Nice to know i was right :) i hate beans, any type. I don't like the texture at all.

Felix - that sounds brilliant!

frizz- with ds i was fully engaged at 36 weeks. He came at 38. So it worked out about right for me.

TobyLerone · 25/11/2013 20:08

Neither of mine ever engaged. I was induced at 42 weeks both times.

MrsVDB · 25/11/2013 21:08

I'm on a course in Bristol for work today and tomorrow and staying in hotel. Went out for dinner with my friend and as we were walking there I got this awful pain half way up bump on right side, didn't go for ages and I could hardly walk. Think it was stitch as was walking quicker than my normal waddle and laughing. Went after a few minutes of sitting down. Now I'm back at the hotel and just have a feeling something is up. I did have spicy Jamaican for dinner so could just be that right?

sarahleanne · 25/11/2013 21:13

extra 10 days! wow ...are you prepared? how bloody exciting!

felix good luck with the new move!

frizz I think (but seriously don't quote me on this) if first babies engage then they tend to stay engaged (most of the time) but subsequent pregnancies the baby can bob in and out all the time.
I knew as soon as DS was engaged cus it hurt like hell !!

I don't think being engaged means the baby will come soon. DS was engaged from about 38 weeks and I had to be induced at 42 weeks Hmm

Well it's my 25th birthday tomorrow and DH is away :(
DS has hidden a card under his pillow for me ad he thinks I don't know it's there Grin. He is so cute.

My friend went into prem labour and gave birth today to a little boy 2lbs 2oz.He's currently in scbu (up the line so I cant see him) so keeping fingers crossed he will be ok.

babycakemumma · 25/11/2013 22:35

Hi girls!

I hope you're all well. My baby is naughty and is oblique breech! All of mine were head down by now. I need to have words with this little bundle. I hope all bumps are behaving.

Sultana, we tend to use a baby bath on the floor in he bedroom. It does mean dh has to carry the bath through but it's for such a small timeframe that it doesn't bother us.

Another, I hope everything is ok.

Sultanajo · 25/11/2013 23:03

wow, so much going on and can barely remember anything....

extra so sorry to hear about your DH but ekkkk for potentially 10 days til bubs arrives!

felix good luck with the move.

nature hurray for more positive news!

finally got my new phone sorted, but I can't get a mumsnet app as it's a windows phone.....so won't be posting as regularly....

Had our final NCT class tonight. It was just the girls and was lovely. Talked about maternity pads etc. Got a night out with them all next week and am meeting up with a couple of them for cake and a gossip next week. BrewBiscuit

Felix90 · 25/11/2013 23:28

So I bought myself a birthing ball over the weekend and have only managed to use it once and now OH has claimed it as his new chair to sit on whilst he plays stupid zombie games on the PS3. Typical.

extracrunchy · 26/11/2013 00:20

I don't believe for a second that she's coming in 10 days! Predictions are silly - everyone's different.

MW's logic was it's my second so apparently generally you don't engage till much later on so it can be a sign things are imminent. Not foolproof though!

Also been having off and on contractions (verified by the monitor last week) - but the same happened last time and then fizzled out.
Basically I'm not getting too excited!

Nature that sounds much more positive about your leaving date. Hope the handover is quick!

Sultanajo · 26/11/2013 07:39

felix that sounds about right! It's like when I find DH cuddling my body pillow! Grin

extra at least you won't be disappointed if bubs stays put in 10 days time!

We'll apparently heartburn and having to sit upright at night means I have been up since 6am! Grrrr! Treating myself to masterchef Australia before getting an early start on the days pile of stuff....Yeah....go Sultana! Wink

MrsVDB · 26/11/2013 07:53

sulrana sounds like your having a much more productive maternity leave than I plan to. I'm looking forward to lie ins, pjs and cake!

flyawayblue · 26/11/2013 08:18

Been away for a few days so not caught up fully, sorry if I've missed something.

extra wow at fully engaged, hope its not too uncomfortable. Sounds like you will have your little one in 2013 Smile

fizz new place sounds lovely and like the right place to be but yikes at moving at 35 weeks. Glad you'll be able to stay out of it a bit.

nature sounds like your bosses are being more reasonable. Sometimes I don't think they read though emails and think how it will come across to others, that or your reply scared them and they thought about it Smile

Had a lovely dinner with friends last night but paid for it with heartburn and little sleep.

Baby is still transverse and I'm not sure if I should take the rlt I have when they are gonna rescan and talk cs.

Frizz1986 · 26/11/2013 08:24

sultana Masterchef australia is always a good start to the day. Not happy that this series is almost over on the tv!

mrsv i am also looking forward to lie ins and pjs but i only have 2 days of leave until my family descend for a pre xmas get together and then it will be xmas 2 days later so doubt i will get to relax much.
Hope you are feeling better after last nights events. I got really bad stitch (possible pulled muscle) in my bump the other week after a giggly attempt at dtd lol. It didnt feel right for ages but it went away eventually.

sarahl fingers crossed for your friend and her baby. How early is she?

I am both excited and nervous about bubs being engaged as i dont want to be more uncomfortable than i already am but it means bubs is getting ready to go.

felix i am tempted by a birthing ball, but the mlu have them so would only need it for home and so worry its just another expense that i could probably cope without. Too many difficult decisions!

Naturegirl82 · 26/11/2013 08:57

frizz you can pick up gym balls pretty cheap (a few pounds) if you did want one (argos or tescos are good) They aren't just for labour but helping with back pain in later stages and getting baby into the optimum position. I've been using mine from about 22 weeks.

TarkaTheOtter · 26/11/2013 09:12

So baby is still breech at 33weekd so I thought I'd look at the baby spinning website as I heard good things... Then I read this:

"talking to your baby about the reasons for breech presentation and a resolution for it"

Really Hmm

fryingpantoface · 26/11/2013 09:14

I bought a gym ball last time, but then didn't really use it a lot.

Today is payday! WOO! Sadly, by the time most of the bills are paid, i'm left with very little :( It does make me panic because i'll be getting even less money on Mat leave. Although my phone bill was £72, next contract so larger amount than normal. Still, i'm sure it'll be fine.

Today i'm taking ds to get some new shoes. So that's another £30 at Clarks. That's if i'm lucky

OP posts:
TobyLerone · 26/11/2013 09:38

:o Tarka! Reasoning with a foetus :o

I am actually dying of sciatica today. I've had to come back to bed because I can't sit. Lying down with a hot water bottle under my bumcheek/thigh is the way it hurts least. It is the worst I've ever had it. It actually goes all the way down to my foot. WOE.

enjoyingscience · 26/11/2013 10:24

the gym ball is my favourite place to sit - the best tenner I've spent I think.

I love the idea of reasoning with the foetus. Grin I don't have much luck with my four year old, but hell, anything's worth a try. This one is also pointing the wrong way - it's been oblique/transverse (as diagnosed by me) for weeks and weeks. I'll have a meeting with it later to discuss.

Swannykazoo · 26/11/2013 11:00

Can't get my fatball to the necessary level of firmness that doesn't leave my arse about two inches off the floor. The physio's one was fine so I think I'll send DH to get pumping!
This baby will be getting reasoned with too - it seems to have its head just under my ribs but the kicks are all over the place -so I'm just not sure if it really is breech, neither was the MW yesterday. Scan next week to see though. Place your bets....

Mythreeknights · 26/11/2013 11:02

Happy birthday sarahleanne and hurrah for gym balls Smile

I am also in a mild panic about finances - thought I'd have saved £3k by due date, (self employed so I don't get anything beyond MA which I still need to apply for..) but of course I haven't. And now that I'm going to be off earlier than planned wtih this eyelid surgery (first stage tomorrow, second stage next Weds) I am going to have even less saved than planned...any money saving tips most welcome..! Mine is meal planning and online shopping or using ALDI rather than Sainsburys, but I suspect I need to take further steps..

Felix90 · 26/11/2013 11:30

My gym ball was about 6 quid from Argos and it's ace. OH decided he could be proper manly and give it mouth-to-mouth to blow it up when I first got it out of the box, and it felt like my massive arse was just about touching the floor when I sat on it. Got the decent air bed pump out and now it's lovely and firm! I find it laughable that places try and sell 'proper' birthing balls for £20-30 when it's just a gym ball in disguise.

Mythreeknights I totally recommend meal planning. We used to spend a stupid amount on food per week and still end up going to Asda for 'top ups' as we never had anything in to make a decent meal. Now I am ruthless and go through the cupboards, see what staples we have in and plan around those. I started shopping at Aldi and literally buy what's on the list (bar a few million packs of their chunky cookies which are incredible, and anything else that suckers me in at the beautiful random middle aisles full of shit) and now spend £40ish a week. We waste far less food now too, and I've started being a bit more adventurous and trying out new recipes. Also we have started eating more veggie meals which has cut our food bill right down Smile

TobyLerone · 26/11/2013 11:34

Meal planning is brilliant. And making good use of the freezer -- buy things on offer and freeze them, and freeze leftovers (even tiny bits).

Happy birthday, sarahl! Cake

fryingpantoface · 26/11/2013 11:44

Just started to watch the Hunger Games. Oh my, already in tears where Catniss has volunteered

Sultanajo · 26/11/2013 12:09

mrsv well....had very good intentions but......ended up napping on the sofa! Oops! Really am getting on now!

frizz I too am gutted MC Aus is nearly over!

Happy birthday sarah! BiscuitWine

mythree good luck with your first stage surgery tomorrow. Will be thinking of you.

toby oh poor you! That really really sucks! Hope it eases off soon.....

All the girls at my NCT class are now being seen every other week by their midwives. I am still going every 3 weeks up to 38 weeks then it goes down to two weeks....Weird as we are all in the same area.....

Am also considering getting a gym ball.....

BookTart · 26/11/2013 12:57

I have a gym ball! I have no idea what to do with it though. Do I just sit on it, or am I meant to be bouncing around or something? The cats are terrified of it as well, which is sometimes entertaining :)

I hope it goes well tomorrow mythree Thanks

Sciatica is shit toby, hope it buggers off soon.

All the midwives I've seen so far have said the baby is head down since 20-odd weeks. The sonographer said she was breech. No idea who is right, but I will NOT be attempting to reason with a foetus. I looked at the Spinning Babies website but had to flee because of the general air of woo Grin

another, how are you doing?

Frizz1986 · 26/11/2013 13:04

mythree Good luck for the surgery and I second shopping at Aldi. We changed once Dh lost his job and tend to spend about £20 on the main shop and then need to buy extra Bread and milk in the week. We used to spend £35 or so plus top ups at Morrisons. I have meal planned for a while but I now plan meals with fewer ingredients or less expensive ones. I also check Aldi online for their super 6 veggies which are all cheap for the fortnight or something.

Again need to get back to work as have to leave dead on 5 tonight for my bumps nhs class. A midwife is coming to chat to us and it might be the Irish one I have had the past 2 appointments who Dh can't understand at all.
