Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Naturegirl82 · 29/10/2013 10:39

altered if you are worried phone the midwife. I think they also suggest to wear a pad to collect any fluid.

MrsGSR my bump was measured with a tape measure. All my other measurements have come from the copious amounts of scans I have had!

MrsVDB · 29/10/2013 11:37

mrsg I was also measured with a tape measure but have a growth scan booked on Thursday too due to septate uterus

MrsGSR · 29/10/2013 12:09

The nurse who did my gtt put a measurement on my chart for 28 weeks but didn't actually measure me! I'm not worried, it just confused me slightly!

Mythreeknights · 29/10/2013 12:09

altered that doesn't sound so good - you should never be in excruciating pain (until D-day) and if you are also leaking fluid (does it smell?) then you should ring midwife / EPU ASAP. Good luck...you are not wasting someone's time.

Mythreeknights · 29/10/2013 12:10

I have also just found out that I've missed my 28 week midwife appt (due tomorrow but hadn't booked and now she can't fit me in) She can't see me next week either - this would be the second time only this pg that I'd have seen a midwife - what would you do - just wait til 30/31 weeks?

MrsGSR · 29/10/2013 12:59

Am I right in thinking they do blood tests at the 28 week appointment? If so maybe see if you can book an with a nurse just to do the bloods? I didn't see my midwife at 28 weeks, only the gtt nurse. All she did was take blood and check my bp.

MrsGSR · 29/10/2013 13:03

(obviously some of the bloods were for the gtt, but they did general blood tests again too) I know nothing though so hopefully someone else will have a better idea!

Naturegirl82 · 29/10/2013 13:03

Also if you need it they give anti-D depending on blood group, so if you are rhesus negative you should make sure you get this.

Has anyone read this article on bbc news?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-24710090

I've not looked up the actual paper yet but might see if I can get hold of it.

Naturegirl82 · 29/10/2013 13:04

MrsGSR you are right that they take bloods. I had ones taken to check for iron levels amongst things.

Frizz1986 · 29/10/2013 13:08

mythree they do blood tests at 28 week app along with the normal blood pressure, pee stuff.
I personally wouldn't want to wait really so would probably call the midwifes or gp surgery to ask what they would normally do at this point.
I am sure it happens on a regular basis.

mrsg i was measured with a tape and was told not to read too much into it all as each midwife will measure you differently.

altered I have had worries about leaks as I wasn't sure if it was pee or fluid.
I called the midwife and they said to put on a pad and see if it is leaking all the time as if it is continuous it could be fluid but if you have some periods when nothing comes out then it is probably pee.
In all honesty I think I have phoned the midwife twice about the same thing as didn't know how so much pee could be leaking but as I had some hours where nothing came out they said it was pee Blush
I think if things were painful though I would def call asap and they can reassure you as to what to do.

So my pee and vaginal swabs came back ok so no infections, just lots of peeing straight after the previous toilet trip. Although this seems to have got better.

Had breastfeeding NCT last night. The lady was a bit random and kept going off topic so it overran by 20mins!
I think i am going to ask others about their experiences though as she said that if you breastfeed you should be feeding on demand (normally every 2 hours for anywhere from 20mins to 1 hour feeds) for the first 6 months and you shouldnt be trying to get them into a routine.
Surely this isn't right as I don't think my friends have gone 6 months feeding this regularly as some of them said theirs were starting to settle through the night way before 6 months.
Any knowledgeable ladies out there?????

Sultanajo · 29/10/2013 13:17

Puggle hilarious peep show cord cutting reference! Halloween Grin

Nature what a relief and great news about team pink! What a shame they found something else to keep an eye on - hopefully in a couple of weeks it will be normal and you can finally relax!

Toby hope you have a fab time with your mate! I LOVE the copella apple juice, but it's just heartburn juice for me at the moment, so having to stay well away! Sniffle!

Tooth what an AWESOME business idea! I really think it would catch on!

Another hope you got some sleep with the newborn in your ward.....fingers crossed you will be allowed home soon...

MrsA fuckwit space invaders! Gets right on your tits doesn't it when it's unnecessary! It's like when they stand and breathe down your neck in supermarket queues - makes me wanna say "oh that's very kind of you to pay for my shopping! Oh, you weren't offering? My mistake, it's just that you were standing right next to the card machine which is a centimetre away from me...." Grrrr!

Humpty fingers firmly crossed your DH comes home today and you get everything you need to sorted. How annoying about last night!!!

Extra YY to thirsty! I am ALWAYS thirsty these days! I thought I had perhaps been eating a lot of salty foods, such as gammon, but it is never ending thirst! And it HAS to be ICE COLD drinks! Going through ice like it's going out of fashion! I too am measuring big (saw MW this morning), but she said people usually measure big at this stage and then it evens out.... No glucose in my urine and my GTT was negative....

Altered I would call the MW and just check with her - not worth sitting back and worrying. Fingers crossed it's nothing significant....

Mythree I had bloods taken at 28 weeks to check iron levels and then the normal blood pressure, urine sample etc. I would be tempted to make an appointment sooner than 31 weeks - did she not give you any guidance?

Sultanajo · 29/10/2013 13:18

Frizz great news about your test results! x

Naturegirl82 · 29/10/2013 13:19

No knowledge here Frizz but if you find out any info I'd love to hear it. I'm going to quiz my sister at some point to see how she found it

curlywurlyllass · 29/10/2013 13:33

Mythree can you see another midwife? I can be seen at midwife clinic at gp surgery (only runs fortnightly) or up at the ante natal bit of local hospital. It gets confusing when organising appointments

MrsG i was measured with tape measure....37 at 28weeks!

Altered deffo call midwife, might b a good idea to get checked out

Anotherstitch hope placenta behaves and you can get home soon

Extra, mrsV & sultana i had glucose in urine last week, re checked yesterday and none. But im still getting sent for GTT since growth scan shows a big baby :(

Humpty hope you get your DH home today :)

Nature congrats on team pink, hope your re scan in a few weeks goes well and you dont need an amnio. You have time to make your decision if needed and later amnios have much less risks.

Only hope you get some rest today, glad dd s better after illness

Tooth awesome idea! Can i b first customer for rage-er-cise? :)

book & toby we also havnt done any classes, could only get booked on one for 16th nov! I was hoping for weekly classes coz its our 1st and both are clueless. I tried to explain to DP what a sweep was- he turned green lol

I need a rant or a good cry :(
Growth scan yesterday has worried me. Apparently im growing a BIG boy (no one is listening that my 12week scan was crap/dates set disregarding 3rd measurement which was more in line with positive bfp, and that i have never agreed with their EDD and im certain im further on than they say) so now they are sending me for a GTT even tho urine re test shows no glucose (i drank lots of flavoured milk and ate breakfast before sample last week)
Work is stressing me out and now ive screwed up the rota for tomorrow (needing morning off for gtt) with all permanant staff going on training which leaves me with weak bank staff and 5 challenging teens. This mirrors last week exactly :'(
RRRrraaaaa!

And breathe!

MrsAVB · 29/10/2013 13:38

humpty FX for DH coming home today, hope you're ok and not too stressed out.
altered excruciating pain sounds like a reason to call the midwife! especially if it feels like contraction type pain.
Re. Measuring, I've been measured with a tape measure at 25 and 28 weeks, am measuring 1 week behind, but within normal. Have 31 week appointment today.
three I think I would try to make an appointment at her next clinic rather than wait til 31 weeks, or if this isn't possible see if it's possible to have blood, BP and wee tested by nurse or someone else.
frizz I read a good book about breastfeeding, called something like "how to breastfeeding, and what to do if you can't", from the library. From what I remember it was feed on demand in daytime, but no more regularly than 2 hours and no less than 4, for not more than half an hour at a time. At night you could leave them longer and there was also the suggestion of introducing a bottle of expressed milk in the eve with dad pretty early on, about 6 weeks I think. Will try and find out what the book was called.

curlywurlyllass · 29/10/2013 13:42

Bloomin heck that took me so long to write!

Frizz glad your test results came back fine

MrsV good luck for scan on thursday

:)

alteredimages · 29/10/2013 14:35

Thanks for all the responses guys. The pain was late last night, and since it's been gone for a good twelve hours I'm hoping all is ok on that front. I discovered after posting that I have a v upset stomach so given that contractions weren't painful with DD even in labour I'm wondering if thepain was that instead. Will keep an eye out to see if it returns tonight, but hoping all is well. With regard to the fluid, I will put on a pad and see what happens. If I am leaking it is clearly a tiny amount and not constant so will phone mw first thing if I'm still concerned. Also thinking of buying some amniosense pads so I don't drive myself mental for the rest of the pg. I know they're not 100% accurate but at least they can stop me worrying if it's negative. I think I just have a complex because I didn't know my waters had broken and I was partially dilated with DD til they examined me before my planned induction. Blush

MrsGSR · 29/10/2013 14:54

Flowers curly! At least if you have the gtt and it comes back negative they might listen to you about dates! Baby will come when they're ready regardless of the hospitals EDD :)

Lots of work stress so far this week! fx the rest of the week gets better for everyone!

MrsVDB · 29/10/2013 14:55

altered glad your feeling better but I'd still get checked if your worried at all

I was reading on another thread that babies shouldn't sleep away from people (ie in there own room) including naps until 6 m due to increased risk of SIDS. Apparently your breathing regulates theirs. I hadn't heard this before

MrsGSR · 29/10/2013 14:57

altered I had some stomach pain last night due to an upset stomach, fx that's all yours was too! I'd ring your midwife or the tommy line thing if you're worried though.

Naturegirl82 · 29/10/2013 15:06

I didn't know the reason why MrsVDB but I had heard that they shouldn't sleep away from you. I haven't got a baby monitor yet and that was one of the reasons I haven't got one yet as I figured I wouldn't need it till baby was older.

lovelilies · 29/10/2013 16:58

Frizz I Breastfed dd for 9 months, to begin with she fed approximately every 2 and a half hours, more during the day because every time she cried, I fed her (you can't over feed with breastmilk Grin ). she wasn't a 'long feeder' usually about 15-20 mins a go, she always fell asleep!
anyway, she was sleeping through by six months pretty much, maybe a quick feed to settle at one point in the night.
HTH Smile

TarkaTheOtter · 29/10/2013 17:02

frizz I think the key with bfing is to feed on demand. It might be that your baby feeds a lot and each feed takes ages, on the other hand they might only want to feed every three hours for five minutes at a time. For a newborn both are completely normal (volunteer at a bfing support group so get to meet a lot of bf babies). By six months they are likely to have feeds more spaced out and take about 10/15 mins.
On the other hand newborns will have growth spurts when it will feel like they feed constantly. These only last a day or so an are really important because they signal to your body to increase your milk supply to meet your growing baby's needs. The key is to go with the flow so I disagree that you shouldn't feed any more than once every two hours because there will be occasions when it might be more than that - maybe even hourly.

On the other hand, if you are feeding on demand and your (full term, back up to birthweight) baby sleeps through you let them sleep! No need to wake a baby that is growing well - they will wake themselves when hungry.

Sorry - that was a bit long. My personal experience was that from about 6-8weeks my dd fed about every 3hrs during the day, fed hourly from 4.30-7ish then did an increasingly long stretch from 7. So by 13weeks was either sleeping 7-7 or 7-1, then 1-7 with a feed in the middle. (Sleep all went wrong at 4months but that wasn't really to do with feeding.)

Sultanajo · 29/10/2013 18:04

mrsv and nature I also read that them sleeping in the same room as you including naps is something to do with the composition of the air. I think its something to do with carbon dioxide we breathe out encouraging the baby to breathe (something like that anyway).....Blush

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 29/10/2013 18:07

another are you home now? Hope so.

altered call the midwife. It's probably nothing, but best to be safe not sorry. And yes please to sorting out Cairo rep!

Thank you all for loveliness, DH is now home and I can finally relax. Ridiculous, as I know an appendectomy is not a big op, but I have been like a cat on hot coals the past few days!

MrsG I've been measured twice with a tape measure, from top of uterus (they poke to find it) to pubic bone.
