New thread, hoes!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Can anyone explain what palpitations feel like? Like a fluttery thumping in my chest?
Should I do anything about them?

IceNoSlice · 29/10/2013 22:42

Hi all, just winding down and reading up on the thread and FB - didn't finish work until 9.30 then a half hour drive home Shock Also missed preg yoga tonight, boo.

Knackered but also wired, hope I can sleep Hmm

Welcome back grey, hope all is well in the land of tractors and wurzels (do I mean wurzels? That band who sing about tractors?)

My local shop has an offer on Terry's choc oranges. I shared one well I ate most of it with my work friend today. She's just announced she's leaving and I'm gutted - she's really nice and I've worked with her for 5 years, boo.

liberuna · 30/10/2013 07:13

becca sorry for late reply. Palpitations ,in my experience, is when you notice your heart beat because its doing something weird. Out of rythym, going faster or slower for a short period of time.

If you're worried call the midwife. If Mine happens for more than 2-5 seconds or more than once I get on the gp.

liberuna · 30/10/2013 07:14

You ok?

Coolhand · 30/10/2013 07:42

Oh Becca hope you're ok. I've had palpitations a few times this pregnancy. If it's a one off I wouldn't worry but if they keep recurring def get it checked out - maybe you already have? Let us know how you're doing?

FoxMulder · 30/10/2013 09:38

Hey Becca How you feeling today? Are you going to get checked out?

I've been making enquiries about NCT classes (sorry, this again). The nearest one is in a town half an hour away and apparently no-one has signed up for it yet! My preg yoga class was cancelled because they didn't get enough people. Flippin' 'eck, I'm never going to meet anyone around here!

Beccadugs · 30/10/2013 09:39

Morning all!

Palpitations have gone, and preceded a night of vomming!! Luckily it's half term so I am off. On the sofa with my duvet and my dog (who is being walked by MIL later!!)

Just spoke to GP who suggested monitoring and pooping into the midwives drop in on Friday as long as it doesn't reappear.

Ahve also made my first baby purchase, second hand breast pump!

FoxMulder · 30/10/2013 09:46

pooping

Sorry to hear about the vomming!! Sofa & duvet sounds good though.

A second hand breast pump, eh? Oh how glamorous Grin

Rockchick1984 · 30/10/2013 09:52

Becca glad the palpitations have stopped, but yuk re vomming, my phone wants to autocorrect to coming which would be far less yuk :) Hope you're feeling a bit better soon.

Fox I wouldn't bother with NCT classes that far away, have a look to see if they have a bumps & babies group anywhere near you, and investigate what's on at your local surestart, that was the best discovery for me when I had DS as it's all free, and they tend to have things aimed at specific age groups as well as generic 0-5's groups which can be a bit overwhelming when you have a tiny squishy newborn!

Welcome back Grey we've missed you :)

I've got a cold again Sad going to get back on the multivitamins as I've got a bit lazy recently, also going to get some Feroglobin to up my iron levels and see if it makes me less sleepy.

Has anyone got any experience of nursing chairs? I didn't bother with DS as we were in a flat so on the rare occasions that I got out of bed for a night feed I just went in the living room, but no chance I'm faffing with going downstairs now! Just debating if they are worth it or not!

Blockette · 30/10/2013 10:14

Glad you feel better this morning becca!

Nursing chairs rock? Am I being stupidly naive to think I can just sit on the edge of the bed or sit up in bed? What's the differance to a normal chair?

MummyPig24 · 30/10/2013 10:45

Hope you feel better today Becca. I've had palpitations a few times, I will mention it to the gp or mw next time I go, I guess you ought to as well.

rock I have never had a nursing chair, we haven't had the space for it so I can't give you any recommendations I'm afraid. I just sit in bed or on the sofa in the day.

Dd is snotty and spotty today, but still in pretty good spirits. My friend is coming over with her dd who has already had chicken pox and we are going to ice Halloween biscuits and go for a walk in the fields behind my house where no one ever goes so at least the kids can run off steam there! It's so flipping cold today, still can't bring myself to turn the heating on though.

Rockchick1984 · 30/10/2013 10:56

I generally just sat up in bed with DS but if he was having an unsettled night I would go through and watch tv or read my kindle in the living room so it didn't disturb DH too much when he was in work the next day. This time he has also agreed that if DS wakes in the night (still happens usually once or twice a week, though generally just for a cuddle) he will sort him out as I'll be doing the night feeds with DD so only seems fair that I disturb him as little as possible.

mrsksays · 30/10/2013 13:11

Oh gosh having a really horrid day here. There's a good chance I will have to make myself redundant... basically I work for my husband's business and we may be losing a large client pretty soon which will mean laying off half of our staff and realistically we won't be able to justify my own salary.

Not ideal!

Blockette · 30/10/2013 14:03

Oh no, sorry to hear your having a hard time with the business mrsk we are due to loose a big client here in December and it leaves everyone a bit panicked (luckily not my company so not so much personal pressure). Hope you find another big client soon to replace them!

mrsksays · 30/10/2013 14:08

Hmmm not so sure - but if it happens it sure affects my plans for returning to work 3 days a week. I'll have to get another job and part time is pretty impossible to find so it will most likely be 5 days a week :(

HotCrossPun · 30/10/2013 14:08

Just popped on to say hi! I've been a terrible martian recently and haven't been checking the thread Blush

Hello to newbies! Girls still seem to be outnumbering boys quite a bit (babies, not posters obvs) who has a scan this week/next week?

FoxMulder · 30/10/2013 14:16

Oh no MrsK that sounds really stressful! Do you get a redundancy payout, or does it not work like that when you effectively employ yourself? No idea about self employment. Same question for maternity pay. What kind of business is it?

Rock I think you're right about the NCTs not being worth it in this situation. It's a shame, because DH is really keen. They don't seem to be atall active in this area, but there is a 'bumps and babes' class (clearly ripped off the name) & something at the surestart centre. I was just hoping to meet some people before the baby comes along.

I was just reading on the NHS website about how warm you need to keep your house with a newborn and it gives a piece of advice that seems to contradict itself: "All-night heating is rarely necessary. Keep the room at a temperature that's comfortable for you at night. About 18°C (65°F) is comfortable." I don't get it. I don't think my room would get that hot even if the heating was on 24/7!

Rockchick1984 · 30/10/2013 14:25

Fox I never stressed about room temp with DS - just used to stick my hand down his sleepsuit and adjust blankets as needed depending if he felt warm or cold :) babies often have cold hands as their circulation isn't fab so don't go by that, check temp on chest or back. Have you had a look in case any other antenatal classes are closer to you - lazy Daisy tend to cover a fair few places?

FoxMulder · 30/10/2013 14:35

Just checked out Lazy Daisy, but they're at least an hour away. Bit of a shame, they look good. This is what you get for living in the sticks. Nice views, but no amenities. I'm signed up to the NHS ones locally though.

FoxMulder · 30/10/2013 15:18

Just looking around at historical baby names (it's a long afternoon, ok), when I found this: www.real-baby-names.com/popular-uk/boys-1100.html

Check out number 10 from 1120

mrsksays · 30/10/2013 15:49

Fox It's a marketing/social media consultancy - no I'm technically freelance - I do my own tax return etc... So I'll get SMA not SMP (which is basically exactly the same anyway) and there won't be any redundancy since I'm self employed.

Really hope it doesn't come to this - it was always a risk with us working together like this - all eggs in one basket and that.

mrsksays · 30/10/2013 15:56

Love the historical boys names site Fox - my trouble is that i love the traditional English names but I hate the modern abbreviations - love Alexander, not keen on Alex. Love Samuel not keen on Sam etc... and O know how kids love to shorten their names.

Although we technically have our names sorted, it's the boy name I'm wavering on. I love our girl name. (sorry no reveals ;)

Blockette · 30/10/2013 16:03

I need a pee! - but the heating is broken on that side of the building and it's so cold! and I can't be bothered to move - I can hold it for 3 hours right?

FoxMulder · 30/10/2013 16:10

Blockette just go for a wee. It will take 30 seconds. You can brave the cold. We don't heat the bathroom once we're settled in the living room for the night anyway, so I have to cope with this all winter. So man up

Grin
Fasterkillpussycat · 30/10/2013 16:17

I had my 20 week scan today - all healthy and wriggling away. I didn't find out the sex of the baby, although I was tempted for the first time! Apparently I have an anterior placenta, which explains why I am not feeling much yet.

Sorry to hear about work mrsksays. Hope it gets sorted.
