I'm in the southwest so I had a google.... My friend went to www.ultrasound-direct.com/mobile/about.aspx and had a good experience. Early scans are about £100. I found another far less professional looking website but at half the price..... ultrasounddevon.com

I believe the first one is nationwide.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 01/12/2013 13:47

My booking in appointment isn't until 16th December (if I get that far) and then dating scan on 3rd January.
I have to say, I wish I hadn't gone for early scan. If I ever have another pregnancy I won't be parting with £100 for it.

spinningirl10 · 01/12/2013 14:21

Fifi69.....I had an early scan booked at the second place but mc so never had it. I spoke to the chap that does it on the phone and they do them in a village hall.....sounded very strange! I believe he does it as a side line as he was keen to do it on the weekend or in the evening. Are you going there?

BlueC2 · 01/12/2013 14:52

Afternoon all. Well DS is now better and slept right through last night for first time in a week :) but now DH has it and seems like flu:( he caught hand foot and mouth from DS only a few weeks ago and had just recovered from that so is v v fed up at being ill again. Plus we have my Mum and Step Dad staying with us so I am running about looking after everyone and now feeling utterly exhausted and sick :( Early scan tomorrow but have barely had a chance to think about it!

MrsA2 · 01/12/2013 15:04

Hi all, nice weekend here. Today we even managed a bike ride, only 10 miles and I had to stop twice (still so lightheaded) but it was nice to get some fresh air and exercise. Shattered and on the sofa now!

Could really do with a day or two off next week rather than the hectic week I have at work. Oh well, the countdown to Christmas is now on at least.

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 01/12/2013 15:14

I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and haven't got any dates yet.

I'm going to wait for another week then I'll call the hospital to check - all the Christmas mail will start slowing things down but we have to organise our two weeks home.
and as we won't take kids to this scan we need to arrange someone to look after them - I just want to get it all sorted

I feel so sick and the extra snot doesn't help.
and I'm so hungry because I'm eating way less then I normally would because if I eat too much I feel sick.

I hate this bit. I really really hate it.
I haven't actually puked yet but I worry that I will - not only it is horrible as such but as I get pg incontinence I tend piss myself when sick...
which would be humiliating at worse if witnessed in public and bloody inconvenient even at home.

can someone give me one good reason why 6 children weren't enough?
I can't remember why I wanted more!Grin

(of course that's just silly.
I'm looking forward to this little cutie as well!)

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 01/12/2013 15:15

and Happy December everyone!Smile

MrsA2 · 01/12/2013 15:20

Ah Zing I hope you are feeling less sick very soon. I am amazed and impressed that this will be your seventh - I'm sure I'll struggle with one!

AuntieMaggie · 01/12/2013 15:28

I have a couple of persistent spots on my chin that have been there for at least a month. And I just can't seem to get my make up right - the foundation just kind of sits on top of my skin. I'm trying to look normal and professional here [tchhmm]

MW appointment tomorrow... will ask about my scan as I haven't heard anything yet...

mamachelle · 01/12/2013 15:40

Zing- that was me on friday morn! Asking dd1 between vomiting to make juice bottles for school and wondering why im doing this again lol we have 6 between us, this is dc7.

I have my 12 wk scan on the 2nd of jan when i will be 13 wks

Any1 experienced pink discharge in early pregnancy? I have had an early bleed before but that was bright red and had me rushing to a+e in a panic. Turned out to be nothing and i now have a 5yr old to show for it. Im just unsure whether to worry atm or not

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 01/12/2013 15:41

MrsA

thanks. me too. but I tend to get worse until about 9 weeks when it "peaks" for about 2-3 weeks before it gradually gets better. [tchsad]

I guess the first baby is a struggle for most, simply because you have no idea what to expect or what the heck you are supposed to do!
It's the fear of the unknown that makes us worried about how we will cope - and I find that still a surprisingly strong emotion!
I mean just how am I going to to get through the summer?
and what about school runs? how on Earth am I going to bf with 3 school runs a day (inc lunchtime playgroup pick up)? and wee need a new car....and organizing all the clothes and getting stuff ready - scary!

for me the first 6 months are the hardest. I remember them as a blurry fog with sweet little memories scattered in them - like the first smile or perhaps the first 5-hour sleep at night.

it's all good though. I can't wait.

BlueC2 · 01/12/2013 16:46

So DH just announced that he's not sure he'll be well enough to come to the scan with me tomorrow and that maybe I should take Mum instead!! Now I love Mum to bits but first scan I really want DH there-what if there's a problem? I want to share that with DH not Mum and if everything is fine then it's DH I want to share it with. So trying not to be too fed up with DH as I know he's feeling rotten but am v frustrated! Grrr

MrsB2013 · 01/12/2013 17:38

Urgh I've had a dodgy tummy for 3 days now. Don't know if its certain foods not agreeing with me or just a preg symptom Hmm

Is anyone else really tired all the time? I had a 3 hour nap today and I'm still tired!

LazyDog I just googled for early scans in my area, mine was £75 from 8 weeks, an earlier one was £105 I think.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend!

DoctorDonnaNoble · 01/12/2013 17:42

I am ridiculously tired ALL the time! Next week is going to be a stressful one at school. And DH is working the 6-2am shift tomorrow, so my sleep will be disrupted. And parents evening on Tuesday. And our year 11 teaching may be observed at some point in the week. Confused

Hope everyone's had a good weekend.

Good work on the bike ride MrsA - that puts me to shame, all I've managed is a walk to the pub in search of a roast!

Got through a friend's birthday last night disguising soft drinks as booze. Was all going well (soda water with fresh lime as fake G&T) until we got to the restaurant. I thought I'd been super sly by taking a waiter aside & asking to get a Virgin Mojito every time I ordered a Mojito at the table. Then when drinks appeared waitress announced "one Mojito, no alcohol?" despite the fact it was the only Mojito! I swiped it off her and no one said anything but think they may have heard...

Sorry to hear that Blue. Hope he feels better in the morning. If not maybe it'd help to think this is an early scan and not the big 12 week one? If nothing else I hope your mum can make it so you've got her support.

Aunt Maggie - a few months ago I got bad spots on my chin and found a great video on how to cover them properly (mix of cover-up & powder). Try searching for Sali Hughes' video on make-up for acne on the Guardian website. It's ace.

Good luck getting through the sickness Zing - I've found it worse than I expected (tend to be sick about 3 times a day) but weirdly getting used to it now. Like you say I guess the fear of things is often worse than the reality!

MrsA2 · 01/12/2013 18:03

6pm is too early for bed isn't it? I'm with you all on feeling absolutely shattered. I'm lightheaded all the time too - I feel like I could faint on 20+ occasions a day.

I've only had limited nausea though so know I shouldn't moan compared to some of you ladies.

This first trimester is really dragging though...

BrightonSquirrel · 01/12/2013 18:10

Thanks for adding me to the list Mrs B! I forgot to say but due date is 3rd July.

On the tiredness front, yes! Slept through two David Attenborough programmes this afternoon. Must be that restful voice.

AuntieMaggie · 01/12/2013 18:34

Thanks Brighton will have a look.

I have a couple of xmas things this week so will have to try and come up with excuses why I'm not drinking cocktails!

fifi669 · 01/12/2013 18:49

spinning yes I went to the second one. He's a nice man, very chatty etc. I think his 9-5 is sonography and this is a sideline. At this stage I got to see that bean was in the right place, he showed me the the womb lining was nice and thick and it had a good blood supply, he zoomed in so I could see its little heart beating too. He also checked for any other issues like cysts but all was good :)

I had an earlier scan before with DS because of pain, the photos look pretty much the same. When he zooms in its not too clear as I guess his unit doesn't have a high resolution, though there isn't much to see either!

He made an estimate based on measurements taken I'm 7+5 which puts me back 4 days. He said its difficult at this stage as every small error means bigger differences in age so I'll wait for the dating scan to know for sure.

Most important thing is bean is doing well :)

spinningirl10 · 01/12/2013 19:49

Fifi.....that's great news all is well and good to know he was good! Hopefully I will get a bfp soon and I'll use him for an early scanGrin

MrsB2013 · 01/12/2013 20:27

Can I ask you all about the flu jab?

Are you having it? If so when?

Has anyone had a reaction to it?

I'm not sure if I want to have it Confused I know it's recommended but it only protects against flu and not colds. I've had flu a couple of times so I know how bad it is, but I always seem to suffer from really bad colds this time of year.

OP posts:
Babymamatobe · 01/12/2013 20:47

Hi MrsB, when I got my GP to confirm my pregnancy it was the first thing she did!

I was absolutely fine with it, no reactions other than a sore arm for a day or so.

MrsA2 · 01/12/2013 20:48

MrsB I had it the month I conceived - two weeks before I realised. I was quite run down (cold) at the time but still had no side effects.

elliejjtiny · 01/12/2013 21:35

The baby did not like the car wash. In the car wash there is nowhere to escape without getting very wet.
