Hi Everyone
I thought we should have a thread in here as so many of us have now graduated into the antenatal threads. I know that many good friendships have been made and it would be a shame to lose them because we are all due in different months.
So come on sign in!!

I have a stainless steel one as well, I used to shine it up every day, and do the oil thing, until DH put our steamer sort of straddling two of the rings, and then accidently (how god only knows) put the ring on, and this plastic steamer melted all over my cooker I got the plastic off the actual SS bit, but it won't come off the ring, so I have kind of negleted it since, it is always clean, just not super shiny and oiled!

My pride and joy now is my dining table, it is a big solid wood jobbie from India, it is so beautiful!! LOL I know it is only a table, but I polish that thing every day until it shines LOL

NatalieJane · 18/10/2006 17:37

No, I'm not a big fan of MM, he is just a little bit too weird for me!! LOL

I don't think there are many cover versions of any songs that I like better than the originals. I love Queen to bits, but I think Five did a very good job of We Will Rock You, I think that's about it really! Will be listening to the radio tomorrow and remember another few to add now!

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 17:38

it sounds lovely nat! i bet it looks fantastic.

strange how priorities change as you get older isnt it...i mean, if 5 years ago someone told me that one of my fave things would be a hob, id have laffed at them ...now look at me...a hormonal, cookware loving mound of craze lol

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 17:39

yeah, queen are great. dh likes to listen to queen too.

NatalieJane · 18/10/2006 17:43

LMAO!! I do sometimes think along those lines, my table is three years old (not that I am counting it's birthday or anything!!) so I was only 20 when it arrived, I can't believe looking back that a 20 year old was awake all night because of excitement at a bloody dining table and chairs coming all the way from India!

And then when it arrived in a great big box type thing, I daren't open it incase a big poisonous spider or snake or elephant came out of it or something!! LOL

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 17:50

LOL! i was scared to open the oven stuff too...not coz of snakes or anything, but just incase i boke it lol.
did u order the table from a specialist shop or something??

NatalieJane · 18/10/2006 17:58

Yes, I found a website (www.worldfurniture.co.uk) they sell Indian (and other kinds of) furniture so they had the contacts, I just asked for any tips they could give me for sourcing my own stuff, they helped loads and let my stuff find it's way to one of their own pallets that they bring over for their shop.

I love it, it is all completely solid wood, hand made, so so beautiful! It makes you want to touch it... or that could just be me...!! LOL I have a huge dining table, 6 chairs, a trunk, a unit for the stereo, a unit for the telly and DVD etc. an oval set of drawers, a side board that has all different carvings on it, and a little side table thing. The only thing I don't like is the 6 monthly bees wax polish I have to do, it stinks the whole house out!! LOL

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 18:01

wow, it really does sound beautiful, and hand made makes it one of a kind too then..lovely jubly!

how have the contractions been today btw?

NatalieJane · 18/10/2006 18:10

They are all one off's, you would think it costs the earth, and it is more expensive than what you can get in MFI (for eg.) but it is the sort of furniture that will still be with us in our retirement home! But it isn't as much as you would think, we got all of the furniture I listed above for just under £2500! Like I said it sounds a lot, but it is going to be here for a hell of a long time!!

I have had the usual BH and niggling period type pain in my back all day, I had 3 more painful contractions this afternoon, but they trailed off, and have returned in the last half hour or so, if the last week is anything to go by, they will be here all night again, which means another night of watching the clock and worrying what the hell we will do with DS if they do get more regular!

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 18:20

that sounds like a perfectly reasonable price for all that you listed nat..considering that you wont have to be replacing them.

so what will you and your dh do about thomas when you go into labour? who will look after him for you? this is all stress that you dont need isnt it.

NatalieJane · 18/10/2006 18:29

We haven't got a clue, we were relying on being able to get MIL up here in time, but I don't think that will be happening now. There is no one else that can help. Before mum went away she offered to come up and stay, but even before whats gone on this week (she doesn't know about it yet!) she could come up for the week that I am due, but it could be another week before I have him, and she can't stay for that long, I wouldn't want anyone in my house for that long!!

So, we are left with three options, either having to stick it out at home, but I am not brave enough for that! Taking DS to the hospital with us, which would be a nightmare, or DH staying home with him, either way, I will be on my own I think, there is no other way.

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 18:35

i really do feel for you on this nat. its a horrible situation...are there any other family members or close friends near by that could help you out? i take it that your dh is supposed to be your birthing partner? dont even think of sticking out a home pregnancy if its not what your comfortable doing! how many hours away does your mum live??

NatalieJane · 18/10/2006 18:46

Nope, there is no one, all of my family live miles and miles away, and most have little families of their own so couldn't drop everything anyway, DH's family aren't really an option. Mum's is a good 4 hour drive away, if heavy traffic could be closer to 6, and she doesn't even drive, so DH would have to go and get her and then bring her back here, by which time the baby is likely to be a couple of hours old!

We are stuffed!

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 18:52

damn...i really dont know what to suggest. maybe this is something you should chat to your midwife about...what is the hospital policy on having thomas at the hospital with you?? its such a difficult situation! your mil should feel ashamed at herself. does she know how much trouble shes causing?

NatalieJane · 18/10/2006 18:55

Yep fully aware! But what can we do?

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 19:14

i honestly dont know nat...as if pregnancy, labour and birth arent stressful and hard enough...

my sympathies really are with you. by the looks you and dh will have to put your heads together and see what you can come up with...failing that, maybe have a word with your midwife about the hospital policies?

im afraid i have to shoot off now too...dh has just come home and i should start making the curry now. I'll be back on here tomorow though nat. try and take it easy tonight and have a chat about what you could do. TC and speak to you later xox

NatalieJane · 18/10/2006 19:16

Thanks Wuzz, enjoy your curry, I will keep an eye out for any late 'is this it?' questions from you!!

Have a good night xxx

NatalieJane · 19/10/2006 09:42

So did it work? Are you in labour?

We think we have come up with a solution to the problem with DS, home birth, I am shit scared at even the thought of it, but I would rather be here with no pain relief (I won't touch gas and air or pethadine again) than being at the hospital on my own.

wuzzlefraggle · 19/10/2006 10:24

hiya!
well nat, nope im not in labour yet lol...and we had a hot curry and sex. although i must admit that im in quite a bit of discomfort today as far as period type pains and pelvic pressure are concerned.

im glad that you have sorted out what you are going to do with regards to your birth plan. it cant have been an easy decision to make for you both. Im sure that Your midwife will love that you have decided on a home birth too, they are trying to encourage home births loads

NatalieJane · 19/10/2006 10:37

SEX?!!!! I am very impressed!! We had gotten back into the swing of things for a while but then the contractions started, all I want to do is jump on him but I daren't if the show has come away I don't like the idea of the cervix being open and his... ahem, well, willy in there!! LOL Besides, I don't think he would like the feel of a contraction on his willy either!!

The more I think about a home birth, the more it sounds perfect, apart from the pain thing, but it is going to hurt no matter where I have him.

It would be lovely to shut the front door after the midwife has left, and just get on with us being a family of 4, drinking tea from our mugs, in our bed, with our sons here, much more appealing then the usual hospital surroundings...

God, what have I let myself in for?!!!

wuzzlefraggle · 19/10/2006 10:57

lol, it was dh that wanted it, and i just thought "hmmm, this could help speed things along too" LOL!

if i had the courgage to have a home birth then i would too, but as this is my first and i dont really have a clue what to expect, ive decided to stick with a hospital birth (been told i'll be on the midwifery led unit as im low risk). I think you've made the right decision, taking everything into consideration...and hey, i'll be here on MN if you want to scream at me lol

NatalieJane · 19/10/2006 11:15

Well nothing is for sure yet, I am still a bit undecided, DH is going to need some convincing, he says it is up to me as obviously it is me birthing, but he is worried about if anything goes wrong etc.

And yes I suppose another upside is I will be able to have a live MN birth! LOL

If nothing else, the thought of it all has taken mind off of these bloody contractions, they are hurting like f*ck now!

wuzzlefraggle · 19/10/2006 11:22

your getting bad ones today are you?? how close together are they? what would you say they felt like ? (sorry for such a dicky question, im just very curious)

maybe start up a thread on here about mums that have has home births and their experiences? then you could show that to your dh...or maybe look online for as much info as you can find on home births?

NatalieJane · 19/10/2006 11:33

I have already got some links from the girls on my AN thread that have had, or are planning a home birth. And the longer I think of it for, the more positives I can add to the practical side of a home birth to the list. He isn't totally against the idea of it, but I would rather he is 100% about it, rather than just trying to please me IYKWIM?

The contractions had stopped during the day up until today, they are no more regular, still 2/3/4 an hour, but they are the strongest yet. How to describe a contraction.... erm... you know the tightenings you get that you can feel all over your belly? Well that is the sensation, except real ones tend to be much more in the lower half, but the pain side of it is much more difficult to describe, it happens to everyone differently. Mine feel like cramp, you know the sort that wakes you up at night, when your leg can't move because the muscle has sort of locked? Mine feel like that but obviously in my belly, I feel like I wan't to rub it better, but I can't put my finger on exactly where it hurts, it just hurts. In my back it feels like period pain, coming in waves. Don't know if that is any help?
