Think Purple had loads of them... the evidence is shaky - some women go into labour within a couple of days but there's no way of proving if it was down to sweep orwould have happened anyway.

janey1234 · 28/11/2013 11:06

Alex - the only thing about buying loads of 6 or 12 months stuff is that if you have a boy you will have LOADS of clothes coming your way. Our mutual friend has given me bags and bags of stuff (as her friend had a boy too and passed things to her) - there is no way we'll get through it all. Even if you don't have a boy lots of it I would put a girl in anyway, so either way it think you'll get lots of hand me downs...

HazleNutt · 28/11/2013 12:17

brave what bra did you get? There are basically 2 different kinds, the flattening and then encapsulating ones. Flattening works on smaller chests, but I don't expect it in bigger sizes, we need engineering.

When you put the bra on, it should be tight - you might even wonder if you can in fact fasten it. It will loosen up soon. To test - jump around, do some high knee runs, jumping jacks - is it comfortable and do boobs stay pretty much in the same place?

MotherOfCleo · 28/11/2013 12:36

alex I had a sweep and it did diddly. Worth a shot though.

MotherOfCleo · 28/11/2013 12:37

plus, as you'll remember I was really upset by Harveys birth but it doesnt bother me now, you do forget quickly.

BraveLilBear · 28/11/2013 13:01

Hazle it's a shock absorber max impact D+ nonwired in a 32f. (My nursing bras are 32FF and cup is ever so slightly looser now as not using pads and not as engorged)

Will try it later and report back. I think it's an engineering kind. I'm really excited about going for a jog gotta test the pelvic floor sometime so hoping it fits...

HazleNutt · 28/11/2013 13:09

hm that might be tight, I always find that I need to go up a back size with shock absorbers. otherwise not a bad bra. My current favourite for high impact is Freya Active underwired.

Cavort · 28/11/2013 16:26

Alex I had 2 sweeps. The first definitely did nothing and by the time I had the second a week later I was already 3 days into latent labour. I still had the sweep, mostly because I wanted my CMW to tell me if I was dilating, but the contractions did noticably step up a gear after having it but it still took another 2.5 sodding days for a baby to show up.

OP posts:
Purplemonster · 28/11/2013 18:35

Yes, I did indeed have a gazillion sweeps, not sure if they made any difference or not but I didn't find them too painful so I'd do it again.

Mother - I'm so sorry your OH is being a shit, you can join my 'I live with a wanker who does nothing club' if you like. My OH has turned into an utter bastard since I had the baby and nothing I have done/tried/said has made any difference so I'm afraid I can offer no practical advice as I appreciate LTB, tempting as it is, isn't all that easy.

BlearyeyedLol · 28/11/2013 18:40

I had one sweep on thu, no pain, and got into labour Friday. Baby was born on Saturday. Coincidence or not I have no idea!!
Mother I think some of us have had problems with dh being shit and for me it took going away for a fortnight without him and making him realise the hard way what he would be missing if he carried on being a twat!

Lifestyle Factors Linked to Healthy Pregnancy.
In other news, a shark has shit in the sea and it turns out the Pope is Catholic.

OP posts:
BraveLilBear · 29/11/2013 02:19

Wait, Cavort, what do you mean sharks shit in the sea? Always thought that was what caves are for...

Grin

Hey Purple! Sounds like things are still shit :( how are you managing?

HazleNutt · 29/11/2013 09:19

Sigh I don't know what to do with this baby sometimes. He was already getting better at eating and drinking, got 100 ml bottles down quite quickly and quite a lot of baby rice too. And yesterday again decided that thanks but no thanks, and pretty much refused to eat or drink anything from lunch until I got home at 8 Hmm. And of course was up and feeding most of the night then.
Why? I just don't get it. It's always the same stuff and he must have been hungry and thirsty, but when he decides not to eat then that's it.

Cavort · 29/11/2013 10:26

Flowers If only babies were simple eh Hazle? Sad If I had any suggestions/baby expertise I would not be up for 2 hours every night with mine! I think these little blips are something we need to just ride out and it will get better eventually, and in the meantime we need to just hope that's sooner rather then later.

OP posts:
Purplemonster · 29/11/2013 11:41

Bear - yes, things are shit but I'm a woman so in typical fashion I am getting on with it.

This will make you Shock though. TBTILW just came and asked me, in all seriousness, what our daughter's middle name is. He had NO idea and on further questioning it turns out he doesn't know her DOB either. How? He was there and not the one addled with drugs and bleeding everywhere. He came with me to register her name. How can he not know?

HazleNutt · 29/11/2013 13:03

Viki just had his check-up, still 50th percentile for weight, 95th for height. Certainly not taking after me there.

Cavort · 29/11/2013 13:13

Opposite here Hazle, at Wednesday's weigh-in, Elodie was 17lb 2oz, which is 91st centile for weight but she is only 50th centile for length. I think your way is better! I have an officially fat baby. Grin

Purple my DH is a great Dad and really helps me out, but if he was here now I would put money on him getting her DOB wrong. It's just a man thing. And he would only know her middle name because he chose it. I will quiz him on DOB later.

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 29/11/2013 13:28

ha funny, so combined, we would have 2 exactly average babies. Mine is skinny, but as he's always been 50th centile, the doc was happy and said it's all fine.

Purplemonster · 29/11/2013 13:32

17lb! Wow that's impressive, my poor little pickle is only 11lb 3. It's because my milk isn't very good quality you know (according to tbtilw obviously) it must be because all the fat I'm scoffing is sticking to my hips instead.

Purplemonster · 29/11/2013 13:33

Interesting that they're checking the length/height of your babies though as they've never measured that on mine.

Cavort · 29/11/2013 13:52

Purple if he says things like that I don't know how you resist punching him full in the face sometimes.

They haven't measured her before and only suggested it this time to see if she is as long as she is heavy, but I could have told them by her Michelin Man thighs that isn't the case.

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 29/11/2013 13:59

Purple I'm Angry on your behalf. Your milk is perfectly fine and so are your hips I'm sure!

Here they have been measuring him every time. Have to measure his feet later, as I got a box of 9-12 month clothes from ebay with some socks thorwn in, and those are all way too tiny. Tall skinny bigfoot I have.

Wanted to buy him a pair of shoes, just to keep his feet warm when we go to Estonia but have you seen the prices?? Baby shoes are as expensive as mine - he does not even walk yet, the shoes don't even have to be functional. Ridiculous. Will probably just stick with snowsuit.

Cavort · 29/11/2013 14:12

Hazle we use Baggies to keep feet warm. I'm not shelling out for shoes until she can walk outdoors!

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 29/11/2013 14:25

oh excellent, those baggies are exactly what I'm looking for. Will get from mothercare if I can't find anything similar locally.

BraveLilBear · 29/11/2013 17:49

Oh my god Purple that's outrageous Angry he clearly knows nothing about milk eg that babies get more calories from milk than food and that you're doing a bloody marvellous job.

Will test DP later on dob - but if he got middle names wrong I'd actually kill him as he made such a fuss at the time.

In other news, I've got an appointment with the manager of the labour ward next week for a birth debrief so I'll be working on my long list of questions over the weekend. Interestingly, they asked if I wanted it with the consultant who delivered H. As he was only involved for the last hour or so and because the post delivery care is uppermost in my mind, I went for the senior staff member option.
