PMSL at the image of you munching your mop in labour ward frodo

good luck at mw's dreamy

eeny & booby, can you train to be a mw without being a nurse in england? so , over here you have to be a nurse first before you can even start mw training but i would have loved to do it

frodofitz · 13/07/2006 14:25

Cheers eeny but seriously i don't need encouraging, i am drooling at the thought!
I was thinking about getting a job in Asda last night when i had to call in for some supplies...i couldn't afford to work there i don't think but an evening job would be far more suitaable than my very easy 9-5 mon to fri job...i'm just bloody spoilt! Why is it we always want just that little bit more!
I'm totally not sure about the work thing, is occupying my thoughts though, might have to go back after 4 months as i don't think we could afford to go on SMP even for 2 months. Every time i mention working Tax Credits, someone gives me a different answer, so i really have no idea on what is going to be best for the work/life situation.
Any ideas?

pink ive looked into you do either adiploma or degree depending on exam results ie gcse/a level then on th ejob trainming from wat i can gather gonna mention it to my mw when im there in a bit

if i dont faint when she sticks the big anti d needle in

eenywifemum · 13/07/2006 14:29

Pink you do have to be a nurse first, so it would take 4 (or more?) years to qualify as a MW. So I'm not sure Sal and I could afford for me to do it but I would like to look into it and try. In a min I'll get the link about how you go about doing it and I'll post it for you & booby.

Booby I resent email, if you havent had it yet you can email me at yyem at normans dot wanadoo dot co dot uk and hopefully it will work! confused!

Frodo Sorry I dont know anything about tax credits! but they are bloody confusing!

Salamander · 13/07/2006 14:29

POOR JAN!!!

I know how bad that can hurt

eenywifemum · 13/07/2006 14:30

janeggybee sorry! sounds VERY unpleasant! poor thing

dressedupnowheretogo · 13/07/2006 14:33

eeny i didnt see anything about having to be a nurse will look into that thanks for the heads up on that will try emailing you

janeggybee · 13/07/2006 14:33

i applied to train as midwife a few years back and didnt get on the course. i fulfilled more than the basic requirements (have 2x HNC in chemistry and biology) and worked as care assistant in my off shift days for a year (was told i needed to do this). after working myself to death, i think i failed due to handwriting or something.

Eeny
LOL at resenting e-mail

"I resent e-mail"

PinkTulips · 13/07/2006 14:33

ouch jan, might be for the best in the end if it eases the swelling a bit... ouch though. like someone(booby?) said though, if you can manage penis finger without fainting birth wil be a breeze... at least in labour you get a break between contractions.

YellowFeathers · 13/07/2006 14:33

lol Sal

Jebee, soak it in really hot water. That might draw some of the stuff out.

Salamander · 13/07/2006 14:34

Don't mention Tax Credits!! arrghh

PinkTulips · 13/07/2006 14:36

the joys of being an unemployed bum... my wages stay the same before and after birth... not really enough to live on comfortably but at least i don't take a pay cut for daring to breed!

dressedupnowheretogo · 13/07/2006 14:38

i am unemployed as you all know i faced no luck trying to get a job whilst i was pregnant stupid employers but will be getting ma soon yeah

janeggybee · 13/07/2006 14:39

i would like to know opinions about inductions. feel free to speak your mind (we are all nice people and wont attack anyone). i am considering asking to be induced if no children have fallen out of me by 40weeks. i dont fancy hanging around for 2 weeks not knowing whats going on. some say you should let nature do its thing but i dont fancy walking around asda and my waters breaking.

OP posts:
dressedupnowheretogo · 13/07/2006 14:41

i dont think they will do it before 10 days past your due date in notts but they do a sweep at 41 weeks here

Salamander · 13/07/2006 14:41

Its a terrible crime isn't it Pink?

think how different it was just 15/20 years ago

weren't there far more one income families?

janeggybee · 13/07/2006 14:42

i have heard of people in my area (wirral) who have requested induction and got it. not sure what angle they tackled it from tho'

OP posts:
dressedupnowheretogo · 13/07/2006 14:44

im off for my needles see you all later

Salamander · 13/07/2006 14:45

Bye BOOBY!

janeggybee · 13/07/2006 14:45

i'm off to the supermarket. finger is no longer leaking!!

OP posts:
eenywifemum · 13/07/2006 14:46

Sorry Janeggy I dont know anything about the induction policies at my trust. You can talk to your MW about it before hand and maybe she can arrange something for you?

Booby I found that info on becoming a MW. It says in a nutshell, you have to have a MW qualification which takes 3-4 yrs UNLESS you already have a nursing qualification in which case the MW one would take less time. There are LOTS of website addresses given, I will email them to you because it will take me an hour to link to them all on here!! If anyone else is interested in the web addresses let me know and I will get Sal to do it tonight as he is a lot quicker at linking than I am!

PinkTulips · 13/07/2006 14:50

it's ridiculous sal, i know some women want to work and are happy enough to go back but its unfair that those who'd prefer to be a SAHM and be there for their kids no longer have the option unless their husbabnd is extremely well off. at the minute my dp can't get a job as it would actually leave us with less money if he was working how insane is that?

jan - like i said to Feathers the other day, AFAIK you can only be induced if your cervix is ripe and ready for labour. theres loads of things you can be doing even now thought o try and encourage your body to go into labour naturally at term.
raspberry leaf tea/tabs
lots of walking
lots of squatting
lots of sex
massages with clary sage oil
eat tonnes of pineapple
it's a hippy one but meditation and visualing your cervix thinning and opening

i'm forgetting loads i think....

frodofitz · 13/07/2006 14:54

Off to get emma's diary freeby pack and spend some advantage points at boots seen as i have no money whatsoever and getting withdrawls....ah so that would be why i'm skint!

Are we on on an evening, dh fishing tonight so need to hog PC!
