Wow. Had my MW booking in appointment.
She got off rather on the wrong foot when she greeted me with the words 'but oh, you know all this already after your last birth at this hospital'. I said, no, that this was my first ever pregnancy and I had no idea how any of this worked.
She then thought, based on my name(?) and ability to speak English (?) that I was S-African, but didn't ask me, just stated it: 'And you're from S-Africa.' With my notes open in front of her, clearly stating that I am in fact, not. I have however lived in the UK since 2003 and no, I did not come here because of work or benefits but because of my English husband.
Topper was when she started to talk about how this town is getting a bit mixed for her liking, that it used to be all white (?) and assumed I'd agree as I come from a very homogenous country myself. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and pointed out that I might be white but I was in fact foreign and an immigrant, but no, she just kept digging and said how she thought the UK was getting a bit crowded. I didn't know whether to walk out, complain or what. Mind. Boggles. I'd hate to be someone in a more vulnerable position than I am and having to deal with that kind of attitude on top of it.
AIBU?
On the plus side, my BP was excellent and I will get a scan before christmas. On the bad side, my BMI was not. Am being referred to a consultant as a high-risk, on the basis of BMI mainly but also because of allergies and previous medical history. But mainly because of my BMI. She made sure to say that a few times. To say that I was steaming when I came out is an understatement.
The number of questions she didn't ask and assumed she knew the answer was also shocking. I guess I was taking a bit too long..
