Will this do? I bet someone's beat me to it now!

Squiffie · 08/11/2013 09:37

I like Victoria Rose mumof2 but my niece is called Rosie and don't think my sister would be overly impressed. X

randdom · 08/11/2013 10:15

Had my booking in appt and all went well. Got my scan date for the 26th. I will be nearly 14 weeks then which seems like it is a bit late but the can still do nt test which I am happy about! I just wish I could get confirmation that all is ok before that

:(

Vikks · 08/11/2013 10:35

I'm loving all the name chat. Our front runners are Olivia Rose or Jack Angus......could change.

I had a first last night, my bump must be big because a total stranger asked me when my baby was due! Took me by surprise but really I love showing off my little bump! x Wink

Vikks · 08/11/2013 10:38

Oh and 13 Weeks today!!

4 weeks until gender scan.

bushprincess · 08/11/2013 10:41

Hey guys! Am off to the bush for the weekend after a great scan, little bean doing well at 13 + 4..... so so happy.... have a great weekend everyone!

Jenologist · 08/11/2013 10:47

Hello, I've made it back after a rough few days. Someone told me that in pregnancy, your immune system is lowered so you don't reject the baby. Seems to be true in my case: have my 2nd cold in 4 weeks, and was up all night on Wednesday night with a stomach bug. Working in a school is no longer a fab idea.
Glad to hear everyone has had some lovely scans, the pictures are fab. My little plum wouldn't play nice for nt measurement yesterday so going back next week!
Loving the name chat, giving me more ideas!

hamncheese · 08/11/2013 10:48

I think that's why I just introduce him as sandy now. Its basically his name. When we picked I wasn't amazingly keen on Alexander. I liked it but I didn't love it. In the end I let DH have it as I picked the girl name. Then he came out with sandy blonde hair and I basically commandeered it and he was sandy from then on! I adore sandy, its different and uncommon but not odd and no worries on the spelling it front.

This might help on name deciding. Get the first name dictionary and each you and DH go through separately write all the names you like down and then compare the lists. Add any you both have and discuss any others the other has you start liking then you can cut from there. Worked well for us first time no arguments :)

BigBadWolefPlum · 08/11/2013 10:57

I've gona back on all my name choices! DD wants to call the baby Minnie, Daisy or Sophia (which I think has nothing to do with the fact that all she watches is Sophia the first or Mickey Mouse clubhouse)

I said "what if it's a boy?!" she laughed and said No, mummy

bluestone85 · 08/11/2013 11:05

Loving the names! The husband and I have one boys name that we agree on completely. But we are going to discuss it most likely after we find out the sex :)

11 weeks today if going by Monday's scan! Grin

loopylou52 · 08/11/2013 11:54

Loving all the name chat. We haven't really discussed them much yet but will maybe get a book. vikks - I love Olivia Rose - I really want to use Rose as a middle name but DH not keen. Going to need to work on him I think!

Congrats on the recent scans! Hope those still feeling sick are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm still having trouble with my back/hip and counting days till my physio appointment.

snoozysleeper · 08/11/2013 12:02

Ah randomm you're very similar to me in terms of scan date and how far on you will be , I don't know if that makes you feel any better but at least you're not alone.

Also loving all the name chat.

Random question, the only thing I'm really eating at the moment is sweets (only thing I fancy and not making me sick) DH is saying that I should be careful as will end up with big baby and then have a tear??? Confused

is this true? I thought the baby would just be using it as energy for now. Obviously when not as sick will be eating a balanced diet then.

Xavielli · 08/11/2013 12:59

You'll be fine snoozy baby will be the size it's meant to be. And I can't stress enough that big baby DOES NOT have to = tear. In fact my biggest was certainly much easier to birth.

thistlelicker · 08/11/2013 12:59

Snoozy you could end up gestational diabetic but if u have risk factors they will send you for the blood test! Risks are big baby, baby with iffy blood sugars.

Please be careful

Xavielli · 08/11/2013 13:08

I expect that as it's a short term thing (you'll be able to stomach other things in no time) it's highly unlikely to cause GD, which doesn't usually develope until 28-30 weeks. No need to go scaring youself

Spirael · 08/11/2013 13:25

A bit belated, but I'm a big Firefly fan too, Moomin! Not going for the name River, then? Wink

In fact (shh) I'm very much a geek. A sci-fi loving, board gaming, roleplaying, console playing, manga reading geek. I have now lost all street cred, haven't I?

Still battling MS here. It's definitely starting to ease though, as is the exhaustion. This time last week, contemplating anything other than collapsing on the sofa was impossible. Now I'm at least able to do a few simple things around the house.

Probably just as well, given that we're in charge of DNephew tomorrow! A good practice run for having two children. Confused Assuming the MS keeps improving, I may end up back at the doctors next week to get a Fit to Work note so I can return sooner! [glutton for punishment]

Loving all the name suggestions. :) Currently the front runners here are Caspian (Cas) Mark for a boy and either Penelope (Penny) Rose or Josephine (Josie) Rose for a girl. We have a long pretentious surname, so the overall combination makes us sound much posher than we are. Wink

I wouldn't worry, Snoozy. If sweets is all you can manage right now, then eat sweets. Hopefully in a month or two you'll find you can tolerate other things and repair the damage to your diet.

It won't harm the baby, your body will give your baby all the nutrients it needs first and just rob you of them, so you'll notice you're low on iron/vitamins/etc long before baby has any problems. And it'll lay any excess fat on your own hips out of choice. (Nice, eh?)

Last time I gained a ton of weight in the first trimester for a similar reason (I could only stomach cake Blush) but then had a much slower gain later on. DD wasn't particularly big (8lbs 3oz). I still tore though; If you're going to tear there's not much you can do about it! On the plus side, I didn't notice I'd torn until they stitched me back up afterwards. :)

Hendricks · 08/11/2013 13:54

We've got a middle name for bundle (family names from my side), but not started a long short list for first names. Think my first port of call will be the General Register Office for a list of all the names recorded for this year.

snoozy If that's all you can eat, that's all you can eat. Hopefully you'll feel better and be able to eat a more varied diet soon. Xavielli is right - someone can have a small baby and tear, whereas someone in the next bed could have a big baby and not a scratch. IIRC a bigger baby can be an easier birth as the extra weight can mean baby descends a lot easier, rather than yo-yoing up and down. Still, let's not think about that for another, ooh, five months or so!

snoozysleeper · 08/11/2013 14:00

Thank you everyone

xaviella I'm thinking its a short-term thing too, I'm not normally a sweets person Confused but Thankyou for your reassurance Flowers

thistle I don't think I have any risk factors but once able to will revert to being healthier Smile

spirael I've not been weighing myself, maybe I should-just to keep track... It's reassuring to hear you had a 'cake thing' before and your baby was still normal sized ! Ah here's hoping! Although I understand size doesn't equal tear necessarily ...

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 08/11/2013 14:00

Snoozy, I had a 8lb 6oz baby 1st time and had a second degree tear, the 2nd time I had a 10lb 9o baby had didn't even graze.

My mum and my sister both ha 6lb babies and had 3rd degree tears (my sister both times!) the size of the baby has no relevance to tearing, it's the position, speed and co-operation of the baby that counts. Just eat whatever you can keep down and you'll be fine.

OP posts:
LittleBairn · 08/11/2013 14:01

snoozy I agree with xav big baby does not mean tearing. My sister teared badly with her first small baby but didn't at all with her 10lb second baby. A lot can be down to position of the baby which can't really be helped.

Plus at this stage its not going to make much difference, they put their weight on my later, right now its all developmental growth.
I would say its more important to listen to cravings your body will signal to you what it needs.

squiffie thank you. Hope your keeping well.

hamncheese · 08/11/2013 14:22

I had an episiotomy. Blahhhh. Know someone who birthed an 11lb 5oz naturally. She isn't even big herself :)

snoozy I have eaten absolute crap for three months then a few days ago I just suddenly wanted a salad. Been eating well since, like before pregnancy! Hopefully that will happen for you soon. I also put a lot of weight on the first tri last time too.

Forgot to mention. DH bought me concert tickets for my due date (before we knew I was pg) but I only got them a week ago. Eep.

LongTailedTit · 08/11/2013 15:10

Re the tear/no tear thing, DS was 5lb 5oz (born at 36wks) and I still had a 2nd degree tear and a graze! His head was tiny. Confused

To the midwife said "If you're going to tear, yours is in the best place" as if that was reassuring!

snoozysleeper · 08/11/2013 15:49

Ah thank you everyone ! Flowers

I do understand but so doubtful of myself as this is my first...
I'm going to tell DH some of your stories and hopefully he'll back off a bit Smile

moominleigh94 · 08/11/2013 17:25

snoozy I'm the same as hamncheese, after eating nothing but junk for a few weeks (before that all I could eat was fruit) I'm taking a box full of lettice, cucumber and cherry toms to uni with me every day because all I want is fruit and salad again. That said, tonight I really fancy KFC as it's been a crazy week and I've hardly stopped - Out of the last 36 hours, I've spent 20 hours in rehearsals. I'm absolutely shattered Sad

So OH is bringing me a KFC and I'm going to lie in bed and just do nothing tonight. How much longer will I be able to do that Shock

mumof2aimingfor4 · 08/11/2013 18:04

Whats everyone doing for dinner tonight? I nees some new menu ideas.
We've got cod with garlic, roasted red pepper sauce and sautéed potatoes. Only problem is I can't be arsed to cook it!

thistlelicker · 08/11/2013 18:26

Friday night crap! Pizza and garlic bread !! I'd murder for a fruity cider to go with it tho!
