The weird thing is he is absolutely fine when they aren't around. Lovely, thoughtful, considerate. Does his fair share round the house, great with the toddler. But seems to undergo some sort of bizarre regression when they're here and turns into an irritating, sulky teenager.

He is now a grown up, responsible adult male again who has made lunch and is offering to sort out the house before Christmas decs go up.

I could study him and write about it for my behavioural psychology module.

TobyLerone · 27/11/2013 14:45

That's even weirder!

In that case, they'd never come to stay in my house again. Thoughtless twats.

enjoyingscience · 27/11/2013 14:48

God enormouse, you must have the patience of a saint. I'd have kicked DP's arse for acting like that. I hope he's very, very sorry!

another yay for a quiter space. Hope the rest does you good.

Fingers crossed for MrToby - hope it goes well, but if not, all the best people pass on their second attempt Wink

I met another MN-er last night at yoga on the december thread. There should be a secret signal or something.

Sorry for not catching up properly - hope everyone's ok :)

Felix90 · 27/11/2013 14:50

enormouse I take it these are friends of your OH? Weirdly, my OH is exactly the same when his two friends from down south come to visit. I have absolutely no time for them as they are massive twats and they will spend the whole weekend playing video games, drinking and being excessively loud with no consideration for anyone else in the house. It's like they revert to being teenagers again Sad I've banned them from visiting now and OH has to go down to see them. One of them even called yesterday trying to persuade him to visit over Christmas/new year and got arsey because I said no due to the impending birth of his first child! I really feel your pain. Sounds like he's got a lot of making up to do!

enormouse · 27/11/2013 15:00

enjoying Isn't there the MN scarf? Or are you thinking of a secret handshake? Smile

felix yep they are. One from university and the other from when they both used to be altar boys together. I think the regression is so pronounced as DP was diagnosed as bipolar in his teens.

He has well and truly repented. We're going out together with DS (colds permitting) tomorrow and on Saturday (minus ds) and he's booking a mini break to Edinburgh so we I can visit the German market.

enjoyingscience · 27/11/2013 15:10

I forgot about the scarf! Not very practical for yoga though...

TobyLerone · 27/11/2013 15:42

Gah! DH just texted. He failed, as I feared he might.

enjoying, you're right -- the best people pass 2nd time :o

Glad he's making it up to you, enormouse.

Felix90 · 27/11/2013 15:45

Ah well, at least he knows what the expect next time Smile

Felix90 · 27/11/2013 15:45

To not the!

TobyLerone · 27/11/2013 16:16

That's what I said :)

TarkaTheOtter · 27/11/2013 16:57

If it's any consolation to him I passed first time when I was 17/18. The very first time I went out on my own I had an accident and didn't drive again for 10 years. I wish they had failed me as I just wasn't ready.

alteredimages · 27/11/2013 17:59

Hi everyone. Just dipping in quickly to wish mythree luck and say happy birthday to Sarah and MrsGSR Cake

enormouse your DH's antics at the weekend sound unbearable, esp when his friend was shouting at your son. V poor. On the other hand, i know what it's like to switch like that in company. As soon as me and my brpthers and dad get together we form a really weird rowdy clan and get really anti social with others and talk about rugby all the time. It's v weird and def worth research. Even in the midst of us being like that we know but can't stop! Poor DH never gets to join in.

Sorry too for everyone struggling with finances.Flowers DH just had his study leave renewed but unpaid, so we're up shit creek too cos obv no one will give me a job at the mo and DH busy finishing his thesis. Ho hum. We've had worse though and I really believe that things work out eventually however hard it is at the time.

In other news, dad has sent €300 and i am eager to waste spend it all quickly before DH spends it on binding his bloody thesis. I want to do something nice for DD who is Disney mad so was thinking of annual passes for disneyland Paris. Is this a good idea or just grossly irresponsible? We live about 40 mins from the park by suburban rail.

fryingpantoface · 27/11/2013 18:51

It won't be a wasted gift, i'd do it altered

A friend has just bought us direct.asda.com/Red-Kite-Snuggie-Bounce/002689731,default,pd.html for the baby, which is lovely. People have been so nice

altered I think that's an awesome idea if you live so close. YOLO as Toby's DS would say! Wink

Toby what a shame for your DH, but at least he can get himself better prepared for next time....

enormouse you really deserve a medal for not kicking them all out! Definitely ban them from coming again - idiot twats!

Actually started sorting the nursery and washing baby stuff today. Hurray! Feels so good to have made a start! Grin

Sultanajo · 27/11/2013 19:01

frying that looks really cool!

Felix90 · 27/11/2013 19:24

Altered sounds like a good treat! I'd go for it (quickly, before your OH spends it haha).

Frying I love it. I struggled to find a bouncer chair thing that wasn't too 'cutesy' and that one fits the bill perfectly. OH's sister has bought us this enormous swinging jungle themed chair thing and I have no idea where we will even put it.

Sultana I'm so excited to sort our nursery out too. We haven't even bought any furniture yet though due to the house move. Most of our baby stuff is at OH's mums house being stored and I can't wait for her to bring it over. We have a few bits here currently including my ridiculous silver cross Kensington which is taking up about half of my bedroom at the moment... Also I'm in two minds about washing clothes. Is it something we have to do or is it just creating more work for us all? My mum said don't bother but I'm so paranoid about things like this.

We are ordering in a Chinese tonight as OH has decided he's 'too stressed' to cook. Fine by me! Also he came home with a present! A lovely Sanctuary 'Mum to be' set with some posh smellies in. I cried because it really cheered me up and I can't wait to have a nice bath tonight. He can be alright sometimes Grin

Frizz1986 · 27/11/2013 19:38

extra i am with the non re-freezers i am afraid. I tend to not get food poisoning but i am not a risk taker.

another glad you have been moved to a nicer room and hope that you enjoyed the visit from the family. Must be nice to have some friendly visitors.

Mmmm sultana cheesecake!! We just watched last night MC Aus. Cant wait to see who wins!
Hope you managed to get some good xmas gifts and a nice baby gift.

toby poor dh. Def easier the next time. I think i only passed first time because i did a trial test the week before with a different instructor that i had never met. I failed my practise run big time but i felt much better for my real one as i knew what to expect.
Sorry about all the back pains. I feel v fortunate that i just have general pg back ache.

enormouse that all sounds like a horrid few days. I would kill dh if he behaved like that and god help his friends if they started thinking it was ok for them to discipline. In my pg moaning rage mood they wouldnt stand a chance. Glad he is treating you to make up for it.

enjoying i think there shoule be a secret cough or sonething, i always wonder when i see a pg lady if they might be on here somewhere.

altered def spend the money. Sometimes you need to do something exciting and it sounds like a lovely idea for dd.
Dhs grandpa gave dh £200 a few weeks ago and i think it has faded into obscurity ans gone on bills or something. I think i need to let go sometimes andwe should have bought something with it.

Yay felix for head down and for pamper treats. Sorry about the urgent packing! I love packing and unpacking house moves, but when pregnant it would not be fun.
God you are making me feel hungry now!

I had my 34 week app today and baby is still head down. It seems to be in the same position every appointment atm but i swear it moves around in between. Midwife thinks head engaging isnt far off Smile

Sultanajo · 27/11/2013 19:50

felix I think they recommend washing baby stuff to remove chemicals due to their sensitive skin? I am washing it all because most of it is from NCT nearly new sales, so want to make sure it's properly clean and the brand new bedding has a really strong "new" smell to it, plus want to put bubs in freshly washed bits so he smells mega cute! Grin

Felix90 · 27/11/2013 19:50

Frizz that's good, hopefully baby will stay in place over the next few weeks if the position has been the same over the past few appointments Smile

Sultanajo · 27/11/2013 19:51

frizz me too! So pleased Lynton is still in it. He is my favourite! Just watching the final master class....trying not to dribble! Wink

TobyLerone · 27/11/2013 19:52

:o YOLO, altered. Do it!

I'm regretting buying a bouncy chair because my friend has twins and I'm always seeing pics of them on FB in like baby beanbag things. They look amazing and I wish I had one!

Re washing clothes, I wash everything we buy new before we wear it/use it. All clothes, bedding, towels, cloths, muslins etc for all of us. New clothes smell and feel horrible to me. Also, I have worked in retail and know how dirty stockrooms are!
But lots of people don't wash new stuff. It's totally down to personal choice.

I bought a bundle on eBay the other day, and it arrived today. The stuff is adorable! I got 2 bundlers, 2 really cute sleepsuits and 2 swaddle wraps, all for £13 inc postage. It's all been washed and put away already because I am a loser :o

How lovely of your DP , felix. It's nice to be looked after :)

Mythreeknights · 27/11/2013 19:57

Thanks for all good wishes and positive thoughts. Well, the surgeon managed to cut out the cancer (he showed me after...much bigger than it looked from the outside) and stitch me up in one go, so no need for a skin graft. Massive relief as I don't think I could stomach another op. Felt really queasy at end but had been lying on my back for the hour or so it took to operate. Feels miles worse than it looks which must be a good thing. Pharmacist said no to arnica so just on paracetamol and thank goodness for that. Made me think of all the poor souls in Syria and the Philippines who have no access to anaesthetic or painkillers if they are lucky enough to access healthcare at all. So I have a one inch. vertical scar leading down from the centre of my eyelid but other than swelling it does look much better than I had feared. X

Sultanajo · 27/11/2013 19:59

Toby my mum swore by the bouncy chair she used for me! as have my mates, so I am sure your bubs will love it! We got ours for £8 from one of DHs work mates, but we would have got one full price otherwise....

Just realised I bought two really cute newborn sleep suits that fit babies up to 7.5lbs! Doh! Unless bubs is early I don't expect he will fit into them.....They have Tom and Jerry on them so am a tad gutted I didn't look at the label properly! What a Wally! I had ripped the labels off before I realised....

Sultanajo · 27/11/2013 20:02

mythree that's awesome! Did your iPod help? Great news you don't need a second surgery! What a relief! Will they send the mass away for testing?
