Hello everybody, thanks so much for wishing me luck and thinking of me on Wednesday. Not had chance to come on since then so just thought I'd post an update before I catch up on all your news
Well, as you know my waters broke on wednesday morning. We got to MLU around 12pm and I was 2cm and having mild contractions. Was 3-4cm by 3pm and 8cm by about 5:30pm. Midwife said she would check me again at 6:30pm but not to expect much to be happening. But by 6pm I was hung over the edge of the bed pushing for my life and there was no need for the check because she could see babies head. Our lovely baby boy was born at 39wks+1, at 7:56pm, weighing 7lbs10.
A smooth labour really even though I didn't get time to use the birth pool, and had to have injections for vomiting and placenta (the cord came away before it was delivered so they had to rush it out) Had gas and air for relief, did try paracetamol and codeine but puked them up.
After the birth was quite traumatic as I'd suffered 3rd degree tears and lost 2 pints of blood. This meant I had to be taken into theatre for surgery and didn't get much skin-to-skin time. That all went to daddy for the next 4 hours!
Clever boy still managed to latch on straight away for feeding though and has been an absolute star. I couldn't move from the waist down after the stitches were done so the midwives just kept coming to my bed and plonking him on me for feeds. Just lay there cuddling all night, best medicine ever!
If you get the chance to use a mirror when you're at the pushing stage then I'd hugely recommend it. It is such a wonderful thing to see your babies head slowly getting closer and closer. Although I was in pain it also made me so excited and gave me so much strength to see that he was on the way.
Right, that's my story, now to catch up on all the other little arrivals that I've missed. Initial congrats, good lucks and hang in theres; I'll be back once I've read through. Could take some time though, last time I look we were only on page 18! x x x
