Thought I'd get us started Smile

Ovaltine and a kindle sounds heaven aunty! I've been working from home trying to get a few more hours in so just shut down my laptop.

Has anyone started thinking about names? I can't think anything else. we've always been sure on the boys name but can't decide on a girls name. Roll on gender scan! X

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 11/12/2013 21:44

My name list is getting longer instead of shorter. Ooops...

MrsCharlieD · 11/12/2013 21:49

I think we're down to just 2 girls names now but i can't decide between the 2. I want something not top 100 but not too out there that the poor child will resent me all it's adult life. current top faves are elena and Autumn x x

Dipsey00 · 11/12/2013 22:22

Hi, thought I would check in as been watching for a while. Is anyone else constantly thirsty?

Mitchell2 · 11/12/2013 22:39

dipsey yes! But strangely don't pee as much as I think I should with all the fluid.

misscharlie - due to the prenatal testing I had, we know that it's a girl which is good as we both already agree on a name. Still call her squirmie as don't want to jinx it. We also have a few back ups but both of us are pretty set on this one. Not telling people though as it's a bit unusual and don't want people to put us off.

hackneybird · 11/12/2013 22:44

beewitched everyone will get over your sil's elopement soon enough!

dipsey I'm thirsty a lot too. I downed a pint of squash earlier and it was so delicious.

Regarding slings, I'm going for an ergo too! I have a baby bjorn in the early months but will go for an ergo once it gets bigger.

Pram wise I'm going to use my Maclaren XT from when we had DS, if I can get the dodgy brake fixed - it's been well used! Would love to buy a new one but we're also doing up our house and so £200 could get a nice light fitting or something else lovely!

coldofhands · 12/12/2013 06:30

Morning all. Annoyingly I've been awake since 3 - of course when I've got a video conference later on.

We had a sneaky look at prams last night, quite liked the Cossato giggler (?) as it was light and easy to manoeuvre. but then I panicked about tempting fate and we had to leave the JL baby dept. I'll be so much calmer once we've had the scan next Friday

ohcluttergotme · 12/12/2013 06:31

Morning ladies, just checking and apologise as not really been in thread.
Been so exhausted with work and 2 children and either one of my children always wants my I-phone or other is on lap top so never get a chance to come on.
Glad to hear of those getting good results on nuchal fold screen.
The sonographer couldn't get right measurements for me last week so back this morning, will be lovely to see baby again.
I'm another who's not feeling 2nd trimester energy yet, hope it comes soon.
Wishing all JuneBug mummies well Smile

ohcluttergotme · 12/12/2013 06:33

Feel your pain coldofhands, I've been awake since 4 and now feel so tired.
Good luck for today Smile

NessieMcFessie · 12/12/2013 07:09

Very sorry for your news Pickly - fingers crossed for the future.

NessieMcFessie · 12/12/2013 07:14

Morning All - it is ages since I have popped in here - I hope things are going well for all.

All good here - it is weird reading all your posts - I have never been pregnant (this stage) in the UK so not getting the same experiences as you all. I had an appointment this week (13-14 weeks) and I feel like I had every test possible! Did anyone else get an ECG?! Doc said it was normal! No scan though as the machine was broken! Got to hear the lovely heartbeat. I will be back in the UK for 3 weeks over Christmas (I can't wait!) so might try to sneak in a visit to the midwife (I have so many questions) - I feel like although I have done this before (this is number 2) I am way more freaked out this time.

And there is the small matter of the revolution going on in the country at the moment.....and it is -10. All very dramatic!

I will try and read back and catch up on all the news....

MarlenaGru · 12/12/2013 07:28

nessie a revolution does sound dramatic. Excuse my ignorance but where are you? I have a friend due similar time to me in Japan and she has had several scans and several check ups already.
Last time I had a friend due in Israel at the same time as me and there they pretty much do all tests as standard. She had to fight to not have an amino despite being very low risk! She wanted a home birth and had a fight on her hands!
So interesting to see the differences. Quite pleased I am in the Uk as my home country has a ridiculously high c section rate.

ElizaB3 · 12/12/2013 07:44

Good luck with your conference today Cold, I have a huge presentation this afternoon too. Got home at 1am from a work event last night (couldn't leave before as colleague was driving) just about dragging this poor bean from pillar to post. Can't wait til Xmas!
Glad your non-scan went well Nessie

Redcliff · 12/12/2013 08:05

Morning newbies and welcome . I had a boys name pop into my head this morning which I really like - will run it past OH and see what he thinks . We already have a girls name but boys seem trickier naming wise some how.

We have a pram from last time that needs mending but tempted to get one with a car seat. We don't have a car so would be nice to get the train to meet my mum and just to be able to pop baby in her car would be really useful .

MarlenaGru · 12/12/2013 08:31

I haven't spoken to dh about names but I know what he wants for both based on discussions last time. I am not sure about either so I think there will be arguments. He will probably win though as he is stubborn. I might give him name choice if he agrees we don't find out gender! Negotiation!

Emmazers · 12/12/2013 08:49

SCAN DAY! Grin Grin Grin

And I'm feeling so much better I even had two cups of tea yesterday! So happy my beloved tea drinking skills have returned Smile

Sorry I've been insanely busy trying to catch up on all those pre-Christmas tasks I should have been doing whilst I was lying on the sofa feeling like death and haven't caught up yet but hope you're all groovy x

MrsCharlieD · 12/12/2013 09:09

Good luck for your scan Emma!

I was up at 5 as the kitten escaped outside when Dh went to work. I was walking up and down the street in my dressing gown trying to find the bloody thing, oh the shame! She finally trotted in shortly after without a care in the world. Grrr.

Just at work now and all our systems and email is down. This doesn't look like being a good day x

SarahAnderson · 12/12/2013 09:10

Inspired by all of you I spent hours googling prams and slings yesterday. Think we'll go for an Ergo initially (get it pre-birth) and get a Bugaboo Bee only after the baby's arrived, if we decide we need it. I'm in London and go everywhere on public transport so need something practical for that. Plus we live up 3 flights of stairs!

I'm also thinking about exercise a lot these days... both for now and for after the birth. After 3 months of 'the beige diet' I'm keen to get back into healthy eating and exercise habits. Had a pilates personal session last week which didn't feel like much of a workout, disappointingly. I'm going to try a class tonight but if that doesn't feel any better then I'll have to try something else. It's so cold and dark outside that I am finding it impossible to motivate myself to run in the mornings.

Thinking ahead and combining the two issues (exercise and prams), does anyone have any advice on prams you can run with? I know my sister (who is a triathlete) and her husband used one, but that was in a different country.

Vickyvix · 12/12/2013 09:11

Welcome biffle and wicked

Congrats on your scan sarah and on your results MrsCharlie

Yey emmazers good luck for your scan

I told my work yesterday. My boss did a great job of appearing to be genuinely happy - I have no idea if he actually is pleased for me but it made me feel at ease. Colleagues were all lovely too. I managed to stay at the Christmas do until midnight but it was a struggle, everyone else was wasted by 9pm!

cjbk1 · 12/12/2013 09:58

genuine question; my problem with using slings while out alone with baby was; how do you go the the toilet or sit down for a rest esp when baby is slightly bigger than tiny? I love 'babywearing' just find it a bit hard Hmm
sarahanderson the Pilates studio I went to throughout 3rd pg always gave me a good (reformer) workout sadly I can no longer afford £55pcm for 1 class pw Hmm so been going to cheap mat work in a church hall which makes me want to go to sleep....

NessieMcFessie · 12/12/2013 10:10

Good luck with your presentation Eliza - hope it all goes well.

I can't even think about names! DH almost divorced over DD's! There is no way we are ever going to agree on another one!

Hope your scan goes well Emmazers.

Lmf679 · 12/12/2013 10:30

Emmazers hope the scan goes well.

I've started to look at prams online, what a minefield! I never realised there was so much choice. I think I may have to take a trip to John Lewis and road test some. So far I like the look of the bugaboo, Icandy and uppababy vista. Although the mamas and papas sola also looks good and is a fraction of the price. It's so confusing!

wispaxmas · 12/12/2013 10:44

Sarah, sorry I can't offer advice about jogging prams. Have you tried looking at the mumsnet reviews? I've found them helpful for sorting out the good and the bad in terms of things to buy.

Lmf, definitely see prams in person. I didn't think I would ultimately find too big a difference between the all terrain ones, but they all felt so different. I had thought the buffalo would be heavy to push because it is so heavy, but it actually was easier to move around and others that were lighter. Some of them feel rather flimsy, some of them are really awkward to fold down, there's a lot of difference there. Have a few ideas of what you want before going in, though, and like I said above - read some mumsnet reviews!

My husband got the history job!! We are very pleased - there are cuts going on at work meaning my maternity pay is at risk & my husbands a stay at home dad - because he hasn't taught in years lots of agencies refused to even register him for supply roles. He's landed a 1 term post that starts after Christmas in what seems to be a great School. 1 of his competitors was a man in his 60s with a huge amount of experience who made a number of comments implying he felt it all an unnecessary formality & he had the job (my husband believed the other man had the job too tbh!) but my husband's observed lesson went down a storm & he got on really well with the Head of History & with an absolutely massive stroke of luck the School have just introduced Politics at ALevel & so were very interested in his years since History teaching which have mostly been in the Political system (going round country helping areas run campaigns / advising MPs etc) so bingo!

A bit boring & off topic ha but I'm just so relieved as when agencies wouldn't even put him forward for 1 week roles due to the number of years gap I was beginning to think there was no way for him to get back in & if I lose my job things could quickly become extremely difficult!

Marlena - re the slings. I tried something possibly called babasling ? I could be completely making that up. It's hard to remember it's been so long. I found it was ok for a quick walk to the shops but after a while my back would hurt later on if I'd worn it much.

Prams are a nightmare to choose! In the end I went with Quinny Buzz 4 because I had a Corsa at the time & not many prams would fit, it is a Dutch brand meaning the handles are taller (I'm 5ft 10) so far more comfortable for me on my back (I underestimated this until I had to borrow 1 for a day once & after a few hours could feel it). It annoys me because it squeaks a bit & it's had probably 4 punctures which are always at the worst time and so irritating but otherwise have loved it.

Not sure what to do with a by then just turned 2 year old & a newborn. He loves to walk & run so I'm not sure if he'll agree to stay on a buggy board. Some have suggested sling for newborn plus pram but I'm not sure if I'll have same issues with my back with a sling. Or I upgrade to a beast of a double & start all the researching again! The icandy doubles look quite nice.

Decisions decisions!!

ohcluttergotme · 12/12/2013 10:56

Good luck for scan today emmazers.
Had 2nd scan this morning and the sonographer managed to get baby to stay in right position so hope all well.
We've got a nice, modern silver cross that we used with ds, really loved it and excited going to be able to use it again Smile
