Aha, my folder doesn't have that info. It has some details about folic acid and aspirin doses but they don't apply to me, according to the criteria listed.

When I am talking about counting calories and that 1840 was my recommended cal count - that is not me restricting my diet. That's me counting calories to reduce the amount of weight I will put on as that is my maintenance level based on current weight and activity levels. If I ate 2000 calories a day I would be over-eating significantly, based on my metabolism.

As my BMI is 32 I am not supposed to put on more than about a pound a month during pregnancy - I've already put on 4 and am only at 10 + 3.

Jeezaloo · 11/12/2013 03:12

Donna Good luck for the scan today!

I read somewhere that now I'm 9 weeks, I can expect to be putting on 1-2lb a week. This seemed a little much, but I'm happy to go with that.

ismarah As for calorie counting, I think it's actually a good idea because you tend to eat healthy filling foods which are better value for the calories, iykwim. As long as you don't have an unrealistic calorie intake.

Anyway, good luck all. I'm booked in for my scan on 11th Jan, so until then, just keeping my fingers crossed, and doing some major glass swapping with DH over Christmas. I don't want to tell anyone until I know for sure.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 11/12/2013 07:23

Thanks, but scan is Thursday at 2.
Feeling a little fat today. I've gone up a size (mainly to fit in my stupid giant boobs and expanding tummy).
Wish I wasn't so hungry all the time Hmm

AuntieMaggie · 11/12/2013 07:58

I've found that my weight varies on a daily basis anyway - some days I'm really bloated and then the next day it goes down. At 10 weeks the uterus has doubled in size so that would account for some of the weight.

I was advised it would be 1-2lb a week too that includes baby, amniotic fluid, bigger uterus etc as well as any fat the body is storing in prep for breast milk. 1lb a month is really low and wouldn't account for anything other than the weight of the baby (if you put on 9lbs and the baby weighs on average 6lbs thats not much for amniotic fluid or anything else is it?)

Boboli · 11/12/2013 08:17

Hi all, I haven't posted in while but I'm afraid I'm hopping off this bus. I hope you all have happy healthy pregnancies - good luck!
xx

ismarah · 11/12/2013 08:50

Boboli So sorry for your loss.

I need to correct myself - I was muddling up kgs and lbs. An overweight woman should put on no more than 7-11 kgs / 15-25lbs. But that's still only about 2lbs a month, rather than per week.

Jeezaloo · 11/12/2013 09:24

Boboli So sorry to hear that.

Donna I was convinced today was Thursday! Good luck for tomorrow then Smile

Auntie That makes sense. If I remember rightly you end up with 25% more blood in your veins too by the end of pregancy, so there's plenty to blame the weight gain on and not just the biscuits I can't stop eating

BlueC2 · 11/12/2013 09:35

Morning all. Well I just feel exhausted despite a good sleep last night. Today is last day for this week that DS1 with childminder and I have a huge list of stuff to do but just can't seem to get off the sofa at the moment! Re weight gain I put on quite a lot with DS but mainly on hips/thighs and boobs! I would highly recommend breast feeding as the best diet I have ever done though as managed to lose all the extra weight without watching what I ate :) though I did have o start being careful when DS hit 1 and dropped to just 2 feeds a day. Speaking of breastfeeding I am still feeding DS now 18Mo and he seems even more keen on his mummy milk than ever-no idea how I'm going to wean him off before baby arrives Hmm

AuntieMaggie · 11/12/2013 11:54

I've put on about 4lbs too but my boobs must make up for half that - they're huge! My clothes still fit the same though apart from my bras so I'm not going to worry too much as long as I'm eating healthy. Though I did have a panic when the mw weighed me at 3kg heavier than I am - I had to weigh again as soon as I got home!

Copied from the babycentre as I found it interesting:
•At birth, a baby weighs about 3.3kg (7.3lb).
•The placenta, which keeps your baby nourished, weighs 0.7kg (1.5lb).
•The amniotic fluid, which supports and cushions your baby, weighs 0.8kg (1.8lb).

The other two thirds of extra weight is due to the changes that happen to your body while you're pregnant. On average:
•The muscle layer of your uterus (womb) grows dramatically, and weighs an extra 0.9kg (2lb).
•Your blood volume increases, and weighs an extra 1.2kg (2.6lb).
•You have extra fluid in your body, weighing about 1.2kg (2.6lb).
•Your breasts weigh an extra 0.4kg (0.9lb).
•You store fat, about 4kg (8.8lb), to give you energy for breastfeeding.

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 11/12/2013 12:11

I can't wait to eat healthier.

yesterday's dinner for me was chips & mayo. Confused

MrsB2013 · 11/12/2013 12:25

Boboli so sorry :(

Lol zing plain and simple is my mantra at the moment. Away with work the first part of this week and everything had something done to it - meat/fish with sauce, same with accompanying veg!

MrsB

with my constant NCs it is wise you updated me to Zing! Grin

thanks

elliejjtiny · 11/12/2013 13:48

So sorry boboli

Is anyone else panicking about the birth? I went to the entrance of the antenatal ward to visit a friend today and all the memories of DS4's birth came flooding back. Now I'm worrying about how I'm going to cope going back there in July.

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 11/12/2013 13:57

ellie

not so much about the birth itself, more about the complicated military operation that is getting kids, people, clothes, timetables, plans A, B & C organized & perfectly coordinated for an unknown date in the future!
Grin

I'm blocking it out.
I'm tempted to ask for a ELSC. it would make life so much easier from that point of you.
but then again recovery with DD (VBAC and no stitches! ) was so incredibly fast, it served me way better post birth to not give in to temptation!

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 11/12/2013 13:58

bloody hell. not point of you, point of view
Angry
I need a sleep so desperately but waiting for important delivery.

elliejjtiny · 11/12/2013 14:38

Zing I hadn't thought of that bit Shock. DS4 is very high maintenance and I've never left him with anyone yet. ELSC is good for timing stuff (although I was starved for 23 hours and then bumped to the next day) but I much preferred my 2 hour labour and quick recovery I had after DS3. The midwives kept saying after my ELCS that at least I didn't have a 2 day labour but as my longest labour was 4 hours that wasn't much consolation.

I've got 2 birthdays to try and avoid too. DS1 wants to go to LEGOLAND for his birthday so I need to convince him that a new baby brother or sister would be a better present.

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 11/12/2013 14:41

Grin @ better present

so #5! glad I'm not the only one with a large family!Wink

Safyre · 11/12/2013 16:09

First midwife appointment was Monday - she greeted me with 'Oh, it's you - it's about time you were back!'. Booking in appointment should be the week before Christmas and scan sometime in January.

Currently feeling really, really nauseous almost all of the time, but not actually being sick, so exactly the same as my last pregnancy. Coffee seems to be a killer for me - I am having to avoid it like the plague.

Told DH's parents and sisters last night, and we got the predicted hysterical response about the arrival of the 8th grandchild. Going to see my parents and sister at the weekend to break the news to them. Slightly ridiculous that at 29 and 6 years married I'm worried about telling my parents I'm pregnant again...

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 11/12/2013 16:36

Safyre

how many kids have you got so far?

LazyDogJumpedOver · 11/12/2013 17:15

Had some blood on the tissue when going for a wee... rang the midwife and she's arranged a scan for tomorrow morning (she's an angel!)

Trying not to worry but that's just about impossible in pregnancy! Best case scenario - all is well and I get to see The Bean

Fingers crossed
L

Sparky321 · 11/12/2013 17:22

Hope everything goes well for you Lazy. Fingers crossed you get to see your lovely healthy bean xx

MrsB2013 · 11/12/2013 17:30

Lol Zing I didn't know if you'd notice I changed your name!!

Ellie this is my first and I'm so scared of giving birth, I want a C-section but not sure they will agree to it.

Jaykay great news on the scan yesterday!

Hayley when is your next scan?

I've got my 12 week scan a week today! Excited and nervous!
