pearl your miscarriage risk actually lowers to 2% (where it stays) at 10w+2. People usually refer to first trimester as this aligns to when to get your first scan. If your first scan happened to be at 10w+3 and all is well......you are out of the "danger zone".
I did have a link that showd cm possibility by day.....but I can't find it now.

So we told PIL after lunch. The grandparents/aunty books went down well. Took mil a few minutes to digest, but fil got it immediately!

Seems odd we've told three people!

Roll on next weekend to start telling my side!

jaykay987 · 15/12/2013 14:20

mrsb I would have thought it was fine. I'm not worrying too much about that sort of thing but I'm not a doctor

AuntieMaggie · 15/12/2013 14:21

Yay - well done jaykay :) we're just gonna tell people on the phone probably the minute we leave the hospital if all is ok Grin

DoctorDonnaNoble · 15/12/2013 15:13

I'm fine all. Didn't go for run as DH finished work late last night so he didn't pick me up from my mum's until 1 and then we had to go to supermarket and out to lunch. Busy times. Glad everyone seems to be doing well.

elliejjtiny · 15/12/2013 15:32

zing My waters have an annoying habit of breaking before labour starts. By the time I start having contractions then I've got midwives and dr's telling me to hurry up or I will have to be induced. So then I get all stressed and everything stops.

With DS2 and DS3 I was lucky. When I gave in and let them induce me things suddenly ramped up and they shot out like rockets. With DS4 because of his cleft lip and palate he wasn't swallowing much fluid so it wasn't his head engaging that caused my waters to break, they just exploded. DS4 was lying awkwardly and not engaged at all so I had a C-section. This time I can't be induced if my waters break early because of my C-section with DS4 so if my waters break with no labour I will have to go straight to C-section. Also there will only be (whispers) 13 months between DS4 and DC5 if I go full term just to complicate things.

I'm hoping to get a sympathetic consultant who will help me avoid the stress and nagging when my waters break so I've got a fighting chance of going into labour. With DS3 I got the SOM to agree that I would go into hospital when my waters broke and then they would leave me alone for 48 hours. I spent 48 hours chilling, eating ice cream and watching films. Got to the hospital and I was 3cm. By the time the drip was set up I was 5cm and I persuaded the midwife to leave it for a couple of hours. When my time was up I was on all fours mooing and DS3 was crowning!

For some reason with DS1 my waters didn't break until I was pushing but he always likes to be different Grin.

10+0

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 15/12/2013 16:59

ellie

that's a tricky situation - all you can do is hope that contractions start before the waters break.

funny how we both had ELSC with our 4th! did a lot of people tell you "what a shame!"
I heard that a lot, still don't know what they meant.
like I almost made it?Confused

I think you need to bribe baby to not pull the plug of the "bathwater"!Grin

for me it's the same - either contractions start or ELSC/EMSC.
can't be induced.
I guess they would break the waters to speed up things if already in labour, but I have Strep B, so if the waters break at anytime it's hospital straight away voz we'll need antibiotic drip.
then will see how things go from there.

It's the most unpredictable thing, not two of mine so far were the same circumstances or started off the same!

NancyinCali · 15/12/2013 18:06

I haven't been on for a little while. Sorry to hear your news donna.

8+1 today and I have a little bump. Pretty sure it's not just bloating. I expected to show earlier with DC2 but even so. Also getting more nausea. Feeling a little more real now!

kim222 · 15/12/2013 19:25

Ellie my little girl 11months has a cleft palate, op in feb, will be 18 months apart with this baby. I'm seeing consultant at 12 week scan to see what labour I can have. With dd I had low fluid and she was low birth weight even though full term, had to have emergency csection in the end as heartbeat dropped and didn't recover, hoping for a lot less traumatic birth this time!

Pearlsaplenty · 15/12/2013 19:44

Thanks jaykay I got confused as I thought that second trimester ended when the placenta takes completely over at 12 weeks but maybe this happens earlier at 10 weeks. My scan is this week so I will count that as the end of first trimester for me, just want to be in the second trimester!

jaykay987 · 15/12/2013 20:03

I think technically the first trimester ends at 13w+3 but that's only a marker that we're a third of the way through, rather than when mc risk decreases or when placenta takes over or another physical marker.

All that is certain I guess is we that we are a day further along than yesterdayGrin

So I say count your 2nd trimester from whenever suits you!

MrsB2013 · 15/12/2013 20:36

Thanks Auntie and Jaykay!

Got my 12 week scan on Weds, getting really nervous now and worrying about having another blood test Xmas Hmm

Can someone please shed some light on my problem? Since about 3-4 weeks I've been sort of bunged up. I haven't got a cold but when I lie down I feel I can't breathe and have to breathe through my mouth which dries and then makes me retch. It probably sounds v silly but I feel I'm going to die and choke when I am in bed Sad.
Really dreading bed time...

coco808 · 15/12/2013 21:37

jaykay you always have the lovely answers I want to hear about chance of miscarriage Smile reassures me.... you must be looking forward to telling the rest of your family

AuntieMaggie · 15/12/2013 22:46

MrsB Yep dreading the additional testing at the 12 week scan too.

coco apparently something can happen to the nose in pregnancy that causes stuffiness and feeling like you've got a cold - some ideas here on relief

SmallOlympianBear · 15/12/2013 22:58

Blue, 1.5-2 hours of wakefulness seems to be the norm right now. Hoping I sleep through tonight, especially as I should have gone to bed earlier. On the other hand I have the 10 week Harmony scan tomorrow and I'm going though some rubbish at work at the moment, so brain is unlikely to switch off. Wishing you a better night!

Coco, unfortunately I think it may be another one of those delightful pregnancy symptoms..

SmallOlympianBear · 15/12/2013 22:59

...no idea why it happens, but I definitely remember t from last time.

NancyinCali · 16/12/2013 02:43

Yy to the insomnia and congestion! Had both last time around too. Such fun! Wink

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 16/12/2013 05:20

so just when I thought I might make it sick-free this time last night's dinner did it. right on cue as weeks 10-11 are typically the worst for me.

I felt so miserable. Sad

I don't know if any of you have the same problem, but I loose bladder control when throwing up.
it's the only reason I'm worried about being sick anywhere else but home.

my stomach still hurts and I'm since 3am, feeling so awful I can't fall asleep.

I'm now worried about the whole Christmas week, we are supposed to travel on Boxing Day and also be at PILs on the 28th - I don't think I can do it without telling everyone.
but I don't want to tell until I have my scan which won't be before the 30th.

I really do feel sorry for myself.

jaykay987 · 16/12/2013 05:52

Coco - glad it helps I just hope it was from a reliable source! I wish I could find the link again for you...it looked reliable to me.

Mrsb - looking forward to your scan? My nhs scan is Wednesday too. What time is yours? I'm hoping for a good picture. I showed my ones from last week to mil yesterday and they're difficult to make sense of!

Small - no idea why,but the nose is definitely affected by pregnancy. - I am sooooo snotty! Urgh! Good luck with your Harmony. Are you hoping in London or elsewhere? I'm waiting for my results. Keeping my FX that it works given my high bmi!

Zing - that sounds horrid. Hope it passes quickly. My mil told me any sickness "was all in the mind"! That was helpful!!?! Luckily I've not suffered as badly as you, but the waves Ive had are definitely real to me! Smile

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 16/12/2013 05:59

Jay

she is welcome to come and clean up the mess! Grin

all in the mind, my arse.

BlueC2 · 16/12/2013 07:38

olympianbear hope your night was ok-thinking of you for your Harmony stuff today. I thankfully had a better night though been awake since 6am and now having porridge as am SO hungry!

zing not uncommon for me to wet myself when being sick Blush often more leakage than full on but still not great-my pelvic floor wasn't wonderful before DS1 but now worse! you're just 1 day ahead of me as I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow. Really hope your sickness is short lived.

Hope everyone has a good day- DS1 is constipated and v unhappy with it so I have another fun day ahead Hmm hoping it 'clears' v soon but preferably before we head out or could be a fun nappy change?!!

BlueC2 · 16/12/2013 07:40

PS jay I don't think your MW can have ever experienced pregnancy nausea to make a statement like that! Silly woman!

jaykay987 · 16/12/2013 07:59

Haha blue. 'Twas my mil, not mw! Grin
