend just us too. I feel kind of sad about it but I don’t know what to do that’s special!

whisper bless you. I would invite you over to mine to clean but the swirly dust particles may send you into full blown hysterics. Definitely sounds like the nesting has kicked in big time. Might just be the start of something?

You’ve made me order in burgers for dinner now. We have the most amazing place that delivers. Also the kitchen light is broken and I cooked DS’s dinner by candlelight which isn’t an experience I’m dying to repeat. In other news I finally finished knitting all those bootees, and doing the bloody sewing up and stitching on ribbons/binding. They look very sweet… Now just got to pick which ones I’m going to do for DD.

PistachioTruffle · 30/11/2013 20:05

Teehee! I shall cheerfully take the blame for instigating all of this burger eating Grin.

DP looked like this Hmm when I told him where I was going, but it is probably only the third time I've had McDonalds in the whole pregnancy and it was what I fancied, so I ignored him (I have eaten a whole load of other crap though!). Bedsides, he's not the one carrying a full term baby around with him, so he doesn't get to decide!

I had promised myself when i started mat leave I would enjoy this last few weeks before baby arrives, relax and take advantage of being able to do things only thinking of myself, and was determined not to get too caught up in 'THE' due date, and labour symptoms and counting down the days. Of course, now i'm off I'm doing exactly that - over thinking every twinge and working out the possibility of going into labour at any given point Confused I'm going to start annoying myself soon!

Thanks for the sling info, I'll definitely look at both of those! I wasn't sure how I felt about a sling but the idea of being able to get out and about without a huge pram is getting more and more appealing as I notice loads of poor women struggling to get round shops and into lifts etc with them...

NomDeClavier · 30/11/2013 20:15

What is it you're not sure about, pistachio? They are super practical but a lot of worries that people have around them are entirely understandable - you just need to find the sling that works for you. Kinda like most things really....

13loki · 30/11/2013 21:00

Sorry, i am struggling to keep up! Congratulations to all the new mummys. Good luck to everyone having symptoms.
I had to take Älfi back in to hospital today for a check (they looked at her for jaundice and felt my uterus is shrinking. Apparently the reason the dr wrote in my notes for our early discharge was the fact I still feed 3yo DD to sleep. Next hospital appointment Monday morning (I am popping in to work in the morning first to show off Älfi).

PistachioTruffle · 30/11/2013 21:24

Nom, erm, falling over when wearing the sling and squashing the baby Blush or the baby falling out the bottom of the sling. I also worry that if I'm out and about wearing it and I get tired or want to sit down or anything, I won't be able to take it off as I'll have nowhere to put the baby!

Loki, Alfi is such a cute name! I hope you're both doing well.

NomDeClavier · 30/11/2013 22:35

Falling over is a common fear and there's not much you can do really Wink other than good shoes and being really careful. But it's the same as carrying a baby, and you could also do a Peaches Geldof and stumble while pushing the pram and tip the baby out Grin

Baby falling out the bottom try a more structured carrier with a bit that goes round your waist and buckles on and then up between the baby's legs. Mei tei styles if you can cope with wrap type straps, or something like an Ergo with infant insert or a Manducca.

mumoftwoboysS · 30/11/2013 22:51

Yep it's me with the flat nips nom Grin I think I used the Medela nipple shield before- seem to remember the shape didn't cover the whole areolea and was quite small (didn't cover much of boob) so I'd better get some more. Only thing I worry about is that last time - like someone else here mentioned, sorry can't remember who, that it felt like baby wasn't getting enough milk and boob didn't empty as well as when feeding without it. However if I have the pain etc again it might be my only option/relief. So is the Hoffman method just basically pulling/encouraging the nipple out to get it ready so it's not so flat?

Oh and where can I get EBM compresses if things get bad??

Alyssa1978 · 30/11/2013 23:13

update

Lleyton Paul was eventually born today at 7.39pm weighing 7llb 14oz but hes long so his face etc are tiny. he has tons and tons of dark black hair. i had the horrid dreaded drip and gas and air and one lot of diamorphine which I insisted was given before the drip started and it did make a ton of diffetence It was about 15 minutes to push him out so was very scary as he wasn't crying etc as he was stunned cos I pushed him out that quick. Breathing on his own just very stunned, dp cried bless him.

I had no stitches Grin

Very long labour in all but extremely worth it, I got to 6cm only contracting once every 10 minutes then everything stopped, hence the drip Sad

It is amazing what a person can cope with I think when the end result is as amazing as this.

He's only fed once on the boob so far though and kept screwing his face up.

So it's official that ds1 and 3 share the same birth date 3 years apart Smile

WhisperMen · 30/11/2013 23:14

YAAAAY alyssa glad you have finally had your baby. Lovely name.

Kay so guys, I have constant backache, period pains and occasional what I think may be contractions.

I'm 22 but I still feel like I'm too young to be a mum
Anyway had a lot day having 'Christmas' at the in laws so I'm off to bed

Big congrats again xxx
